It's been at least a month for me. Race C would have been great if there was strategy. I'll have to log in at some point for the Red Bull Ring time trial money but in the meantime, I'm debating whether it's worth it to spend the whole two minutes setting up the wheel for another somewhat boring race.

Anyone else losing that drive to play GT7 right now?
I don’t know what it is but I’m really not enjoying the game right now. Logged on today for the first time in 5 days and set some laps on Daily B & C and I feel like Im off the pace.
Done 2 races so far, and just waiting now for my 3 race on Daily B.
1st race I used the Supra and everytime I went over the bus stop chicane they car just went spinning out off control. 4/5 laps I was facing backwards.
2nd race I used the mustang and on lap 1 everything going fine running in P4 and then my tv decided it was update time and put a big box right across my view so ended up causing a huge pile up.
Going for a 3rd race and depending how this goes depends if I call it quits for the week. Had 3/4 weeks with pretty bad results so DR taken a hit.
If there was another competitive racing game on PS5 with a viable user base, I'd of jumped ship by now. Unfortunately, this is the only option.

Yeah I still don't think they understand what people actually like about GT games, to be honest. There's nothing in Sport mode (and in lobbies, even) that ever consistently appeals to what many people loved about online in the early GT's.

I have all these road cars, all these touring cars, all these GT500 cars, and so on, that I just can never use in a good race because everything is forced to be competitive in this little groups that stay the same for an entire week.

In GT5, you could hop into online, join a shuffle race, and race something new somewhere new consistently whenever you wanted. In GT6, there were swaths of online events and lobbies for you to choose from, and even quick races had variety that went past "Road Car. Gr.3. Gr.4" because you'd see it limited to cars within a certain HP, or cars with a certain drivetrain etc. On top of these, you had the seasonal events too. Always something fresh to keep people playing.

In GT7 this week we have a BMW M3 race, at the same track all week. There's just no variety any more, and it kills me. Online lobbies are broken most of the time, but even when it works you can't limit it to road cars! I tried to host a road car lobby and half the people that joined used a car with an exploited suspension or tried to race a Gr.3/4 car until they changed or got kicked.

I really feel like they forgot what the DNA of Gran Turismo was all about. You see this in the cafe too. I fell in love with cars and their history because of the fact GT let me race whatever I worked for, wherever I wanted. In GT7, they expect you to fall in love with cars because they force you to learn about their history, and you race whatever they want you to race, wherever they want you to. It's fundamentally the wrong way around, and this design is reflected throughout the entire game.

It's not even a hard fix. Make Race A rotate daily (or hourly, or hell, make every race slot a random combination!) and the problem is solved. As of right now they have done absolutely everything wrong with it. They've given it (mostly) boring combinations with small grid sizes and it doesn't mean anything for your SR/DR so most people don't even bother. You can see this with the qualifying numbers, as @Leon Kowalski was showing. I saw someone post a photo of a race A lobby in the Discord that popped with 4 people in it earlier.

They need to funnel players into racing something that's consistently different, and therefore consistently fun. It's really not hard. I genuinely think if 1 person out of 90% of the playerbase got directive control of the game, half the surface level issues would be fixed within an hour. Penalties, SR problems, variety problems, event problems - they could all be fixed insanely quickly by someone who is passionate about fixing them, and by someone who knows what GT is about. I feel like PD don't right now. Competitive races are great, but you need something to supplement that.

Sorry for the essay lol.
Yeah your totally right.
GT7 is my first experience of online racing in the GT series and they are things I do like which do keep me racing, but after 3/4 days things start to get stale and I lose interest. By the time the weekend comes I’ll maybe do a few races but I then end up spending 2/3 hours in time trial just trying to beat my time.

GT5 & GT6 online sound like it was pretty good system and fun to race in.
I like the idea of a shuffle race. That would keep me playing online for a long time as I like mixing things up. Specific category shuffle races would be fun if picked your car before you knew the track. I feel like this would stop one car races.

Im not a huge fan of road car races, but the ones I have done have been great but as you say I feel like this should defo be a shuffle race. Plus the No DR/SR makes people like yourself question “why should I bother race in this as I mean f all to my DR”
They should have a full section dedicated for No DR/SR lobbies.

I know the game is still in it early days and things will improve but I have no faith in PD to make the correct changes. You’ve had World tour players criticise the game too and if the changes haven’t been made for these guys then we got no chance of them listening to us lot. Like you say if they listened to 100 people I’m sure these 100 people could make the game 10x‘s better.
Quali Time Trails need to be ditched for starters and just have a 5 min quali before each race as this would stop the fixed grids. Plus it draw players to race rather then do TT‘s just to get a better quali time.

On reflection I'm wondering if I'm just a bit bored with the routine of the game at the moment. I forget that I would go on runs in Sport and then not play the game for a few weeks if the next weeks combo didn't grab me, and I didn't feel bad about that whereas with 7 being 'live' currently there's a fear of missing out that I have if I just put the game to the side for a while.

I think it's more a me thing anyway, I'm realising, it's a shame there's nothing else particularly interesting to me out right now game wise as a break should do me good.

Apologies to all for my last few posts, a little too grumpy I think
Im totally the same as you. I feel like I have to play just keep myself in the game in soMedway.

Well this month on PSPlus you can get Tony Hawks 1 & 2 for free so I’ll be playing this for a few weeks I think now.

Dont apologies for ranting, just think we all are at the same point in the game.

You're not the only one. The last few weeks haven't been particularly exciting to me. Two weeks ago St Croix was okay and kinda fun, but no chicane Monza for 12 laps was a snooze fest. Unfortunate as I put in a decent quali time there in the Supra (37.2) and was like 400 on the charts late in the week until the Nissan SSS came out which pushed me down.

Last week the only thing that kept me interested in all honesty was the fact A was no DR|SR. My quali lap around Bathurst was **** but didn't care where I started due to the no DR thing. Not a fan of Bathurst either but could do five laps and still kinda have fun and if I binned it, again, no DR hit so no care. One of the things in A that actually had me having some fun was I was in like five or six races with Kie later in the week and it made them interesting trying my best to keep him behind (even with him starting towards the back). Didn't do a single B or C as neither one of those races were interesting for me whatsoever.

This week I'll likely give the Glen a try and have done a couple race Cs on account #2 just starting from the back in the Mazda. Did some quali laps on the #1 account but what frustrates me is jumping over the turns on the first chicane will make or break your quali lap. Similar the wall riding glitch at HSR or curb riding glitch last time around on this track. I don't blame anyone for doing these little glitch tactics as it's basically required to get a 'good lap' and when in Rome and all that... I just think it's dumb as a whole.

Anyway, just don't have the drive to want to play too much at the moment; but, I will still play some anyway. We'll see.
The lack of interesting races recently has made things worst, and plus this weeks and knowing what next weeks daily races are too just makes me not interested. The worst part is knowing what to expect in the races before you’ve even done a lap.
I like St Crox but the race was too short, and if you got punted out it was race over as they wasn’t enough laps to recover.
Brands was ok last week but im not consistent enough to keep racing it lots. I always dipped a tyre in the grass and spun nearly every race.
Bathurst was great last week. A difficult track that doesn’t really get used on the single player campaign or on Sport. I saw you in one of Kie’s streams last week and I remember he saying you was a good racer.

One thing I think this game is missing is a proper online racing league. I know we have the GTWS but that only one day a week that only lasts for a x weeks. Think we need something similar to Lowfuelmotorsport (LFM) that runs daily. That could draw players in and make people race more.

They didn't even need to be road cars iirc. The way they worked is basically a random PP target was set, and then a variation variable (say that 10 times fast) was set that determined how far away from the target your car could be, and everyone was given a random car within that boundary. So you could have a 450pp race with a 50pp variation, giving everyone a road car race, or do a 750pp race where everyone will be racing in random GT cars.

It's a fantastic system, I don't know why they did away with it. It would work SO well for Race A - everyone being shuffled into random cars of a similar performance and just getting to go wild. If I woke up in Kaz's body it'd be the first thing I did lol.

G
Yeah people on MT are hampered a little bit on the start. 90% of the time I don’t have an issue as it just learning how to judge the start.
Was just annoying yesterday as you can see from the video the car has the revs built up and I’m ready to shift straight away into 2nd, and then on that 1 second mark the car just dies.
Dont let this put you off from switching to MT. Driving MT just feels so much better especially if you using a wheel.
Guys the start counts down 3...2...1...buzz
Hit your shifter on the buzz try to time for just as buzz sounds you'll get it every time.

I’m pretty bored with the weeklies as well. Why in the world can’t they make a 10 lap race that requires BOTH tire and fuel management?! Each week seems to have some variation of one or the other, but I’ve never seen one where a no-stop is impossible, and where the strategy comes down to one vs two stops and changing tires each time or not, etc.

That’s actual strategy and requires you to monitor the situation each race rather than figure out the winning strategy everyone uses and go with it each and every time.

As it stands, boring. And I just dumped a big load of money on a new rig and load cell pedals only to find out that I’m bored with it. Ack!!! :dunce:

I was looking forward to race C, as I was racing in race C I realised that you don't have to pit. Boring.
However it was my first time on that track and I really like the layout.

Hmmm, interesting point, need to try it out. I've set everything to zero or off except ABS.

Now that I think about it, could be something I can test out for a bit and see if there is a positive difference.

Also @Artremis no i have not as me seated deep into a sofa won't work, i rest my controller on my lap so can't move 😂

This is my lap...

Definitely play around with the steering sensitivity found in the controller settings option in the pre race menu. If you using 0 I bet you will find a huge improvement in feeling by increasing some or little🍻

Ran a B race just now. I decided to qualify to hopefully put myself in a better starting position. I started 4th (definitely better than 15th or 16th). I was staying close to the 3rd place driver and SLOWLY making some progress. On lap 3, he ran wide at Turn 6 and I made an easy pass. He got back on track immediately after, but unfortunately for him he was passed by a few more cars and finished 7th. I had a clean race, and at one point had the fastest lap. But that was eclipse on the following lap by the eventual winner. All ini all a good race. It's more fun starting towards the front than at the back.

I also did a qualifying run for Race C. I don't know if I'll do any C races, though. I normally don't do the longer races. But I like that track and the Supra is really good there.

Did some more quali laps for C on the #1 account but haven't raced on it yet; I know the first time I do that chicane I'll be meeting Barry R. Would just be my luck. Did a couple race Cs on the #2 account in the Vette.

One thing I don't get... I had a hard time keeping the Vette under control at Bathurst; it was very squirrelly. But this week, it's very planted and easy to drive. I guess it's a BoP thing?

I’m still confused on the new bop classes. Also Bathurst was on RH and this week we are on RM I believe 🍻

I'm feeling much more comfortable at Watkins Glen with more laps in the Mustang. The bus stop is still iffy, but I'm having more successful ones as compared to yesterday. I set a new qualifying time of 1:56.1XX and I'm very happy I've gotten it that low (for my skills). The sub 1:56 lap is there but I'm losing so much time in the final sector. The problem is turn 8 as I can't get the entry angle correct. I'm afraid of running wide on exit and getting an off track penalty. I know the car should stick on exit, but I let off just enough to kill my momentum.

I decided to try a race and see what I could do against some other drivers. Once again, I'm in a stacked room and I was one of 2 or 3 B rank drivers. I start P14 on the grid. Lap 1 goes pretty good with me keeping pace with the back of the pack at least. Then 2 off track penalties totaling 1.5 seconds kill my race. I got one more .5 second off track penalty, but still gained 1 spot in the end to finish P13. I think I did ok despite the penalties. I need to clean up my lines a bit, but I like the combo so far. I'm also guessing my time would be closer to the front in an all B rank room. I also appreciate the drivers serving their penalties getting off the racing line. Even the .5 second ones, it was nice to see out there. The race was also clean, I didn't see any contact in the back of the pack. I just want to be in a room with all B drivers so it's somewhat fair racing competition.

Slight change, just had a win after starting 2nd and the guy in front binned himself. Top 5 unchanged aside from that though, again...

The rolling start has everyone sort of just outside slipstream. And the lobbies I get, everyone is about the same pace, which is about 1:55 flat (with qualifying high 1:53/low 1:54, mine is at 1:54.0). So there's only 2 ways to get overtakes
1. Someone bins it or makes a bad enough mistake, which has been rare, happen to one guy in top 5 of the last 4 races I had
2. Go yolo pace through bus stop to try make up that second (seems most people, myself included, are racing around 0.5-1sec off qualifying pace largely due to taking bus stop more conservatively), which doesn't guarantee a pass but could put you in range. Or it might murder you and cost you a handful of positions or a penalty...lol

Kind of unfortunate, the group 3 race here prior was much more interesting
And now the opposite, I went full send to chicane to try catch 1st, I bin it from 2nd, end up falling to 10th and in the midst of a deliberate murder-punt-fest. Lol. At least there's a bit of variety I guess, the mid pack was 'fun' but wouldn't be fun if I was there every race going 3 wide into chicane and getting punted repeatedly, lol. But also no time to make up positions if you bin it either...I could only get back to 7th...making the incentive to full send the chicane quite small relative to the risk

This is something i think they could (and maybe should) experiment with, maybe in a Race A. In saying all that the one thing I'm really enjoying that's keeping me motivated to play the game is doing loads of TT laps following a top time ghost. And yeah part of that is i wanna start nearer the front in the races, but it's also improving my driving in general, and making tracks i'd usually avoid like the plague more appealing, the Nordschleife for example.......was also great fun using Robert Kubica as a ghost last week, showed it to my dad and he was well impressed with me 😂

It doesn't have to be either/or. You can still allow free practice, but only the FP after you've entered a race counts toward grid position for that race.

Having a blast with the Glen this week, started off with a pole time and won 4 of the first 6! Which coming on the back of mount panorama which I didn’t manage a win! Great clean racing at B/S
Great to hear, or to read. I've had a different experience on Monday, but now I might give it another try.

I may be done with B this week. I love the Glen, but I’m stuck in mixed A & B lobbies and people are going insane. Maybe it’s the time of day. But once I get out of trouble it becomes a boring procession. I haven’t placed better than P5 yet this week, and I may be a C rank of I keep my current pace.

On the other hand, I’m tuned up my BMW for race A and I’m having an absolute blast there! I may stick with that one for a while.

I have load cell peddles coming in today, but my ASR4 rig is t here yet so I’m afraid my new pedddles are going to destroy my PlaySeat. The steel tube actually cracked from my usual peddles. It probably would have snapped with the new ones! I had to spend a few hours yesterday rigging up some mods on it to keep it from flexing so much!

Edit: for a bizarre spelling mistake. No cars were actually burned in this race.

Oh boy. This is not what I wanted to read...🤣

I did only one race, it was great fun, and unexpectedly I beat a lot of higher ranked players. Would have helped my DR a lot, if... 😆

On the other hand, I did quite a number of hotlaps there, both with a "normal" and an engine-swapped car. The latter was faster, but only very very slightly. Still can't believe my global ranking in qualifying. Isn't anybody playing this? I mean, if I compare my best lap with the aliens, I'm right there where I usually end up: just around 1.5 seconds per minute slower than the global best times, so in this case slightly above 3.0 seconds for the lap. Normally this means a position somewhere between 3000 and 10000 worldwide, but as of yesterday, I was P63 momentarily after my best lap. Go figure...

I haven't been playing race A because I didn't have the urge to tune my M3. Is it a lot of work?

Any recommendations for mid-tier cars to use at C? Lexus? Mustang (Stang might actually be good)? AMG? FT1? Skyline?

The Mazda Vision is pretty good but it's quite slidey through the long lefts; as is the Ford LM II.

Can you purchase the engine swap?
Nope. I've got lots of them via the old engine roulette ticket glitch, which doesn't work anymore. I would send you one, if I could... 😇But, as I said, the difference seems marginal, as you have to tune down the engine anyway. The swapped Z4 engine seems to have slightly more grunt, but I can't say that it makes for more than one or maybe two tenths per lap. And even that might be imagination, because on this track, my laptimes vary quite a bit.

I settled on the Mclaren 600... whatever numbers.
Mazda tyres wore out towards end of race.
