I'm finding the lap a challenge but fun 🙂 took me around 15 laps but I'm in the 1:39:5s now 😅

It's quite hard to be consistent over 10 laps but it's doable. Average time was 1:39:7 and was doing a lot of 1:39:6s before I cracked the next tenth..

Don’t get me started on this. I’ve done a 1.40.1 but had a slow S1. I’ve spent the last hour nailing S1 and been 0.300 up but I then mess up in S2 or the chicane at the end.

Is there any other car that is close to Alfa? TT failed again xD , seriously i need to find a better alternative
I don’t think any other car will come close really. Im not very good in the 4wd drive cars so I used the SLS a lot as it’s a decent car but after 4/5 laps I only did a 1.46. Jumped into the Alpha and my first lap I did a 1.42. I’ll try the SLS again as I’ve learnt the track better, the way the Alpha grips in the corners I don’t think anything will come close.

big willow is tough to knock times down in, especially because i'm more or less limited to using TCS 1 on these GR3 (especially the MRs, which i've got my fasted times in.. still not in the top 1000 overall though). the margins are just so small - a toe off the road or ending up in too low of a gear - i'll probably end up spending 4 days to get my time competitive.
In terms of engine note Has there been a worse sounding week in the history of dailies? The RXVision sounds like a ps4 powered lawnmower and the Alfa is the stuff of nightmares.
i like that the Stealth Car sounds like 'dying cat in heat'. real stealthy.

I don’t bother much with times for this one, just get on with the racing.

Getting a better exit at the last turn sends me past on the straight. And adapting entry speed to T2 lets me pass there. Probably wont work tomorrow though, but mostly passing on BW is about possition and being assertive. If you get alongside in the brake zone for T1 and are on the inside you almost always get pas because going 2 wide is so slow that they yield to keep momentum.

edit: I am low B/S.
I started in a lobby with 8 A/S, 1 A+/S and the rest B/S like me. I started P3, finished P2, the guy starting in P4 finished as P1.
None of the overtakes he or I did where dirty, he passed me in the entry to T1 by doing as I wrote above.
The original P2 ran wide, and the original P1 was passed legit by both of us, he then overdrive to catch up and finished P6. So attrition is a big part of it, yes. But there's several overtaking manoeuvres working there
I love Big Willow. Get a run out of the final corner (as people usually mess up going too fast and run wide) and turn 1 is a prime slot. Same thing through the long righthand turn 2 to set up a pass into the left at turn 3. You just need to get alongside and it's almost a guaranteed pass. There's really no way anyone can hang around the outside, the margin of error is too small with the desert beckoning so they invariably back out.
Thanks for the advice. I'm bleeding DR points, but it allowed me to get into a lower lobby and get a better starting position. I even won a race this morning after P1 threw himself off the track. I held my breath for the last two laps hoping I wouldn't do the same. But I'm starting to get a feel for it and am learning where to be patient.
just do it like Ken

EDIT - I am aware this wasn't actually filmed at WS, but the principle holds - patience is a virtue for that final corner.

C'mon, we all know you can't pass someone on the shoulder! The sand sucks you right off the track!
I have had good fun in a very underused car, one that fits remarkably well on Big Willow.
The M3 GT '11.
Thanks for the advice on this one. The M3 is the car that has allowed me to actually compete on Big Willow! It's solid on the turns, although a bit slow on the long straight, but because of the location of the last two curves it is easy to defend my position. This car has been a game changer for me, literally!

Business as usual trying to qualify at Willow Springs today.
Have you been sneaking photos of my practice sessions?! I swear I've never gone vertical or inverted as much as I have doing TT laps on Big Willow!!!

The G70 is not bad. Some turns where I have to lift, where the Alfa might go full throttle, but apart from that quite solid. 1.40.1 so far, and some tenths still to be found on the track.

I won't compete in an actual race, though, because I'm not willing to re-ignite my PTSD from #killed by Alfa! 😬

Edit: 1:39:4 now. The G70 is quite capable on that track.

Getting a bunch of top 5's at Willow in the Corvette, always been competitive here I'm pleased to see it still is.

Shoved off once because of course, having the gall to pass someone serving a penalty

Rough with the smooth here.
What region?

I may try my Scirocco with no qualifying just to see how it handles corners compared to the alfa meta only users when im off work or the G70

I know I’m a misery guts with this, but these stupid hacky corners are so dumb. The culprit this week is the sausage chicane at Gardens. It’s absurd I have to drive right over the sausage to be able to set a time worth bothering with and then in race have to decide between losing time or potentially ruining my own, and possibly someone else’s race if I get a comedy bounce. Remove the sausages altogether or replace them with pillars or something.

I've been doing decently today, but I'll agree, if I end up eating the sausage and going wild, there goes my entire race and it pretty much throws me off the entire time. Usually I don't have an issue with them on other tracks but today, yikes

Euro though it's low B's where more cars are typically competitive anyway.

Did take half a second out of my best time with the M6 though and still more on track.

NOT an intentional showoff move

Has shades of Mark Webber at Le Mans in 99 when the Mercedes cars took flight.

Those sausages curbs are pointless, not even sure what they are trying to stop. Like you say you just drive over them.
Also Im not a fan either of how different the tracks limits are. Last week race c you can basically cut every corner and run wide on exit, this week if you cut the corner with half a car you get a penalty.

I enjoy Big Willow even if it likes to kill me at times. Tried to race a bit with the 911 last night and saw plenty of friendly faces out there. Most were faster than I can manage, but it was sa blast. Passed someone, or multiple people in every race, and each race it was a pass on track. And I was in the 911.

Get alongside for turn 1 and you're usually gonna make it. Inside is best, but if you're in a handling car you can sometimes hold the outside and compromise their run to the next turn, where you drive on away. Not recommended though. Also getting along the inside for turn 3 up the hill. Near impossible to take it 2 wide so you can get through, but have to be aware of the comeback in the rabbit ear on top of the hill. That and making a good tight and fast run out of the downhill dip can get you through on the backstretch as well.

But as has been mentioned, a lot of passing there is done by keeping massive pressure on the other driver and not messing up yourself. And put replace car on track back on in your assists. I climbed from p11 to p5 in my first race and forgot to balance the throttle in the last turn and went off. Nearly got DQ'd before I got back on track.

Was good to see @pennanton @Stephan and @Hdbd04 out there.

I’ve got a test for the willing ones.

On Big Willow in Gr.3 PEUGEOT VGT used to be the meta, especially with RH tyres. Later on in GT Sport’s life when they started changing daily B from RH to RM and said combination returned, then R.S. 01 GT3 came to light as the preferred meta for about 95 % of people. However, the Peugeot in the right hands could still beat the Renault and had signifcantly higher top speed while the Renault took the corners a bit faster. (Ref: my results from last time, week 50 and a clip of a race with Z28)

For whoever hasn’t tried the PEUGEOT VGT in GT7 yet, take a few laps here and you’ll realise how brutally destroyed by the GT7 BoP this car is. The contrast is at bizzarro levels. Sure, new physics and game but it’s not just that.

Oh how I loathe Big Willow. There are like no references other than the yard markers. I went off on the last turn because someone else went off and knocked off a bunch of the yard markers and I was completely lost on where I was... got a tire off and that's all she wrote.

I will say I've been having fun in the Lexus. You're not going to be setting any world records with it, but it's been quite a pleasant car to use on this unpleasant track.

Yep. Have the same issue at Monza at the della Roggia.

Race A is a huge winner for me.

Delicate car to drive around a tricky circuit. Started the day with a few races from the back of the grid to practice alternative lines and race craft in the Mazda but soon got bored and decided to set a Top-100 worthy 41.6xx. I definitely have a few tenths left in me, but alas I had to depart to work for the evening.

I like that we're having a week off from tuning in this One Make edition, the competition feels more organic and I'm enjoyingv the nuances of the car without worrying whether I could set something up better.

Oh, and @Leon Kowalski is now officially the guy who's quali I'm aiming for 😆

I've been rock solid in the BRZ, although it's just too slow on the straights to hold 'em at bay. The M3 has been steady as well, and a little quicker.

However, I took everyone's advice and turned on the "return car to track" assist and now regret it. It waits for the worst possible moment to teleport you to the worst part of the track you just left, only to set you up for flying the other direction off the track again! I just despair-quit (not rage-quit, more like self-loathing-PD-hating-how-can-this-be-so-bad-quit) after I flew off the track four times in a row because I couldn't get my bearing as to where it was placing me on the track. I'd rather fly off the track and correct my own path than this garbage!

Ok, rant over. . . for now.

Edit: nope, rant not over. No sooner did I turn the assist off than I got so far off the track it took me 20 seconds to find my way back. I hate this track so much. I hate all the races this week. I hated the races last week. I am starting to hate this game. Or I just really hate myself. Being a B driver stuck in A lobbies equals deep, deep self-loathing.

Had no intention of playing GT7 today but after watching all of Kie's early stream i had a change of heart....Seen some amazing racing, learned a few things.....all of which I'm pretty sure helped me get a 1.38.4, which I'm over the moon about. Sent him a super chat as a way of thanks.

Did two races, started 3rd finished 3rd......drove solidly, no mistakes.

DT Gardens Reverse is such an interesting track, it's easy to hate it, but when you get it right it's really rewarding......Kie, Digit & Zavasic were all getting frustrated with in the beginning, but it did serve up from good racing.

Trying out Willow Springs as I haven't had any online racing there and I'd like to give it a try. The section with turn 4 and the downhill section are still giving me some troubles. Of course, dropping a wheel off track is a recipe for disaster as I tend to do too often at this track. I still got my qualifying time to a 1:13.7XX in the Mustang as I like that car a bunch. I don't know if I'll do much racing during the week as I'm not confident around the track just yet. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Every turn has alternative markers. Some are quite subtle. e.g. there's a dip in the tarmac into turn 3 just before the 50. On the final turn you can use the shed off to the left of screen as a marker. That one's not subtle and it's way better than the yard markers.

Yeah it's nice seeing you along with the other users. Even had a good small battle with @pennanton and his Aston Martin DBR9 which showcased a power vs handling situation. Here's the small battle.

As for the Race B sessions I had yesterday, it can be summed to this aka consistent podium finishes. A player was in a Ford GT Race Car '18 and he was just too quick for me to catch up in my RS01. At one point I was close to him the pressure got to me and ended up going to the sand but recovered quickly enough to retain a podium finish.

Now for today it seems that my consistent 2nd place finishes from yesterday have rewarded me with 3 straight wins for the morning session. My first session had me starting in P2 while I had to worry about a M6 being in first. My qualifying time was a 1:11.565 while the pole sitter has a time of 1:11.3.

Gran Turismo® 7_20220823103042.png

Race went smoothly until the M6 pole sitter went off track on the downhill section of the track during lap 5 where it allowed me to take advantage and take the lead. From there I went on to win my first win for this week.

Gran Turismo® 7_20220823104106.png

As for the second and third sessions I was in pole and converted them into wins. Overall I'm glad my favorite combo Sport has returned and I'm definitely gonna spending the week with this daily.

Big Willow hasn't been a favourite of mine, but I am having a bit of fun now. The trouble with the track is, you have to drive with a lot of discipline: don't get greedy, drive clean and consistently.
It definitely falls into the category of 'simple' old school tracks that punish any off track mistakes with a hammer. Always good to hang around 90 to 95 pct speed. But the challenge is fun. As long as it's not getting rammed off that is causing the mistakes I enjoy the challenge even if it sometimes seems like a losing battle
