Longest OT post I've seen in a while.

Manufacturers also use NM, which indeed is a way better indication of the vehicles acceleration power.

Engine power does not express velocity, but acceleration. Theres many high PS engines with very low NM. For example, an V8 M3 has 400 PS (they never reached these numbers, but thats a different story) - but just 400NM. Same model with a 6 cyl turbo engine has 306 PS and 400 NM - with a much higher fuel efficiency.

A friend of mine drives a Scania V8 truck. 700PS and 3800 NM. Its very slow, but it pulls a 747 no sweat.
I'm glad at least this one is on topic. Or not. Whatever. I managed to do some first to finish runs, fixing my SR. Didn't help much though. Italians are really dedicated to push me off.

Manufacturers also use NM, which indeed is a way better indication of the vehicles acceleration power.
And the sibling unit of Nm (small m) is... kW, because 1W = 1Nm/s. Not PS, which is measured in kgfm/s.

But of course car manufacturers use Nm because it gives a bigger number and makes the car look faster - as does PS for engine power.

By law in Europe (since 1972), car manufacturers must state engine power in kW and engine torque in Nm, with any other units provided as supplemental information only.

Engine power does not express velocity, but acceleration.
Hence the word "look", and the expression "marketing tool".

Also it does (or rather speed; speed is scalar, velocity is vector). Cars that don't have a top speed limited by gearing (or electronics) will have a top speed limited by wheel power (which may require increasing engine torque, but can also be achieved by raising the rev limiter - engine power in hp equals engine torque in lbft * engine speed/5252 - the McLaren F1 is a good example of this, as raising the rev limiter allowed it to set its speed record, even though engine torque is sharply declining at that point of the range). Increase the wheel power and you'll increase the speed at which the car can travel, though you'll need to increase it by a cube of the percentage of the increase in speed.

The approximate formula for generalised local air density conditions is power required (hp) =[(mass in pounds/0.0135)+(Cd x Frontal area in square feet x 0.00256 x speed x speed)] x speed/375.

How low can your steering angle go?
It can go quite low, but I’m not sure it’s working right. I’ll keep experimenting with it.

Oh nice, the new Logitech looks smart, but the price tag seems a little too steep for me when you compare it to like a Fanatec or Moza. What are your thoughts? Have you used a DD wheel before? And if so how does it compare?
I’m new to sim racing, so the only thing I have to compare it to is the older Logitech wheel, and obviously it’s better than that.

Hopped into my 2nd account so I don't feel the pressure but just so happened to have a beast in the lobby 😅

Was keeping in front for a few laps but then lost the rear a bit, cut the corner and got a penalty. Tried moving out of raving line so he could pass but the guy is lightening fast and we touched.

No real impact on race as minimal damage to both and I moved aside after contact to give the place as it should be. I follow Steve and watch all his videos. He's quick when you watch on YT but when it's the real thing, he is insanely fast!

Gapped me by 3.4 sec over the final 2 laps as I just wanted to finish and get P6 as it's the best position 🫣🤪

I've been struggling on my main account going for c to D and back to C from running Brands this week.
So I worked on my new alt account set up for Europe and got into the daily races today.
First thing I noticed was as a new E/B driver that the E/B drivers had better qualifying times than most
D players in the Americas.
My best time on the main was 1:26.9.... I set a Q time on the 2nd account of 1:25.7 and beat it in the 2nd
race by 5 tenths.

It was a FUN day

It's taken me an entire week to get remotely decent at Race B or C, all on my alt account which has it's plus points but part of me thinks i should just race on my main account and maybe get a more accurate DR rating.....i dunno why it bothers me so much.

Next week......can't see anything other than the GTR for Race B, the Alfa may be good in the mountain section but it will get annihilated on the straights. Race C surely must be a 911 one make. Oh and the RM only last about 6 laps.......

Is there a roadmap for when the games issues will be adressed? Penalty, bop, lobbies, and so on?

Other Studios are doing that for their customers

I need to take a break, too... - from my main account. I seriously have to do races on my burner account just for practice purposes, because I'm just so useless in the actual races. Because:

Back to SR/S due to driving behind the pack for several races, and after one surprise win on my second account, I finally dared to do some actual daily races B on my main account. Brands Hatch, great track, 911, great car, and after some serious practicing I got my Q time to a fairly decent 1:23:8, so I even started my two races on pole. B/S lobbies with clean and fair racing throughout. Most drivers even understanding the concept of giving space, or backing out of risky situations. Almost zero pushing and punting.

Obviously, that didn't feel right. And so I just binned my races without any help from other drivers. 🤪
How did you find half a second improvement on your time?! I ran another 40 laps and only ran slower!

A certain guy motivated me by going 0.002 seconds faster than me. That was cruel...🤣

But seriously, I found a lot of time at Graham Hill, which I somehow figured out (braking spot, and being a bit more patient before hitting the throttle again), and in the first of the three consecutive right-handers (where you can be much braver and carry more speed than it seemed at first). I still spoiled my best laps in the final turn (never got that consistent), my optimum time being 1:23:5 in the end.

Do you appreciate how hard it was to adjust my lap to come out .002 of a second faster than you?! Now you’ve ruined it!

What is your braking marker for Graham Hill? I’ve tried several approaches and they all seem equally random…

Oopsie...😇

The white sign on the right. I brake hard and short just before it, in a straight line, then release and coast round the turn, sometimes with a tiny bit if brake, until the car is in line for full throttle. Doesn't matter if the back is sliding a bit, as long as I don't get impatient with the throttle.

Anyone know what's coming up for this week's schedule? Did a Race C just now all A+/S drivers, with me barely hanging on to A rating as lost a lot of DR last week.

Clean and precise racing at least and finished well 🙂 No idea why no Clean Bonus as no contact or off track driving or penalties...

I tried this once and got impatient and quit, but I’ve been wondering. . . . What’s your mark on the first of the right-ha d turns? I ease on the brake and shift to 4th just before the white sign on the left (is it the I marker?) and let the trail braking swing the nose around.

We ought to start tracking these strategies with every circuit. Tidgney does a great job on day one or two, but the markers become more aggressive and refined as the week progresses. It would be nice to see what people are getting away with by the end of the week.

Man, that Porsche is strong, eh?

Spent the first half of the week chipping down my quali time in the Vantage to a 1:23.3 - saw Dredge passed me and decided to hop into the Porsche.. set a 1:23.158 in about 10 minutes. I'd be very surprised if that car survived the next update without at least a little nerf.

About ten to fifteen yards behind the second sign (where the red painted barrier is). Short dab on the brakes, downshift to 4th at the same time, then around the corner with a bit over half throttle until I feel that I can floor it. Which is way earlier than I thought when I started this.

This is of course all with the 911. I was fairly quick with the Jag and with the Lancer, but they drive really differently (and make it hard for me to complete a lap...😆)

I got another 50 laps in (50 laps!!!) and I finally beat my best time . . .

I know exactly how that feels. Had this experience several times. 🤦‍♂️

If you are still trying: another sector where I was able to improve my laptime was the final left hander: by braking very early, then taking a very tight line over the inside curbs, I could often accelerate before the apex and hit the straight without lifting at all.

I’m a master at that turn for some reason. I pull away from most everyone there. But they catch up with me everywhere else!

I think I’m done with it this week. I went back in to race and got completely killed by the weekend warriors who have no practice and instead make up for their deficiencies by punting everyone in their paths.

I’m going to start looking at 4WD cars for tomorrow. The Porsche Spyder can’t quite be detuned enough, but I suspect there will be other VGTs in the mix.

Enjoyed brands hatch this weekend, why did I stop going on daily races I asked myself..quite addictive when you get into them...somehow wrecked my qualify time before my last race. 1.8sec infront of my previous best of 1.27.2 after first 3 corners, ended up .3 down. Laguna seca for me next week, favourite track

Just out of curiosity, if car infront brakes wayyy too early and I nudged there back and sent them spinning off track, is that my fault?...I didn't recieve a penalty..but felt abit bad on the other guy.

IMO, yes. As the trailing car you are responsible. I know this is little consolation if someone brakes "too early," but your too early may be their braking point. Maybe they're in a different car; maybe they're going faster; maybe they're not good at trail-braking so they hit the brakes earlier.

If I am on someone's bumper coming up on a turn, I'll usually do one of a couple things:
1) Let off the gas ~1 second (give or take) before the braking point to give a little space
2) Get out from behind them a car's width so I can best see the braking point, and still brake a little early.

GET IN !!! .....Yes it was after midnight, yes my lobby had mainly DR B and below in it but FINALLY I won a Daily Race this week. I know Spanish drivers on GT have a bit of a bad rep, but they can be really savvy at times. A lap and a half to go and the driver in front of me gets a penalty, so i just tried to keep close, no intention of passing them.....but just as we exit the last bit of the twisty middle sector the penny drops with them and they slow up, obviously they were either trying give me damage/back me up into the chasing pack or punt me if i tried to pass but i held my nerve, stayed behind going up the hill and flew past them as they served their penalty.......Te veo luego Sergio.. That's me done for this week time for a siesta

C'mon man. That's just unnecessary.

If they ever update the BoP the 911 is bound to get nerfed. That sucks because it's just about my favourite car in the game and I was hoping to use it and be competitive in the next GTWS season.

Ok, that's me done with my Brand's Hatch adventures for the week.

I decided early on I wouldn't be using the Porsche, so went for the Lancer Evo instead. Quali at 1.24.6xx for most of the week which had me in mid pack in late night lobbies and towards the back at peak times. I got pushed and shoved into DR B by Friday afternoon.

Come Saturday I'm determined to improve my quali, which I do to a 1.24.186 which puts me consistently into the Top 10 on the grid. After a few recent races, including a 2nd place and a fight from 9th to 4th I finally get my DR A back.

Great fun all round. I don't mind getting sent into the gravel sometimes when clean races are so satisfying.

Just like the similar time trial with the McLaren MP4/4, I vastly outperformed my usual skill level in Daily Race A. 1 position away from making the global Top 10, and this is likely as high as I'll ever get on a global FP leaderboard. Granted, the lack of participation probably helped with this result, and I had to make use of CSA and TCS (both of which I rarely use - especially CSA), but I can't believe I got this close.

Next weeks races:

A: Tsukuba - Any 4WD road car below <500PS, >1500KG, SS tires, 10 laps
B: Mt. Panorama - Gr.4, RM tires, 5 laps
C: Laguna Seca - Gr.3, RH/RM (RM mandatory) tires, 9x tire wear, 3x fuel, 14 laps
I'll have a dip in this week, it'a a decent mix though nothing spectacular. Couldn't get to grips with the cars to be competitive last week in A and C and not a big fan of the racing at Brands, and didn't really have the time to put in a lot of practice. A lot more comfortable with what's on offer here and have missed Tsukuba actually, it should be an interesting first couple of days at least.

Sidenote, this is really just our lot for the lifespan of this game huh, GT, GT never changes.

I'll be abit more cautious in future, new to the racing properly online thing..but wasn't expecting someone to break before the second marker going up the hill at Brands....lesson of the day expect the unexpected.
