Anybody know if fuel will be a factor in race C next week? I was thinking the McLaren could work round there, but I seem to recall it’s terrible on fuel consumption.

I see on average about 2 per race but usually they are mid pack since they need roulette parts to be way overpowered.
Wow, I realized just now that there are some tuning parts that can only be obtained through a dose of luck. I thought that those gifts were just supposed to save you a little money here and there, but it turns out there's more to it than that. I guess that's why some tuning parts have no recommended retail price and are labelled "Not for sale".

But how realistic is the physics of the road cars? Find it hard to believe a modern GT-R would be as loose as it was at Watkins Glen in Race A a few weeks ago. Or maybe it’s that PD keeps running them on non-sticky tires (like the Vette in the recent time trial)?

Valid question.

Personally the realism aspect is kind of irrelevant because I have nothing to compare it to.

If I'm totally honest, I enjoy the challenge and I like to pretend it's realistic because I don't see myself having the chance to throw a GT-R around The Glen anytime soon.

We are running these at the very ragged edge of grip all the time. I don't think anyone pushes as hard as in a video game so it might be realistic

Probably the best person to answer the question of realism would be someone who actually owns one of the cars in the game.

Personally, I recall finding the characteristics of the ND MX-5 remarkably similar to how the car felt to me in iRacing. There was a nations cup race early on in GT7's life that had them at Tsukuba, and the things I was doing to the car to get it to go fast were genuinely identical to the things I would do to it in iRacing. It surprised me, but it made me feel like the game was finally converging to a point where it was close to the other sims on the market.

There have been absolutely tons of handling and physics adjustments since then though and I certainly feel we have moved away from realism in favour of accessibility, but I don't think the physics are going to be a million miles away from reality.

Logged on today to do a couple of daily races but actually spent my time doing daily b timetrial as I decided to try the other camera views.

I normally use chase cam as I like the fact I can see where cars are around me on track.
Ive switched to bumper cam and I’ve actually found this to be quite a good camera. I feel like I have way more control of the car, and I can ride the curbs the better and the big thing I feel like I’m using all the track now. In chase cam I would sometimes not use the full track width in fear of running wide into the grass. My laps times aren’t any quicker but Im guessing they might get a little quicker.
Anyone else recently changed camera view and found it’s made them better or faster?

Also what views do people use?
A - chase cam
B - cockpit (I do like cockpit view but some cars it’s horrible)
C - bonnet (or “hood”) cam
D - bumper (or “fender”) cam

Probably would've stuck with bonnet cam but the lack of a mirror is a killer, it's not so bad in chase cam because you can see around you but it got me in a lot of avoidable trouble in bonnet cam.

Bumper cam also uses cockpit sounds which are quite frankly stunning.

Bonnet cam. With bumper cam I have the feeling of not seeing far enough ahead. But yes, no idea why there is no rear view mirror in bonnet cam, that really sucks.

Well that was an interesting week 🙈 started at B/S fell to D/B and now back to B/S again. I admit to having lost my temper on a couple of occasions due to the sheer amount of times I was taken out during race b in particular. I sent a message to someone in a fit of rage which I regret (and apologised for). Anyway, decided to concentrate on race c for the last 2 days and it paid off in the end! I have enjoyed the racing last night and today as I have just come to the conclusion that if you can survive the first lap on the hard tyre then you have a good chance of a good finish. Anyway, apologies again to anyone I annoyed this week 🤣

I’m guessing their go-to answer would be that they are going for realism and that there is no rear view mirror on the hood. But then again, riding on the bumper to steer the car isn’t very realistic either, and you get a mirror in that view, so who the heck knows why they make these decisions?! :dunce:

I use bumper cam solely for the rear view mirror. I’d love to use the hood cam, but there is no way of knowing what’s going on around me.

Cockpit cam all the way, just a way more authentic and immersive experience.

Not tried bonnet cam yet, but so far I’m finding in bumper cam with the rear view mirror is so valuable, but then the trade off (like Leon says) im struggling a bit to see past cars when I’m right on the bumper. Having move off the racing line before a corner or lift of the gas earlier.
Did a couple of practice lobbies with friends and been able to change the MFD from radar to either, fuel mix, track map and weather radar was nice. Might be able to actually try a few fuel saving races.

I do love cockpit cam. Like you say the immersive experience is brilliant. Been using cockpit cam in my custom championship season I made.

Used to race in bonnet cam but tried the bumper view and it's much more accurate in the corners and helped me get faster

Can someone explain how chatting works, during a race? I mean, I know you bring up the menu with Continue and Chat on it, then select chat. But what happens to your car while you're typing? I'm guessing there are places on the track where your car keeps up your pace on its own?

And yes, I know, never text and drive. (It had to be said, right?)

Cockpit cam since I promised myself years ago I would once we had the level pf graphics we have now and it was implemented in detail for every car. Have done since Sport and do now in every racing game. It might take some time off me, I haven't tested, but it makes up for it in immersion IMO.

Streaming daily race B all day

Nice stream and idea, man! Had real fun racing this afternoon. /full stop :D

A — chase camera. Should be noted I’m on the DualSense. Was most attracted to this view back in the day since I got to see the car while driving. Cockpit is also amazing for immersion and I love using it while hotlapping cars around Nordschleife and the like on my own. Not capable of using it competitively though, losing way too much time.

Pausing mid race puts your car in auto drive which has little to no impact on your time on most straights. It’ll impact your time heavily in corners but usually, whoever chats during a race is someone who’s crashed so it doesn’t matter for them. Generally, just avoid chatting mid race, I think it’s pretty poor class because it’s disturbing for whoever’s still racing.

I run in bumper cam, because if the mirror, the center radar and general better awareness.
I love to run in cockpit but the wiev is so poor in most cars that it's impossible to be as fast.
If I had VR it would be different because you could just turn the head to see the mirrors.
But I am on the DS4 and a long way from a VR or other stuff.

I don't really watch NASCAR, but I thought this was applicable. Literally happened today. The #1 car and #11 car were racing but the #1 car was pretty far behind. Keep your eye on the red/black car. Check out when he did on the last half of the last lap... ended up getting the pass. Wonder how many 1.5 second penalties he got.

Yeah I feel so much more in tune and part of the car now in bumper cam. Ive noticed since the switch that I’m able to save errors more easily. When in chase cam, if I get on the grass and start to lose control, I was over correcting and end up oversteering and then into a barrier. Since I’m able to control the skid and recover.

One thing that I’m struggling with missing gear changes. Due to engine notes been different I keep missing the gear shift and then end up losing a position on the straights.

Going to miss this weeks daily b. Been the most fun I’ve had in ages on a daily race.
Jumped on tonight to have a few final races. 2 top 5 results and 1 top 10, then my final race totally different to the first 3. So my quali time 1.51.4 (on this account) was good for P4-P7 starts, but the final race I was in a really high rank lobby (for me). Got mixed up with some lower A’s and this time my quali time only good for P14. This race had it all, fun and excitement, hard racing and some good old classic (Jason Plato & Matt Neal) BTCC rubbing is racing vibes.
First lap had a strange rear end crash with the GTR on left hand corner before the pit entry. Then I made maybe a risky divebomb at the final hairpin? To me it’s 50/50. Lap 2-3 nothing much really happened apart from a laggy player made it difficult for me to know where the car was. Lap 4 & 5 so,e paint was traded. Even though I finished P12 I really enjoyed that race!

Bumper cam. For all the reasons stated below

Bumper cam all the way!

1. The sensation of speed is unrivalled.
2. Rear view mirror
3. Cockpit sounds
4. Central HUD placement

Saying that... Judging distances in front can be a bit hit-and-miss

Live Weekly Races changing challenge.

Not last in a wheelie car challenge to trying for first worldwide in the new Race A.

Edit- I succeeded at the wheelie car challenge by pulling a Ross Chastain in the first race. Now for the current Race A at the end is my current best lap and tune in the 2002 Viper which is first in the world by a fair amount for now. With having no roulette parts the Viper is overweight so I don't really understand how it's the best car but I'm not going to question it.
