Decided to jump in and give the Silly alfa a go last night for Race B since I was tired of getting bombed by them. Well, it improved things. Only 2 real spots where the speed of the GTR or WRX made a difference to the drivers I was racing, but I was so much faster through a lot of the other sections that they were only ever barely regaining lost ground. The fact the Alfa accelerates fast enough to overtake a GTR by turn 1 is just absurd. Dropped my QT to a 20.4 and can get to a 19 with practice, but not sure it's worth it. The front couple of drivers seemed to be hell bent on crashing into each other and sometimes us behind all race.

But I had mostly good racing. Was a bit annoyed that my single flying laps between races wasn't improving my time early in the night and kept starting behind some drivers who simply were a lot slower during the race than their qually times would suggest. I was often all over them by turn 1 or trying to pass by the first left. We had some awesome clean battles so it made for a good night of racing. Points aren't everything

That GTR is surprisingly competent, gave it a go around Suzuka on my alt and pipped my quali time by 0.2, with a low 56.1. I'm sure I could pull off an a 55 in an hour or so's lapping, which comparatively is what got me the 56.3 in the Vantage. Super quick and super stable.

Feels like that car popped into the meta out of nowhere, suddenly becoming one of the top dogs a short while ago. Did make me laugh that they nerfed it and buffed the '18 variant, but the '13 is still better anyway. Maybe next month!

Managed a Top 500 qualy lap for Race B driving a non-meta and happy with it 😁 WRX is more stable under braking, at least for me!

Nice lap. Wish it was possible to do that in something non-AWD. Don’t like driving them so no point even trying the gr4 races.

Daily A is so much fun, especially if you approach it like that, just to have some laughs and drive about :D

Just had two races with a DR S in the pole position. Haven't seen this before, did they just issue a new batch of S ratings or something? I was beginning to wonder if the S drivers had their own special servers since I haven't seen them before, but knew they existed.

I played around with FR cars and the AMG isnt that far behind! It's slower/ more sensitive in the tight corners but the gear ratio and better top speed makes up for it in a way. Best lap driving it was 0.6 slower than the Subaru but I think it would do well during the actual race 🙂

I was wrong. Just switched back to the Alfa, and immediately improved my QT, even with what felt like a sub-par lap.

Not a chance. It would take me a whole day (maybe two) to do that many pushups, and then I wouldn't be able to raise my arms enough to get to the wheel. I'll try the WRX, but I need something forgiving around the corners, so I don't have much expectations.
lolol

Yeah, they gave them out a few days ago - so you'll start seeing them more as people register/verify their accounts etc. to confirm eligibility.

There was a news post about it here.

I'm giving up in Race A this week. I can't get a decent race going without being involved with an incident I had nothing to do with. I always seem to be collateral damage when people wreck in front of me. It was still fun driving around Daytona at an unreasonable speed in a cool car. I'll switch to Suzuka and get a few races in the next few days.

Well I tried Race B and had good starting positions. It did not end well for the 3 races I ran.
Got punted in every race by people dive bombing the corners and then got braked check
by a guy that swerved in front of me to keep from being passed.

I'm done with that race, love the track, but that was crazy stuff going on there.
Oh yeah I lost half of my B rating too.

Just gave Race C a shot in the Vette. Not my fastest car but the one I trust the most to at least give me consistent laps. Started in pole in B Rank and got rammed in the esses. Unghosted and rammed again. 1st to 14th lol. Ended up crawling back to 5th and yeah....5/5 doesn't work with the car. Tires were shot by the end of Lap 9.

Also fast with the Vantage and Vision so might try those with softs first to see how long those last. Fun track.

4/6 in the Vantage is comfortable, 5/5 much less so.

A few years ago before they split the FIA series (as they were known then) into classes as we have now, I gained an S/S rating although I was a B/S rated driver because I came within the top 5 drivers in the manufacturer in my region. Not many drove the Dodge Viper then.

Did a few Bs yesterday as I was getting bored with Cs. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. Running FR cars for the time being. The Aston has been my favorite of them (Vette, Jag, AMG, and Aston) thus far. I want to try out the Mustang as well.

Eventually I'll probably succumb and quali with and use the GTR. As we all know, nothing else can much compete. They're so much better coming out of the corners and the top end can't be touched.

I gave it one race last night and decided it wasn’t for me. No need to drop my DR down any further.

I’ll probably make some efforts with Race C the rest of the week, even though I’m pretty tight on time and likely won’t get much free time to play GT7 over the next few days.

Does anyone have any tips for Race B? I'm trying to get faster but I seem stuck around 3:25 flat. Meanwhile the top time is 9 seconds a lap faster. I'm just confused where there is 9 seconds. Are there any "gotcha" tricks to this course? I'm doing ok, currently at DR B and mostly in the top 5 outside of me making a mistake.

Watch Tidgney’s track guide and keep practicing. That’s what I usually do. Watching some of the top guys replays helps too, but I find the guide and practice to be more fruitful.

Yea I did watch his video and I think I can get down to his times, but he's still 4 seconds a lap off the top times, so I feel like there is some odd place on the track to keep speed. I'll keep trying. I do like how my splits are getting better and the drivers are MUCH more respectful now.

Question here about practice. Are you setting up a custom race or is there a lobby where people get ready for the upcoming races (I don't know a thing about lobbies).
I set up custom races and try and mimic the settings for a week's race to practice with the AI cars. I've found there is a difference in handling and performance between what I can create vs qualifying and races.
Not sure if anyone responded but I do a 3 things when practicing Daily Races.

Custom Races - I will run my own custom races against the AI. I know the AI are very predictable but at least you can sort of get a feel for tyre wear & fuel usage but most importantly you get a rough idea for lap times.
Online Lobby - As the single player Time Trial function doesn’t have BOP settings, I’ll set up a private lobby so i can run quali laps, with BOP on and with fuel and tyre wear off.
Online Lobbies with friends/randoms - I’ll usually join a friends lobby to run practice races or I’ll just join a random practice lobby.

Weather & Time settings - I’ll just stick weather to sunny with some clouds, and always afternoon sessions. They is no way of know these until the monday, but PD seems to run the same sort settings for daily race.

Hope that helps.

Any of the three AWD cars will be competitive, I just find the Nissan doesn't lock up the rears the way the other two do. I was racing a guy yesterday in a Silvia, stunned how fast he was so i tried it. It's a REALLY weird car, feels like there is huge understeer but 9 times from 10 it will turn in, but then that 1 time from 10 it just ploughs forward....... try it but it's weird man.

I am a high DR-A, I am racing in the second split and fighting for podiums and my best lap is a middling 3.21. So that's a solid 3+ seconds which is a lot. There's no tricks on this lap but it's peculiar circuit where the corners are very hard to read and you can push quite hard through some of them whilst others bite. There's not a lot of really hard braking, best to pulse a bit and carry mid corner speed whilst as usual, getting on the throttle faster than one would in real life. It's too big a track to specify certain corners but start by absolutely making sure you hit your apexes, any running wide loses gobs of time, apex, apex, apex. Always apex.

As for myself, interesting night where yet again my first race was frozen which seems to happen since the update. Otherwise, my pace is really quite good, battling for podiums as described above. One big issue is I always have an Alfa behind me and there is no way to stop it from passing into T1, just no way, if i block the inside they have the aero to go round me on the outside than I am stuck behind them. Two of my three races I had to deal with a stereotypical bump-passer from down south, in the alfa of course and their corner entry is quite a bit higher so he'd just nerf me off and keep going. I finally had enough and absolutely annihilated him into the realm by the second race but got 4 seconds for my trouble.

His issues were intentional but I am noticing a trend where guys need to learn that some cars enter corners way quicker than others. I saw the same thing at Seaside, the Supra cannot turn in like the other cars and I was often nudged.

I try to brake a bit earlier and then accelerate earlier than it "feels right" at first. Worked for me in the evil Alfa.

Happy/ sad moment for me. Was pleased with my time (1:20:8) with the WRX at St Croixe but was still starting P8/ P9 and getting stuck behind players who don't accept being overtaken.

Tried improving but couldn't so just switched to the GTR as a test and within 2 or 3 laps practice, was already 0.4s faster! BoP is crap and no wonder we always end up using same 2 or 3 cars over and over and over and over again!

Getting a bit boring now, so many cars but can never drive them competitively 🤐 At least started and finished P4 after setting that lap just now!

My DR has gone up slightly, even though I've started middle-of-the-pack most races. I guess it just depends on the group of people in the lobby.

Make sure you're using one of the "good" cars, like the Alfa 155, the GT-R, or the WRX. There's potentially others, but just make sure you're using a car well-suited to the track. How do you know? Drive it and see how well you do compared to the other cars. Just because it's at the top of the QT leaderboard doesn't mean it'll work well for you. I can't drive the GTR well at all on this track.

When you approach corners, your car will want to slide a lot because of the hard tires, so make sure you're braking and turning early enough. Also remember, slow in, fast out. It really matters on this track. And so does "use the whole track."

There's a handful of sections of long straights - concentrate your efforts on the turn leading into them, otherwise you can lose a lot of time.

Watch a reply of someone in the QT leaderboard who's using the same car as you. Pay careful attention to how they negotiate each corner. Personally, I record one of those laps, so it's easy to refer to when I'm qualifying.

Hope this helps.

That's one of the reasons I don't want to use that car. Since I'm in the Alfa, I usually pull up beside the GTR, but let them beat me in the corner and then I try to stay on their butt after the corner. If I do it right, I don't lose any positions to the people behind me. I hate battling side-by-side right off the bat - it usually means both of us will lose positions. I wish other people realized that the first turn is not where to try and win the race. But then again, I'm a middling B, so what do I know? Except I know I'd rather have fun than ruin someone else's race just because my imaginary digital car is faster at the start than theirs. Because of course that would be something worth bragging about, LOL.

Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen.

I've been racing online since GT Sport came out, about 5 years ago. Since then, we've seen probably at least 15 different versions of the penalty system. Not a single version has had a consensus approval from players.
Some have been really ridiculous. I've got clips of me getting divebombed by a car that then goes off the track, and then I receive a 7 second penalty, along with an SR deduction. There were times when there was effectively no penalties at all, and we would self-police.

There's always been jerks on the track. Of course, that won't change. People have different ways of handling that issue.

Waiting for the bad guys to be dealt with by an ideal penalty system is futile. After 5 years of online GT racing, I can't recall a more reasonable penalty system than our current one (which isn't exactly great). It has been much, much worse.

One just has to accept that some races are gonna have unfair occurrences.
Don't wait on the sidelines for things to get better. They won't.

If you check the daily race forum archives, I bet you could find people lamenting the same things as you, since daily races started.
There's a thread here on GTP called something like "Does the penalty system still suck?".it had well over 800 pages when GT7 came out and there where just a few versions of the system that we liked

I prefer no penalty system to one that get it wrong all the time
Then when someone is clearly dirty (really clearly, not just something that can be attributed to inexperienced driving) I would dedicate a whole race to teach them that wasn't paying off.

Set up a backup account, don't pay any attention to your DR, drive any car you want, just have fun racing.
I haven't done a Gr.4 race on my main account in months.
I did that, initially. Then since I was so ahead of new players started caring about my results 🤣 Over 50% top 5 finishes, tens of wins and fastest laps and pole starts 😂 Opposite in what I originally intended 😅

Naaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you gotta take advantage, it's a dead easy pass if it's Alfa on GTR, the Alfa just cruises past, take the place man.

Maltasaab, interesting lap. You are 1 second faster than me and ALL of it is in sector 3, everywhere else we are a near dead heat. Hmmmmmm.

I've tried that in the past and don't think it works when the BoP is so out of whack
Within a relative short while you are back at your natural pace and then you are again being beaten by the meta cars all the time. Equal frustration even if you don't care about your ratings it6not fun loosing every battle

I'm at that point now. I don't bother about the leaders in the metas, just try to beat those lovely fools in similar cars to mine. Fun racing with the backmarkers, even if we are half a lap behind the sheep.
