Done a few race A so far on both accounts. Had some good racing, some messy mistakes, but overall people have been working to race well. Turn 1 can be a lottery but I've beenable to get through clean almost every time. The only problem time was when I spun myself on the curb.

If you haven't tried, go for it. It's fun, but they need to get rid of the racing tires. Get some sports tires on that thing.

Second race at Interlagos this week, and I got absolutely creamed in T1 of Lap 1, ruining my race (P5 to P15). The guy managed to wrack up 8.5 seconds of penalties in the first 32 seconds, and I have no idea what he was thinking.

I think a lot of times these are people who should have turned off the game a few moments ago and gone an chilled out. Instead they started another race, you can see he gets bumped from behind at the start, it's not much but if you're already on the edge it's enough to push them over.

Driving the daillies to the point of frustration leads to this IMO.

A man with good taste, nice! Wich Alfa do you drive?

Without @RacingGrandpa 's great livery, of course. 🥳

NOTE: Would have been my 2nd win in GT7 in over 200 races.. I am not kidding...that almost seems hard to do even if you are trying to lose on purpose.., which I am not...lol. But, I tend to over-qualify and admittedly don't race well. And I seldom get slotted in the 1, 2 and 3 spot to start.....

All still fun though..
Don't worry too much about the win ratio. As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters. I'm at 2 from around 150 races (and another 2 from 100 or so on an abandoned backup account). Just makes the rare wins more special when they do come around - and the panic more intense when you find yourself in a winning situtaion.

He swerve-blocks at the start, he doesn’t get bumped.

He’s a troll, pure and simple. I’ve seen it a million times. Just wants to ruin other races and has no interest in any kind of clean driving.

Crack, booze or the cat jumped onto the controller…
It's amazing how easy it is to get distracted. I wish there was a button you could click that says "Squirrel!".
Interesting lines he was taking.
I was wondering if he was taking lines, too. Oh, is that not what you meant?
Not as on form as the other night but still a good race.
Great term "Not as on form" - we've all been there.

I've been there. As many of my posts on this forum can attest to.

You may be correct about the troll, I don't know, but you're definitely correct that he was trying to block the buy behind him. He's driving a car that's slower off the start, and he was probably frustrated at getting passed at the start. I think he was just paying too much attention to the guy behind him, and not enough on what he was doing, and he missed his braking point. At least, that's happened to me plenty of times.

I don't know what he was thinking the rest of the video. It's possible he was gathering himself, trying to decide if he wanted to continue. He ended up doing a reasonable job of getting back into the race, even after serving that penalty (if memory serves).

OMG, been there way too many times.

I totally agree. There was a point where I was winning a lot of races, early on. I'm not sure why - it's not like I'm a great driver - certainly not early on. Now if I get a win once a week, I'm thrilled. But the point is to have fun, and if that's happening, then nothing else matters. (Reminder to self: have fun!)

My thoughts exactly. I have a win percent of about 2.
Now if I get a win once a week, I'm thrilled.
I have to ask, how many races do you do in a week?
And does the fact that you artificially lower your DR to be more competitive has anything to do with this? I mean, if the goal is to win I understand that, but I'd the goal is fun that can just as well be had at the back of a higher lobby

Oh, that last sentence. Very recognizable. I'm always talking to myself when i'm in the lead, saying things like: come on Freddy, don't **** this up now, you got this!"

And then i **** it up and finish 2nd or 3rd haha.

I'm really enjoying this week's racing, no wins but managing a few top 5s in A, B and C. Usually I'd only stick to one of the races.

Had a couple of B races with 8 to 9 different cars in the top 10! Race C: My fuel saving is obviously not the best - I've had the best results in the NSX, with a couple of P2s. Lapping around 2:10.

Race A is great fun, but a bit chaotic. Would love a full Grand Prix Legends style line-up of cars! I just downloaded the GPL 2020 demo on my laptop and the game still looks gorgeous.

Race B is kinda meh this week. Only done a handful of races and they’ve all been fairly predictable. I start mid pack, since my QT isn’t that great, and there’s always someone looking to push their way up front so I inevitability get bumped into and slowed down. Couple of P10 finishes in B/S lobbies last night. Same thing as the previous night.

Decided to give it a go in VR for my final race since my VR pace is about equal to my 2D pace now. First time trying Sport in VR. Started 10th and finished P7. Sport mode is a hoot in VR! I’ll probably start doing 1 or 2 races each night in VR.

I sold my old VR headset due horrendous motion sickness - i maybe never gave it enough time, but it took me half an hour to feel normal again 😕

Yeah there's something very meh about race B. Pace is white hot but the hards totally ruin the second sector. It's a crash fest in sector two as well..... so decided to do Race A.

Managed a low 56 qualy time which is half decent, running 57's in the race in clean air. Oddly enough I seem fastest and safest with counter steer on strong, i usually dislike strong but on this car it's the only way i can keep the rear stable under braking. It does burn my exiting parabolica, i am losing about 3 tenths so it must be cutting power. In saying that, I am absolutely LAUNCHING out of Lesmo 2 and the second chicane, making up a huge amount of time.

My plan was to trundle around, still race but yield if it is getting hairy so I can lift my SR from B. But nope, 4 races, absolutely HAMMERED in 3 of them, twice into T1, once into T2, nothing I can do, smashed fair up the rear end. Like guys, YOU NEED TO BRAKE.

Give race A a go in VR. I think that one was specifically added for the new VR users. I can only imagine the RA272 in VR is a beautiful experience.

Yea, I saw you in race A on the PHG stream last night. Maybe I’ll give it a go tonight.

It took me a while to adjust and not get motion sick. I still play mostly in 2D. I play in VR 30 minutes or so each night. As I said, last night was my first attempt in Sport. It was fun.

Oh god, was it the one where I locked up three times and lost the rear? Man, until i got the assists right i was a mess.

EDIT: Found it, go to 2 hrs 35 mins, I get sent to Narnia. Says his brakes failed but he didn't jump on them until well past the 100m board. He then does basically the same thing next race but swerves to miss everyone. He's not running any assists and desperately needs them IMHO.

No idea. I just had the stream on in the background and only noticed you were in the lobby because you had fast lap at the time. You finished 4th I believe.

I’ve been wondering how many people are racing solely in VR because I began to use it on the 22nd and haven’t raced a flat screen since. It has taken time and still getting used to the no HUD in race but I am really enjoying VR.

I did have my first episode of it wanting to rescan my surroundings right as B race was hitting T1 last night and I freaked out not knowing what was happening to me or racers near me.
I hit continue as though I had gone to chat and when I came back to the race the car had been in auto mode and maneuvered me through a t1 pile up lol.

Up 3 places because of a massive pile up that I didn’t know happened until I studied the replay post race. First time I’ve ever had it happen and learned that if it is asking for rescan while doing practice I better do it then so it doesn’t happen when racing.

Another note on using VR is that you really need to watch for yellow flag on the sidelines because you don’t have HUD so it’s additional awareness to take in.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t even thought about flags while driving in VR. I’m diligent about checking flag stations while on track IRL. I guess I’ll need to start doing the same while driving virtually.

I haven’t experienced the rescan playing area thing yet. In fact, I don’t believe I’ve had any glitches or odd behavior while using VR. It’s getting more enjoyable every time I use it.

Somehow I managed to get 3 CRBs in a row last night in Race A. I've avoided qualifying so I could avoid being punted in T1, but several times I've started 6th or 7th in a mostly full race even without setting a time. The biggest hazards haven't been punting for me, but instead being stuck behind someone who doesn't go at the start for some reason, or being next to someone when they lose their car and spear into me. Aside from these genuine mistakes though, the racing has been pretty clean. People have been leaving me space, even in the chicanes, and even the strongest defenders have done so with minimal contact. And these are in races that range from DR A+ to B.

Also, a tip for anyone running this race: find out where the rev limiter kicks in and don't upshift until just before it does. Revving the nuts off of this thing gains you noticeable time.

You nailed it with your point about honor. I totally understand. People will always find a way to game the system. Unfortunately, right now, the “game” is to be as horrible to everyone else as possible with almost no repercussions. Honor obviously isn’t motivating people, but it ought to be motivating PD, right? They should want to at least have a game where people can expect to have at least a few reasonable rules enforced, other than wall riding and track limits. At this point a bad penalty system would be far better than no system at all because it’s pretty obvious that people won’t police themselves. I know some people will still abuse the system, but if there was at least a risk of penalties it might minimize some of the ought right filthy tactics we’re seeing today.

I’m willing to admit that I may be a bit too optimistic about that though. . .

Very short shifting! On the Toyota 86 it’s before the halfway point in the rev bar. On the Ferrari it’s just as the light is visible on the bar. On the TT, it varies. Here’s Tidgney’s latest video about it.

For all we know, PD is still issuing SR penalties like these ones from my GT Sport races.
At least, in GTS, they would tell us when we got SR deductions by flashing the orange SR down icon at the top of the screen.

They are definitely still giving SR deductions without time penalties, but for some reason, they don't want to notify us.

I don't understand GT logic on this, there are some absolute morons on Monza now. I get rear ended at the T3, smashed into someone else and I get a 5 second penalty, its crazy
These are exactly the things I'm flabbergasted by. How are they actual decisions? It's not just negligence by PD, it's a series of actual decisions to leave things at this state of disarray! I'm going to charitably assume that they are experimenting on us this week to see how it goes, but it would be nice if they a) notified us as to how and when they apply the deductions, and b) gave us some sort of way to repair the damage to our SRs through little-to-no faults of our own.

after a full year i think ive accepted that theres not really anyone at the studio who plays sport mode in the way any of us do. they may ask for input from drivers etc, but i cant believe anyone there is experiencing what it feels like to qualify for a race, drive it clean, and then be penalized for being intentionally rear-ended.

that said, its weeks like this one where i have some hope of improvement in the penalty system. someone in the studio may actually do one of the races because of the new car / vr update. and they'll see what we're all experiencing, that it would be a lot more fun if there was any sense to the penalty system.

got the honda down into the 1:55.5s with TCS1 and visible braking zones (no CS/TSM). it is possible! very slow out of corners but its the only way i can complete consecutive laps without exploding the car. haven't run many races since monday, and ive had my race effectively ruined somewhere in Lap 1 each time. whats funny is that the driving was cleaner before this SR thing, even accounting for how difficult this car is.

Completely agree, I actually regret setting a reasonable qualifying time, all it’s done it line me up as a target. I’ve had one race today where I escaped the carnage and finished second, the other 4 or 5 I’ve been smashed to last and clawed back to top 6. It’s painful, rage quitting only just about being avoided

The thing with SR is it's easily recoverable, we have time on our side for that....but it potentially comes at a cost which will be DR if you aren't at the back or really sharp end of the field.

Even tactically dropping back a few places mid pack to try and maintain or preserve DR while focusing on not getting tangled up in other people's battles or getting too greedy if they are battling in front and you can repair your SR quite quickly.
