Maybe I need to hire you to do some quali laps for me. I can pass a fair few people in the races, but doesn’t mean much when I’m starting on the back row.
Maybe between the two of us, we can make one real driver?
It’s a real thing in track driving.

Red Mist explanation by Ross Bentley
Thanks for the link, and it's dead-on, for me:

Red Mist is typically used to describe when a driver has lost control of his or her emotions, and is driving somewhat recklessly. Think of a time when you’ve seen a driver turn into a bit of an animal on the track, trying to chase down another driver..

Typically when a driver gets into the Red Mist mode, they’re over-thinking, and are overly-focused on something – most often someone else (as in, “I’m going to catch that driver and run him off the track!”).

Sad to say that this description describes perfectly what happens to me sometimes. I wonder if having a name for it will help? I might be able to identify that I'm red-misting, and back away from it. I mean, I'm much better than I used to be, but it still happens.

Thanks for the info!

Taken a good few attempts but finally did it. Seemingly ended up way ahead going 3 hard to 7 mediums instead of starting on meds, wasn't even expecting to challenge but won't refuse it! Nearly back up to S SR as well

I said I wasn't going to but I went did a lot of C qualifying laps, I definitely for my ability can't do any more than a 2:04:6 maybe a tenth of that but that is it; it's really diminishing returns for me now.

That said it's a good time but the problem I have is that I refuse to do fuel saving so I race it. Sometimes that works others it doesn't but this is definitely a week I feel less engaged in any of the races.

Edit: spelling
I find the one-stop works in mixed lobbies where I start up front and can just drive away. In all A lobbies I’m not fast enough to get around the no-stoppers before there is a diminishing return to that strategy. It’s fun to try though!
[edit for typo leading to opposite meaning]

Maybe get a “red mist” logo taped to your steering wheel to remind you not to go mad! I’ve literally done the “I’m gonna catch that guy” thing just the other day and felt ridiculous an hour later. Heck, it almost happened to me this morning where some bozo barged his way through T2 at Maggiore, then torpedoed everyone else in the esses later. I’m was determined to get him but he threw himself off the track, song was able to get control of myself and just drive on. But I think I need to post a reminder for myself anyway, just in case . . .

I want the option to have a hand reach out and slap me when I get wrong-headed. "Snap out of it, you moron!"

I just did some Q laps and then a race at Interlagos with only TCS (1) - no ASM or CA, in the 911. This is a first for me, in Gr.3 cars (that I can remember, anyway). I honestly didn't notice any negative effects of turning off ASM and CA. I can't say for sure that I was faster, although during the Q laps I felt like I didn't drive all that well, yet I kept close to my best QT, so who knows?

I drove a handful of laps without TCS either, and I honestly felt like it was faster (which is no surprise to a lot of you, but this is the first track where I think I actually noticed the positive effects of turning TCS off). The problem is that it's pretty easy to forget about it and revert to old habits and just stomp on it out of a tight corner, and I didn't want to race that way, at least not yet.

There's 3 corners that are problematic, and two of them won't surprise you, but the third might (or might not).

The first is T1 of course. A little too quick on the gas means visiting Dead or Alive land (you have to be old to get that reference).

The second is T10 of course - the tight hairpin on the back side.

The third is T12 right after that, that leads to the sweeping left-hander leading to the finish line. With TCS set to 1, in the 911 I can downshift down to 1st to make the apex at around 58-60 mph, then shift to 2nd and stomp on it and have no problem. I almost always gain time on people here. But with TCS off, it's really hard to know how much gas I can give it, without sliding into the grass, and it makes me very tentative which means I would give up time here to other drivers. But I'll do more Q laps without it and see what happens.

Here's the biggest laugh for me: Up until a week or two ago, I always avoided the 911 because I thought it was too hard to handle. I have no idea where I got that idea from, because the 911 is a joy to drive, even on hard tires.
my dog silently gets up & sneaks out the room
That's funny! Dogs are amazingly perceptive. So are horses, but I wouldn't want one in my room. I "step in it" enough as it is.

I'd taken a break for a couple days from GT7 as I was getting a little burnt out on it and it was making me angry. Never good.

Went back tonight and did a couple races. I improved my QT for race B but I'm still in the 33s. I was bummed to miss the 32s by a some thousandths of a second. Anyway entered a race and qualified P5. I would have to watch the replay to see how it actually played out but I remember the top 6 being pretty close and the rest of the field fell behind. There was some contact ahead of me but mostly it was clean racing. I edged up and finished fourth and got a clean racing bonus! Turns out race B is being kind to me (mostly) this week. Now I said that bad juju will strike at me and that will be the end of my good luck..

The tried to improve my QT for race A. Could not get anywhere close to my low 1:57 tonight. TCS on or off, CS off or strong; did not matter. I tried various combinations and settled on TCS 1 and entered a race. Qualified in P3 but as usually happens lost a spot to T1. Then got shaky at T6 and lost some most spots. Lap 1 was, from what I could see mostly clean, but lap 2 fell apart. I got hit twice at turn 1, allowing 3 cars past. Then one of those had a "bumping" session with the third car that past me. As we then entered turn 4 the car two ahead over braked, causing the car in front of me to brake faster than I was expecting and I rear ended him. I let them pass me again at T5. The remainder of the lap was a crapfest and a number of us got penalties. After that it settled down again and I ended up finishing P8, but it was not the race I was expecting.

I find it ironic that Race A, the one focused on SR and not DR turns out to be more rough this week than Race B, which for me, has generally seen some pretty decent and fair racing. Okay, there's been rough spots in B as well, it's not all unicorns, but compared to other weeks, it has been a lot better in my eyes.

Agreed. Great idea, perfect track for it, very immersive in the cockpit view.

I do wish more people had the car and were using liveries and if it was a little cleaner... but we can't have everything

Got the whole morning tomorrow to run races, make liveries and take photos, can't wait!
I made 27 liveries for the car...... Haven't raced more than twice in the same. But decided to stay in the JPS for the rest of the week.

i have a weird but cute wake up call.. if i start to get a bit 'red misty' while racing, my dog silently gets up & sneaks out the room.. 🤣
Oh man! My dog used to give me a shameful look when I just turned on the PS2 before he’d shuffle out of the room. He knew what was coming . . .

It’s funny, because a lot of people feel the same way. The MR cars rotate differently, and the 911 does have a weird problem at Laguna Seca, but once you find the point where you can manipulate under/oversteer just by the throttle, it makes you feel like a real race car driver!

I'm sure I've said before, but I'll say it again: I'm not an artist. And I know my tastes are different than other people's. With that out of the way, I love making different liveries too (although 27 is a crazy number). The differences in my liveries are mostly just colors, although I have some Dodgers liveries too.

Anyway, I don't know why I find it, I don't know, soothing? to make liveries, but I do. Sometimes I do it just to change my luck, and honestly, I swear it works sometimes. I've always loved graphic editing, even though as I said I'm not an artist. So it's cool to be able to race in a livery I created myself. It's honestly one of the things I enjoy most in this game. And some mornings, I'll spend 2 or 3 hours just tweaking liveries, because as I'm sure you know, nothing is ever finished.
<"Snap out of it" meme>
That's a great meme, and I love the movie it's from, "Moonstruck". Nick Cage is awesomely quirky in it. "I LOST MY HAND! I LOST MY BRIDE!" Makes me and my wife laugh every time.

Those struggling at the start of Race A, TC1 for like the blink of an eye then flip it to TC0.

I think you guys may be right and my straight line issue is AT and not running out the gears. Still, had some good racing this week, fun little car i just wish the brakes were not so easy to lock up.

got my first CRB in probably 10 race A attempts! i had it for 250/500 races prior lmao. i think the only penalty i got in any of them was once for track limits (which ruined a CRB), but i definitely was responsible for my share of carnage as well.

making the switch from TCS 1 / no cs to 0 / weak CS got me from 1:55.5 to 1:55, but the impact was bigger during races. the input lag with TCS was causing me more 'racing incidents' than anything else - you really need to be able to react in a split second with these cars, or be able to drop a gear when necessary. also i will echo the @NevilleNobody sentiment here - ive been starting in TCS 1, though i actually keep it on all the way through T1 to avoid spinning out. when the coast is clear i turn it back off.

aside: after 1.5 years with the G29 i finally looked into improving the throttle. i tend to avoid blaming anything but myself, but driving Gr3 cars with TCS off has me wondering if the stock throttle spring is too loose for what i need. i read about changing the clutch with the throttle to get some more control, but i just went ahead and got some well-reviewed replacement springs for both brake and throttle. any other mod advice is welcome.

The 911 doesn't come alive until you turn TC to 0. That's where it's strength lies. I had it set to 3 before and was always slow in it.

Don't knock it - slow stuff fast used to be the best LAN races going, and the Al Gore Eco Challenge in particular at High Speed Ring was always a riot.
Yeah, that's true! Will definitely give it a chance.
There are also rumours that there will be rain at race A and C.

Yeah, 27 seems a little obsessive, I can see that. I started as soon as the car came out, we ran a lobby race with it 2 weeks ago. I think we might run one next weekend as well.
And since I think this car is going to be a stable ware for TPC it's good to be prepared :)

But the real truth is that I enjoy my time in the livery editor as much as I enjoy my racing.

Zero interest in Race or B next week, I love the idea of C, really do, but find the really fast cars much harder on GT7 than GT Sport. Will give it a go in practice and qualy but i'll likely embarrass myself in the race as I also STINK at suzuka.

@Bullwinkle I don't detest Suzuka, it's a magnificent trace track but I have huge issues there. The Esses on D-pad are just traumatic, middle of the lap is OK then I get to Spoon and NEVER hit it right so get killed on the straight. I then have absolutely NO IDEA how folks take the final chicane so fast and get such a good exit. So i am horribly slow, just horrible. At a track I like I can maybe, maybe nudge within 2% of the top time, Suzuka, never ever inside 5%, even then it's a one off.

Maybe it's time to try and learn the triggers as gas and brake now? I know it's really hard to change a long habit and muscle memory but it can be done.
I know because a friend of mine just did and he got a lot faster from it.
It will be hard and it will be tedious but it is doable and once done it's done for good

I may pull the wheel out for this one, give it a lash, do 100 laps then grab the controller and better my time by 1 second by the 3rd lap

Interesting. I haven't tried the Formula cars since I upped my controller sensitivity to max. I wonder if I'll finally be able to nail the hairpin?

Race A is certain to be a total riot! Can't wait.

There's a smaller step you can take that will help in a lot of ways.
A couple years ago, the was an A race at BB Raceway. It's big, sweeping turns required smooth steering input to be competitive.
I was getting killed in qualifying, due to my D-Pad steering. Just for the heck of it, I switched to left stick.
I was instantly faster, and never went back.
Also, I like having L3 for my horn. 🎺
