I had this crazy idea of testing all Gr.3 cars in prep for race C. I failed as that is a lot of cars!

I did a lot though over four-ish hours. I set up a custom race with BOP for Grand Valley. I forgot to adjust fuel so it’s at 100% full but it’s consistent across cars. Racing medium tires. Each time is the best of four laps; one out lap and three flying laps. If I made mistakes then that is counted because if a car is difficult to drive then even if potentially quick, if I can’t get a reasonable time in three laps it doesn’t warrant any further attention.

Daily Race C
1:49.400 R.S.01 GT3 ‘16
1:49.432 911RSR (1 lap)
1:49.435 Ford GT Race Car ‘18
1:49.698 4C Gr.3
1:49.709 R8 LMS EVO ‘19
1:49.724 RCZ Gr.3 - need more time to learn handling
1:49.761 650S GT3 ‘15
1:49.985 GT-R NISMO GT3 ‘18 - unpredictable handling
1:50.019 458 Italia GT3 ‘13
1:50.239 RC F GT3
1:50.543 Mercedes AMG GT3 ‘20
1:50.467 Huracán GT3 ‘15 - crashed twice so slow time
1:50.646 BRZ GT300 ‘21 - crashed last lap
1:50.724 R8 LMS ‘15
1:51.070 Mercedes AMG GT3 ‘16 - horrid
1:51.114 SLS AMG GT3 ‘11 - horrid
1:51.163 GR Supra Racing Concept - flaws all laps (hard to control)
1:51.215 V12 Vantage GT3 ‘12 - horrid
1:51.725 DBR9 GT1 ‘10
1:51.879 F-type Gr.3 - slowest true lap - others had penalties - could be a contender. Needs more time.
DNF Genesis X - oversteers off track even in 3rd - horrid so gave up

Some cars are just not my driving style. Others I need more time with. After a week with the R.S.01 it’s not surprising that was the fastest (I was actually about .2s faster still but I accidentally deleted that time) as Grand Valley is actually quite similar to Trial Mountain.

I was looking forward to Grand Valley as last time I did well on it but this time I’m not so sure. This will require tire strategy and I don’t know which cars are best for which tires yet… Also some cars can handle very differently on racing hards.

Perhaps I should give Sardegna a go instead, though I’m worse with group 4 typically. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Have to try both and see how it goes.

I took the Alfa to Sardegna for some qualifying. I hope the 458 will feel better

On a side note, 1 year 4 months and still no Daytona Road Course in Race B.

Sardegna unfortunately has a couple of areas where it's very easy to just nudge someone into the sand, as has happened twice to me this morning already.

Usually the morning racing is decent but seeing a lot of BS today.

I did a few laps this morning a a few cars. The 458 was quickest. Though it looks like the 650S will be meta.

I forgot what course this was and once I got on it I was like "Ah, yes, this one was quite rowdy last time I race there". That uphill into the left hander is a huge dive bomb alley as is the left hander at the end of the starting straight..

Guys I was struggling all weekend with race B, I was unable to get within 0.5 seconds of my lap record and absolutely could not figure out why.

Then Sunday I started watching my replays to diagnose where I was making mistakes and I discovered that since Friday my brake pedal was stuck at between 2% - 3%

I raced ALL WEEKEND with it stuck, but the great irony is that it made me improve on that track so when I fixed the problem, on the third lap that I attempted I easily BEAT my lap record by 0.4 seconds

There are 2 main opposite strats

Start on RH and then lap 2 switch to RM or start on RM and lap 8 swap to RH

I don't think are many viable alternatives when you look at race pace/total race time.
Which of these are better if your tendency is to hang back a bit on the first few turns to try and avoid chaos and gain some places by attrition?

If you are at the front end of the grid I'd go RM to start as you'll be able to use them.

If you are gonna be in a lot of traffic then I'd start on the RH as you'll just be burning the mediums and not getting the most out of them.

Just had my first Race B this week. Running the 155, and it's a great car for this track. Especially when rounding T8 and going up the hill - if you hit the corner correctly, the engine doesn't bog down at all when you start up the hill.

Started P3, then had P2 by more than 1 1/2 seconds until the last lap when I let someone get close enough so they could rear-end me on T8.

Just plowed right into my butt, knocking me into the sand. He finished 2nd WITH NO PENALTY! I thought we were done with this crap - there have been consistent penalties when rear-ending someone off the track. Not this week, I guess.

And no, I didn't brake too early. In fact, I missed my braking point, and I was barely going to make the corner as it was.

He apologized. but honestly, right now, I think it's BS. I'll probably cool off later, but right now, not so much.

Finished P5 when it should have easily been P2. I'm also not thrilled that I drove poorly enough on the last lap and a half that he could catch up.

Oh well. Damn it hurts to type those two words.

I think one thrilling, well-fought close race is so much fun that it can make up for several races ruined by another player.

I’m not sure it’s possible to enjoy this game without that mindset.

Daily B is a bit of a nightmare on Mondays, I set a 1:26:323 this afternoon in the McLaren which is good it's a sub 400 time at the moment.

The problem is.....last weeks quits and "racing incidents" put my SR in to A. That of its self isn't a problem however. There are very mixed rating grids on a Monday especially earlier in the evening Europe/Uk

4 races, 2 wins, 1 second and one recovered 11th after being hit by the guy who was in 9th to start about 1.9 seconds QT behind in TURN 1.

It really really does baffle me how people take the first lap like a flying lap :/

Yep, you're absolutely right. Thanks. And I've had enough time now to cool off, so I won't worry about it. I always say that the first day or two of the new race week, we have to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt, because we're all getting used to the tracks, cars, and conditions.

I suspect what happened was that since I missed my braking point, and he was trying to gain on me, he missed his as well. Been there done that. I'm actually more ticked at PD for not enforcing penalties on this track like they've been doing recently in the other races. There's a small amount of pleasure to be had knowing the other guy didn't benefit from his actions. At least, when the penalties kick in.

Thanks for the wise words.

Moments like these got me fuming. I always sit in silence with an emotionless look on my face for a minute after races like these.

In these races it pays a lot to just break earlier and not get caught up in the go really really fast stuff.

Daily B is hugely technical. The track looks simple but the way you make time round it takes a lot of considered driving.

In QT it's fairly easy as most of the corners except the sweeping ones have alternate lines.

It's a track where being able to modulate/trail brake really helps. It's also a place where some corners are faster to brake early, turn in and then go.

It has its downsides being a narrow track and punishing run offs at some of the worst/best pick your poison turns.

I do think on RMs this would be such an enjoyable race. The race hards really kill any flow as you wait for them to hook up.

NGL, i'm quite enjoying this track. I agree, it's very technical, you can't really relax except for the main straight. Reminds me of Zolder with the turbines. Put down a 1.26,037 just now which put me in 184rd. Trail braking indeed did save me quite some time. Let's see how the real race goes!

In last weeks B, i set a really mediocre time which constantly put me at the back of the grid. But i consistenly finished in the top 5 because of staying clear of the chaos and through clean driving.

A flat 1:26 is on the cusp of alien sort of times....what car are you using? I'm 650s this week as I had fun in its big brother last week

Appreciate it! I'm trying my best on a PS4 controller lol. I used the Supra. You had a 1.26.3 in a McLaren right? That's not something to be shy of either.

Just did my first race and it actually was a blast. Started 3rd, sandwiched between 3 a+ drivers. Dropped down to 4th but had an insane three way fight with two other drivers for 4th place. No crashes, no punting, clean space and tight racing.

I don't know how people go so quick in the McLaren - I'm slooooow everywhere in it. Can always go quicker in an NSX, Viper or Vantage than I can in the McLaren. On B this week I've got 1:26.3ish in the NSX but I'm over a second slower in the McLaren.

I've started on pole a few times today (NSX) on B, but a Ferrari or McLAren behind will be alongside in to T1 - I find it best just to let them pass as defending the inside makes you vulnerable to the guy in P10 trying to take the lead.

You aren't driving to its strengths. Short shift it and take more corner turn in speed with it.

The cars you are good at are power cars and they mask some of the nuance. Because they have power.

The McLaren is a medium in, balanced middle and then hit the pedal. It's similar to the supra but it turns better. It doesn't have the out and out late gear speed though.

Seems like everyone has the same problem at Sardinia... Filthy drivers 🤬🔥 I was still searching for a car that suits my driving style and track layout, so I still had only set a 1:26:9 with the 458 and started P13.

Was up to P9 by the end of lap 1 then I caught up P8.... Had a better exit than him at the straight to start lap 2 and he just swerved into me half-way up the straight, spun me, I hit the barrier and got damage and a penalty! Also had the pleasure to watch everyone behind drive past me...

Lap 5 I catch up to a group of cars and overtake 2 of them and the same guy is now ahead in P12, which meant he either got penalized or was served a similar dish he was handing out before.

I overtake him again and he proceeds to ram me THREE times in the first corner after I passed him!! I'm in the gravel and he drives by and I finish in P14 💩🤐

After the race I finally found the car I like for this week (NSX) and the improvement is great 🙂 And I can go faster but that's for tomorrow 🙂

Have nothing to add but. Same.

I've done 3 race C today, two this morning, in the Corvette and the.. I forgot. Came back tonight and did some QT in the '18 GT-R. Bettering my time but finding it a bit tail happy.
Jumped in the M6 and made.it better yet.
I saved my fastest lap if anyone wants to run my ghost, it's tagged with gtp28
It's only a 1:49.685 so nothing special
Having a cup of coffee and a Danish now, then back at racing.
Might jump over to the US for a stint

Managed 2 hours of qualifying for daily B tonight, usually try and race by Wednesday.
NSX seems to work the best for me with a time of 1.26.363 so far.
I was able to run the 650 and the 458 in the mid to high 26s but just don’t get on with the Supra.
I'm sure a ran the WRX here last time it's slow now, may have been on mediums.
