For those of you who think Road Atlanta is just a Mazdafest, check out this lobby:

I didn't win - I got a .5 second penalty on the first lap, and that moved me back to 5th. Ended up finishing second by a half-second.

Yeah. Mazda wasn’t all that was in my lobby either. In fact Jag and 650 top two.
2 Bugs and had a Stang running me down to the finish 😁
The Mazda in front of me got the job done before the finish line.

BTW - nice qt drop again 😉

In 3 races, most of the others had either Mazda or the Jag. The one I had just now, had a bit more variety at least :) Wasn't happy having a Mazda in front and behind me, as I now started in P7 in a lobby full of A+/ A drivers after FINALLY getting back my A-rating! Wasn't easy, but managed a top 5 comfortably and also within reach of the leaders in case they crashed, but they didn't 😝

Still, happy with the result so not complaining! Gnite and good luck folks, until tomorrow's events!

An almost fantastic night at Road Atlanta for me. Try as I might I could not improve my time in my practice session. But I did discover that setting a brake balance was making the Huracan wild to drive entering turn 1. With that bit of info, I think I can get a better time. I did try the McLaren and the F-type but I was way off pace with both. It was only a few laps each, but I'll stick with the Huracan.

Race 1 has me in P4 to start and it was a nice clean affair from everyone. Some bumps, but nothing blatant. Not much happens and I keep it on track to finish P3 with a clean race bonus.

Race 2 put me on pole! And I get an off-track penalty entering turn 2/3 or. So, I drop to P4 after the penalty is served. Now, P3 got into the back of P2 and then I got blamed for it. I got called a Dirty Driver mid race and I was confused. I keep going and get eaten alive by a Mazda in P2 and I knew it was going to happen. Anyway, I manage to get on the grass on the exit of turn 2/3 and spin and finish P9 in the end. I threw away a sure podium finish and the driver who accused me of hitting them spammed "lol" a bunch at me. I send a message of ?????? at them and they claim I dumped them in lap 1 and a check the replay message. I just leave as I know I did nothing wrong. And wouldn’t you know? I was nowhere near them when they got hit. I'm hoping they ate some crow on watching the replay but probably not. Moron.

My final race put me in P4. I focus too much on the radar entering the final chicane and I drive into the gravel to avoid me making chaos. It would have been a huge mess. I fall to P14 after rejoining and just try and finish my race. I also got into the back of P13 trying to force a mistake out of them. Oops, my bad driver. I stay in P14 and end my races for the night.

So yeah, I threw away 2 races tonight. Not the end of the world, but still a bummer. I had some great runs out of corners, but the Mazda is too quick to take advantage. Any other car and I get some passes done. I was also having some major frame rate issues with a bunch of cars in the esses. The angle of the sun in the sky casting light on the track is causing some stuttering issues. It happens when I'm chasing my ghost as well. Anyone else having this issue? Someone might have mentioned it so I apologize if this has been addressed already.

Car and track combo for A race is definitely fun as a TT. 👍

Will need to try it out again as the week goes on because my one race there had me on pole and I basically TT’d the 4 laps in front so not as exciting as Atlanta earlier this evening. Racing there was really fun.

Almost forgot to mention that I left a treat for @GrumpyOldMan on the B race board just to keep those incremental improvements coming along 😁
You’ve got this!

🍻

The Mazda has me really questioning why I still play Group 4. Even if other cars can drive similar times in qualifying, they just pass you in the race because of the insane speed. I think the whole group should be looked at since, on the race occasion that it isn't the Mazda dominating, it's either the Ferrari or the McLaren and nothing else.

The exact same thing happened to me.
So yeah, I threw away 2 races tonight.
Been there, done that. Too much worry about people behind me, and not enough focus on what's in front. I need to drive more like "I've got this - come and get me if you can", rather than "I hate holding people up".

Bastard! Actually, that's one of the things I love about this forum. You're on!

I keep expecting PD to issue an update that nerfs the Mazda, and they keep not doing it. I really shouldn't complain, because I'm getting good times with it, but it drives like a boat.

Managed a race during my break today in another lobby full of A+/ A drivers and went well I think. Only gained 1 position (finished P9) but was clean and non stop close racing with 2 drivers! We all said "cool race" after it ended haha. Already almost 40% progress to A+ after just a few races... 🤞🤞

Anyways, this is my victory from last night 🥳

Good lord it's been tough blowin' the cobwebs out. Been playin' GTSport or, well, not doing much racing at all...no clue what the hell I'm doing in '7 now.🤣

Y'all are gonna be tough to catch but hoping to turn the wick up a bit at 'B' in the Jag. Great track and a fun car to throw around it. I lose, great. I win, great. Somewhere in the middle? Sure, whatevs...the track makes it all worthwhile, IMHO.

Race 'A' is a freakin' blast. Had no idea the old P-car was loaded with VVT (j/k). Was shifting when it hit redline then decided to see how far it would rev...is it just me or does it seem to pull HARDER from 6 - 7K?? Whatever the case, I could run that all day. If I had VR I probably would.😁

See y'all out there!

It seems you have to get to valve bounce or you’ll be slow!

Fun race, but lots of dive bombing at T2 (first right hander) and at bankie boy. Wish we could use an h-pattern shifter (old complaint I know!).

Yesterday my QT was in the 900s and I was only ~5th on the grid B/S lobbies. Usually being top ~2,000 puts me there.

Game on boys ;)

that took me like 45 minutes in this car...
See if I remove you as a friend the none of this ever happened.

People wont even know....

Just give me one week, please! You know how hard I drove the bug round Fuji! Just give me one week ;)

Right you are on! Damn you! Also my trout was lovely. Ate it and had a family dinner watching @TechnoIsLove do a walk around the track.

Edit: I didn't realise he was trying.... 😈

Road Atlanta is another track where I lack consistency. The kinda blind T2-T3 always messes me up. I did a low 1:25 out of nowhere but now I am afraid to join a race because I will probably never be able to repeat that time. :scared::lol:

@TechnoIsLove

It starts now!

Bugger, I can't catch these guys!
On a separate but related note - I just had the most unexpected experience and it was great! If I ask you to think about a car which has amazing handling in complex corners, which car comes to mind first? I bet you $10 that your first thought was not an American car with an 8L, V10 engine! 😂

In my last race, I just could not shake the car behind all race and considering I was in a 650S and he in a Viper, it baffled me! But I have put about 10 laps of testing at Road Atlanta, with default brake balance! OMG what a friggin car! It revs like a mad cow and can take corners even better than the McLaren or Citroen!

My best lap was only a 1:25:8 in qualy practice (which is 0.8s slower than my time in the 650S) but

a) I probably can extract around 0.2s more if I put in the time and more importantly

b) during the race, I don't think the half-second difference over a qualifying lap will actually matter! I think I will give it a go because honestly, the Viper has been the car (to me) I loved driving the most around Road Atlanta!

Give it a go on qualy laps and you will agree! Been such a long time since I was so pleasantly surprised on GT7 😁

Agree with the shifter, but as others have said, using the stick as a sequential doesn’t entirely suck. I find that using it gives my brain a better sense lf connectivity with the car in VR. But im shooting for fun, not speed. Not gonna lie, gently drifting a convertible side by side, one hand on the wheel, the other stick, is pretty dang fun.

..wish Vr would track gestures, and head position even more this week.

The Viper can be surprisingly good. Haven't had much wheel time in it on '7 but thanks for the motivation. I will say that, back in 'Sport when it was all Megane's and Scirocco's plugging up the board at Sardegna, the Viper was more than happy to dull-out some upsets! 😁

Having a frustrating week at Road Atlanta 🫠

Spent 3x the normal amount of QT laps to finally get to grips with the track which is one of my worst non-frictional tracks in GT7. Now at 1:24.873 in the McLaren with Opt at 1:24.5.

(See a few posts down for the video, QT is now at 1:24.772)

Races are where my nightmare begins - did 5 races in total, finished dead last/2nd last in 4 of them. I usually start at mid pack > made an slight error at corner exit > threw myself off track/got passed by a huge row of Mazda 3s/got pushed wide into the grass > spun out. Basically I am just not quick enough in corners to avoid being bullied on the straights.

This was the only race that went well-ish. Had a great clean battle with a Mazda since Lap 3 (04:50) til the last corner of the final lap, where I somehow managed to come out on top to secure my only top 5 this week (so far).

Not sure if I should actually do Race B again at this rate.

I wasn't going to feel bad for you after you pushed me to 3rd place on my friend LB ahead of @Nebuc72 but.... I have to respect your driving, unlike our resident Captain Slow over here (ahem, @newmedia_dev 😂 )

May I ask, since we both drive the 650S, which wheel do you use and what are the in-game settings you have for sensitivity? I usually go for 6/8 but for Atlanta (specifically, just the race) I drop to 4/6 with -2 brake balance as I found the car reacts differently than how it does on qualy laps! Maybe try that?

My achilles heel in races is always turn 1 at the very start because we go in at a much different pace than when doing fast laps and always end up exiting much slower than I should... Other than 1 race (out of 8, which is a miracle) I managed to avoid trouble from behind and get on with it...

Good luck!

We are gonna fall out! I am now employed again so time is my enemy. I ignore Nebuc because nebuc 🤣

Every time you see techno, just edge him wide :)

I'm gonna go do 5 laps and smash your times! Mark my words!

Hey man, nice seeing you on track just now and congrats on the podium!

I am on GT DD PRO and I am at 6 (Torque) and 10 (sensitivity) at 5 BB (rear). I do also find the car behaves quite differently in qual and race hence my total lack of race pace. Let me try out the adjustment you suggested…

OMG - What a race! Was really happy to see @AdxRE start in P3 ahead of me in P5. It has been a really long time to have a friend in the same lobby! The race was amazing, super close racing, some close calls but sportsmanship was in everyone's mind so it was wonderful 😁

Thought I snatched fastest lap at the end but P6 behind me beat my time by a split second, was nice to have my name on the board for an epic total of 0.0007 seconds :D Ended up on the podium with a clean race bonus and a big-ass smile on my face! Spent the last part of the race concentrating hard and managing an eager poo as I was severely slowed down by P2 and had P4 behind me breathing down my neck for 3 minutes straight! 🤪💩

Have a great evening folks!

Just watched the replay, that was such a measured and smooth drive! (Especially with the poo situation 🤣) Wish I could be up there but I ended up stuck behind 2 Mazdas several seconds behind after 2x 0.5 sec penalties and understeering all race.

Lovely sharing the track with you!

Meanwhile I managed to lower my QT by another tenth before I call it a night 😀 Now at 1:24.772 but that is about the best I can do.

Can I do that with my h-pattern Logitech shifter?

Do you guys race something else than GR3 and GR4 cars ? All I see is mostly Race B and a little bit of A, which is terrific this week. I keep switching between A and C, its so refreshing to have a road car in Race C. I'd like to see more of them in race C with tire wear and fuel usage, it would mix up the usual same old race cars. Am I the only one ?

It's not unusual to see a mostly A lobby with a couple of Bs in it. But I've never seen one like this!

1706139162417.png

Nor have I ever seen a finish board like this:

1706139232034.png

Before I saw this lobby, I knew if I did well in this race I'd get promoted to A (which I did), and I was worried where that would place me in the lobbies. I'm not as worried right now. :) Hope that isn't "famous last words".

I am now employed again
AWESOME!!!!!!!

You absolutely kill me in sector 1 😱 And it's interesting that you drop to 2nd gear before heading to the long straight (most of sector 2) as I stay in 3rd... Might have a try tomorrow as bedtime for me :)

Hmm. Not sure. Fanatec here. Its a physical switch on the side turning it into an up/down lever. Its not bad. You get left footed braking and a reason to have one hand on the wheel, which is seeming to improve my perception of the wheel’s feedback and weight while in vr, as i use a univ v2 hub with a 330mm round, for cars with wheels in vr.

Oddly its made right handed drive cars somehow less annoying for me. Which confuses me, but what the heck, ill take it.

More Road Atlanta tonight as I love racing here. I got my quick time down a tenth to a 1:25.322 and that's awesome. I'm in the top 2500 as of this post lol. I'm also slightly ahead of @GrumpyOldMan with my new time.

My first race has me in P3 so my time is still quick enough to start up front. P1 has a bad entry into turns 2/3 and naturally they rejoined directly in front of and I had no where to go. It was enough to lose the top 3 and some momentum. The next lap I get bumped exiting the esses and sends me flying off track on to the grass and then spin after. I had to check the replay to see what happened exactly. Yay.... I finish P14 in the end.

Race 2 has me P4 on the grid. The first lap goes fine, but on lap 2 a driver is so desperate to get by me they force me off track in the esses and that makes me have a bad exit and an off track penalty. I severe that and fall to P7 where I finish. Like yesterday, I had so many good runs exiting corners but the dumb Mazda is too fast to take advantage of. I'm really annoyed at that and it needs a nerf soon.

My last race put me P4 on the grid. Not much happens until the last lap and I gain a spot to P3 along the way. On the last lap, I go a bit too wide on turn 1 and drive on the grass and rejoin in turn 2. Fortunately I don't spin and continue with dirty tires. Which ruin the entire esses section and I go off track on the exit of them, but no penalty. I lose 2 spots and get one back when P5 dumps P4 for no real reason. They got in the back of them and kept going forward and executed a PIT maneuver then took off. So, I finish P5 and that's enough for me.

My lobbies tonight were mainly B rank with a few A rank drivers mixed in. The times were close and it's not like P1 was 2 seconds ahead of everyone else. I might have to do some laps in the Mazda and see how quick I can really go tomorrow. Still a great combo for me and I look forward to more tomorrow.
