GT7 & PSVR2

I have to say that I am amazed at the ease of setup and the stability of the PS VR2 ecosystem. It is so painless to fire everything up even for short sessions.

The fact that we can so easily swap from HMD racing to pancake chores in the menu and then back to racing with the HMD without crashing the system is awesome.

That was impossible with my PCVR setup. If I took my Rift S off even to briefly grab a drink or go to the bathroom, the whole system would be unstable when I put on the HMD again, so any brief break required a complete shutdown and reboot and re-setup of everything (close game, close Steam VR, close Oculus, close Steam, unplug HMD, unplug wheel, reboot, start Oculus, plug in HMD, plug in wheel, start Logitech, start Steam, start Steam VR, start game, pray).

PS VR2 has pretty much eliminated the "chore" aspect of VR.
I've raced many, many hours with my Rift S and iRacing using a Simucube DD wheel and never went thru all the issues you mentioned. Took plenty of breaks to grab food, came right back to my rig, sat down, put on the HMD and went right on racing. You must have had some issues with your PC.

But I do agree with you regarding the simplicity of the PSVR2. It's nice not to have to worry about anything and enjoy true plug and play. I have had some tracking issues with the included controllers requiring me to manually turn them off and then back on to resync.

I would like to hear your feedback once you test the new one!
Hi mate , I have the psvr 2 and I have only played gt7 and here is my honest opinion.
Don't use the crappy ear buds they sound terrible, first 2 days my eyes were fine and not getting hot from the screen but lastnight they did.
None of the reviews on YouTube mention the screen door / mura effect once seen you can't un see it , it makes the picture slightly grainy but I hope I will be able to see past it.
I haven't felt motion sickness using the psvr 2 but I did on the original psvr.
I didnt get the wow factor I was expecting from the psvr 2 , but that may because I have been using a valve index paired with a rtx 4090 and the games I have played are simply stunning that said I was able to play the psvr 2 for over 5hrs with no breaks and the time flew by.
I also turned down the screen brightness down to 70% to stop my eyes from cooking.
Try playing it in a fairly slower car for about 20 mins , then have a rest for your eyes , wear loose clothing and play in a well ventaled room , if you feel your getting to hot , use a fan to blow cold air at you while racing and slowly build up your tolerance levels.
Stay safe and have fun 👍

Ok! Just got mine and did the initial stuff as well as tried a couple of tracks. Initial thoughts:

1) Uhhh wow. My brain doesn't know what to do with whats going on. I couldn't get through one lap of any of the tracks (Grand Valley, Road Atlanta and Nurburgring). Already "recovering" from the first session. Feel out of breath almost. Went to the VR showroom and you want to touch the inside of the car. Seeing my liveries that I've made up close in personal is awe inspiring.

2) Play seated and the system has cut it off a few times asking me to re-scan my room. It takes forever to scan too and I'm not quite sure what it's doing or what it's scanning. Kind of a pain. Does anyone know if you're supposed to scan your wheel and cockpit too?

3) There is definitely a sweet spot with the headset location on your head. The foveated rendering is a little misleading in that I also feel it's more to do with focusing where your head is aimed and not your eyes.

4) The resolution isn't "better" than native 4k. It's straight up not but it doesn't really matter. It's so hard to even describe this. It's like trying to explain the sensation of sex to someone. No amount of words or videos can do it justice you just have to experience it for yourself.

I'm amazed at how some of these guys have seemingly just picked it up and started racing. I thought I'd be able to and couldn't. I was driving the speed limit at Grand Valley and literally pulled the car over at an overlook and put the PB on and took the headset off lol. My brain is like panicking wondering why or how the hell we went from my house to the inside of a car on a California highway. You feel every little dip, drop, rock, etc. I swear it feels like my racing seat is moving.

This thing is just indescribable. I can't imagine what more advanced versions of this are going to feel like. The only thing that stops it from being truly "real" is the hardware limitations. In the future when the headsets and consoles/PCs can render all of this....man.
I bought a few of those motion bands from Wal-Mart and they seemed to make a world of difference. Dont get near the dizziness and no nausea now, but ive only done a few laps but so far i am thrilled at how much they have helped.
I will try the bands! Thank you. It's so hard to adapt. My brain now says "no" even if I want to play flat. Seems it learned to avoid this game. Brain is amazing. Hope to Taunt it.

OK, if you guys want to have a blast in VR, do what I did yesterday with the RA272:

Take this tune https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...our-setups-tips-and-cars.408979/post-13958156

Put on RH tires and and take it out to Mount Panorama in NIGHT mode on Time Trial and run some laps. You'll be seeing stars... literally!!

The one screen capture doesn't show it, but there's a High RPM Turbo on it also (I think I used Medium RPM and lowered the ECU a little more but not sure what difference it makes)

This tune is super responsive and balanced, and the view with the open cockpit on Mount P is fantastic. Looks great at dawn also, especially from the top of the mountain.

The tune was originally done by @specops for the Tokyo event and it's great there too. The key is the extra ballast. I didn't tweak it at all to add more power and see what else it can do, but I definitely plan to experiment with it. The RA272 is quickly becoming one of my favorite cars, especially because of VR.
Nice one cheers. Just did exactly that. 1st time driving it. I just added ballast for now, which defo tames it, but still handles just right side of exciting, before moving into death trap territory:D.

I then wheeled it onto Nordschleife for a couple of laps, with a grin on my face most of the way.

F1 style and open wheels font overly appeal in gt to me, but this thing is a must try! Can see myself taking it out for a spin from time to time, as a way of unwinding from the day, if nothing else.

I've had an amazing time with vr since weds. This thing on Bathurst/Nordschleife and other cars at the 1 hour race at Spa, battling against the dark, wind and rain... plus many other close contenders ... some of the best moments from my 35 odd years gaming career.

I normally avoid the rally races, but this week's Race A in the R5 Turbo is fantastic in VR. Interesting interior to look at and lots of elevation change. I think rally might be easier in VR since you can look into your slides.

Noticed that when my songs change in Spotify there's a big black notification that appears on my screen letting me know which song is now playing. Any way to disable this? Was doing laps at Catalunya (1:43.9 vs 1:41s in pancake) and it was distracting. Also does anyone know if it's safe to use lens cleaner or something like that to clean the glass in the headset?

Was able to do 5 laps around Catalunya and felt fine. Tried Laguna, got to the corkscrew and now taking another break 😆

As frustrating as it could be, racing games are definitively not the best games to begin with VR if you had strong motion sickness issues, and you probably should stop playing GT7 for some time before it becomes too bad. I'd recommend getting your VR legs with some games like Moss, but maybe that some players here have better recommendations?

Id be up for some of that too, playdog7 for anyone who wants to add me

Yo mate, I'll send you an invite! ^^

papiculo_64 for those who want to add me!

Rally is just 10 times more fun in VR than on TV! 😎 And this R5 turbo's cockpit looks sick! The blue and red colors of the dashboard and seats is inversed depending if you buy the blue or red version of the car, and both look amazing, so I'd recommend buying both if you can 😁

I noticed it easily on the Porsche Carrera RS from 1995. The CLUBSPORT edition. It has a cut down interior with lots of weight saving, so the seats are simple skinny racing seats. They shake a lot on 2D mode
I tested and saw the same effect in the 2D mode. The same thing happens in VR mode as well, I tried to capture it but it's a bit hard to notice in the video since it also captured my head movement, even when I'm trying to keep still.

Nothing to do with it, but the car you was looking for in a previous post was the Corolla Levin 👍

I setup my VR again, including redoing the height measurement and manually setting it to 182cm (it had detected at about 176 or so).

It's hard to be 100% sure whether that's related or whether I'm just getting used to it, but the sense of scale since then has improved a bit.

There's still something that maybe doesn't quite feel right but I'd say the driver in game now just seems more like a short and skinny guy, as opposed to a 7 year old child!

Have had so much fun, I followed another recommendation and set up a big 70s trans am style grid, i didn't realise you could load any saved grids / race settings on any track, that's been great fun.

Have done easily 1000 miles in VR already, really enjoying it, having a fan on helps a lot in terms of not getting too warm with the wheel and VR etc.

VR Showroom:

Sat in the Tundra and Raptor. Good vehicles to see over some roadside barriers.

Drove the Honda 2&4, in a mixed grid of 20 cars, at DTG. Waiting for the lights to go out at the start and heading towards T1, with the mountains ahead... breathtaking.

VR is good for grinding. I can set a limit with Spa and La Sarthe, with then doing one of the 10 lap WTC700 races or a couple short Custom Races. Thatgives some time to get in and have a break. no mortion sickness, but it is a bit taxing on the eyes. I'm old. :sly:

Still, I did a couple races sans VR, so I can snap some quick race pics. It's quite boring. I needs the visuals of seeing a fat TT Cup car from the rear, as I'm passing it and looking at the driver.

Edit5: oh, yeah. Also sat in the GT-R LM NISMO. Looks cool from inside and out. Totally lackluster in pancake viewing.

Thanks. Yeah, I was surprised to learn that was the Levin's interior. I've driven it a bit in-game, but had never really looked at the cockpit view before. Looks fantastic in VR.
Totally agree 👍
It looks totally different and way better in VR.
Didn't try it yet in GT7 but I loved it in GT sport!

How can you do that? Didn't find this option yet but it seems interesting!

As for the scale it varies depending on the car. In cars while small interiors like the group C cars, your hands tend to seem bigger than in real life, when in most other cars they look very small!

I don't know anything about numbers as it relates to FOV. I only know that my experience has been indescribably AMAZING!

I'm a little disappointed with content creators who unequivocally and intentionally misled their viewers.

Only A F T E R the presales were collected and the unit launched, did Kireth release a video entitled "Why the PSVr2 is blurry..."

Prior to launch, not a single mention of the fact that, what you see on your screen while watching their content, isn't a real replication of what they see in their headsets.

If someone did indeed mention it and I missed it, apologies in advance but I watched a lot of videos which helped influence my decision to purchase and I don't remember anybody mentioning it.

This is what happens when influencers get FREE product. They always come with loose, and sometimes strict, guidelines on what they can and cannot say.

I still love it and I'm hooked to the point that I can't race any other way now. I have never owned a VR headset before so I don't know if that great feeling will dissipate but it's how I feel right now.

There are several smart members in this forum who have done an AMAZING job of educating us on VR and racing games as well as VR in general.

Those are the people I trust.

Untrue. I was the only person I'm aware of on YouTube to actually let people know about this.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but for taller people who need to adjust the seating position at every race.
Instead of crouching + hold options buttons, simply crouch while the game transition to VR at the beginning of each race and your are all set, no need to use the controller. Very useful to not have to pause the game when racing online.

Initial runs on Race B lead me to believe that VR will ultimately be faster than pancake. You just see more. Certain turns there I can now clearly see vs before where I'm kinda guessing the exit. Im also getting way less penalties like someone else said.

Going to take me some time to get used to but there is no going back. It's a totally different game.

On a funnier side note that no one's mentioned....I hate the new VR Headset smell. Not sure what it is about it it just kinda smells weird.

Yo Kireth! Nice to see you here!

I have a very small YT channel but made a video on the subject that made over 15K views prior to release, and I was stating this:
"Even if it won't look as neat and sharp as on a 4K television, the loss of definition due to the proximity of the screen will be easily outweight by the depth perception brought by stereoscopic 3D."

I actually think that most Youtubers and other contents creators used to VR spoke about it at least once or twice, they just won't do it in every single video. In terms of scale, playing in VR is like playing less than 50cm in front of a 60 inches TV. You can have the same resolution, the definition won't look the sane at all.

Some disappointed VR newcomers who never heard about it would blame contents creators, without even knowing that they mentionned it many times, and that it's not a problem of the PSVR2 or GT7, but something you have in any other VR headset and games, at different levels.

Looking forward to watching this later. I would be happy to retract my statement if you indeed warned of the blurry image. I have always enjoyed your style.

My recollection was that you only mentioned the motion sickness. Playing online now and using discord on my phone so I can't watch it now.

I'm just not enjoying this as much as I could be in vr, The only senses I pick up is a Queezy Stomach now and again :) , No butterflies in my stomach etc and playing other games that have given me senses, It kinda feels flat, most likely the physics aren't good enough but correct me if i'm wrong.

Omg the smell made me more nauseous day one playing! I cleaned it with some Lysol asap!

Today I played for about an hour and had no symptoms! The experience is so good, and one thing I’m appreciating more are the race cars! The interiors of the race cars are so cool, you can’t compare what you see on the TV vs VR they look so much more engaging. I want to be able to race for at least two hours straight in VR then I will be very happy.

I just got my ps5 and so everything smells and the controllers too when not using psvr2

Kinda the downside to plastic…and its made with the same chemicals that was in the train derailment in ohio

Just douse some castrol gtx and petrol inside it. Adds to the realism ;)

Kireth, I have never been happier to say that you WERE NOT one of the content creators who hid the inferior image quality.

Not only did you cover it but you said it directly and clearly in the first 2 minutes of that video. I had not seen that video and I'm surprised I didn't because I like your content.

Thank you for coming here and correcting that.

I AM SORRY I MADE THAT MISTAKE

Keep up the great work

Yes, Kireth channel is the one I watch the most. Particularly found daily race entries each week extremely useful, as a newbie to online racing.

Wet races. The rain drops look great. However, the drying line is not as pronounced as non -VR. Plus, looking at the rear view mirror, the surface rendering looks more saturated than the forward view of the surface. I miss the well defined drying line. Other than that, when I’m driving the GT4 Supra, it’s so cozy in the cabin.
