I'm on level 13 now, I've got a two car garage with a Sabre GT and a white Futo in it and I've got about $50k in the bank, but I'm pretty sure next time I log in my progress will be gone because that's what happened before...
So far I'm quite impressed. Ok, so it's a bit grindy and boring if you're not with friends, but when you get a few people who aren't annoying together it's good fun. I've found a place to get a helicopter and a plane (by the way, Fort Zancudo is pretty much empty even if you can get inside), too.
Earlier on I had a message saying that a player had grabbed a high priority car for Simeon. I knew that to get to the drop-off he'd have to cross a bridge, so I got a truck with a trailer and parked it across said bridge in anticipation of his arrival, I was in cover by a wall just next to the truck. Sure enough he (plus passenger) arrived, I killed them both (the passenger got out and tried to beat me to death! My shotgun said 'no'), took the car then had to evade the two of them and the police. One of them went into passive mode and tried to ram me, but that didn't really work in his favour because you can shoot passive players if they're in cars. Anyway, so I delivered it and got $15,000. They put a $7,000 bounty out on me but no one could collect it before I got an infinite downloading screen.
Now I'm scared to turn my console off...

I had an intense, and I mean INTENSE game of golf online earlier. There were at least 5 lead changes. Everyone had their mics on, making for a very fun and brutal game of golf. In the end there was a three-way tie for 1st.
The in-game sports were fun offline, but they are absolutely incredibly and addicting online.
Once online goes back up I'm trying out tennis.

Started GTA V and pushed X to go online immediatly. So far so good as I return online where I ended last night. Did the remaining beginner jobs. But then I tried to join crewmembers. Session timed out and I was "advised" (no other choice) to return to the offline mode. The game froze completely. PS button and exit game. Started GTA V up again in story mode. Once loaded I pushed down on the D-pad to choose my online character again and it was gone... Quit the game again, restarted it again on online mode and I'm back at the beginning of the online mode, making character etc. 45 min passed, I'm going to story mode now...

I just turned GTA on and went straight into online with no issues.. I always let it go into offline mode first then pause the game and move along to online and then solo play, until I can find people to do missions etc with.

Well i just lost my character

Ok so I wrecked the RH8, didn't care too much for it if I can get it all free but I found a new car, had to respray due to police and I went for a nice red colour.
I drove it to my garage and it said I had to replace a car to put it in there, I obviously chose the RH8. Now the car is in there, but it's for some reason black? I stole it silver, and painted it red. Now it's black?

Same here. Spent all last night making money online only to come bakc and find nothing... i was on level 8, breaking close to 9

Yeah... I've lost my second character now. I'm gonna go ahead and wait until maybe Saturday before touching Online.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried about. I can't tell if seeing the 'create a character' screen means your cloud saves will be inaccessible even if you press circle at that point. Can anyone confirm for sure that they had a save, then tried to access it but was asked to start a new character, pressed circle immediately and was able to access their original character later on? I probably should've asked before I got to level 13, but I got hooked. My day was supposed to be: check to see if my GTA Online character came back (she didn't because I made a new one last night when I thought it wasn't going to save), work, eat, work, eat, play the BF4 beta. In reality, it was: Check GTA Online, play GTA Online, get kicked off GTA Online by inadequate servers, eat, whinge at GTP.
Edit: Oh. Those posts between this and the one I quoted don't exactly fill me with confidence!

TheKittenGuys dont worry you still have your first character. Its stored on Rockstar Cloud. Now its down.👍
I really hope so... i don't want to do the tutorial again. I wouldn't mind i didn't have to do that again.

Yup this is the typical routine for any game having online issues. Shortly after 3:00 PM EST is when servers start having issues. Then around 9:00 PM EST is when servers usually pick up again. Been like this for MANY MANY years. I remember doing this exact same thing with TDU2 and Defiance. Once 3:00 EST hit, servers started going down. Then as it reached 9:00 EST servers would be back up again.
Weekend could be a disaster since everyone will be on. Hopefully we will get lucky but its either going to be really bad this weekend or maybe they will have the problems worked out. Don't get your hopes up.

Happened to me when cloud was down. Just dont create a new character. When cloud is back up. You'll have your character back.

👍 most middle schools end at 2:00ish and kids (like me) get home at 3:00ish. Sorry guys, my generation is a bunch gamers.

I can't stand it when people argue that Rockstar couldn't have prepared for a high amount of people. We all knew millions of people would buy GTA V, the pre-order figures alone were crazy. We all knew that the game made over a billion dollars on release day, and to top it off Rockstar had two weeks between GTA V and Online to make sure their game and servers were in check; alas, no.
But maybe I'm being too harsh. I'm just very annoyed about me losing my progress. *shrug*

Had this happen 2 times now, bought a tattoo, after doing a job during the cut scene my tattoo is missing, when it puts me back into free roam my tattoo is gone. 10k wasted on tattoos I could have drawn on for $10 with a sharpie
👎 Not going to bother customizing my character for a while. (I couldn't even if I wanted too as right now cloud is down)

You have every right to be harsh and annoyed. I also don't see how Rockstar had extra time to prep for this only to not be prepared at all in reality. Although... *takes a deep breath*... it is just a game i suppose. Still sucks though.

I just found something interesting. I see a few people here have lost progress - if not there whole character - I find that killing yourself will save your progress. I usually kill myself by jumping in-front a car, let it save, then quit (or whatever). You can also save by doing missions/races etc. but the problem is if it hangs/freezes, you're screwed. **Look for the orange saving circle!
EDIT: This cannot be done in single deathmatch (with 2 people in free roam), only normal kills!
Also, I find that main story missions are VERY buggy - especially Simeons (never work for me) - I've only got to do (can't remember his name) the guy with the drugs. With that said, stay away from main missions for the time being.
Another finding, if you start a group mission, STAY WITH IT! Whenever I leave the group, it's hard for me to get back into other missions when in free roam.
One more; the last session I had, I loaded online and it asked me if I wanted to update my character! Anyone who wasn't satisfied with the look of their character, you'll have one (It said only chance on the screen) chance to do it later on.

I suppose they didn't have 'extra time', they just had a fair bit of time. But I probably don't understand what goes into making servers that can hold millions of players so I shouldn't complain.
