Ok.. I re-watched the entire race. Now I am going to post from a cooler place.

First off, I would like to say, I DO NOT consider bumping racing. I understand if it is in the last few laps, and BOTH people have shown solid car control. What I don't get is why people are blocking and dive-bombing in the early and mid portions of the race.

Maybe I am alone on this (I really don't think I am though) if someone is coming up and clearly running faster than you, why not leave a little room. I came up on a few people, running about 2 seconds a lap faster than them, and I patiently waited for a good, CLEAN place to pass. I start to make the pass, with a lot more momentum exiting the turn, and they blatantly swerve in front of me. I patiently wait again, make a clean pass, get by, I am about 6 car lengths ahead going into the next corner, and they dive bomb me. WTF.

Seriously, this kind of stuff in the beginning and middle stages of the race is ridiculous. If I am going 2 seconds a lap faster, we are on lap 4, do you really think it is faster for either of us, when one person is constantly running their line based on their rear view mirror. All of this in 10th place?

I see this happening with multiple people in the back and middle of the race. Seriously, watch the top guys, they race soo clean. Watch how Stig and I pass eachother. Not one touch. It is slow for everyone when one person starts blatantly blocking and banging.

There was one person who held me up from lap 2 to 7. They hit me about 8 or 9 times, when I was being extremely considerate and giving them plenty of room. I watched them for 2 laps later in the race, and watched them punt 2 people completely. There was clearly no space or line for the pass. No setup, just blatant punt.

Rant Done for now-

If you read all of this, to you

As one of the people who got into going into turn one, late in the race, I can say it was 100% accident, caused by me braking too late on bad tires (I even tried to let off before my brake zone, but alas,). I let you take the position back right after, too.

Personally, I don't mind a bit of bumping, as long as there's no slamming. I can't say I slammed into anyone intentionally.

I know there's a lot of names flying around and blaming people for incidents, etc. But I would just like to say that unfortunately we're playing a video game and incidents are going to happen. Could be as simple as one person's connection not being 100% compatible with another person's connection that could cause accidental contact.

Also, if you know someone is around you, just keep an eye on where they are at and give them plenty of room if they decide to pass. There's no reason why you can't get that position back later in the race if it turns out you have a better car.

Everyone just needs to relax. If someone is bumping into you, give them some space and try to pass them later. It's not worth getting heated over.

What happens though if you pass them after and they keep bumping you trying to spin you out?

Nobody should be "trying" to spin anyone out. That sounds to me like someone that is just trying to make a pass and is being unsuccessful. If that happened to me I would let them by no questions. Chances are you'll pass them up in the pits or they'll make a mistake and you'll get the spot back. If that doesn't happen, well then they probably had a better car than you.

Mule, I have no problem with your racing. Everyone makes mistakes. I don't feel like that incident with you was malicious at all. It was a brief moment in a race, that really didn't affect either of our races. No worries my friend.

I believe I might brake a little bit earlier than some others on that turn, but usually gain a healthy speed margin exiting that turn.

And, btw, I was in no way calling you out in my rant above. I just don't want to say specific names. I sent a pm to the person I struggled with the most.

Yeah, I didn't think so. Was just clearing that up anyway, though.

New to GT Planet but I've been playing the GTs since 1998.

I was curious about this series so I built an ISF RM to spec and got a 1:52.344 on Grand Valley within 3 laps. I know I'm too late for this race but I'd like to try out for next week's.

Glad you posted man. Sorry for the late reply, got caught up in organizing today's race.

I'll get you reg'd up once you give me your car color and number.

And it seems like you'll be right on the ball with your pace, gotta love that 👍

Okay, this guy will be good. ;x

----------------------------------------------------------

On an unrelated note, I'm thinking of started a thread just to gauge interest in a potential Integra series. If I go through with the series, it wont be until after Spec Miata II, but it's good to know who's interested.

Some tracks I was thinking of were High Speed Ring, Daytona Road course, Suzuka, Le Sarthe, then maybe Laguna Seca or Nurburgring 24h.

Should I go for it?

Let me give you a hint...
I would definitely go for an Integra series!!

I just wanted to update my rant above.

I had a very good pm conversation with the person I had the majority of the incidences with. He was very mature, and we both talked about our perspectives on the situation. I feel much better about this person and the series in general. Everyone I have had personal conversations with in this series, I have really liked.

This is really a great series for me. I think it is an opportunity to make some long term racing friends, and learn a lot about the GT5 game. I would much rather leave here with friends and knowledge, than multiple podium finishes. Thanks to everyone who has shared info, and taken time out of their game to help and understand others.

And special thank you to Wardez for running this series and Mule for being nice enough to hold qualifying races for those of us that wouldn't have been able to make the normal time.

But, I still believe a lot of us can still do a bit better job about picking our battles on the track. There are some good quotes I read in a book titled "Going Faster!, Mastering the Art of Race Driving." Quoting page 164 "Knowing when not to race - having the discipline to give up the chase of the moment for a chance of a higher finishing position later in the race - is the mark of a smart, seasoned racer." This was in relation to getting into unneccessary battles, consequently going slower, and letting the leaders get away. There was another example that I cannot find the quote right now. It was talking about how much time will be saved by just letting the faster driver get by. No point in wasting a second or two a lap to drive defensively, when you can just let the person by and then stay on the racing line.

I would love a FF racing series. Especially on a 24h track where it is night time. Like say a 15 lap race on Nurburgring or on Le Sarthe (a race long enough where you HAVE to make a pit stop) with smaller cars. You will need to really pick just the right kind of gearbox ratios to go as fast as you can on the straights and accelerate just as fast on the turns. As well as the downforce on the straights, no downforce go faster on the straights but slower on the turns and vice versa.

I would love for there to be a longer endurance race series which require more pit stops (at least 2) but I'm sure many will not be able to attend due to their real life getting in the way. But if anyone is interested in making an endurance race, I would gladly assist in setting it up but cannot help run it because I have other things in my life that need more attention.

Okay, so now that all of the incidents (I think) have been solved, I think we should move on and focus on the next race. It'll be interesting to see how these cars handle the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca.

I was actually thinking of having a race, probably as Le Sarthe, where it starts at say, 3:00 PM in the game, and set the time progression so that by the time the race is finished (it'll be around the same distance as the other races, if not a bit longer), it'll be 3:00 PM again.

But I think I'll go ahead and make the thread, so we can discuss it there.

here it is

Oh god, why did you have to switch to me right as I spun!!!!:scared::dopey:

edit: after watching bits and pieces of that I realized how much fun I actually had rather than being angry and frustrated over bumps and bruises.

On a separate note, corkscrew with the suspensions setup I have will NOT work :P I tried getting one dialed in last night after we finished but definitely no revelations yet :)

Could have been worse. The moons gravitational pull could have been pulling you, and someone else car together for almost 3 straight laps, and Wardez could have captured it all.

:(

Lol he caught the tail end of me, red, and fred on the straight after being glued together for the first 4 laps.

Thanks for the video Wardez. Gotta say, the fight between me and Mule made good TV, lol, although me and him were really pissed off at each other made it fun to watch. I think me and him have the biggest rivalry in this series.

After I was pushed off on the track at 33:53, you did a weird zoom in and out thing with the camera that made me laugh because during the race at that moment I was jumping me my chair saying "CMON CAR!!!"

Also Wardez, or anyone, can you share your setup with me because if you saw in the replay my front tires were being eaten a lot faster then my rear tires! I just want a setup where they wear out evenly. Once my front tires got to about 20% my rear were still at 80% so for parts of the race i actually purposely started to drift to keep up with the people in front of me. It helps that I'm on a drift team, helps when your trying to keep your car from spinning out but keeps your speed up.

Thats because you are a: smart, seasoned racer!

Great to see you in the series Stig! We haven't raced together since before round 3.

I watched the replay and was definitely feeling for you when I saw how much of your tires(lack there of) were left around lap 15. Were you trying to finish the entire race with no pit stops. Just planning on using the Stig skills to bring the Lexus home on just the rims?

As far as setup, Wardez posted a decent one earlier in the thread for the last race. I used something very similar to his tune for that race. As for the "corkscrew," I asssume you mean some of the tight, banked corners. I have much better luck on those kind of turns by picking a spot on the outside of the track, and trying to exit under power aiming at that one spot. Just trusting the banking to keep me on the track. But, yeah, there are a couple on that track that will spin you around in a heart beat if you have the wheel turned in too much under acceleration.

Video's up.
Holy ADHD Batman! Your frantic camera switching almost certainly gave me a mental complex. Although I noticed that when you actually did stop on someone for more than 5 seconds that your buddy Alien got most of the airtime. I know it's probably pretty difficult to judge who you should watch when, so it was pretty good overall... just don't jump around so much next time. 👍

I didn't really have any great moments for the highlight reel, but you still managed to catch BOTH of my spins that eventually caused me to give up. My wheel really acted up and I eventually had to unplug it and try to use the controller (which clearly I cannot deal with). I'm sure all of you remember passing me a few times as I attempted to scoot around for a few laps before just giving up completely and parking it in the sand so I could eat dinner. :dopey:

I do appreciate that when you switched to me about halfway into the race as I was picking my spot in the sand you at least stayed there and used me as a camera man until a couple people passed. I see you liked the view I chose as I had dinner. :D

I got super confused when your notification popped up that Jav went offline as I thought to myself "wait a second, was he AT that race?" Then a few seconds later you switched to him and I thought; "holy crap how is he still racing if his connection dropped?" It took me a few moments to realize that he went offline as you were watching the replay. :dunce:

For god sake turn off the music! I think it was at the 30 minute mark that I wanted to shove sharpened pencils into my ears because it would have felt better than that horrid noise. I don't know how you recorded the audio, but it wasn't good enough to hear the music clearly. Even if it was clear, music gets in the way of hearing engines roaring around the track.

At the end there, you JUST missed me doing donuts in pit lane. I don't know how it happened, but I glitched into the pit right at the end of the race and I was not stripped of control over the car. So I drove around through there trying to hit the pit crews and doing donuts. I don't know if it happened because I was sliding backwards out of control when I entered the pits or of it was because the race end timer was counting down... but the tire/fuel window popped up and then disappeared and I was able to drive freely. 💡

Yeaaaa with My setup I knew my best lap would come on lap 6 or 7 of a new set of tires sooo I was trying to last until those would be my last 2 laps. Backfired like CRAZY but then again made enough mistakes early on that I was out of the running anyway.

For the record the last 2 laps I ran on just rims I got 2:10's

I'm actually already tuning for Laguna Seca already so I mean the actual corkscrew :) I have to learn how to use the banking alot better regardless...was one of the factors that kept me outside of "the fast guys" in round 3.

Qualifying changes updated! Please read:

3 Lap Live Exhibition Qualifying
Procedure: When the qualifying room is ready we will let two chosen drivers go out one at a time (to give eachother room) with a 20 second gap from the start of the qualifying session.
All the other people in the room will be watching the driver(s) to make sure their laps are clean.
The room will be set to a 4 lap race. Only laps 2 and 3 will count as qualifying "flying lap" times.
Their fastest lap will set their qualification.

Friday qualification will be floating format. You can qualify any time of that day by requesting a steward to observe.
We will set a time as usual but drivers qualifying on Friday can also, at any time, be observed by an approved race steward to set their qualifying time. Again, you can qualify at any time on Fridays as long as you PM or other-wise message a race steward to observe your laps. Requesting to be qualified can be simply done by messaging a steward. The steward will then set up a room for you to join with all the correct reg's and settings. You will do a race of 4 laps where laps 2 and 3 count as your official qualifying laps.

Saturday will also be floating format yet with a deadline.
The deadline will be at the end of the scheduled qualifying session set on Saturday. No more qualifying can be submitted after the official live qualifying session is ended.

If you look at the race schedule you will see that the qualifying room for last minute quali. will be open from 6pm EST to 8pm EST.
That will mean there is an 8pm EST qualifying cut off deadline.
There will only be a 5 minute grace period for registered drivers coming in at the last second. After that, absolutely no more entrants may be accepted.

It's set up to be flexible to give the option to people with different schedules to qualify whenever they can yet the deadline is imposed so that if you do have time you can practice till the last minute to set your best time.

And here's the new point standings:

Brosif set the fastest lap last race @ 1:50.710. Craaazy Taxi. So he gets an extra point. He's getting higher and higher finishing positions.

Mule's consistency has really put him up there. Rt's looking good recovering from the last race he missed. Lots of 24's, they're ranked by highest finishing position.

I'll need to finish in the top three next race to stay up there. Nethereal's calmly climbing up the ladder, if he keeps finishing strongly he'll definitely be a big top five presence in the points. Graham didn't finish 85% of the race distance so he's squared away with no points.

Laguna should mix things up nicely

He was offering free soda and novocain to anyone who replied within the time frame he determined. I was gonna post but I couldn't log in to GTP with my phone at the time - just missed it.
