Did a small test session in my lounge tonight before I shut the system off. Mostly just messed with gearing, and although it's easier to drive now I haven't seemed to do much to it other than make it slower than when I first got in there. Managed to get down to the 1:24.6xx range, but then with the better gearing I was always about half a second off. Might just switch it back...

I miiiight hop in for a second in like thirty minutes. I have to see my work's time schedule before I know if I have to leave an hour early or not.

Here's the final qualifying rules btw:

2 Lap Live Exhibition Qualifying

Our qualifying procedure is simple. We have two days of qualifying before the race on Sunday for a full weekend GP. This is in order to give all the drivers interested in racing lotts of time to set their fastest laps in a controlled environment.
Procedure: A steward will open an official qualifying room.
When the qualifying room is ready to start a session we will let one or two (depending on room size) chosen drivers go out one at a time (to give eachother room). When the qualifying session begins on track, one driver will be chosen to start their out lap first and the second driver will be told to hold on the line for 20 seconds until they can start.

All other visitors in the room will be watching the driver(s) to make sure their laps are clean.
The room will be set to a 4 lap race. Only laps 2 and 3 will count as qualifying "flying lap" times.
The driver's fastest lap will set their qualification.

Friday qualification will be floating format. You can qualify any time of that day by requesting a steward to observe your run.
We will set a group time as usual but drivers qualifying on Friday can also, at any time, be observed by an approved race steward to set their qualifying time. Again, you can qualify at any time on Fridays as long as you PM or other-wise message a race steward to observe your laps. Requesting to be qualified can be simply done by messaging a steward. The steward will then set up a room for you to join with all the correct reg's and settings. You will do a race of 4 laps where laps 2 and 3 count as your official qualifying laps.

Saturday will also be floating format yet with a deadline.
The deadline will be at the end of the scheduled qualifying session set on Saturday. No more qualifying can be submitted after the official live qualifying session is ended.

If you look at the race schedule you will see that the qualifying room for last minute quali. will be open from 6pm EST to 8pm EST.
That will mean there is an 8pm EST qualifying cut off deadline. Any drivers that make it into the room before 8pm EST will get qualified.
So if you join the room and there's still people qualifying at 8:00 you will be allowed to run after the deadline since all you're required to do is be in the room before the specified time.
There will only be a 5 minute grace period for registered drivers coming in at the last second. After that, absolutely no more entrants may be accepted.

It's set up to be flexible to give the option to people with different schedules to qualify whenever they can yet the deadline is imposed so that if you do have time you can practice till the last minute to set your best time.

Any racing steward can note the time and post the official ranking in the thread.

Look in this thread [post #3] to find your position after your run.

So can a driver make as many qualifying attempts as he or she may like?

Oh and I have to jet, time for dinner with the GF. I think it's an anniversary or something.

P.S. High 23s are possible for sure.

I'm going to qualify tomorrow, as I have a busy day on Saturday and don't know if I'll be around when qualifying starts.

Well. I'm running the deadline qualifying room in WSGTC so I'll set up a practice room in Laguna after we get all the times tabulated after the top of the hour hits 👍

Final final quali. rules:

But Wardez!!!! What if I want an Indy style qualifying where I can wave off my quali run and reattempt later because I think I can go faster??? I want, I want, I need, I need!!!!

No I am kidding one run is cool with me. :P

'cause I like to wave off my bad laps in practice by crashing into a mountain. It doesn't work well in quali.

Indy's so weird :)

Wardez..

Wanted to get a clarification from you. The first page says pit stop required.. But I thought I have heard you say before, that you can go the whole distance if you want.

Since this track could theoretically be run with no pit stop, I am asking for clarification.

Thanks man,

Rees

Dude there's no way! ...I'd like to see that actually, try running 30 laps @ Laguna without stopping and stay withing 2 seconds of your best time. I don't think it'll happen.

I said it before as a passing joke, a pit stop is required, even if just on the last lap, if it were possible.

EDIT:

I just ran ten laps and that's where the tires seem to be really dropping off.

btw my tune's a freaking dream here for some reason. I love it, absolutely perfectly neutral. It even behaves nicely in the dirt, rally time? wtf I think so!

Only thing that's bad is missing your braking points, 'cause when you do man... that sucks.

Not sure what happened, but I can't get below a 1:25 flat now. Not fast enough for all out speed, so hopefully it's a better setup in the long run for the race.

2nd ever lap on the track with this car and I got a 1:27.1.

This seems promising.

Now you're just playing head games! I'm not buying it dude. :P

I haven't gone to run the track in online mode yet. Just saw that I had a 90 lap endurance race to run in A-spec at Laguna, so I figured I would get my Laguna practice in that way. Went for a 35 lap stint just to see, I was able to still run 1:28's at the end of that run. I don't know if the tires burn up faster online, but I was going mellow to see if I could make them last the whole run.

Maybe its driving style, but I thought this was the easiest course to conserve tires. The other two locations I ran in the series, I burned up the tires pretty fast. In fact, I went for two pit stops in the last race. But, I maybe going overboard, trying to conserve. My fastest laps at Laguna during that run were only low 1:26's. Need to adjust my style for the qualifying if I want to get into the 1:25's or 1:24's.

Physics and tire wear are very different online. My tires start to really give up after about 10-12 laps.

Well, I ran 30 laps in online mode to see the difference. I must say the tires feel like they have less grip. I spun out 4 times in the first 5 laps just getting used to the difference.(unfortunately this probably skewed my results as this provided considerable wear to the tires.)

But even with this feeling of less grip, my lap times were very similar. But, with the spinouts by lap 30 I was running low '29's, vs the mid '28's I was running in A-spec. I think without the spinouts, it would be quite reasonable to run the whole race without a pitstop. Would it be the fastest strategy? Not sure, would have to run it both ways.

Even though it is all moot, as we are stopping in the pits, I thought I would test it out anyways.

I did run a couple of laps to see how fast I could go without the tire wear agenda. On laps 6,7,8 with tire wear off I ran 24'6, 24'5, 24'6. All of these laps had small mistakes. RT, you are usually faster than me... So either, you ran your timed laps with tire wear on, or you should definitely be able to at least get back to your 24'6 times.

I haven't practiced yet, you guys are talking about pretty close and fast times, hope I will be able to stay within the gap of 1:25 to 1:27.

I may join in Sunday if there's any spots left. I have to buy a new car since I gave my original one to Graham so I won't even bother with qualifying I'll just start at the back. I'll will post my new colors later since I don't think I have another paint chip the color that I originally used.
