Has anyone experimented with the tires? I know they have "offroad" tires and I have those on my offroad vehicles. But are they really better? Or do they just look like they would be better?

Rockstar got back to me for the 4WD issue. All they said was to....email someone else.

So I sent that one out, let's see what happens.

I've notice the same thing you mentioned about this. I wanted to add that checking to see if a car is 4x4 can be difficult. like you said the rear tires spin first, but I've found a few cars that I thought at first were 2 wheel drive, but when power was added I was able to spin the front tires. Maybe a better way of checking would be to shoot the front tires out.

But yeah I agree the drivetrain isn't locking like I would want it to.

You can find out right away as soon as you take the vehicle onto an incline if it is truly 4x4 or AWD. Or you can even drive over a rock and try to get the vehicle stuck on the rock. At that point the front tires will start spinning if it is truly a 4x4 or AWD. You can also back up real fast then slam the gas forward. Sometimes the front tires will spin even on the concrete and leave black marks.

Some may seem 4WD, but not 100% of the time. Like the Canis Mesa when you are off roading seems 4WD but if it loses traction just the back wheels spin. It's weird, like they have a 10% / 90% Front/Rear split or something. With no load the fronts may spin, but under hard load (climbing) the backs lose traction first.

I found that if I am climbing in the Off Road Mesa and it starts to lose rear traction, if I feather the throttle out ever so gently it will regain traction and sometimes start climbing.

I noticed that too. Some will spin the back like crazy under full throttle and very little up front. As you said 10/90 But if you feather it, the front regains traction again. I doubt this will ever be updated but its fun to experiment with.

Just climbed up and over Mt Chiliad with my Dundready Landstalker - for a stock (except for off-road wheels + tires) vehicle and an inexperienced driver, that's not too shabby...

The Evoque (Baller) with off-road tires is amazing on the trails. It has one of the best 4WD systems in the game, IMO.

I like that SUV. However, I think the Gresley is more better than the Baller.

I've noticed this too. If I can't go any further, and start spinning, I'll go part throttle, the vehicle will roll back a little, but then you'll hear the engine die down, as if it was a straight drive, and the clutch is letting out. When it does that, you can lay in to it, and it'll be pulling as good as it gets. I've seen this work for several different vehicles, and you can really get into some tough places, at a fairly slow, and controlled speed.

That was a lot harder to get to, than it looks, but using the technique above, I was able to ease it up there.

Regarding the "4WD issue," I stole a Karin Rebel to see if I'd like to add it to my online garage, and I was surprised by how much it struggled on a steep climb. Going back up the same trail in my Sultan RS was effortless! I think the tire model is as much of an issue as the 4WD not working quite right -- it seems anything with good grip on pavement has good grip everywhere, and vice versa.

I'll have to try my Sultan on one of the more difficult trails you guys have marked.

The Sultan is hard to beat offroad. That thing is a beast. But I guess its classified more as a rally car. The Karin Rebel is pretty good if you put some engine mods into it.

Thanks to Kitten's posted video, all the friends in my lobby last night picked up these for their garage.

Little off roading at night after robbing an armored truck for $20,000!!! I like how the upper and lower rollbar lights work.

I really want one online. I havn't seen the "Titan" mission yet, anyone know when it shows up?

It may be because some 4x4 ones that should be 4wd are only like rear-wheel drive in the game. That's why even the Sandking XL sucked at trails, sand and even river crossing.

So umm, guys... Who wants to meet up now for offroading? Add me on psn, i'll leave a few spots open on my friends list.

This is what you call off road. :sly:
