That's part of why it's cool. It's an attention grabber.
This is an attention grabber:

It's not cool.

But to everyone who don't know about the factory options, a Mustang is a Mustang is a Mustang. Like comparing different trim levels of a 90s Civic.
I suppose that's a good point. Makes sense.

The Boss 302 might be a good engine but I looked it up. Apparently there is good reasons why the Boss 302 is quite known...the Trans-AM compettion...the ATC..(Yesh, teh Australian Touring Cars...that, I enver knew and that's bloody great.)

And was some sort of the special version only for the '69 and '70 versions, '69 Because my favourite mustang of all time. And ofcourse they brougyht in back in our recent years but hoenstly, tehy look meh compared to the old Boss. They're unbeatable.
And what's even funny, the original Boss 302 was desgined by a former GM Motors guy. Now that's interesting.

Now I know what I'm gonan vote if the Boss 302 comes to the Cool Wall.

The double standard being shown by Slash as he explains why engine codes and body modifications as attention grabbers makes this a cool cat makes me want to change my vote to uncool.

I'm with this guy. Otherwise, it's just a slightly faster fastback with some styling cues.

What really sucks is when people dress their base ones up like a Mach 1.
It's not like the Mach 1 itself was unobtainium. You could theoretically option up a Sportsroof so it was pretty much the same as a Mach 1; and Ford/dealers undoubtedly loved that a graphics/aero package was all it took to get people to buy Mustangs that were much better equipped than a stripper 6 cylinder and likely pushed them as hard as they could.

It's a wildly popular car and with good reason. Probably why it keeps getting nominated.

It's a wildly popular car within one portion of the globe. That it has double the amount of Cool Wall threads as the next-most common nameplate, typically nominated by people who either have it in their name or are self-professed fanatics, to the point they need to swing in and try to White Knight the car against anybody who dare not approve - typically, the exact same way said White Knight(s) have no problems casually dismissing cars without "Mustang" in the name - makes the car less cool, not more.

Every Mustang thread provides a great example of the average Mustang fan/owner.

Not to mention the times that someone has tried to nominate a model of Mustang that's already been nominated.

Very popular car in North America. And as there seems to be a lot of American members, it's not surprising that lots of Mustangs have been polled.

VW Golf is a popular car in Europe. Thus far there have been more Mustangs of the same generation polled than VW Golfs in total.

Mini is very popular car in Britain and there are many members from Britain. But for some reason these haven't been polled yet.
Austin Seven, Morris Mini Minor, Austin Mini, Morris Mini, Austin Mini Cooper, Morris Mini Cooper, Austin Mini Cooper S, Morris Mini Cooper S, Austin Mini Countryman, Morris Mini Traveller...

In fact Toyota Camry is much more popular car in North America than Ford Mustang is, yet there are 10 times as many Mustangs polled than the Camry.

Camry? This is a board for car enthusiasts. Nobody gets into cars over the Toyota Camry. At least pick something that an enthusiast might like. The Golf somewhat works, but something like a Celica or MX-5 makes a more apt comparison.

The Mustang is one of the very oldest, most popular, and longest running attainable enthusiast cars. We're on an enthusiast board so it's small wonder why it would have a lot of fans here.

That said, the amount of Mustangs we poll from 1964-1970 is way too high.

Are you suggesting that car enthusiasts aren't supposed to like the Camry? I have never seen such prejudice in my life. Camrys are cars too.

You're getting into W&N territory here.

If someone's enthusiastic about the Camry, that makes them no less of a car enthusiast than someone else being enthusiastic about a Mustang, an MX-5 or the Daihatsu Midget. I don't see why it would even be unlikely for a "true enthusiast" to like the Camry.

I'd like to bet there was some sarcasm in Zenith's post.

The Camry is a good car; does everything it has to, no frills, no fuss. It's just a ridiculously uncool one too.

This is true and untrue to some extent.

While car show people tend to be nice and friendly, they are almost always major car enthusiast. Enthusiast of anything aren't cool because no one likes someone who's into any way to much.

Well I'm into cars and pretty well liked :sly:

You're missing the point entirely. Car guys can like their Camry but by and large people don't think their Camry is super cool or needs to be polled on the wall. I drive a Corolla, like it, and consider myself a car enthusiast. I have zero inclination to have a 2003 Corolla put on the cool wall, and I don't think for a second that it's a cool car.

The Mustang is an affordable fast car built for performance and appeals to car enthusiasts that's been built for over 50 years. The Camry is a family sedan. It's not W&N territory to call a spade a spade, he didn't say people who drive Camries aren't and can't be car enthusiasts, he said car guys generally care more about Mustangs than Camries.

It's silly to use the difference between the number of Camries and Mustangs sold vs polled as an indictment of Mustang fans. There's plenty of reasons why the Mustang fanbase can be considered uncool, we don't need to make comparisons between completely different types of cars to illustrate that.
