For the drifting we have a part time drift school, and if anything that should be the drifting forum's role.

Fixed that for you, punctuation is fun 👍. And seeing as we might have mentioned drifting once in this 200+ post thread, I think we're fine.

3 pages were made while I was asleep.

So on this start up series thing. Kinda confusing to me, I don't really get the whole rar thing. But this start-up kit sounds like a good idea.

You know, all this is really interesting because it is really similar to how iRacing works... And it works well!

Obviously, there are the licenses that are a great way to avoid unfair matches. Then, the special color for rookies (By the way why not selecting a specific color for EACH license? Just saying), the penalty system in which you can lose your current license to a lower level and not being able to compete in some series... All this is used by iRacing to provide clean races and according to my (large enough) online racing experience in both games, I would say this thread is a big deal!

I read in the thread that creating a common point system would be an idea. I say, push that forward and create a common database for everyone who is racing and get everyone a rating (some of you may see what's coming) and at the end of the year, or each 6 months, or something like that, the idea would be to regroup the highest ranked players for a Race of Champions, like the Pro/WC license of iRacing! The winner of that RoC would then be introduced in the special thread GTP Hall of Fame...

Sorry if I went too far in my ideas, and also came from no where, but this was just my two cents.

Oh and if you are looking for instructors for the racing, count me in!

I personally wouldn't be a fan of specific colors for anything but rookies because I happen to be a huge fan of variety, but I can see where it would have its benefits.

As for the RoC thing, that is more or less what I have been envisioning with this Board of Directors thing to begin with.

You are right, I actually did not express myself as I wanted. I meant having someting visible that indicates what division you are... But it's impossible in GT5, having the choice to change color only on the body or the wheels.

How about helmet and suits? There's the trainee suit, and you could always tell someone the specific colour there helmet has to be.

You can't exactly see that very well.
If we use the license system, newbies shouldn't be much of a problem.

Sounds like a little much, since it will only be seen if they win.

You could always see the helmet in premium cars and most standards. Just saying. (Through the window)

Helmets should be up to the driver but using a common 'rookie' suit should be a mandatory thing. Plus, the licenses should have a picture of the driver so a pic with the 'rookie' suit on it for new guys would work.

I think the suit/helmet thing is going a bit far.

👍 As gatrs said, that would be overlapping on the license idea.

To be able to tell that they're using a certain helmet/suit, you'd really have to look for it. It's a good idea in theory, but in execution, it may not work.

Orange car. Simple and easy 👍

I liked that one when it was suggested earlier, but I think if you don't have specific car colors for each license, it wouldn't work. I think the licenses will suffice. Should we just let Wardez explain his idea when he can and move on to the next idea?

I suppose so.
Wardez, I'm not gonna let you forget. :P

The next item was a Unified Points System.
This would allow us to have leaderboards that rank people based on how many points they've scored total.

The downside is that people that want to use the points system from the real life version of their series will no longer be able to.
Multi class racing may also complicate things.

This would also be relatively difficult to keep track of.
Or would it?
We could simply update the leader board at the end of each season.

We need to find a system that will work no matter how many people are in the room. Should we use my formula and some rounding?

The orange wasn't for licenses per se, it was more of a courtesy thing for people who haven't raced before, ie- Rookies. But. I'm game for anything.

Why would a unified points system hurt anything?
Let the series do points however they please, but have them keep track of positions. At the end of said series you could do something like that math formula that was suggested before. I would explain this more but I am slightly under the influence and it may come out a mess. Tomorrow I'll elaborate.

Like a running average of finishing positions in championships? That's very easy to keep up with.

Yes it is.
But if we have the different series levels, and if there are few people racing, that might change that a bit.

Can you maybe try to think up another formula?

EDIT: Added something else to the list. Will explain it when we get to it.

Got another thought, what about grading tracks? Like Grade 1 tracks are good for F1 (F10, F2007, FGT) and LMPs whilst say a Grade 5 track would only be good for something like Spec Miatas (no offence R1600, just needed an example of low class racing)?

Yeah, like making a 4th place finish in a Pro series weigh more than the same 4th place in a Beginner series? Easy 👍 Guess I'm the Board's math guy

Very nice Mitch 👍.

Will add that to the OP.

I'm thinking we should use all the tracks too, grade every single one of them so that there's a list available for series organizers to go through and find ones suitable for their series. Plus, I'd love to run on some of the original tracks in the ALMS :sly:

Haha did you tell me what you wanted me to think up? Just a general idea is all I need. And you should probably add giving out positions to the OP.

I was just writing a pretty lengthy post about what it should include; but I thought that it's not exactly a points system, just a leader board.
So we can talk about coming up with a leaderboard another time, but not now.

So should we come up with a points system?
I have seen a couple series that have relatively useless points systems.
So if we don't come up with one unified one, perhaps we should have to approve them.
