I just want to thank all the GTP_Registered members who thought it would be helpful to ruin the qualifier by running it online and thus allowing all potential new members to work out what time is needed to get into a certain division.

Thank you very much. :grumpy: 👎

EDIT:

Specific Qualifier Rules:
  • Do not run this qualifier whilst Online. Any submitted time appearing on the Online Leaderboard will be rejected.

Anyone waiting to be assigned a division placement and have ignored this very clear instruction will not be placed into a division.

It's also a shame because if a top-division driver decided to just have a half-hearted attempt and did a handful of laps and has got a visible time on the online leaderboard, it could cause other new qualifiers to think "Oh I'm pretty close to him, he's D1/2/3/4/5 so I'll just leave it there", when giving it even more attempts might have brought about more improvement. The mental "I can't go any faster than this/him" block can actually hinder improvement.

To be honest I might personally have been affected by this as well, but that's my own fault for even bothering to judge my time by the performance of others. Still, I stand by my submission and I am really happy with the lap, there's an extra tenth in it, but I am satisfied I gave it my best shot.

All the best
Maz

I have run that Time Trial online Sphinx but that wasn't my qualifier submission, so is that aimed at everyone from GTP who has an online ranking or just specific people?

That's a bummer. I read that instruction too. I thought I was offline. :(

Can these people not read or what? So idiotic.

Yeah, it's not hard - go to your Network Settings on the PS3's XMB and choose to disable the Internet Connection. Then run the qualifier!

C'mon Sphinx, a simple yes or no will suffice... Am I affected by this because I have a time on the board, even though that is not the time I have submitted for the qualifier? I understand you're annoyed but it doesn't say anywhere in the rules that you're not allowed to have any time on the leaderboard.

C'mon VagabondAngel, give the man a chance to respond!

:nervous: I would've thought 15 hours was sufficient to craft a yes or no answer, presuming of course that Sphinx doesn't sleep :dopey:

:)

Had I known that I would've had to account for every scenario / technical loophole, then I would've got a team of lawyers to draft the qualifier for me.

Your feeble attempt to highlight a loophole in my instructions reminds me of the time I grounded my son for a week and told him not to set one foot outside the door, he therefore climbed out of the window instead and proudly highlighted to me the fatal flaw in my instructions. He was of course grounded for a further week.

I'm simply gobsmacked by the lack of thought of some here.

I never replied to you earlier because I'm still deciding what to do. To be honest, I have a good mind to scrap this qualifier and start a new one.

Kids are just priceless   ;)

I would suggest people to read this.......it helped me out no end ;)

I agree, did the already registered members not even think about how this would affect the new quali? :ouch:

I think a new qualifier is in need mate, perhaps give them the full track to run this time. :) 👍

My son got me too - he set two feet outside the door by hopping over the door jam - oddly enough he ended up with an extended punishment too. :sly:

D'you know what, it doesn't bloody matter. I joined here to enjoy online racing, not be treated like a damned child because the rules don't specifically state something or other.

I've run a fansite and forum for the ElderScrolls series Sphinx, so I know the work involved in organising and the mither of responding to endless questions and complaints but I think you've lost sight of why you're doing it when you can be so rude without cause.

Since joining here I have attempted to be humorous and friendly in the forum and courteous in my online racing so I feel your crap attitude is slightly undeserved and I certainly am not going to put up with it.

If you want to be anally retentive about lap times for qualifiers, fine but allow me to think it a slight overreaction. Everyone running the qualifier is going to try their best anyway aren't they, regardless of what times are already on the leaderboard. And if it is that much of a problem, state in the rules that no GTP tag bearer can show any time at all on the leaderboard.

I've gone from eager and excited to join a division to angry and disillusioned about the point. And the Sphinx fanclub bandwagon jumpers just compound the problem...

"Ooo yes, what an idiot. I'd never do something like that."

Its up to you what you do now Sphinx. Ban me for being honest, rewrite the rules, run another qualifier... I know I don't wish to be a part of it if this is the kind of attitude that will be prevalent. We're not at school and I don't remember many people being that spontaneously rude when I was.

EDIT: removed my comment. Not getting involved! If it needs to be redone then so be it :)

:dunce: As soon as I saw the game updating records I got this horrible feeling in my gut.:ill: No excuses, I messed up, . :guilty: not by ignoring the rules, but by failing to check my online status. Sorry Sphinx.

I made a simple mistake, not checking my online status, i dont think i deserve to be called an idiot for this :grumpy:

It always asks you if you want to sign in when you load up GT5:P anyway, just choose "no" if you are doing this qualifier. That's what I did. Sphinx, it's your decision, you're in charge.

It doesn't ask me if I want to sign in when I load up GT5:P - that depends on your settings, I guess.

Also SteveO1965, I don't think anyone has called you or anyone else an idiot.

It depends on your settings when you start up your PS3. Some many have it on 'Auto Sign-in' which logs you online as soon you start it up.

There are three ways that times could end up on the public list:
1) Player understood the rules, but forgot to log out for at least one session.
2) Player did not read/understand the rules.
3) Player knew the rules, and intentionally broke them.

Reason #1 is understandable, if regrettable.
Reason #2 is less forgivable.
Reason #3 is contemptible.

Most of the public times are probably due to Reason #1. But regardless of the reason, it leaves us in a quandary.

On a lighter note ...

I have a litle story about someone that falls into category 2, but the "less forgivable" is to blame on me.

My eleven year old son desperately wants to be a part of GTP community, but his knowledge of the english language - so far - makes him more or less unable to post here.

However, he can race, and does it fairly (not very fast yet, but he'll get better I'm sure). So I told hime that he could start by:
1st. Complete on his own all events, including the "S" ones. He did.
2nd. Open an account here. He did, never posted yet.
3rd. Create a 2nd PSN account, with the GTP tag. He did.
4th. Run the qualifier (i told him the car, track, to run it in PRO settings, the "two wheels on track" and all other driving rules and, finally, to save the best lap when he felt it was good enough for him). He did.

And then ... last Sunday, just before lunch, he tells me (in portuguese of course, this is a rough translation): "Father, I did the qualifier and don't think I can't get any better, can you help me submit my time? btw, I forgot to use the GTP account, is that a problem?"

"Of course it is, I told you, you'll have to run it again with your GTP acount! Anyway, are you sure you did your best?"

"Yep, my name even shows up in the leaderboard, you see, I'm not that bad afterall"

"WHAT?!?! Oh, hell ..." (and he was right, among the instructions I gave him about what to do and don't do, the "not to be done while online" rule slipped) :ouch:

1) Player understood the rules, but forgot to log out for at least one session.

That's the baby.... but since I had already submitted my qualifier time and was merely messing around, I assumed it wouldn't be a problem.

I don't think it really warrants all this fuss and certainly doesn't warrant Sphinx's withering and patronising sarcasm. I assume being a race admin places you above the need for common courtesy.

Common courtesy would be to keep the integrity of the series. It is now ruined, I understand honest misktakes and all that but there is a reason times are held secret.

Ruined how? My god this is melodramatic... the time shown on the leaderboard is not the one I submitted for the qualifier, so how has the secret slipped?

Thankfully I am rapidly losing interest. Sphinx you were rude, plain and simple. I expected maybe a retraction if not an apology. It would seem however that your fanclub will continue to browbeat me for an honest mistake.

Fun this aint it?

I don't think the issue here is your mistake.

I think it's the fact that you continue to defend your position and come across as though you did nothing wrong.

It's been a long standing policy of the WRS to keep the qualifier times confidential. This is so that drivers are placed in divisions according to their ability, rather than having sandbagging occur, or having drivers push for a time they would not normally be able to achieve.

The integrity of the qualifier and therefore the series becomes an issue when people fail to follow rules or instructions, and then behave as though they've done nothing wrong when it's brought to their attention.

Now I can understand that you might have become frustrated with how this was approached, but when you publicly display such disregard for the rules that several have worked so hard to create and enforce, what kind of reaction do you expect?

And don't take this as "one more of the fanclub" brow beating you. I am first and foremost a loyal participant and advocate of the WRS. This has nothing to do with one race admin or another, but rather the community, and the standard we've created and expect to uphold.

It looks like to me :grumpy:

I said it was idiotic, I didn't say the people that did it were idiots. I addressed the action taken, not the people doing it.

For those who have already submitted a time and have yet to be placed into a division, will have their lap times honoured.

Hi. Do you mean that those of us that have submitted a time need not run the new qualifier?
