Is a high or low ping good. Just did a test and these are my results.

Ping: 135ms
DL: 2.13
UL: 0.13

Thanks for the link Chris.
Lower is better. Like Christophe said, its no guarantee of lag-free racing but is a good indication. Yours there may give you a little lag now and then in a full room. How has your online experience been so far in terms of lag?

That's quite a huge ping you got there.
Good ping is around 30-50. The lower, the better. I have around 23-24ms ping when doing the test.
Ping is expressed in miliseconds (ms)

Thanks Chris for the response. As far as online play, I haven't experienced any lag at all so far. Like I said in my edit, I'm running a wired connection now with a NAT 1 connection. The only real problem I've ran into is being able to get in a room, but once in, things seem to run fine. Any optimal router settings advice you may have would be appreciated also, if you think it would help. I think I have my PS3 set with the UPnP disabled and in DMZ mode if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Did the test again.

@GTP_CargoRatt Mitch, You may just have selected an unresponsive server with your test so that ping response may or may not be valid. I know it's not foolproof but an indicator of the quality of service you can expect can be obtained by using the traceroute command.

Get a Dos command prompt (run Command.exe on a windows machine)
Enter "tracert www.playstation.com" ( without the quotes)

It'll track up to 30 hops so just let it run and see how many hops you have to make and what the response time is for each hop (low is good, high is bad). Not sure you can do anything with the results however but at least you'll have an idea what's happening.

AND the biggest gotcha of course is that I doubt www.playstation.com is co-located with the game server :( I have never tried to get this but if you know how to read firewall logs you might be able to get an IP address and if you do then run the tracert again only swap the Hostname for the IP address.

tracert xx.xx.xx.xx

I've used the above on many occasions when going to battle with my ISP about poor service :)

Alright Mike, will give your advice a try later today. Thanks again for taking time to reply, appreciate it.

When I'm viewing an online replay race of other cars, they behave very jumpy and its hard to analyse what other cars are doing, but in the race I don't notice it. I presume this is a GT issue & not a connection one?

I've seen people with very slow internet being able to play online. e.g. 0.7Mbps Down/0.3Mbps upload speed
Like Vagabond mentioned, it all depends how good your communication is with the nearest GT6/PD server.
Unfortunatly there's no way of testing that. Doing the test at Speedtest.net gives you an indication but theres no known locations (at least not that I know of) of where PD has their server installed.

Its less about your actual download/upload speed than your ping rate ie the speed your PS3 can talk to your nearest server and get a response. I have a pretty slow internet speed (~2.5Mb on a good day) but my ping is good (~40ms) and I can race online pretty well with no lag the majority of the time.

Do a speed test here: http://www.speedtest.net/

Thanks for the answers guys, My internet download speed is actually much much slower than that Speedy  ,I can handle 3-4 players but don't think I can handle anymore, Thanks anyway for the answers gents.

Div2 Bronze. Down an expected amount from GT5. Still make it tough on myself to win the Division ;).

Also, somebody is going to ask, so it might as well be me; should we expect event 1 soon for a long week, or will things start on Sunday with the old cycle?

A slight drop from GT5 but I'm not too surprised seeing as I knowingly left time out there, and the Willow combo was very much an unknown quantity.

Division 1 is still pretty good whatever form that comes in, even if I did only scrape in.

Second place? You suck. ;)

Honestly, congratulations on D1G, like there was ever any doubt.
Haha, it's hard to tell how fast you're going when you don't know the times, so I didn't know whether I was slightly off or had a significant lead! Thanks :)

EDIT: @EDK are you allowed to tell us which driver was fastest on each track?

Firstly, outstanding job by the admins for processing so quickly and for a great qualifier 👍

Secondly, I'm over the moon to have exceeded my handicap target. I was targetting D2G but aiming for a 2.2 handicap or thereabouts. Thrilled to be in the 2.0 range - lowest I got down to in GT5 was 2.346. This looks like trouble

"GTP_Gravitron" / "Gravitron" / USA (2.037) (Verified)
"GTP_CarlosF" / "Carlos Fandango" / UK (2.042) (Verified)
"GTP_Eternal" / "Cats_PJs" / USA (2.066) (Verified)

Looking forward to some great battles guys.

Shouts to James, Jon and Wes for sub 1.0 handicaps, and to the rest of my friends for great performances across all the divisions. Now all I need to do is consistently perform at that level!

I'm pleasantly supprised to see I'm still in Div3 :) I went from Silver to Bronze, but having done no WRS at all in GT5, I was expecting to be in Div4 this time around.

Looking forward to the start of WRS 👍

I'm very pleasantly surprised with D2 Gold, after nearly 3 years of not playing GT at all and getting used to a wheel for the first time :embarrassed:

I look forward to this, seems like I'm not far from @EDK which I was aiming for and lots of other close competitors in the whole division :mischievous:

Thankyou to all the WRS Admins for sorting out those submissions incredibly quickly, couldn't ask for a better team 👍

Just read through the registry, why does it all say verified? Surely with the new system they're all verified?

Also, bear in mind that D5 has gone, everyone, the placements mean slightly different things to before.

D2 Silver :). I reached my goal to improve from D3 in GT5.

Almost made D2 gold, I think Willow might of kept me from the Gold :indiff:.

Looks like Lefty and I are as close as ever, just like GT5. Good job Lefty!!

I'll have my work cut out for me to reach the podium in D2, lots of fast guys. Some familiar names, lots of new ones also.

Hope everyone accomplished their goal.

Can't wait to get started on the first TT.

Thanks again to all the Admins for their hard work. 👍

EDK
Right, understand. And also understand that it would be interesting for everyone to see.

One of the advantages of this 2 lap system with a handicap (and not laptimes) shown, is that it makes it more difficult for people to "reverse engineer" the divisional cutoffs. For that reason, we will not be sharing an analysis of each separate combo.

I will say that we have been watching and analyzing submissions as they have come through. And that in general, the ranked order of each individual lap compares reasonably to the overall ranking. There are some outliers, for sure, but that was part of the point of choosing such drastically different combos. Some people perform markedly better on one over the other. (And that "other" is NOT consistently the same). It might be that their placement is still not precisely correct, but it IS better than it would have been if we only had one combo or the other.
