You guys are killing me - its 8am here and I'm not gonna get any seat time for another 15 hours

Contented with my evenings efforts, I may go to bed now as it's 11pm :P

My moneys on Chuk this week after seeing that T1 split - Last MR week you annihilated me I seem to remember as well.

chukabilly
I'm mooing as loud as I can, and still no tractor beam!!!
Hey Plato!! :cheers: Don't worry about the moaning and complaining because those of us who are married are used to it...{Yes Dear? What's that I'm writing? Nothing Dear!! No NO! Don't read that, I didn't mean you! :ouch:}

I hereby apologize to anyone I may have offended by insinuating that their significant other may in any way be predisposed to moaning and/or complaining. My wife, the sweetest, most loving person I've ever had the fortune to meet, did not make me write this.

Anyone got an aspirin?

Racing On! {Very, very quietly!}
I would give you a thumbs up but it seems I can't from my phone. Great post. 27.7xx T1, I don't know where you guys are getting that speed? I'm getting faster each session but that seems unreachable to me right now. Oh well, we will see what I can do tonight when they open the course back back up for hot lapping.

:) That's funny, Sid! 👍
I am running with all aids off except ABS on 1 and brakes at 6/4. I tried both active steering and higher brakes, but I just like the feel of the car as it is now.

I'll be making my charge this weekend..... girlfriend is going to be out of town so mega chair time saturday afternoon. :-)

[Not Recommended for the Faint of Heart]

If there is a combo that I really want to achieve my best with, I have a particular approach I use that works really well for me.
The only comp I've used this approach to the fullest extent is the GT Academy Time Trials, particularly the one at the start of 2010.

The basic idea is that all I try to do in each session is improve as compared to my last session. I try to drive for sessions of about 1 hour, but if that means I drive for 20 minutes and improve by 0.5, then can't find the pace again, I'm happy and move on.

The key is this - Once I get closer to my limit, I might be an hour in before I'm even hitting the last time I ran. But even then, if I need to run for 2 hours, I run for 2 hours. If that means 2 hours and I improve by 0.001, I've still improved, I'm happy, and I move on.

I believe a good portion of these sorts of competitions is psychological. If you improve every time you run it's easier to believe you can improve.

If you set the bar too high, it's easy to get disappointed. Just compare to yourself and work to improve, and you'll be surprised to learn your limit is much different than you expected it to be.

Exactly, Kevin! Thanks. Words of experience everyone should, and/or does compete by.

And my "talent wall" as I referred to is only for that moment.

Improvement of the slightest in every combo is a delight, as I stress my limits, most of the time, right up to the weekly deadline, as I'm sure Fetchbot can attest to. :)

Do the best you can and move on, as you alluded to.

At my age, :grumpy:, there is no bar set as all scenarios are explored, since the joy of being able to compete is my reward in itself. ;)

Late to the party....could be considered crashing it  I got a decent lap, then saw I was over a second behind the leaders at T1 and then found Zoky's (Active Steering 'Strong' and BB 7/3) tips  The car handles drastically different with that active steering, but it sure exits corners faster.

Here's my first 30 min session:

27.872 (seen a couple .70xs)
33.699

Overall, this was one of those laps where nothing felt right (active steering?), but the splits said otherwise *shrugs* numbers don't lie. Wifey says it's movie night  c'mon weekend, where you at?!

I found 7/0 to be the best setting for me now. I have no idea about tuning or why and so just do things by feel. Why would 0 on the back brakes make the car very stable and nice to drive?

Not sure, but so long as you don't make the car oversteer, that easy drift could just suit your driving style?

Because on corner entry all you're doing is dragging the back along. If you run with a higher rear brake bias, then as soon as you apply lock the rear brake bias affects the yaw of the car. The inside rear wheel slows and causes the car to 'pivot' about that point (it's not at that point, but it helps with visualising the phenomenon). With rear BB on zero it has 'zero' contribution to yaw so I would imagine you can be quite aggressive with trail braking.

Real life stability control systems work in exactly the same way i.e.
- by braking an inside rear wheel to help you around a bend if you're understeering (the algorithm calculates too low a yaw angle in relation to steering lock and vehicle speed).
- by braking an outside rear wheel to help you around a bend if you're oversteering (the algorithm calculates too high a yaw angle in relation to steering lock and vehicle speed).

If this car had an adjustable LSD, you'd increase the decel/brake value to give the same stabilising effect that you're realising from rear BB at zero.

Remember with the Golf last week we were all running high rear brake bias to try and create as much rotation as possible as that car, as most FF cars, had inherrent understeer.

EDIT: for those running AS, I would expect that you would need a slightly higher rear BB than without AS to bring back the 'urgent' turn in of the Lotus (high yaw rate). Of course the AS will still have benefits apex-exit

Just my $0.02. Hope it makes sense

My latest splits;

T1: 27.664
T2: 33.586

I was disappointed with them until I had a glance at the leaderboard and saw they will put me third! :D
I have been .1 up in T1, .05 up in T2 and .2 up in T3 so my lap is still .35 off what I could theoretically do with this combo... :) Whether of not I can find that perfect lap and drop the .35 is another story entirely!
BB: 9/7, ABS: 1, AS: Strong

Xerxes. :)

Only a small improvement. I'm finding this combo quite a challange and loving it.
The new seat with a new driving position has also thrown me a little this week but finally getting use to it.

T1: 28.462
T2: 34.236

First splits.

T1: 28.212
T2: 33.965

Some impressive times from D3, AGAIN. Looks like I've got some catching up to do, AGAIN. Can see some more time that could be shaved off so bring on the weekend.

Stunning times at the top of the board too.

Pyxen, I am quite impressed with any race car driver or motorcycle rider that is the fastest in their respective sport. I

Pyxen, sorry if you think I am coming at you unfairly. I think when the word lame starts getting thrown around about our currently allowed rules... people might get the idea that you don't appreciate the series and what the series organizers do for us.

I'm competitive by nature. The NASCAR was a beast, so maybe a little AS was required, but a Lotus 111R? Come on..... all people are doing now is trying to use whatever tricks PD put in the game to make themselves a little bit faster. You're right though, the aliens will certainly remain aliens, and the slow guys (like myself) will stay slow, regardless of how 'pure' the competition is.

I too found the Lotus 'neutered' using AS. I turn it off within 5 laps each time I decide to give it another try..

Please don't assume I don't appreciate everything the WRS admins do - this is a fantastic program, and I am absolutely loving every minute of it..my reaction is more out of not wanting that to fade away.

Millross - more power to ya, man.

More new ones for me tonight. Starting to get the hang of the second sector. And BTW, the Magnetic Blue one is fastest now. :sly:

28.167
34.040

I'm falling quickly, suppose I better run some more laps :) - just remember, AS on or off, make sure it's fun, for what is racing without true driver/machine bliss? -- FYI - Everyone knows British cars are faster the closer the color is to british racing green ;)

Another run in didnt hardly improve splits though. 27.737 - 33.564 - 1:01.301 - ABS 2 - 9/4 - Im sure I could learn the weirdness of AS, And gain some time, but I can't take turns the way I want, and Im stubborn :) - EDIT: New fastest color is baby blue.

Same as you with AS CSL, it feels so weird with AS on and not sure it suits my driving style. I spent about an hour with it today and it just doesn't feel like I'm controlling the car, with that, I just cannot use it, feels odd. I can't stop myself from responding with inputs to movements the AS is controlling.

T1: 28.766
T2: 34.814

Knocked off approximately .1 overall, specifically in turns 9 and 11, and bested my previous bested T3. :)

Oh, and my color car of the hour, Bordeaux Red Metallic. :D

Hey look the old codger is air born :grumpy:

Not my normal style but what the hell, if this is what I need to make my goal this week. 👍
