Don't tempt me. Do not... :sly: - I'd want to do it properly if I got a wheel though, would have to be a frame and seat because office chair + desk simply doesn't cut it for me personally. And then the cost is a bit too much to be able to justify (nevermind the lack of space issue >_>).

I am using an old bathroom sink cabinet, and a dining room chair. The immersion is so much better than with the pad. And, honestly, while racing, I don't notice how my setup looks. I spent about 30 minutes putting it together(and $0 dollars) and I can't imagine a fancier setup making me any faster.

Not to knock anything about the fancier setups. I have thought about it for the immersion factor. I just can't justify it to myself, as my spare room is already filled with other interests(Rock Band instruments, real guitars, scuba gear, volleyball setups, golf clubs, etc..) I need to slow down.. lol.

Yes mole seeing aderrrm in real life racing would be great to see, see if anyone can beat him out there that is , speaking of real racing arent you going to Mx5s soon which go to scotland (knockhill) :sly:

I'll edit in my setup for laughs. :sly:

I agree, I use an old PC desktop, at least I think that's what it was.

Anything comfortable to sit in with the wheel and pedals somewhere you can reach comfortably, is good, and works well.
That doesn't mean I'm not hoping for the long shot of getting that RSeat though.:sly:

There's also foldaway wheel stands, for about $100USD, that probably work nicely for someone wanting a nicer-looking alternative to a $3-500 rig.

Makes me wonder sometimes why people spend big amounts of money on a wheel, frame, maybe multiple screens, all of that business, when you could be out on the track irl for that amount of money. Each to their own I guess. Personally would love to see Adam and others on the track irl, have usually found that those who are good on GT are great irl.

I see your point but i can tell you one of many reasons. Danger. Real life racing is dangerous. Sim racing is not half as good as the real thing, but it gives you the opportunity to satisfy your racing needs whenever and however you want to without you having to put your health under risk.

Besides that, there is also the financial part. But its a very long story and i'm too lazy to analyze it.

Can't afford it yet Paul, could do 3/4 of the season but don't see the point in that - maybe the year after if I can find the last bit of cash, it's definitely something I want to do.

For GT5, I used to use an office desk and chair with a G25 because I needed it to get anywhere near the top GT Academy times (the first GT Academy - stupid Nissan Z on Comfort Softs on Eiger Whateveritscalled). It was quicker and worked ok, but didn't feel very natural, seating position was all wrong. So I'd want a frame or something to get the seating position right if I had a wheel in the future I think.

..Can't wait to see Paul's setup, this should be good.. :D :dopey:

I hadn't thought of the danger aspect, it's something you don't realise until you think about it. I've never been involved in a serious accident (thankfully - I know of friends who have.. though generally the sport is quite safe) but you make a very good point. The moment I do, maybe sim racing will become the more attractive option :sly:

I'll explain a little.

I am a single parent with custody. So my money and time is pretty much eaten up. I have to home for the boys. So if I am home and can race. Well it only makes sense to do it right if you will.

As well many people "read older" have back problems and other ailments that prevent them from enjoying real racing.

So the SIM racing provides a lot of what they desire from real racing. With out any of the negative that prevents them from doing so.

If not for this. I'd be in a real car of sorts racing. Hopefully one day my success level through the shop will be at the point I can afford to race as well kids grown time will be much more abundant.

Till then it's racing from my living room.

Also did I mention you can't race in winter time in Indiana. To cold and snow. I got one buddy that races with a wheel and rig in the winter months. Races for real summer months.

FWIW I do drag race. I can use my street car and have a load of legal fun. Kicked around a track day or some auto x. Time and money factor in again.

The danger part doesn't bother me, but the financial bit is crippling for most people. Myself obviously included.

In fact, I first turned my love of cars to GT for this very reason, that I simply can't afford them, let alone competing in motorsport where I have to find the dimes to replace whatever got broken in yesterday's race.

I'll take a picture of mine too
Been meaning to for a while now anyway.:)

Edit: BTW, you're a lucky guy, being able to live the dream all of us have, so 👍 for getting out there and doing it.

Just to get back about the rigs...

Here's my current setup: Cost $0 thanks to my uncle's workshop. The steering wheel
swivels and is adjustable vertically. Seat adjustable horizontally. Buttkicker in the back :)

Pro: Driving position is very comfortable. Similar to F1 driving position.
Con: My TV is on a stand which make me look up. I like driving real low with my eyes just
above the steering wheel (in real life).

My old setup with a lawn/camping chair.

CSLACR, do you know how I can switch to gt500?
Sorry, I'm new here.

Send me a PM.

Would be interesting to see your setup. I still remember that early pic of your rig. Would be interesting to see everyone's rig. :)

haha i love the color combination Paul! I can't possibly imagine how you race with your monitor that high!?

You are mistaking the actual danger that statistically exists in the world of racing with the fear of racing.

By saying you don't bother the danger part, you mean you are not afraid of racing. But even if you're afraid or not, the odds of getting hurt while racing remain the same. No reasonable man doesn't bother getting hurt. It is about how everyone weighs this danger that make them differ.

Here's my awsome ironing board setup :P, It's great got room either side for drinks snacks ect :dopey: lol and it's ajustable as well 👍

Right, that's what I meant. Probably a translation thing, np.

I understand the chances are there, but I'm more of a "it won't happen to me" kind of guy. So it doesn't bother me.
This is why bad wrecks can often cause drivers to lose their edge, you just can't have fear lurking and run as fast as the fearless driver next to you.

Obviously the chance is there, to even get killed, I just don't find the negatives to outweigh the positive, which would be doing what I love most.

im used to it masi and its not as high as it looks i just need to glance slightly up (parents put it there before i had a chance to ask if it could be lower though.... :P) but my old tv was about the same but smaller so overall its better... (ive been racing like this for years maybe since i was 10 lol)

@ greenarcotics - awesome  that would be my preferred height for the TV in relation to the steering wheel.

@ Paul - you probably have Fernando Alonso like neck muscles by now. You should adjust it, shouldn't be too hard since you already have the studs lined up.

Green how have you got the Gear stick on the left on your DFGT (where it should be for us uk drivers :sly:)

Actualy no , Masi it's drilled onto the wall by my step dad and he'd be very reluctant to change it. -_-

I build all my own rigs. I work for the family welding and machine shop. I'd like to think I'm a master fabricator. ;) lol

This one is my kids DFGT rig:
9d913e66.jpg

My seat is from a SRT4 "Viper inspired seat" snagged it for 60 dollars. Watched it on a local car forum. Went from 120 to 100 to 80. I offered 60 and he took it. The orange seat is an arcade seat from a plastic injection company a buddy worked at. He gifted it to me before getting the SRT4 seat. So put it to good use with kids.

Enjoy building these. They take some time to get "right".

So much that I plan to do another come spring.

Also note my set up is the back living room. Makes it nice cause when kids in bed. I can really crank it up. ;) do note I am 36 and have many years of working and saving to be in a situation to have decent stuff. Not rich nor spoiled. My kids maybe a lil spoiled.

The picture is mirrored, my gear stick is on the right just like yours. It's just the camera from my laptop don't know why it does that.

Awsome setups owens I like the 1st one looks very professional 👍

I guess that keeps your driving smooth and wrinkle free 💡

@ OwensRacing - That looks pretty legit (first 2 photos)! You can probably patent and put it in production.. i'd buy it... for the right WSGTC discounted price ;)

I might link these rig posts to the driver profiles - that's if we get enough.

Hope the mods don't mind these posts as they are a bit off-topic.

I did say mine was a laugh though, atleast I can say its better than a pad :P

Also Owens , yours are epic. Almost made me envyous but then I noticed it was painted in red bull colours

POW!
Great zinger.👍

Owens - We're gonna have to call you "moneybags" instead of Jeff from now on. :P

First showing of my "rig" ever. :scared:

First person view.

Overview, showing my end tables with accessories.

More of a side-view, showing my bungees and yes, I sit on a pillow, that chair sucks! (memory-foam pillow, mind you)
sany0373.jpg

Notice the Spongebob washcloth cushioning the back of the DFGT from being beaten by the top portion of the desk?
Sooner or later I plan to "seize-up" the keyboard slider my wheel is attached to, but until then...

Mods usually ok with us racers chatting with in our threads. Helps builds camaraderie with the group.

Thanks guys! The latest rig has a load of time invested. Went as far as to bondo seams before painting. First time ever using that stuff. Lucky a buddy does it as a profession stopped by and gave me a 101 real quick.

OK, my turn.

Most of the stuff is new, like the chair and the wheel and the stand. Normally, I sit on the floor using the DS3 you see on the right.

CSLACR, I might steal that pillow from you. My chair is about as comfortable as a rock.

Also, notice the totally awesome SD definition Magnavox.

I was going to say, looking at that chair makes my ass hurt.
I bought my foam pillow at Wal-Mart for something like 8 bucks. Just do it.👍 Got 'em for my bed too.

And yeah, I'm rocking an SD Emerson, 27 inch is roughly the same size as my downstairs 32 inch LCD, but all-in-all, GT5 looks pretty good on 480i resolution, just comparing it to crappy 1080i TV I have, the difference is less then you'd expect.

Also, if you missed it, just PM Masi to change registration for now, deadline for changes is Dec 9th IIRC.
