To be honest, I really thought I could make it... until lap 13 arrived, I realised I would only finish the 14th lap with dead tyres, and making it to the 28th would be even harder...

No problem, Dom. Stuff happens! And it's still 2 dropped rounds, so if I get decent results on the last 4 races, today's disaster won't be so important...

Interestingly Sail IC was doing the best on tire wear, and looked as though he could run a 3 stopper, and pit 4 times.

For me, a 3 or 4 stopper was exactly the same, so I entered the race not decided which to go for.

In the first stint I figured that Paginas was going to be the main competitor. I also noticed that I had better tire wear than him being able to develop a gap towards the end of the stint. WHen Pag pitted on race lap 10 I decided for a 4 stopper doing the first stop on race lap 11.

So I did a really weird combo. 11-9-10-12-9.

The second stint of only 9 laps was to protect the gap over Paginas. The fourth 12 lap stint was to make sure the last RM stint would stick to the end (conservative).

I forgot to put in some extra fuel on the last stop. Thought I was not going to make it to the finish line. Had to drive the last 5 laps very slow just to be sure, losing over 10 sec to Paginas in the process. But I had a 20 sec cusion startin the last stint, so it was just playing it safe (Paginas must have been excited thinking I might have damage).

Any chance a steward can jump into NTSC-1 ? BORTECH and I aarehere and need to be qualified.

I should not be disappointed since I got 3rd, which is fair considering johnkiller and Paginas were just too fast today.

But I got the second slowest "fastest lap". I thought I knew Suzu well, apparently I am missing something. And if I had figured out that something before the race it might have looked different.

It seems I got almost everyone convinced about doing 4 stops. But Dom had convinced me (and GV27) that 3 would be fine! :D

It was probably not a bad idea in itself, but when everyone else do 4 it means you get to drive lots alone, and whenever you meet someone they are on very different tyre wear. So not much draft partnering there.

Btw it is strange how not a single PAL-GT500 driver has yet revealed anything about how that race went. Did it all go down in flames or what?

-- Edit --
Just checked tyres used. Second race in a row where ByGGy only uses hards. Quite an achievement to get 4th that way, but still .

And Filip_Ovik, what happened? And why don't you give the qualifier a shot, it can't be that fun to start behind every time?

I ran a 2:06.6xx, cicua should have it up tomorrow I guess, pretty sure he went to bed.

BTW, I'm at 541PP, apparently I forgot to change my oil or something, I changed my oil and went to 541PP, checked the ballast and at 0 it's 541PP now at 355HP.
No idea what I ran with though.

Edit: And provisional points:

In the provisional points filip has 3 for race completion. But he only completed 3 laps. I was under the impression you only got the points if you completed more than 90% of the race...?

Oops, fixed now, thanks.

I was a bit disillusioned before loggin in tonight cause I knew I messed up the qualification. Even more after doin a 2'05"198 during the warmup..
At least I knew I could be quite fast if needed.

I took a pretty good start and managed to get in front of Cicua in S curves.

It looks like Jashugan has still some problems with cold tires at the beginning of the race cause I had an oportunity to get him at spoon.

Suzuka%20Circuit_4_mod.jpg

It didnt work though..

Suzuka%20Circuit_5_mod.jpg

Then I made a mistake at the first checkpoint, loosin the 7th position to Cicua. But I closed the gap and overtook Jashugan at the end of the 4th lap.

And Cicua at the beginning of the 7th lap.

Suzuka%20Circuit_7_mod.jpg

I was 6th and confident I could come back onto another group (Josh, Falcon, GV27) in front but made a series of mistake in the 7th lap costing me ~20s..
Back to the last position. I was quite surprised to see Filip, Falcon and Josh stop at the 8th lap and decided to try a 3 stops strategy without the medium compound (something like 13-26-39).

First pit on lap 12, before Josh and Falcon could come back on me.
I had Jashugan on sight again on lap 14 but I couldn't get in front of GV27 who exited from the pit.

Suzuka%20Circuit_8_mod.jpg

I did try to apply some pressure while he had cold tires but it just resulted in a net loss of 4s on this lap.
Nothing special till the 23th lap except a few mistakes from me and Jashugan;
But it allowed Josh and almost Falcon to overtake us before our 2nd stop.

Suzuka%20Circuit_10_mod.jpg

Out of the pit in the 9th position in the 24th lap. It wasn't not lookin good at this point cause I knew the last stint would be longer than expected..

On lap 28, GV27 get out of the pit in between me and Jashugan again but this time I decide to stay behind him and get as much draft as possible.

On lap 32, I was in 5th position; Josh and Falcon pitted and I was sure they would have to do one more stop. Hopes are back.

On lap 35, I did try to contain Falcon as much as possible but my worn tires did not help much. he overtook me on the outside line at the end of the S curves.

Suzuka%20Circuit_11_mod.jpg

On lap 36, I made a mistake on turn 1, lettin Josh pass. I was loosin too much time cause of my worn tires and decided to pit a bit earlier than planned.

On lap 42, back in 5th position. Josh did his last pit stop and Falcon exit from the pit in front of me. I decide to secure my 5th position by stayin behind and gettin as much draft as possible again.

I slowly lost contact with Falcon till he spun his car in Spoon in the 47th lap. He made sure to not get in my way before goin back on track though. 👍

I'm now in 4th position. Not sure what happened to Josh. I can slowly cross the finish line (last lap 2'11"xx). Pretty happy with the result of this race :)

Nice pics and writeup!

You really had some pace that I did not, I was happy to pass you when you made mistakes because I would not have passed otherwise.

I noticed you did a 1-stopper back on Indy, both stints on hards. I had been thinking of the same, but I did not dare :D

But this time I think you could have used mediums, it could have won 10-20 secs on last stint. I did 13-14-13-12(M). The mediums last almost as long as the hards, if not just as long.

I'm usually eating the hard compound quite fast already and the medium compound had a sudden loss in performance last time I tried them. I'm not planning to use em except for a stint of ~9 laps. But most of the time I do some mistakes which prevents me from doin such an agressive strategy.

I could have done something like a 13-14-15-10(M) but never managed to do more than 12 laps with hard tires and fuel (I did a 12-12-12-16)

That was a smart and sensible race (not like mine!); congratulations, team mate! 👍

Awesome Race Report, ByGGy. Very cool shots of the packed grid charging through the esses. 👍

**** race for me, didn't last 15 laps

Sorry to Vaz and Italia for causing a crash, didn't expect you guys to brake early

Hey guys, I have a room open that'll probably be open all day.

Room #: 1472 - 6118 - 3787 - 3247 - 5037

I actually have an awesome pic of Byggy and another driver to share then. :D

Any volunteer hosts this week or am I?

Before it's asked, we can't do mixed grid, because of the race length. :(
