.:Wanted:.

Since CSLACR has switched to the NTSC GT300 Class, we now have only one Steward / Capable Host for the NTSC GT500 Class (L_Hamilton). It would be nice to have a minimum of 2 Steward / Capable Host per class

So, who can do the Steward job? The Host job? The both?

PM me to let me know if you want to have this responsibility.

Thanks

.: Drivers Briefing (Read! Read! Read!) :.
Welcome to WSGTC newbies! I'll keep this brief and in simple English. Race clean, disciplined, and respectful around your fellow competitors! Fast but incompetent drivers need not apply - rather have slow and clean! Read the Racing Code 685 times (Click Here!).

You must follow the Car Specs and Regulations pictured below (TBA)! Not following specs will result in an immediate Disqualification.

While inside the race lobby, do not use the 'CHAT' feature while Stewards are sending out instructions for pre-race checks. If you have questions, go ask them NOW! Otherwise, read the OP. We will be using a special pre-race qualifying that is listed below - Read it! Thank you for your patience!

Car Specs and Regulations (All cars at Max Downforce for GT300!)
GT500 Regs - Open PP tuning.
All cars must be fully broken in, same as they would with set specs.
Modifications are unlimited.

  • YMS Yellowhat Supra - 596PP
  • Xanavi, Calsonic, Yellowhat GTR - 596PP
  • Motul Autech GTR - 597PP
  • Takata, Arta, Raybrig, Stealth NSX - 597PP

  • Bandai Direzza SC430 - 600PP
  • Eneos SC430 - 601PP
  • Tom's Castrol Supra - 603PP

Pre-Race Qualifying
  • Since we're not doing the weekly qualifying, we'll do a pre-race one instead.
  • After pre-race PP Checks are done, the track will be reset.
  • The field will be given 15 minutes to do their Qualifying in Free-Run
  • If you are satisfied with a lap, DRIVE back to the pits. DO NOT press PAUSE and then EXIT!
  • Again, drive back to the pits! Do not press pause and exit!
  • Stay in the Pits and wait for the start of the race.
  • Once everyone has been confirmed to be inside the pits, the host will start the race.
  • Once the countdown hits ZERO, DO NOT MOVE!
  • The field will roll slowly and maintain 50mph/80kph
  • Maintain your grid spots while holding a double-file grid (8 rows, 2 columns)
  • Follow the Rolling Start Procedure Inside the OP!
  • Goodluck and Have Fun!

Mixed Class - Formation lap procedure

  • GT300's will sort their grid positions first. While GT300's sort their grid, GT500's DO NOT MOVE. GT300 cars move from the grid ONE by ONE in qualifying order.
  • The Pole car drives up and parks about 100 m (300 ft) ahead. (WHILE DOING SO, THE OTHER CARS DO NOT MOVE ONE INCH). As he pases the start line, the
  • next driver can move up, and so on. Once all cars are in the correct position and are NOT moving, the pole car may start the first of two formation laps. When
  • the first lap is completed, be sure to pass the parked GT500 pack with caution. As soon as the GT300 pack have passed the GT500 pack (It's not always that GT300's need to pass the GT500's to lead the formation lap, details will be provided by the host before race start), the GT500's may pull
  • away from the start line ONE by ONE in starting order. From here on, GT300's lead the formation lap, with GT500's about 45-60 seconds behind.
  • We use this procedure to try and ensure that all cars got a decent chance of completing the race before the timer (max 180 sec) runs out. By doing this, we
  • also get finishing times for (hopefully) all cars making any penalties incurred easier to apply.
  • With this in mind, follow the steps below:
  • First, you must remember your Grid Spot (Super Lap Qualifying).
  • Hold your positions when countdown reaches zero.
  • Cars will make their way ONE BY ONE to the front and roll as a separate pack.
  • Cars must roll at a maintained pace of 55 mph / 90 kmh.
  • Field will roll double file (Single file for the Nurburgring 24h race).
  • Odd numbers will start on the inside lane relative to turn 1.
  • Even numbers will stay on the outside lane (Opposite side).
  • The Pole sitter will decide the point at which the race starts as he approaches the start-finish line.
  • You must maintain a minimum of One car length between you and the car in front (same lane).
  • One car length is the minimum, meaning it's up to you how large the gap is.
  • You must always maintain FULL visual contact with the ahead of you (opposite lane).
  • You're front bumper must not overlap the rear bumper of the car ahead of you (oposite lane), doing so can be viewed as a false start and a penalty can be applied as a result.
  • You must wait for the car ahead of you (opposite lane) to accelerate before you do!
  • No passing before the start finish line! Penalties will be strictly enforced for false starts, illegal passing, and overall aggressive driving!
  • * In case of a disconnect during the formation lap; cars behind must maintain position and can NOT move up the grid. Doing so can result in a penalty for breach of "jump start".

________________________________________________________________________________

.:Attention:.

As you can see, there are a lot of available spots in each room. But actually, because of a GT5 bug, we can do a nice race with only 12 drivers per room. It means that we stop the sign up when there will be 6 GT500 and 6 GT300 per room.

If need, we can do 2 rooms per conference = 48 spots. :)

PS: One more time, sorry for my wrong English. But the goal is that you understand me. ;)

I don't know. But u can find the best laps (in race) in one of my posts on this page. And yesterday, I made some GT500 tests, my best was 1:29.5 with the Motul - Turbo 2.

Yeah I seen that. Those are low 29s, wondering of those were done with a slip stream or not.
Would also like to know what laps they pitted too.

After today's race, I am seriously thinking in giving up on GT5. The servers are plain GARBAGE! It's gotten to the point where it's pretty much unplayable. There are about 4 series here at GTP that have delayed races, and to be honest I thought they were overreacting. Now, I understand those decisions.

What I experienced was only during the first half of the race pretty much when the room still had 14 or 15 people(cant quite remember). Along with the usual screen tearing, I had absolutely no grip on my car, and frame rate was so sloppy. I was doing 31s. My fastest lap was a 1.31.1. When the room got down to 12 people, it got back to normal grip levels and I was doing 29s. And you can see on the PAL results posted, I had 2nd quickest lap, but on the race, on first half of it, I was the slowest. The car just wasn't normal. This is probably the bug that people have been talking about.

The game has a limit of 16 people so in hell can't we use it? We must we have the freaking lobby limited to 11, 12 people in order to run it normally? I'm usually not a hater towards PD as I have always loved and appreciated their work, but they have now seriously dropped the ball. The game has been out for over a year and people still experience problems and now it's worse than it was on release day(at least it is for me). PD, before you decide to add features and bring out DLC, stabilize the game and make sure it supports all the additions you are making!!

The more the game gets added, the worse it performs. If this is the case, then stop updating the game and leave it as it is. Seriously, performance is more important than content for me. I'm really thinking of just leaving GT5, save money, get a good PC and go to PC sim racing. At least they work!!

Honestly, everyone did an awesome job on the race. PP/HP checks went great, everyone did the griding and starting procedures without problems and I had no problem whatsoever passing the GT300s. Marvelous driving by everyone. Too bad this freakin game had to ruin it!! You guys were great, but I don't know if I can stick around because it's just frustrating spending hours setting up your car and then have it ruined because PD won't bother to fix the game! R1600Turbo's Toyota GT86 series is run with rooms of only 12 people because of this stupid bug!! It's a shame! By the way, you guys should give it a try, closest racing I have ever experienced, great fun!

PD, I am begging you, fix the online portion of this game! And while you are at it, if you could fix the damn Chase cam I would appreciate that as well! 👍

Yeah it sucks and I guess everyone is anxious to see what tuesday update brings.

If it does not help I suggest we turn damage off. It might improve things as the bug seems to be cpu-load related and damage is probably a cpu-heavy feature.

Well we've always run with 14 anyway, so limiting it to 12 would be ok, and is ok in the 86 series you mentioned. So in WSGTC with mixed class racing, that'd be 6 with 2 classes. Not too bad at all considering we were only running max class population of 7 per race, still a lot of fun.

I hate the issues just as much as the next guy, but we need to realize this is sort of the dark ages in a sense, night is darkest before the dawn type of thing. Especially tough considering PD might not have much an option since they spent so much money on having to move all of their employees away from Tokyo due to the nuclear disaster. Imagine they had a big pool of money ready that said "Online racing optimizations" and they were about to spend it... then the Tsunami struck and they had to cover the ink and re-write, " The hard big move." But that's just wild speculation and thought exercise.

I'm sympathetic, I just wish they would communicate their situation with the network more.

That would be kind of sad to get rid of actually. We're one of the very few series that has exclusively used heavy damage since the beginning of GT5 so it's an institution. But if it helps smooth over the racing I'd be all for it.

Does anyone know why does every time there are loads of cars on track my framerate is very bad?

Do you think it's something to do with the PS3?

Common sense says it has to due with PD's server system. It's not strong enough considering how many people try to play it.

My little theory is that since we almost went a year before Spec II came around, the player base really dropped off after launch. Now more and more people are either coming back to GT5 and there's still new people buying it all the time since it's a platinum game (the XL edition won't help slow down numbers either lol). So what does that mean? Every time new content comes out, people swamp the servers and they become overloaded.

Sometimes I truly wish PD was a multi-platform game, 'cause I would've switched to the Xbox version a while ago. I say that because Microsoft gives every game server support that Microsoft runs, not the developers. This is also the main reason they charge $15 USD a month for Xboxlive Gold service, since Microsoft uses some of the money to maintain their massive server infrastructure. I'd gladly pay that if Sony were to decide to have a games-wide centralized server system.

PD has to run their own servers, and it costs massive amounts of money, and they're great, but just not big enough to handle the mass of people, it's like the game's a little too popular.

Thnks for that lol I'm off to bike show today soon see ya laterz...

It looks like there is a decision to make. Do we risk it and try to run a race with 16 on the track in our first race of the season or do we arrange another pre season race? Maybe we could mock up the qualifying this week for another pre season race. Ask everyone to treat it as though it was the real season. Hopefully soon the servers will allow us to run 16 in a room. It would be a shame to go straight into the season and have races ruined by lag etc.
One other thing is last night I noticed hellboy suffered from serious lag, to the point where it is affecting anyone racing with him. I don't know what connection method he is using, but it needs attention. Maybe everyone should do everything they can to improve their own connection. Maybe use Ethernet cable instead if wireless. You can buy a 30 metre cable for approx £4. Possibly if it can't be connected all of the time, just wire in on race days.
Any thoughts?

Probably a good start. But 30 metre is to long and you will lose speed. Plus 16 is just not on. 12 or lower is ideal number. Any more and its pretty much not worth it.
Just my 2 cents worth :)

I know before I changed internet provider. I had problems with my connection. I live in a 3 story house. I was quite a way from the modem, so I bought a 20 metre cable, which I used whilst racing and never had any issues. I think some people have really poor connections and if they are too far from the modem they would be better off using a long Ethernet cable.
I know it us better to race with 12 or fewer, however we are already commited to having 16 per race.

I have just stopwatch checked my replay:

Lap 1 - 2 (15,14 drivers): 4s per lap
Lap 3 - 18 (13 drivers): ~1s per lap
Lap 19 - 43 (12 drivers): 1s in total over 25 laps

For those who do not know, this is the differences between the lap times recorded in the replay and the actual stopwatch time when playing the replay. Any difference is a clear measure of badness.

So the 3D3 guys got it right from the start: Never more than 12.

There were also 1-3 spectators at all times, but compared to the drivers they seem to have no effect.

Litchi, i wish to change my car for the yellowhat GT-R.... appreciate

Doing so can result in a penalty for breach of "jump start".

.:Attention:.

But the goal is that you understand me. ;)

Thanks:

Masi_23, CSLACR, Twistedfirework, Cicua, IforceV8, Sail IC, Overheating, L_Hamilton, and all pilots. Hope you are happy to participate in this championship

Lol, this top post looks like an OP as he begins to be very long lol.

Well, I just double checked the replay.

1st of all....Hellboyfr...wooow. U're laggy man. That's extremely awful!! A chance for us is that we run preseason races with light damages.. So please, try to solve your connexion issues by:

  1. Use an Ethernet cable, no wireless
  2. Turn off your father's torrents
  3. Turn off your computer(s) (it means that you have to stop to speak with ByGGy and jashugan with TeamSpeak ;) ).

.:Race report:.

I'd like to thank you all the the Test Drivers. CSLACR, Twistedfirework, Cicua, IforceV8, Sail IC...
Now, it's a pleasure to do the checks before the race because they are simple ;) . And cars are very equal. It was your goal and you managed it! Big thumb up for you guys!!

Well, we finally decided to make only 1 room for the PAL Conference. Checks begins around 20.10.

All of you have understood the mixed class start procedure. I'm proud of you guys 👍 .

I had a good pace in the first laps but i did some mistakes and i was finally in last position at lap 9. It was the time to connect the brain and chose a good strategy. I decided to do a 2 stops race at laps 15 and 30 and I had to prove all my skills in my last stint to catch ByGGy, take the 3rd place and resist to the Jashugan come back. I did, proud of it ;) . Those 2 French guys are good drivers. But Paginas, you're my target for this season, I promess.. ;)

First race of the season will be Fuji, yes?

Will we be running the GT track or the F track?

Imo, the best would be to run the F with GT500 and the GT with GT300. Don't know what Masi has decided yet ;)

Heeeeyyyy Dooom, glad to see you here. You and Twisted are the "boss" for the race tonight. So you decide if you make 2 rooms, or only one, or else ;)

There is a lot of talk about the online bug. Without wanting to have a detailed discussion of it here it would be good to get peoples experiance from yesterdays race.

Not taking things like black screens, disconnects, etc into account, there are three major different issues that can occur in rooms with many players.

1, Lag --- Some cars are not being displayed accurately, ie are jumping back and fourth.

2, Frame drops --- Your monitor will miss some fames and will blur.

3, The newish "online bug" --- Your car will not be on pace. It will accelerate/break slower and have less corner grip. Its being debated in a GTPlanet thread and there are many question marks. The best way to know if you are affected is to do the "stop watch test". This is how you do it. Look at the replay and use a stopwatch to measure a lap time. Then look at the "game clock", and see how long time the game measured it at the "last lap" for that car. If its the same, you were not affected. If a delta, you were. Players in the same room/race can be aaffected differently.

It would be great if all players can report back what they experienced at yesterdays prerace, like "cicua" already did.

Here are mine:

Lag --- At the start of the race when the GT500 cars was waiting, one car was jumping all around big time. I think it was a GT300 car. Not sure, but I think he left the room as I didn't see it later.

Frame rate drops --- I had some, mainly in the very tight infield section just after the second timesplit.

"Online bug" --- I did a quick measure yesterday, and on my initial laps I didn't have difference between gameclock and stopwatch. As "cicua" has reported a difference (great job), I will remeasure it more carefully.
