Yes, indeed. This aircraft was not as far developed, and it got scrapped when the Valkyrie got cancelled.

Okey doke..........

Yeah, that's what I meant. Still no research: is it a Buccaneer?

That plane is called a Boomerang. 👍

The name of the company that made it is beyond me though.

Edit: Commonwealth built it 👍

The sleekness of it makes me think its a Racer. I can't tell you much more at the moment.

It's looking like a Dewotaine prototype of some kind, but that's all I'm getting in my head.

That is the Heston Napier, 1939 racer.

I came across it when idly reading about Napier engines.

I suggest you read up on the Deltic engine - it's fascinating (though it was used in boats, not planes).

Viper Zero
A Japanese 262!

:)
Sort of. Nearly.

I expected this one to be guessed instantly. I thought it was quite well-known. It's a jet, it bears a striking resemblance but is noticeably different, and it has a big red circle on the side.

It's a Nakajima Kiika, if memory serves.
Nakajima Kikka.

The Germans sent an Me 262 to Japan and the Japanese copied it to produce the Kikka, but the prototype was finished in August 1945 - just in time for the surrender.

Man, the canopy is saying Blackburn or maybe Fairey, the cowl is saying Hawker, the rudder is saying Vultee or something, and my memory is saying "...".

It's kind of pretty, in a clunky sort of way.

None of those!

This was made by a manufacturer who is best known for producing a fighter design that proved hopelessly inadequate and was quite quickly withdrawn from frontline duty.

You know, I looked at one other manufacturer, but it didn't seem to have anything similar... that inadequate aircraft you mention wouldn't happen to be the only fighter made with no forward-firing guns, would it?

D'oh! We've even had a different version of this very aircraft before.

It's a Boulton-Paul Sea Balliol. With the wings up it hides the back of the canopy so it's a little hard to identify. This one looks to be powered by either a Merlin or a Mercury engine. The one we had before was a land-based version, and was the first aircraft to fly with a single turboprop engine.

It was also the last production aircraft made by Boulton-Paul.

I had several interesting numbers to choose among, but I'll go with this one:
