That's normal. Offline and online have different physics engines (see game credits), and online is always slower for whatever reason.

That's what I had always heard and I assumed it was true, until I went roughly at the same speeds both at Suzuka and Nürburgring/D. Oddly enough, I miss nearly all my time on the last two sectors, which are basically throttle!

I guess I'll start training on-line most of the time, from now on :dopey:

Some say physics are equal offline and online while some say it isnt the case. In my own experience, online on FREE RUN when there isnt many people, the physics are the same as offline and i match offline times. When in a race, im usually slower maybe because of little lag or the game just takes time to process data...

From my experience, online has slipperier roads tracks. I notice this because when I was practicing to drift offline with my wheel I was able to keep my drifts going constantly. Online I would spin out a lot more then when I did offline. Also sometimes, my times offline are faster then my online lap times. Thats what I think at least.

It does seem to me that most cars feel looser online. That says to me that surface traction is reduced online. Also, not related to racing but a lot of people can wheelie a few of the cars offline, yet I don't believe anyone has been able to get a car to hook up enough to wheelie online. That also supports the notion that traction is reduced online. One car that sticks in my mind as having a drastically different feel online and offline is the Elise 111R. Already a loose car offline, becomes almost undriveable online without suspension changes. The fact that most of the 'good' online races use "REAL" Grip Reduction may be the key effect at play here, but I haven't the time to test. I don't even have time to setup the ITR haha the suspension is still mostly stock settings. That said I may not be able to make this weekend's race, but I'm going to try. Haven't driven since Sunday.

It's not the trackside grip set to real that does it Marcus, it's only the fact that most modes offline disable tire wear. Once tire wear and fuel simulation's set to on, the true nature of the car's handling comes out. That's the only different.

@Mule
the title of the thread says the Nurb. GP/D room's been open for a few days now.

I thought about tyre wear, too... but to lose almost a second from fresh tyres to "1-lap-used" tyres... still strange, I think, really.

For the record, I was doing free run, and completely alone... maybe it's free run, that feels different? I shall do further testing...

That makes sense.

Actually if you go to practice and set the track conditions to real. It will still feel stickier then online.

Practice mode is "unreal". No matter what settings you put. I can prove this as I used to practice here, and then I noticed the extra grip that was provided here. A spec events, Seasonal, and Arcade Mode set on real grip are very similar to online physics. Practice on Arcade Mode, or use the online lobby.

One last note on my times, still in the low 56 range, but feel I am losing a ton of time getting the last corner in the bus stop right. What are the rules with the bus stop, two tires on the pavement??

It'll be the standard "two tires on the track; curb = track" rule. I took some pictures of "dirty" parts of the track, and also pictures of where we should be pitting in and pitting out.

I'll get those up sometime today, as well as the updated point standings.

Finally got around to getting some practice in and am pretty confident that I'll be running in last place here as well. You guys' times are fast. Your all very good drivers and I enjoy racing with you. I just wish I had more time to practice so I could be competitive. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to this weeks race! Good luck to all.

Okay, so. Track boundaries.

Turn 4, on exit. Stay within the white line on exit.

While on the oval, stay above the yellow line. Anything below the yellow line is not track.

In the Bus Stop chicane, curb is track. Keep at least two wheels on the track.

Pit entrance, Do not cross the thick yellow line. Pull onto the apron before it starts. Also, try to stay within the thick yellow line and the white line.

Now this is the important part:

On pit exit, make sure to use the entire pit exit. Violators WILL be penalized.

Although there is no speed linmit, stay within the white lines on pit exit, as well.

Bad news (for me), guys. I'm suspending all my online racing activities for the next several weeks. The only race I'm considering participating in is the final race at Nurburgring.

Reason (for those who care):
For me, these races are fun because they are competitive. I immensely enjoy putting my best effort against the best effort of everyone here. If I can't put in my best effort and fade away in the rear view mirror of others best effort then the fun slips away for me. If racing isn't fun then it's just a waste of time.

The only way I was able to keep up last season was by practicing AT LEAST 10 hours for each race. I don't even have half that time to dedicate to racing right now, which why I have decided to forgo the rest of the season. Something I'm still considering is practicing a little bit each week for the final race.

I guess my colour and number can be up for grabs. If I'm not at the final race then I'll definitely be back around the new year.

That's too bad Nastra. You already know the car so keeping pace should be easier this season. You did awesomely at Suzuka and I think that with just an hour of prep-time you can still be competetive at the top, no question. You're a great driver.

I'm so sad about this, you really are a top driver, and I'd enjoy having you at the track with us! I know what you mean about it not being fun if you can't do your best, as I feel the same (although I'm slower!).

i barely practise more than 2 hours worth for every round but i do ok imo for my skill level :) itd be sad to lose you since you are number 1 for a reason 👍

Coming from a consistent backmarker, it's still entirely possible to have a fun race at the back. I've said it before, if everybody quit racing because they didn't want to be at the back, nobody would race.

I really hope you reconsider this, man. It'd really suck without you.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. It means a lot to me, but I already decided this and can't go back on my decision now. It's not about being at the back or not winning; it's about not being able to put my best effort into it. I can't stand the feeling of thinking I could have done better (in anything) if I had just tired harder. I simply do not posses the ability to focus on more than one thing at a time, and I'm an all or nothing kind of guy. I don't always like it, but that's just the way I am. This was a tough decision to make and I'm going to miss it a lot. But January isn't all that far away and I'll be back in full force then.

I'll still be hanging around as a spectator to see how the season unfolds. This is a great community that is fun to be a part of.

+1

I have no practice time myself and just run this series for something to do when I have the weekend off. I plan to be at the back for all of these races, because the only time I usually get to drive is during qualifying and the race. If my PS3 gets turned on one other time during the week that is a lot. I haven't even the time for any productive testing and it's killing any chance I have without a decent setup but I'm learning to deal with the tyre wear and pit strategies.

I respect your competitiveness. It shows you have a great level of dedication to this series and you will be truly missed. Good luck on your other endeavors. We look forward to racing with you again.

10 hours of practise is excessive but I admire your dedication and it's obviously the reason you're so fast and run up front all the time and are of course the reigning champion! The series won't be the same without you Nas. I sense a females had a word! :)

Any chance I can qualy earlier than official qualy as I'm off out later. Let me know when's convenient.

Its too bad Nas, to be honest you were the under dog in the last season of the IWC! It was me WiiFreak, and RedReevos in the top 3 and after 3 races you just come out of nowhere and dominated us on a few races. I cant remember who the champion was last season but i think it was down to you and wiifreak. We'll see you at the Nurburgring! ....Or in the new year.

I'm not going to be able to qualify at the official session as I will be visiting family today. Will you be accepting qualifing later tonight?
