If the draft is the only concern (other than turn 1), what I could do is enforce a specific gear ratio, so that the speed difference and closing rates aren't nearly as bad.

The problem, though, would be with enforcing it, and making sure everybody gets the message.

EDIT: About the pit glitch, making 1st gear shorter also helps to prevent it from happening.

Also, it's really hard to be consistent here. If I'm fast through the infield, then chances are, I brake too late for the Chicane, or vise-versa. I got a 1:56.0xx on a "careful" lap.

I'd rather roll my eyeballs round the carpet than race Daytona. Change it to Rome mule, or even a home made track. Please? :)

Whatever we do, I'd like to know it as soon as possible, so I can at least start practising. I need to do it as soon as possible if I want to have any hope of recovering my motivation!

Whaaaat!?!? Excellent racing to be had here.

Maybe these cars are a little slow. But I would think they be a blast. Bus Stop and turn 1 us where the time is hiding.

It would be just nice to race on some tracks that don't get raced on that often. I'm just voicing my opinion. I'm cool with whatever mule decides.

I like the track itself, easy on the tires and easy to set up. The problem is the exaggerated draft of GT5 that may ruin the race for many.

This is life in GT5. If we want to avoid draft affects heavily influencing the outcome of our races we have to drop La Sarthe as well.

Personally, I like Daytona and am going to try my best to make the race. The track has wide corners and a good number of straights, making for plenty of passing opportunities. I have good memories of watching the Dayton race replay from last seasons. The race was a blast.

I adamantly disagree about running a custom track. Rome is fun, but is it really suitable to not only the car but also the number of cars we are running? (This is a genuine question, not a statement.)

What's wrong with a new track? Its just straights and corners and a new challenge. Just that it doesn't have nice scenery doesn't mean it isn't any good

I don't see what the number of cars has got to do with it. Tsukuba is hardly suitable for a large grid but last seasons race there was wicked!

I got so pissed after what happened to me at Nürb/D, that I decided to get my wheel set up and start training with it. Usually it takes way too much space for me to use it, and it's rather uncomfortable, but I sort of got it going, just for GT5 now, so I want to get as serious as I can. Not that my times at Daytona are fast, now, as I still have to get used to the wheel, after not having used it for a long time, but at least I'll be on the right path.

I've decided we're sticking with Daytona. The last thing I'm doing is switching it with another dumb street circuit.

Just pulled off a 55.5 a 55.2 is definitely getable for me. I'm also about to take some pictures of places that are not track, and of the pit-in and pit-out, as last season there were people all over the place. I'll get those up shortly.

Good thinking batman.

Right, ok, I'm waaaaay off the pace. Grrr

me and nep got into the 54s last night dunno if it was a fluke on my part though

Did a few laps tonight, well about 10, and couldn't do any better than 56's. It's so tough trying to pick yr breaking point for the bus stop as there aren't really any visual references for it.

Awesome man, you're gonna do great!

All the info you need is in the first 2 posts of this thread. :)

Well, if I did "decent", that'd be good enough!! Haha :)

Thank you, in any case, Wardez. I'm on 54s, so far, at Daytona, and that's with my "race set-up". I feel I could improve a little bit with the brake balance in "qualifying-mode". I don't think 53 is attainable by me, but I may not be that far away, in the end.

Yeah seems like that manual shifting's really put you on the level 👍

Sing me up.
#78:Tankhouse (Tankhouse) :Black Sand Pearl/Black

Not sure if it matters, but I have run with tank plenty. He is a good clean driver, wont have any problems with him. 👍

Also, I am not even close to the 54 bracket, team two two is going to have to put our noses to the grindstone to find a bunch of time.

Surprisingly, I'm still going auto, but using the steering wheel seems to be going much better. Once I'm confident on my driving, I'll switch to manual and then... we'll see what happens!

I tried going manual right away, but I keep messing with the speeds, and this keeps me from advancing. So I thought I'll do the same thing I did at Nürburgring/D; which is getting used to everything, and then try the manual shifting to try and gain one or two tenths!

Would you really say it's "on the level"? I still feel I should be able to go faster!! Thank you, however! 👍

I'm starting to look forward to the next race again, which is good :D

Definitely on the level in my opinion. 54's here too and no sign of a 53. A mid 54 would be a good qualifying time I think, however it won't matter too much with the draft at DRC! Unless you take pole for an extra point! ;)

Well, I'm hanging out in the mid to high 56's. Looking forward to hanging out at the back!!

Ever since La Sarthe last season I've been running a 1,3 brake bias. Does anyone disagree with this, specifically for Daytona? Also, I'm running max,32 downforce at this track. Any better ideas?

I'm guessing a one stopper is going to be the aim, seeing how it was the standard season where the race was only 30 laps.

Int it weird. I run a 0-8 brake bias. Dies the brake bias work or have they just been fooling us

I've done a very high 55. But that's it. Not sure where the times to be had!

At Nürburgring I used 5-6 normally (and I was going to use it for the race) and 4-8 for qualifying. I don't think it's a placebo effect, because I was able to break a little bit later, so I gained around two tenths of a second.

Pole?? I don't see myself with that! If things go like, perfectly, I might be 4th or 5th; and that would already be wonderful.

Would b interesting to see last seasons qualy positions compared to finishing positions and see how important qualifying is on such a drafty track.

I noticed something very interesting 💡

When I'm driving against my own shadow/ghost, I'm able to do my fastest times, as the shadow "guides me", in a way. However, when I'm driving on my own, as opposed to the other tracks, I tend to lose my way, and go around 1 second slower than my PB.

I find it quite odd, to be honest. The car should not behave differently, right? I mean, it should be my own driving? I'd understand it if it was 4-5 tenths, but a whole second is puzzling. I'm so confused I even had to go back to testing off-line without the shadow, and surprise, I was around 2 tenths off my best.

So I can safely assume the car does NOT behave the same in both places, even if (in my case) it did at Suzuka and Nürburgrind/D.

Offline times will always be better than online times. Not that you shouldnt practice offline though, racing against your shadow is a great way to find time on certain sections of the track.

Also on the brake bias settings, I have been running 4 f 8 r, but i rarely if ever use the full amount of the brake. Probably the single thing that has made me faster these past few months, less brake is more.

One last note on my times, still in the low 56 range, but feel I am losing a ton of time getting the last corner in the bus stop right. What are the rules with the bus stop, two tires on the pavement??

I know; but the thing is that the car felt faster off-line, even when practicing without shadow. That's what irks me. It never happened to me before; as my times were basically the same off-line and on-line (occasionally faster on-line, even).

That's normal. Offline and online have different physics engines (see game credits), and online is always slower for whatever reason.

Sometimes I use shadows on the track as reference points if no other ones are around. The bus stop is still a guessing game for me at this point. Luckily I saved all the replays from last season so I'm studying it a bit to recall the reference points.
