God, I really want a 37-42 inch HDTV (preferably LCD/LED, because I also want to hook up my PC), but I can't decide which one. I only just heard about so-called 'input lag' and that doesn't really help in deciding either. It's making my head spin :P

But then again, does input lag has a lot of influence on playing GT5 (or race games in general, if you wish)?

i've dumped $400+ in flight controls for a WWII PC Air combat sim. DS will do for GT5, but at least i have a 62" Samsung HDTV to play on.

Logitech Driving Force GT attached to DIY wood and vinyl wheelstand
Buttkicker Gamer 2 seat kicker
5.1 audio sloppily arranged around my seat
no name 27 inch 1080p HD set about 2 feet in front of my seat
ashtray and rockstar energy drink beside me
VROOOOOOM (spin crash)

Wait, isn't it locked to using a wheel? ;)
Just kidding, looking forward to play it with a DFGT and an HDTV

Well, we're at least two here who is missing this key element. I've been in the TV-set market for years and I still haven't decided which one I'll buy. I've tried few sets but it was pure disappointment in every case. I hope my next choice will finally satisfy my needs: here is the Panasonic TX-L37D28ES LED TV...

...which is quite expensive these days, so I'll wait till the price drops a little :)

The input lag phenomenon means time (usually in milliseconds or frames - the less the better) that your TV needs to show the instantaneous picture from your external source device, like PlayStation 3 for example. In other words, if you have high input lag (some say that the border when you say some TV has low or high input lag is 30 ms), reaction and control accuracy of the game seems slow: you hit the button and you have to wait some time to see (and mainly feel) the assigned action (i.e. brake or clutch) on screen. It's even more important these days when you have all those motion controls like Move. Low input lag suitable for non-casual or more sensitive gamers can be found on most of plasma TVs or on Sharp and Panasonic LCDs. These brands really care about your gaming experience. Sony is, surprisingly, average at this point. The worst choice from this angle is Samsung LED TVs (although I love them - they're best for movie watching!) and Vizio TVs.

I'll be playing with a Logitech G27 wheel on my home-made wheel rig. That's a 7-way adjustable seat from an 86' Toyota Supra. It's seen better days, but it's a pretty good racing seat. It always kept me in place when the Supra was running.

At the moment I have my PS3 hooked up to a 61' RCA big screen. It's an older TV (2003), but it still has a really good picture and is still quite bright. It actually smooths out some of the jaggies and edges that you might get on an HDTV. There is potential for a new HDTV however. There is a 46' Sony Bravia in the house, but the wheel rig does not transport easily to the Bravia.

Sound-wise, I have my PS3 hooked up to a Sony STR-DG800 amp with 7.1. I don't have a sub hooked up yet, but I am getting one very soon. Then I'll have the full 7.1 capability. Speakers in the rear, middle, and front, and center speaker, and sub. Set the PS3 to small theater setting, crank it up, and GT5 Prologue sounds quite awesome when you drive around the Ford GT, Corvette Z06, or any of the GT-Tune cars.

Here's my wheel rig:

DFGT mounted on a coffee table while sat on a sofabed looking at a 720p (:() 24 inch (it's the biggest that'll fit in the corner by the door) with a cheap surround sound system. I may switch to a Sixaxis DS3 when I fancy some arcadey cruising with my friends though.

Currently hooked up to a 22" 720p Samsung PC monitor. Hoping to upgrade a bit later...maybe 3D but not too sure about it or the size I'm hoping to look at.

Definitely in the market for a G27 wheel...I'll buy a used (or loan from my dad) an actual race seat and put together my own stand. Standard Sixaxis for now.

5.1 sound might be good, but not at the top of the list.

Lol, i have a ****** speedster racing seat that needs upgrading.
Also have a dfgt that i want to upgrade to a g25/g27

however,
i have just bought a 50" 3d plasma which should be fun!
