I don't like the new physics....

I'm just going to say it, I prefer GT5's physics to the new GT6 one, in fact I currently absolutely hate GT6's physics engine, it's such a radical departure (not in a good way in my opinion) that I can't be alone in not getting to grips with it.
Allow me to explain, even though GT5's physics weren't perfect, it provided me a lot of fun for 3 years, there was a weightiness and progressive controlability which provided instant info and feedback and made sure you could manage and provoke oversteer easily for example and gave you a nice feel of driving a car allowing you to get in a flow or play around instead, it felt balanced and believable for the most part despite its flaws.

In GT6 however, there isn't any weightiness, just a dead feeling of lightness when in straight line, combined with a completely skittish and sudden movement aiming to replicate the suspension and tyres when turning (and which makes that a lot of cars have now become undriveable or at least no fun to drive), the only info is suspension travel and tyres working but nothing else meaning the car is often all over the place.
What I expected was something like GT5 (which was a completely redone engine) but with the new suspension/tyre model being integrated and some flaws removed but instead it's something completely different and basically ruins a game I was really looking forward to, I simply can't get into GT6 as it's the core aspect of a driving game.

Now what's surprised me is that this isn't really mentioned here, I only hear positive feedback and people praising GT6's new physics, am I alone in hoping for a physics update which returns it somewhat to GT5's model (but improved) making that I can finally start enjoying this game and all the new content like I hoped I would be doing from day one or are there more here who think the same or question my preference?
Right now, I only start up GT6 occasionally (GT5 I was playing constantly in the beginning) hoping that I'm persuaded I'm wrong, only to become frustrated again and again and means I can't be bothered to progress or buy new cars for example.
This I find such a shame as I want to enjoy this game but the one core thing that always (for the most part) for me made GT a dead sure purchase, the convincing physics and feel, just isn't there right now.

I feel the exact opposite way. The new physics definitely provide more info on what's going on with the car and it gives you a sense of weight GT5 didn't have. GT5 did something that no other console racing game did and that is making you feel the car firmly planted on the ground. GT6 however, took it further.

Sure there are flaws that can (and must be fixed), but in my humble opinion, GT6's physics are a huge step forward to what I thought couldn't be improved further. If this game had the same physics than GT5 I can assure you I would've stopped playing already.

And so far I haven't found any car that is undrivable, other than the R8 LMS. I could also say the Stratos is, but that's the point of that car; being undrivable.

I don't know. Maybe it's me. Since I don't really strive to be the fastest, nor I do care about competing or having the most tuned and fastest car, but just enjoying the cars as they are, then that's why I really don't find any problems with the physics. Thankfully I've been lucky enough to get gold for every event now and at no moment I felt the physics got in the way with that.

Analog, you say you start up GT6 occasionally. How many cars have you driven? It's your choice, but I think the more you drive in GT6 the more natural it becomes to you.

For me, the driving dynamics are the best of any video game. I'm not big on PC games that make it harder than real life.

I think the physics are a definite improvement over GT5 and one of the strongest assets in GT6. There is still room for improvement and a few bugs in it but the cars drive more real now than before. GT5 initially anyway the cars all seemed to feel similar where in GT6 there is a big difference between a FR car and a MR car. The weight transfer is much more noticeable now though sometimes I wonder about the weight balance on some of the cars.

I wonder what input device and settings the OP is using to arrive at this opinion?

The physics is the only reason I play 6 over 5. Everything else like the graphics, framerate, features, online etc is much worse.

The new physics makes it easier to drive cars for me, it feels like you are connected with the road better. GT5 felt very floaty.

The new physics are more realistic for sure.

Seems I am in a minority as expected and maybe it still needs to grow on me although so far I can't say it's much fun (which is the reason I play games, and no, PC racing sims aren't tempting for me), I use a controller by the way.

Are you using chase cam? Chase cam has felt horrible since gt4. You wont be able to feel **** using chase cam. I am suprised at the amount of people that use it. Use bumper cam.

If you need more fun, buy a wheel and the game will be awesome... This can change the way you drive and feel the car.
Try to save your money for a logitech G25 or G27, or the cheaper DFGT. Or take the Thrusmaster T500 RS for the best experience you can have on Gran Turismo.

I use controller too and I like GT6 physics more than GT5.

I can't feel a thing from bumper either and I can't even estimate the width of the car. Cockpit or hood/roof for me.

It took me a while to get used to the physics changes. I felt like I had to change my driving style, I used to throw cars around in GT5 but GT6 is forcing me to be a lot smoother since catching slides can be a bit tougher and seem less progressive.

I definitely miss being able to slide around on the edge of traction, now it seems like feeling where the "edge" is has been made a bit harder (maybe just different).

I've gotten used to the new physics now, but I still miss being able to hoon around with ease like in GT5 .

It feels mighty fine via the T500RS. A huge improvement over GT6. I dialed the FFB to 8 and the sensation from just accelerating forward is more real than it's ever been. In GT5, the steering sensation feels soft and underwhelming compared to where it is now in GT6.

GT6 physics are better than GT5 obviously u can feel almost every change in your suspension setup..the only thing that confuses me is tyre model...sports hard tyres are so damn grippy when I drive for example BMW M5 '08 (stock) on sports hard my ride is clean as sh**, no oversteer, no powerslides (in GT5 there were many of them :D )

(Using Logitech G27)

You do have to be smoother. A wheel and pedals help a lot. I could not (would not) play GT6 with a controller but then I would not play GT5 with a controller either. My only issue with the physics is that the MR cars take a lot of unusual tuning to make them fast. MR is what I drive 90% of the time but I still prefer GT6 over GT5.

I hate GT5 physics.
GT6 physics is much better but still not good enough.
I hope for more improvement on PS4 and GT7.

Maybe you could borrow a wheel before buying one, in case using a wheel doesn't change the feel and your current opinion (so you're not out on €xxx for nothing)... In my opinion, GT6 (or any other racing game) isn't made to play with a gamepad, but then again, they (PD and other developers) can't expect everyone to go buy a wheel to play their game...

LOL! I tried to boot up and play with a controller the other night, and it was impossible. I can still play GT5 with a controller, but not this. The new physics are much closer to what a real car does than GT5.

There's a lot I'm disappointed with in GT6 but I really feel like the physics are very much an improvement over GT5. Far far from perfect and could use some patching (see the wheelie/stoppie stuff) but I really like the feeling of the cars in GT6.

GT6 is a definite improvement to GT5, but GT6 needs a Spec update, which is 6mo to a year away. to make it that much better. There is a definite flaw in the game currently, that changes EVERYTHING when you equip different tires on the front, than the rears, to make the cars behave better? Take the RUF yellowbird we all fear to tame on the Nur, see how it behaves like a boar on PMS with all 4 racing tires? now change the two front tires to sport softs. you're welcome.

(In response to the OP)
Its people like you who like the crappy physics in GT5 who are the reason for GT5 having crappy physics. Physics are 100x better in GT6 but I assume you think that just because cars are harder to drive (more realistic...) that makes the physics worse  My tip to you is to practice a more delicate driving style with certain cars you find tricky instead of complaining that its the games fault

I really don't see how you can dislike the engine so much without (seemingly) have played very much.

In my own opinion I've found everything about the physics to be better and have been able to drive without TC on with every car because they are so much easier to feel and get a handle on compared with the relatively dead feeling I got from 5.

I think it's worth your time (as you bought the game) to spend a lot of time driving lots of road cars without slicks in the game around tracks you like just so you can get a handle on them (assuming you've done most of the career events, and if you've not... Finish those lol). The game does a really great job of easing you into the engine and the cars and allows you to get to grips with lots of different kinda without much grinding.

It's diffrent yes but if your struggling asking for help and looking up driving styles online is a great help! :)

Hey analog! Did you started this thread on pourpose? to pist people off? Cause seriusly man it seems you don't know a single thing about driving simulators or car physics.
Do you use a wheel?
Have you ever played other top end driving simulator on pc like, iracing or assetto?
Have you ever drived a car fast in real life?

Cause without ofence, you sure sound like a noob. GT6 physics is now by far the best car physics ever fetured in a console, almost aproaching to netkar pro feel IMO, just need a more powerful sistem to better simulate the suspension reaction on the car and tire deformation.

I know GT6 physics is not perfect, some cars are not well simulated or with a bad stoc setup, but over all its great!

Good luck with GT5 !

I found the physics hard & frustrating at first, but the more I played the more i began to appreciate how good they were, & how much I needed to improve in my driving. Feels a lot more realistic than GT5 imo. But of course, no sim will ever be 100% realistic.

My advice is to test lots & lots of different cars, trying to find somethings you like. Try some AWD cars, like an old Skyline for example, they're much more stable.

👍
