I'm thinking about standard cars in GT7

If you don't like them, don't buy them. It's as simple as that.
No it isn't that simple, not for everyone. I don't want to shell out $500+ for PS4 and GT7 and then go online and race against 10 year old, terrible looking cars. I'm paying a premium for new technology to get away from the old stuff, not rehash it.
Its also true that GT7 will have the highest car count of any game on the market at that time, likely 500+ premium cars. Redo a few of the most iconic standards and move forward.

Then don't get a PS4...
Do you seriously feel the need to get the newest, best gaming console with its "premium technology" and pay the $500 dollars (Not to mention a $70-80 copy of Gran Turismo 7 and a Playstation Plus membership for Online)? I'm happy with my PS2/PS3 with their OK technology, cheaper games, and PS3s free online. No matter what you play you will always get those self-centered 10 year olds in online lobbys. You just have to deal with them. Report them if you must. Believe me, it's worse on Call of Duty Black Ops and probably even GTA5.

Uh, he said 10 year old car cars, not 10 year old players. As in, the standard cars were first created for GT4 in 2004.

Except if they handled them the same way they did in GT5 & GT6 (and there is no reason to believe they wouldn't) it wouldn't be as simple as that, because they'd be taking part in races and I'd be seeing them all over the game whether I like it or not.

Oh the pain... the pain. You guys have my deepest sympathies. Maybe. :D

I'll say it again. If PD does include Standards in GT7 in some form or fashion, one of us is going to be having too much fun to care what you guys think.

It would be kind of pathetic if PD put PS2 definition cars into a PS4 game. I hope they make all of the cars premium. But knowing PD's EXCELLENT RECORD OF LISTENING TO THE FANS (sarcasm). It will never happen.

But I wouldn't like racing against them, either.

To anyone that's okay with Standards being in GT7....

What if PD resurrected some Gran Turismo 2 cars? STP Viper, Vector M12, R390 '97, etc. By resurrected I mean those EXACT PS1 models, completely unchanged from a visual standpoint.

Would you be okay with driving PS1-quality cars in a PS4 game?

I would, if they looked like the other Standards. And I requested this very thing years ago, so I beat you. ;)

I was going to edit my post above, but a bunch more posts came along, so I'll posit this here. Do you want Standard tracks removed too?

If not, why are Standard tracks okay but not cars?

I used to complain a lot about the standards cars until a car I loved to race in previous games is not available anymore... Not even as a standard. So, I ratter prefer to drive it standard than dont drive it at all!

Well they'd have the same poly count as they did in GT2 (low hundreds?). That running on a PS4 game at 1080p to further expose it's flaws....yikes.

Standard tracks I could deal with more than cars, but I'd still rather not mess with those things. Call it OCD or too picky or whatever, but it'd take A LOT for me to choose quantity over quality. I like consistency too much.

And I said this long before GT6 released.

- All cars Premium quality.
- All tracks visually consistent WITH both dynamic time and weather.

In my opinion, those should be standard (no pun) come GT7.

Well, it wouldn't happen like that anyway, so your pointless hypothetical is pointless.

Why not ask any old thing like, "What if the next GTA game was really Tetris?"

Standard tracks I could deal with more than cars
And why is that? Arbitrary choice? "Well, more tracks are cool"?

Let's change that a bit. "Well, more cars are cool." Why would your sentence be okay, but mine not?

And see, this is where us more cars guys are coming from. In spite of the mental anguish Samus and Johnny P go through with Standard cars, they're a blast for the rest of us. Between articles written about GT5 and 6 and polls taken here, Standard cars don't seem to be an issue. Roughly a third here want them gone, versus the rest who don't mind them or love them. And telling people that they can't have something... yeah, that always ends well. Especially based on some arbitrary opinion that isn't universally shared.

This is all an academic exercise anyway, because Kaz will decide what he decides. But there's no question that no matter which side "wins," the other won't be happy about it. Especially since, other than a handful of races, no one will ever have to have their eyes injured by a Standard for more than a brief span of time.

Actually it's not pointless, because in my hypothetical situation it would. I'm talking about taking GT2 models as is, and throwing them in GT7 without any visual modifications.

Because it's my opinion. I didn't say I'd be okay with them returning in general. But if it came down to choosing standards tracks vs cars to stay, I choose tracks every time.

Okay, so let's say that in the next Grind Trash Alto game, you walk around well modeled city streets playing Tetris on a handheld, and that's all you do...

I dunno, I ate a late brunch and I'm bored. I'm gonna go twiddle knobs and sliders on my synths.

Well, it wouldn't happen like that anyway, so your pointless hypothetical is pointless.

So how would his hypothetical happen if it didn't happen exactly like it was done in GT5? I mean, yeah, they would need to convert the sprites to actual textures I'm assuming, but they wouldn't look any better once that was done.

And why is that? Arbitrary choice? "Well, more tracks are cool"?
Might have to do with the fact that very few of the Standard tracks weren't at least retextured for GT5; with Monaco being the most blatant exception.

I love the irony of someone constantly championing PD as the best at their craft in terms of modeling then turning around and defending the use of decade (or, by 2015, decade-and-a-half) assets as a good thing, when said assets have been behind the curve the competition has laid out for an entire console generation.

It's that sort of consistency PD should really seek to emulate, surely.

I wonder how these "standard cars lovers" will behave should, lets say, Forza 6 manage to amass a number of 800 highly detailed "next-gen" cars in their roster and release at the same time frame of GT7. I was a GT fanboy once, but now I see GT is being left behind as a "game".

It's highly unlikely that there will be standard cars in GT7. Mainly because they will look stupid on the PS4 compared with highly detailed premium cars and also because people will shoot members of PD...

The thing is PD will just add them in GT7 anyway, because not only do they believe in quantity over quality, but also because they don't know people hate them and don't want them back. Oh yeah that's right, they don't listen and visit fourms. Figures...

I'm even surprised some people even loves and wants standard cars. You can't even do anything with them but, ah yeah, paint them, add/remove spoliers/wings and changing there wheels. When I go online in GT6, I see most people use premium cars and Interior less-premium cars over standard cars, which should be a indication that standard cars are not needed for future GT titles. But alas, PD doesn't care what we think. However, they probably will when GT7 gets a lot of flak and it flops, but I still doubt they'll listen...

The Alfa 147 TI, Alpine A110, Amuse S2000 GT1, Aston Martin DB9, Audi TT, Audi RS6, Arta Garaya, Speed 8, Veyron, Camaro Z28, Corvette Stingray, Corvette C2, Corvette Z06(C5), Cizeta, Daihatsu Coupen, Fiat 500f, Ford GT, Civic 97, NSX,S2000, XJR-9,Delta HF, Stratos, Elise '97, Elise 111R, Esprit V8 '02, Europa Special, 787B, Autozam, Eunos Roadster, Rx-7 GT-X,Rx-7 Spirit,Rx-8,Efini Rx-7, Mercedes 300 Sl, SL 500 amg, SLR, Sauber C9, Evo IV, Evo VI, Fairlady Z 300ZX, Fairlady Z, Sivia K's, Silvia spec -R, Skyline R32(R33,R34), Clio V6, Viper GTS '02, Cobra 427, Cobra Daytona, Impreza '05, Suzuki Cappuccino, TVR Tamora, Tuscan, Toyota 2000GT, Celica Rally '95, Castrol Supra '96, Supra '88, Volkswagen 1200 '66, Golf IV GTI ............are just some standards that were upgraded to premiums so the fans can hope for the others to upgrade in the future.

The standard resolution of the cars is not acceptable for us fans(we just tolerate it) and we all agree that standards should deserve the same treatment as the other cars do. We mostly agree that the amount of cars is a big isue for the HD gaming and that the drop of the car numbers would be a huge help for the developers to improve other aspects of the game.

Maybe we(standard lovers) are just afraid that we will lose the spirit of GT. The real driving simulator is a badge that GT carry over from the chapter one (and I don't think GT1 was a real driving simulator too.. never did), for me the true spirit was in the experience of driving a car history that the game provide.

In a game there are different factors that makes a game great. The phisics, the graphics, the sounds, the traks and of course the car palette. Now GT is not good at graphics, sounds and phisics(compare to the new games).. if they lose the diversity factor will the amount of traks and other features make the difference with the other games you like to compare with?

I just want you to take a last look to the cars you might lose in GT7. And I'm hoping they will come back in all the glory they deserve. :)

Yeah I know... the standards are really horrible in a photomode.. no mater what... just set your screen at a lowest resolution and you are all good.

Though they have improved the standard cars compared to GT5 so browny points there.
On another note I see you have taken inspiration for your signature from my comments haha!

True, but there still left with no interiors. ;) Can't leave that out, but as always, knowing PD. And yeah, but I was like this since the 1.04 update. I won't be changing unless PD changes, but I doubt it. Oh, I'm at it again, haha. :P

Okay, so like I've downloaded a Legacy Car Pack. Looking at a car that mysteriously used zero functions of the PS3 GPU and wasn't tesselated in the least, I'd see something that looked worse than an Opel Speedster and scratch my head. "Hmm... not gonna do any Photo Mode of you, but I wonder how it drives." And then I'd throw it around the track and most likely love it and keep it. I'd just not be taking any pics of it up close like some have of the truly ugly Standards.

However, most of the pics I have are of Standards, so overall they satisfy me.
