In regards to the obligatory stint on hard tyres, would it not be better to use medium tyres? Although personally, I think that if we force a hard/medium tyre stint then the races should be longer but that's just me.

Nah, stick with hard and soft tyres, there isn't much difference between the soft and medium tyres that I've noticed. ;)

It's actually something I wanted to do for the first season. We'll get loads of time to test it out before the second season at least :)

Hard damage is quit frustrating. I played a season with DWS. Got damaged every race due to overtaking lapped peoples. Frustrating...
What good is, you learn to play an hour without making many mistakes, because you don't want to damage the car.
But overall it's a game and we want to have fun. So for me no hard damage please.

As Joey already told: not much diff between soft and medium. Hard - soft is approximately 3-4 secs slower.
I would prefer if everybody has to use a steering wheel, no controllers also.

You can't enforce a rule that would cost people some money. I can't be a very good student if I'm buying playstation accessories willy-nilly.

The whole point of being a student is to spend money :sly:

Some people are actually pretty good with controllers though, it would be pretty hard and unfair to make people use steering wheels to be honest.

i agree, but i am just wondering. what wheel or controller do you guys use?

what wheel or controller do you guys use?

I'm using the Logitech Driving Force GT with a home made stand I mount to my living room table so I get the wheel where I want it. pedals are just on the floor.

I do at the moment rebuild my office and one of the extra bedrooms in the house so my girlfriend can move out of the office and into her "own" room, then I'm going to build a racing corner in the office. I bought a extra PS3, a extra TV and are searching for a racing seat. Then I'm going to build my own console. I will post a link to some pictures when I start on it if you are interested :)
I guess I do first season from my living room, but I do hope I'm done before season 2 starts :)

And what are you using yourself?

Arkano i see NurrburgringGP is a "endurance" now :grumpy:
annyway we go for tripple points too?:sly:

Yup, it's an endurance race now! :) I still need to update the number of laps though (should be 40 iirc).

Double or triple points is an interesting idea, depends what everyone else thinks about it really. I don't see the point to be honest, but that's just me :P

I'm using the old Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Clamped onto my PC desk with the PS3 hooked up to PC monitor in my bedroom.

i wasn't serious 👍

my setup has got to be the most, uh.....how should I put it.....ghetto you will ever find.

I have a nice garden chair paired with a Logitech g25 mounted on an ironing board.

oh and I always race in just my boxers. Picture that if you will ;)

I'm surprised your ironing board hasn't melted yet, your G25 is like an oven apparently :P

I use pad so don't ban them!

Broken brake pedal plus nothing to put my DFGT on stops me using it.

Its a bit of a disadvantage on tracks like Monza with the chicanes as it just won't do direction changes fast enough!

I work full time but remember I live in the UK so we get paid peanuts and my place of work? Bombardier - who have just been screwed by our own government so I will be out of a job soon.

Can't afford new wheel.

To Netherdragon, I like ghetto solutions :) especially when they work and obviously it do. Way to go and plus for creative thinking :)

To Phil, Sorry to hear that. Hope you get your self a new job.

Since we are in the sharing our hardware to the world moment, I was wondering what you guys use to playback the sound. And what your experience with it.

I use my home theatre with DTS sound from my ps3, but when I move my racing to my office I can't afford a new home cinema system. And I don't seem to have room for it either. So I was thinking about a headset.
When playing with 5.1 sound system I have no problem to hear where other cars around me are so it would be great if some of you have experience with the use of headset's and share their experience.

Things I like to know are:

Brand name of your product
How do they feel on your head after 1-2 hours (honest opinion)
Is it easy to localise where sounds are coming from
Do it sound realistic (a lot of bass isn't realistic in my world)
How is it powered , if I have to use yet another USB plug to charge it I have a problem :)

EDIT:

I just use my TV sound :P I actually have the sound turned down somewhat so that I can hear people through the headset. I once had a pair of 5.1 Dolby Headphone Astros A30's, but I returned them because they most certainly were not worthy of the £200 that I paid for them. Although it has to be said that Dolby 5.1 is mightily impressive.

Occasionally I will use my Denon D2000 stereo headphones, I love them so much. Although to be honest I don't actually use the game sound to work out where cars are around me, if I'm alongside someone in a corner, nine times out of ten I'll exactly where they are simply from the line they took, even if I can't see them on screen. I guess that's what racing addiction does to you :sly:

Sorry to hear about that Phil.

I have a Sony 5.1 home theatre setup with the PS3. It's DTS compatible. I can hear the cars around me and with the NSX i can actually hear the engine behind me because NSX is a mid engine car.

I have a 5.1 surround system which supports PCM 5.1, Dobly Digital 5.1 and pro logic and DTS 5.1 but I rarely use it while playing games, I only really use it when watching movies. When gaming it's mostly the TV speakers.

No, it was something I found on another forum when I searched for the wheel stand Arkano said he had :)
just found it quite funny :)

Arkano, I can also see where people are going to be by looking at their line. But if I can see their line it's no problem. It's the guys behind me I want to hear :) Their line is just a bit harder to figure out through the mirror.

And I guess you have more experience in online racing than me :) this is after all my first online championship

EDIT: None of my tv's even have speakers!!

softs are actually more diff than you think....i've been doing 1:53:992 in a stock yellowhat tomica in softs wheras i've been doin 1:58s on mediums....this is around suzuka....

I use my TV-sounds. They are excellent. But i am planning to buy a headset for online. I can't hear what people say. I have to turn down my TV becaus other people are sleeping while i race. and the fan(s) of my T500 are sometimes very loud.

I certainly recommend that everyone buys a PS3 headset of some kind. Being able to talk via voice during a race is both fun and great for wheel-to-wheel racing.

So I take it this is closed now? Could I sign up for next season or somthin?

The signups are closed yes, although you are 100% free and welcome to sign up for all the races that will occur after our last race next weekend in advance, and to spectate our last two races if you wish :)
