Skippy is awesome. I own both Mustang and Skippy. Currently I spend much more time in the Skippy since there is nothing like it in any other sim / arcade racing game I've seen. It's such a challenge to keep on the road tho when u 1st hop into it...

Like he says above u can buy both cars since both series seem to share a lot of the tracks. That was my plan for this season. I went Watkins glen, mid ohio, New Hampshire, & Road America. + both cars

Stock chassis that are lightened and given body kits and rollbars are able to handle 300 HP no problem. But with 500 HP it just doesn't. It would be much too soft and lofty. So they have to open the regs more for the teams to be able to first put out 500 hp then to make a chassis that is able to handle it. It makes perfect sense to me.

What you are talking about has absolutely nothing to do with the horsepower..

GT1 cars have as much horsepower, and even more the GT500 back a few years, like the Vette we have in game. and they are not as open in regulations.
GT2/ALMS has near 500 horsepower and they are also very close to stock cars compared to GT500.

The only single reason GT500 is so open is because the organizers want it.
It has absolutely nothing to do with how much horsepower the cars have.

I think we're both confused. So lets just leave the conversation. It really doesn't matter. At this point it's just useless for either of us to argue as we are probably clogging up this thread with nonsense.

I'm assuming the special bonus $15 iRacing credits doesn't expire til after today (Sept 23rd)? I was thinking of buying some content as well so hoping I'll still qualify

Ok cool I was only missing one track from this Skippy season, Mosport International Speedway, so pulled that down along with the Riley Prototype + Star Mazda 👍

Well I decided to get the skippy. Along with two of the final tracks of the season.

God is this thing hard to keep on track!? As soon as one wheel touches the dirt, out I spin! Tons of oversteer too!

There probably will be a way to combat this by changing the setup, bit I've never done that before so don't want to make it worse!

Some other good news, managed to get my oval rating up near the 2.4 mark! Had one race with a +0.50ish. It was stupidly high I know that. Depending on how much time I put in this weekend I could maybe get a promotion in both disciplines.

Just played this at a game show, but it was hooked up to a triple screen 3D setup on a D-Box motion simulator. Oh my god it was so unbeleivably amazing! The motion sim was utterly phenominal, they gave us the Dallara Indy Car on Brands Hatch GP, I went off the track at paddock and it felt like my boens were being shaken out of my body! My stomach actually dropped over the hills. Incredible feeling and it looks stunning in 3d.

Good choice! Yes it's quite tricky to drive but quite fun when you start to get the hang of it. I haven't fully yet, but it gets better. A good tip is to read in the Skippy section of the forum here, lot and lot and lots of great tips on how to drive it and set it up. They even have a very easy to use Skippy setup guide.

Sounds amazing, I can imagine it doesn't get more immersive than that!

Yeah make sure to read the Skippy forums for tips. Lots to learn! I had the same problem with keeping it on the track. Finally gave up on practicing on Lime Rock and moved on to other maps and had much better luck. Still much to learn.

MildAshers that motion sim sounds very awesome wish they had something like that around here

So after testing and some time trialing at Okayama Short for the past couple days, I finally ran my first ever race, and....

I won :) Okay so it was a pole to chequered flag deal, but I had zero incidents, had to lap a few back markers, and got a haul of +0.27 safety rating bringing me to 2.99 overall.

Congratulations on the win. The best I had was a 3rd place. I'm just not quick enough to compete with the front runners.

Currently using a DF:GT set, very happy with the wheel, but I do wonder, would I be faster with a proper shifter and pedals? So I actually use a clutch instead of the auto one? Changing gear is some where I know I'm going wrong.

Auto clutch gives a time penalty I believe, have you tried button clutching to see if it helps? I think better pedals might help, I know my DFP pedals weren't that great, especially the brake, which I find makes a huge difference in Netkar and iRacing. I've just modded my G25 pedals with a homemade nixim mod, which helps, but definitely hearing that Clubsports or better are the way to go for consistancy. I think the wheel itself is okay, maybe look into CSPs and a shifter if you really feel you're losing a lot of time.

I haven't tried button clutching, didn't want to over complicate my hands, tbh, I forget to change gear sometimes so using a button as well would be a disaster.

Recently I have been looking into the Fanatec range of wheels/pedals. I too have read good things about the CSP set. Luckily for me, my birthday is close to Christmas so a nice big joint present would be nice :). If not, will just club together what ever money I get and invest in pedals and shifter combo.

And maybe sometime in the (very far) future I may upgrade to a Fanatec ClubSport wheel, that looks amazing!

That is awesome! It takes most people a LONG time to get their first win. Zero incs too!

It takes most people a long time to realize that no incs is the best way to get results. Work on speed during practice and then go only fast enough in the race to keep it clean, and push only when you have to. The race results, safety rating and licenses come on their own. :)

Thanks man. The aim really was just to get through with no incidents irrespective of position, I even considerered starting from the pits even though I was on pole. As they say the goal of a rookie is to get out of the rookie class.

I'm happy to say I won my second race too, it was really good fun to have to keep up and retake the lead in that one . As someone who always really been a hotlapper, and ultra competitve, I've honestly been afraid of ruining other's races, but I think iRacing really has the consequences dialied in nicely to go racing and learn at the same time.

Anyone on the fence about getting iRacing, I'd say go for it, there's a lot more scope for competition than you might believe, no matter your skill, and not as daunting as you probably think.

You should be really happy efter your nexr race. If you get a + safety rating you will jump up to over 3.50. I think after you pass the 3 mark it moves you up 50 plus you rating from the race.

Moves you up .40 once you hit a whole number, it also adds to that whatever you earned in the race. So it could go up around .50.

I'm so close to my oval promotion - just need .04!

Yesterday I was having clean race after clean race, getting .07+ each time. Today, I've had afew races getting around .03 and .04.

Why is it when you want a clean race, there's tons of accidents! Some people really do need to learn how and when to join a track!

I'll admit though, at one point I was guilty of that. Now though, I wait for the best opportunity.

*edit - Does anybody know the time of the rookie upgrades?

Cheers Cauchy, I already knew that though, hence why I've been hammering the oval's this weekend.

Will be promoted from both road and oval rookies. :)

I just wondered what time of day the promotions happen.

I was just doing some TT in the Mazda and the most laps that would show up was 3. My Best out of would just keep resetting after 3????

Did you have any incidents?
Because, any type of incident will reset the lap count.

Edit, just looked at your results page, and in that time trial you had some discontinuity, so the laps didn't count.

yea the problem is when i got up to 3 laps without incident it would rest. I kept trying but it would keep doing that. I even slowed down to make sure I didn't get any incidents but it still kept resetting

I just sent ya a friend request. I took a look at your stats. Wow, you're really good man. Your iRating is looking very nice. 👍

I'm worried if I do the races my iRating will drop very low. And in a few months when I get good it will be very hard to pull it up. So I've been mostly sticking to TTs and Practice sessions with the occasional race to mix it up
