Hey guys. I have been hearing a bit about iracing here and there for some time now. Over the past few days I finally took a hard look at it. While there are many opinions about iracing in general and how it compares to GT5 floating around the net and even gtplanet, I'd like to get some input from reliable racers such as yourselves. (Also I don't have the time or money to try iracing out right now because of school and I'm too impatient to wait until January to find out if I'll like it. Most of what I have seen and read about iracing has gotten me very excited to play it.)

I race using decent homemade cockpit with G27. I am planning to modify my pedals in the near future, including a load cell for the brake. I spend virtually all my GT5 playtime either racing in races organized on this forum or practicing for said races. I have no interest in racing against GT5's AI. GT5 is my first experience with racing and I've been playing fairly consistently since its release. I love participating in gtplanet's online series (like Mule's Integra series, Wardez's Corvette series).

Based all of this, do you think me and iracing will be a good match?

Yes, I definitely think so. If your looking for adrenalin racing with other guys who know what they're doing. Then you've come to the right sim. I've used real life experience and translated it into the game with ease. It's the best thing you can get, aside from the simulators that formula 1 teams use.

I wouldn't suggest modifying your G27 pedals. I think it would be much cheaper if you just purchased Clubsport pedals.

Thanks for the reply. It has already helped put my excitement at ease until I can get a chance to play it. :)
I will definitely give it a shot.

I don't want to drag this thread too far off topic, but regarding your clubsport recommendation, the reviews on this $160 G27 pedal mod are very positive. It includes an increased throw distance for all three pedals, new clutch spring, and load a load cell for the brake. From what I've seen this is a good option.

Thanks again.

iRacing is fantastic for clean racing!

also, there are a couple of "hidden" offers (i call them "hidden" only because they are not actively promoted) for new subscribers.
$6 for 1 month or $49 for one year

Just had a blast around Suzuka in the Williams F1 car for a few laps. First impressions.... Wish there was a decent setup to be found for the car, i'm no setup guru and the setups i've seen have been understeer city. I used one of my old high downforce silverstone setups for it, which is hardly ideal but worked better than others i'd tried.

Currently lapping in the high 1:32's to 1:33's. Degnar one is the most horrible corner, you even look at the curb and the car will go flying into the wall, definitely more punishing that real life in that respect, i ran about 40mins worth of laps and i'd say near half of them I put the car into the wall and about half the times I put it in the wall it was from trying to take my usual line clipping the curb on degnar 1.

Bah! Good fun though all the same, it's been a few weeks since i touched iRacing with other games, notibly F1 2011 coming out, but I might give this race a try this weekend.

I just love Spa!

cool! I am hoping to give the Suzuka F1 race a try depending on my schedule (I will likely be in the lowest of the low splits! haha)

Same here Patrocles! Hope it all goes well for me and I can keep the car on the road for the whole race!

I really need to subscribe to this game again. I let my account lapse because F1 2011 was coming out soon, and then I barely played that because the PC version doesn't work well with the Logitech DFGT.

@omgitsbees, that's why I just purchased that 1 year subscription promo for 25% off +$25 iRacing credits. Seemed like a decent deal. Seems like they run a lot of promos that grants credits. I'm going to be up to $40 in iRacing credits alone (funny thing is I dont need to spend any of my credits since I'm doing rookie/advanced-rookie stuff atm)

And yeah I am just testing out F1 2011 on the PS3.... disappointed I cant control my f1 car in the pits. One thing f1 2011 does have over iRacing the pit mechanics are awesome eye candy. I want for iRacing to get pit mechanics too to add more depth visually & life to it. I know its pure fluff but I'm trying to get my friends to get into this game and things like that impress the crap out of people. I showed him an iRacing NASCAR stream and he thought it was a real race til the guy pitted and just hovered in mid air while invisible mechanics fixed his car lol

Same here Hampus! Hopefully it'll be a better car to drive than the Ford(wich is officially dead now), but I think a Porche Cup car would've been a better choice. Not complaining at all, just saying...

Yeah, that sucks... I think is about time for iRacing to start going away from Spec racing and adding a bit of diversity per class, V8 Supercars would be the obvious choce as a start.

Watching the live streaming of the Suzuka WC right now, I hope Hugo Luis manage to get the title. I was talking to him and some other guys on TeamSpeak this week and he's a cool guy, very down to earth.

Glad you liked it. 👍

Make sure you are using the right FOV for your monitor and the distance you are from it. That makes a good difference in how you handle the corners.
