Yeah, the Skip is very tricky. I did a race with it in Suzuka last week but I had to practice a lot before racing since I was away from it for a while. It's like you have to relearn how to drive the damn thing, it's a very different style of driving compared to other cars.

It was a fun race though, wish I had more time to race with it.

Yeah it's quite twitchy and only seems to like very smooth movements. Make quick steering movements to avoid someone and you're going to spin it.

I've just finished another race in in the skippy, and the stupid driving continues. I was in leading in first, with only 1 off track inc, until with 3 laps to go a back marker decides to brake a slow to a crawl (litterally) at the apex of Dunlop, which is a fairly fast blind crest corner and I had no chance of not hitting him at the speed and line I was on. It seems I spend almost as much time in the pits as I do on track with this car, it's getting really annoying.

Can anyone recommend a stable car in a good series with clean drivers?

Yeah my favorite series (Grand Am) can get dirty too. Maybe you'll have better luck in the Star Mazda Championship since its' quite a bit more stable than that Skippy. Note: almost any Class C car and beyond is much more stable than the skippy. I'd dare say Skippy is the most unstable car in the game. I recall getting wrecked badly at New Hamp last season too while I was giving someone the inside lane on Turn 1

Q: I wasn't planning on moving on to Prototype & GT (Class B) til next season. However, chances are the next race or two will toss me over Class B 4.0 SR. So what happens when I met the MPR for Class B? Will I be automatically fast tracked into Class A?

My concern is that I'll accumulate over 4.99 in my current class and the leftover SR points will go to waste. so let's say I go all the way to Class B 4.99 before promotion. I'm assuming 4.99 is a hard cap and any points earned after will be discarded

I'll try searching the iRacing knowledge base for this but stuff like this can be hit and miss with their documentation

[edit] According to the Knowledge base I'll be fast tracked to the next license level in this case after I've met my MPR. Looks like SR does cap at 5.0 tho

Yeah I think so because a lot of drivers are stuck at Class A with 4.99 SR. They can only go Pro from there and that's for a limited number of drivers I think.

I may be wrong, but from my understanding sr is not hard capped, it just simply stops displaying the true value if it is over 4.99. I have not tested this though, but I remember reading some posts on the iracing forums stating this.

OT: Has anyone here tried the Game Stock Car, by Reiza Studios, that was released a few months back? It's based on rFactor I believe and it contains the cars and tracks used in the Brazilian Stock Car series.

I ask this because last night I was watching a live stream of a race on that game and it seemed really fun. But what made the race even more exciting were the drivers participating, including F1's Felipe Massa and Rubens Barrichello, and iRacing's F1 champion Hugo Luis. There were some other Brazilian real race drivers too.

Hugo dominated the race but I was very impressed with Massa's performance, he started in 19th and finished in 4th. Why doesn't he do this in F1?!

I downloaded the 30 minutes trial of this game over a month ago but I always forget to test it. Will try it this week.

Thanks Cauchy. I searched the forums for that after I saw your post and it turns out this is the case:

- Once you reach 4.99 in any license class, your SR will seemingly not advance anymore. Your CPI however still does. Should you advance a license level or have a few bad races you will still benefit from the invisible "buffer" above 4.99 you have accrued.

Pretty good read I never read up on SR before

@livemusic, I tried the demo when it was released. I enjoyed it but I never got around to buying it. I've never seen those races on TV over here. They do look very cool. Maybe one of these days I'll toss some cash their way cause I really respect the studio and I'm a fan of the track builders on the team (they've done great work for rFactor)

can someone please tell me what are average lap times with the hpd at suzuka?
with the new model i cant seem to get below 1.47.5. prior to the update i was running 1.44.5 times ?!?!

would also appreciate if someone has a suzuka setup for the hpd with the new model?

I'll look into it Friday. I know that they slowed the top speed of the car by a good mph or two. So it may be because of that.

Just an update on how i'm doing in the Prototype and GT standard and fixed series.

Standard;
-10th in my division (have not run this week yet, so I expect to move up a few positions)
-Leading divisions time trial (again have not run this week)
-2 Wins
-3 Top 5's

Fixed;
-9th in my division (failed to run first week, so I expect to move up with drops)
-1 Win
-3 Top 5's

I'd say i'm doing fairly well!

Yes I think you are doing well too. I'm currently at the top of my division in Grand Am as well. But I'd attribute that more to everyone else being major slackers in my division. I'm currently leading for both time trials and races atm. Overall though I have progressed up towards 55th. My first week in this series was rough at Daytona so hopefully I'll get the chance to drop it which might help as I improve

don't immediately race, i would suggest practicing in the official practice sessions first just to get used to the sim and to get comfortable with the car. That's pretty much all I can think of. Aside from welcome to the best sim on the market, and read all of the guidelines as well. Will help you out a lot.

Ok thanks! Apperciate it!

Hey i was wondering what i can use to design my car.?

If you want high quality you'll use gimp or photoshop. If you want really high quality, like i do, you'll use illustrator to create everything then port it to photoshop.

paint works though if you don't really care about quality.

For anyone wanting to extend, sign-up, or renew their membership, now is probably the time to do it. Thursday thru Sunday 1 year membership only $49.👍

Mine doesn't expire till September of 2012, but I'll be going ahead and adding another year with it being half off. I don't see a year membership getting any cheaper than that. Its also nice that everyone can use it, not just new sign-ups or something like that.

Say goodbye to your friends and family - it may be some time before they see you again. :)

But seriously, I agree, take it slowly and don't rush into a race. Start off in offline practise, to get used to the physics, and then go into online practise. Take it slowly and drive as if it is a real car - i.e. try and not crash. In practise sessions your Safety Rating is not affected if you crash but when you get in to races it will be so you are preparing for that. Perhaps take part in some Time Trials where you are alone on the track but your Safety Rating is affected - so it gets you used to safe (!) driving. It's also a good idea to read through the various documents on the website explaining how iRacing works as it'll make a lot more sense then.

Get a 12 month subscription for only $49 over the next four days if you use code PR-BFEM. Open to current and past subscribers. Just done this myself and I'm now signed up until 9/2013 👍

Hey fella's im praying that tommorow is the day that i join iracing! Um if u want u can drop me a message telling me ur e-mail and ill put u as my referal. Idk how many u can do but first come first serve!

Yeah you can get alot of help in practice sessions. I still do practice sessions all the time. People sometimes share setups, tips, etc. Don't be afraid to enable voice chat during practice sessions.

Don;t forget to hit F3 so you can see if someone is approaching. I have the 'next blackbox' button bound on my wheel.

Be careful using those driver aids like 'Auto Clutch' it can cause ya to loose straight line speed :ill:

If you're not super fast don't lose heart. Sometimes you can hit podium just by surviving. The last race where I claimed 2nd place I think I was a whole 3 seconds or so behind the 'leading time' but I beat many people because I was quick enough, more consistent, and perfectly clean.

Going to build a PC. Then I'm going to get into the iRacing run! Hope to see you guys on the track soon!

Started practicing with the SRF at the modified Sebring circuit yesterday as I'll be racing it next tuesday. New track for me but I liked it. Only did about 15 laps so there's still a lot of time to improve. Here's a video of a hotlap I made:

Holla at me Crispy when you get signed up it will be great to have ya :dopey:

I tried out the SRF at Lime Rock for a handful of laps. I highly respect people that can drive that car very fast. I would really need to take my time with the car to learn how to properly keep her on the road

Yeah, the balance on them is really confusing. Between understeer, snap oversteer, and then understeer on throttle.

Definitely! We will both be running our "weapons" there.

I definitely want to get into the MX-5 at first. Then venture onto GT cars and the LMP's. Which should I go for, buying all the cars first, buying the tracks first, or getting a mix of both?

Just buy the tracks you're gonna need first, and buy the cars as you progress on your license. I'd say buy the LMP or the W31 so you get a taste for the speed of the really fast cars!

I just had a look at your racing history. I see you've had some trouble but darn man no one can touch your speed. Not even close. Give it a few more races? I wish I had your speed you're a natural. Seriously I wonder if you're some sort of alien I just double checked. Every race you set the top time. Maybe you need to slow down perhaps so you can more easily spot the unstable wreckers? I can't even imagine what it must be like to have your speed.

did u get a chance on that already?

oops! sorry, give me about 30 minutes and I'll let you know what I find

*edit*

Used the fixed setup with full fuel. Second lap ran a 46.5 and third was a 45.505

So the times I don't think were effected that much. Replay will be below. If you want a setup really badly just ask and i'll see what I can do. But be specific what kind of characteristics you want the car to have ;D

Actually, if you want the replay you'll have to PM me your email. It's over the 2mb limit :D
