imho the iRacing forums are poorly moderated. So some threads get out of control but the subforums dedicated to specific series can have some cool community to them. Mainly I look through the Radical and Lotus 79. While slow they are friendly enough.

It's also not that well organized and the search function leaves a lot to be desired. All this may be why we are all here on GTP discussing iRacing. Thanks for the tips.

Skippy normally requires a lift to shift, or you can hold the shifter back and let it bounce off the limiter into the next gear on upshifts.

Thanks.
I now realized I can find the shifting info for each car in its subforum.

Question:
Are Silverstone and Zandvoort popular tracks? I initially registered for 1 month for $5 to try it out and now I'm going to create a new, permanent account. If both tracks are not super popular then I'll probably go with the 12 months for $49 promo.

My iRacing week has so far consisted of the Intel GT Series Regional finals for the Australasian region. Currently sitting 3rd in the points so that should comfortably keep me in the top 20. It's been awesome racing against some of the best sim racers Australia has such as Luke McLean, Ben Cornett, Danny Davison, Darren Marsh and several others. Not everyday you get to have a fight with some DWC stars so i've loved every second of it. The idea of course is to try and get to the world final which is definitely possible, but beating the european guys will be difficult (Greger, Klaus, Hugo etc).

Hotlap being uploaded overnight, managed to hit a 2:02.0 on the fixed setup in qualifying (only a few hundredths off what McLean did :D).
Cool, I plan on participating during the South American Regional finals in February. Is it fixed setup?

BTW, Hugo is Brazilian.

anyone know if you can jump between two classes in one promotion period if your SR rating is high enough? or is there a huge difference in points between say Rookie and Class C?

You can complete the MPR to upgrade your license, then get the SR up to 4.0 to get the new license right away. After that you just need to complete the MPR to the new license and get your SR above 3.0 before the end of the season.

It's fixed setup livemusic. ;) Setup isn't too bad, but definitely has it's downfalls.

Just hoping I can make the Regional finals, apparently ours is in 2 days time.... (2 days before christmas). I'm working that night so I won't be able to do it. All the region is protesting against it to try and get it in January. I think it would make a lot more sense to be in the new year but that's just me....

another question, in my MPR it lists road/oval and the requirements, do i HAVE to race oval as well? i really have no desire to whatsoever, can i progress by only racing road courses?

If you just want to improve your road license, that is all you need to race to improve it. Many road racers have a very high road license and a rookie oval license because they don't like oval.

So just race whatever discipline you want. 👍

Depends on the series you a run in. In Radical and Lotus they are used a lot. If I were you, just go and check out the series track schedules that you are interested in and see what adds up as a better deal.

The cost of tracks adds up fast once you are out of rookie. But once you own them, you own them. I spent a little time seeing where I wanted to go and how I would get there. Then I purchased the content that fit that plan. I so love learning new tracks and the tracks in iRacing are so amazing I have a few others that I don't need too :)

Just got fasttracked out of the rookie road license. I'm pretty pleased with myself right now. :)

I'll probably pretty much skip the D class series; nothing really interests me there. For those of you C class and above, what series are most populated/most fun to drive?

I essentially went from rookie to Radical and absolutely love it. Not the most populated, limited race schedule, but according to the form folk participation is increasing. I have no idea how it compared to the other C level series though.

@TheBook, indycar fixed is Class C and insanely populated. try that one. I've just started practicing. Only stank thing it's every other week.

Above that, there's Prototype & GT which is all the rage cause all the cars are on NTM. I've been doing the fixed portion of that one lately.

Star mazda is popular as well.

Class D skippy series is popular as well, easy to modify (almost as cool as a fixed setup), and i think you got a full repair if you wreck in Class D? Like yourself I basically tracked right up to Class C so if I have a bad wreck it's lights out (* I did do one or two races in the Skippy before moving on tho). Unfortunately myself I don't much care for the actual cars in Class D

If you guys don't mind, I'd like for you guys to download this paint scheme here. If I remembered my Tradingpaints password, I would upload it there.

Congrats, Mad94d!

Thanks guys. Now just gotta try and come top 8 in the regional final. By the way, it is January 7th 9pm AEST (GMT +11). So that would be early morning for most of you. ;)

I think I need promoted.

What's everyone's favorite Class D car?

I like the Skippy too but I don't own the Mustang nor the Jetta.

Just bought the HPD with the credits I got last night. :)

nice! the SOF is low for your race so you could also increase your IR to race in higher splits. The fast lads in the higher splits usually run lap times in the low 1:01s!
:)

The skippy is a lot of fun and a good start for moving up the open-wheel classes.

The jetta is a blast! Fun car and good tracks (imho, ymmv) However, the grand touring cup is not so popular iirc so there are fewer races.

I do not race the Mustang. It feels like I am driving on ice! LOL If I get a handle on the less-touchy skippy I may revisit the mustang car.

I do not run in any oval racing series.

good luck in whatever series you run!
:)

I ran the MX-5 at Sebring last night in the GT Cup, and it was an absolute blast. I honestly don't much like the Jetta, for some reason. Haven't driven the 'Stang yet, and the Skippy has a pretty big learning curve—you don't just hop in and be fast. Mostly, you hop in and spin out a lot.

I wouldn't buy a car just yet, try the MX5 on the Grand Touring series and fast track it to C!! That way you can buy the Riley wich is a real fun car to drive! The Mustang is nice and a lot of fun but not everyone likes it! You will always find a race with the Mustang as almost all of them go official.

On another note, how tha hell did 3rd place managed to gain so much SR with 11 incidents!!!

Edit: 58 car LMP/GT1/GT2 endurance race:

You can still register for a resserve spot!

If you look at his total SR, 11 incidents might be decent for him. The SR system works on a system that remembers your last 20 or so races and recycles them as you get more races. So 20 races ago he might have had even more incidents which are now no longer counted.

I'm not sure if that makes sense, sorry, I couldn't think of a better way to explain it.

Lol!! Yeah, unfourtunately for the higher license levels if you get 4 incidents you can forget about getting any SR!

I can recommend the Ford Mustang. Its lota fun to race these!

I 2nd this one. Haven't raced it in a while, but its fun. This car is a love/hate kinda thing though. This car definitely teaches you to use the throttle in moderation without being too fast. Which is good because the V8, Vette, Ford Gt all require a disciplined throttle foot.

Keep in mind though, the Mustang isn't on the NTM yet. This car will probably change dramatically after it like the others have. Most likely for the better, but may require some relearning after NTM.

Hmm. I'm probably gonna spend a little time with the Solstice/SRF multiclass series after this last week in the Miatas and get more comfortable with those before I go buying anything. Mustang is high on my list. I'm a little more interested in GT racers than open wheeled, though I will definitely get the Skip after the Mustang, or something like that. Haha.

It looks to me like the most cost effective way to play iRacing is to pick a series to run in and stick with it through its season, and buy each track the week you need it? I've heard there's a discount for buying multiple items though, so perhaps buying the next three tracks or something like that would be the best.
