I have been looking at joining iRacing and was wondering about new membership sign up bonus's like bonus codes. Where do you find current codes? I know that I will start out as a novice squid but I was wondering what options I should go for? I have a Miata in real life and I saw what looks like a MX5 is in the starter pack so I think I have that base covered. Any other direction would be of great help before I sign up, thankzzz........ Stick with the free rookie cars for as long as you can while still having fun. Don't go out and buy a bunch of cars and tracks while you are still getting a feel for the game. Many people end up not liking heaving because of how difficult it is and how serious people take it. Much of the same reason why millions choose Call of Duty over ArmA 2.

Yeah try to stick with rookie content til you get promoted. dont forget bout advanced rookie content too which is free.

It's cheaper to buy in groups of 3 to 6.... Try to get a friend to join too so you can get referral bonuses and get some stuff free too. This way you can tryout some fast cars and get a taste for some speed.

Honestly I wouldn't have done tthe most recent upgrade if it wasn't for the deal I got. A friend of mine in retail set me up with the projectors for $300 each, paying about $12 for the plywood for my screens, and $3 for 2 cans of flat white spray paint. Most people would probably think the quality on that kind of screen will be crap, but I've done it before and most people who see it thinks it looks excellent. Total investment for the upgrade including the custom monitor stand and all shipping costs is about $1200.

The holidays are a great time to buy the stuff you need because of holiday sales. I saw 22" screens for $75 each at our local BX (military base store). I'm sure there are tons of deals out there, I got my 23" screens for $130 each a little while ago. Just watch your local and online retailers for deals. The video card is your second thing to concern yourself with. You could get the same ones I have for about $425 (2x 560 Ti) and Max all settings at 5760x1080 and still make 80-100fps minimum. Or if you like single card setups ATI has solutions for about $300. If you have table space you don't need a monitor stand, otherwise a good one runs around $300 or build yourself one.

Triple screens can be pretty cheap or very expensive depending what you want.

Cool, so you can get into a reasonable setup for a grand or less. I have two problems, the first one being cash and the second being the width of the space my rig sits in. There is enough space for my 32" Vizio, my CPU, and a light, roughly 4'; therefore a proper 3 screen setup will be super tight if not even possible at all due to my space restrictions.

Thanks for the info!!

Just had my first race in the MX5 at Lime Rock. Started on pole, but only just, and went 'off track' twice and totally spun once. Was still 1st at this point and was coming up on a backmarker. I could tell he had no idea what he was doing, so I tried to take him down the straight. I went to the inside, started braking for the first corner and had already cleared him but decided to still stick to the inside. He braked way too late and instead of sticking to his line, turned into the inside lane and hit me. :grumpy:👎 Needless to say I gave the other 3-4 backmarkers later on an even wider birth than I thought was required for the first lunatic. :irked:

I was also pretty confused as to what I had to do when I had crossed the line. Can you pull over anywhere and exit as long as it is safe to do so? Anyway, I'm off to qualify again. :)

Ok, the important thing here is gonna be to think of your SR, you already have the speed so you IR will come naturally. SR is your Safety Rating this is a calculation of how many corners you go trough with no incidents and is what's going to earn you your promotion. Everytime you get into an incident SR is taken from you and for every race with no or little number of incidents you get SR.
Once you cross the finish line your SR is still counting, I normally do a cool down lap to the pits to get some more free SR. You can just park it and leave the track or you can do what I do and go arround to the pits, completely up to you. Now if you decide to park it just find a spot off line or offtrack so you can safely quit. Keep in mind that offtracks count towards your SR down to 10 MPH, so make sure to slow down sufficiently before going offtrack.

oh wow, i never knew that your SR still counts after the race is down and that you can earn more by doing an outlap... !

I usually drive slowly through the first turn of the track, then come to a complete stop and leave the race event

It counts till the last driver has crossed the finish line, once you see the timer reset to 15 minutes everyone has finished and it's stopped counting.

I didn't know that either. I've done some very stuipd things once the checkered flag comes out... I guess I am a fragile racer lol

Stupid question that has bothered me - when I see the checkered flag (and I'm not 1st) do I need to finish the race lap? Or does the checkered flag indicate final standing based on where I am that moment?

Checkered means your race is over, you can just stop or go the exra lap but you won't make any possitions from it just the extra corners for SR.

I think this will be my new approach as to what I do after a race, at the moment I normally find a nice quiet spot and just stop. I suppose there is no harm in slowly coming driving to the pits and stopping there. One thing's for sure, no body will 'bump' into you by accident in the pits.

Ah, iRacing, how I missed you. After hardly playing for a couple of months trying other games I've come back, and had 6 good races in the last three nights. Not that I wasn't taken out foolishly a couple of times, but I could have avoided the incident had my racing instincts been sharper and I still worked my way back for decently placed finishes.

I think what I enjoy most, is that consistency and perseverance is rewarded. An incident free race will almost always give a decent result, regardless of your actual speed.

This is what I love too. I rarely win but certainly enjoy the race and the rewards that come with actually finishing it! :)

This really confused me the first few races. Even after existing the track I wasn't sure if I could leave the room while cars were still running lol.

Good tip on the cool down lap to get more SR.

I got my first top-split victory today at lime rock in the MX-5. It was an intense battle right up to the last lap. It was even sweeter because a wrecker from earlier in the day that I mixed words with and reported cracked under the pressure I put on him and crashed to give up the lead to me hehe.
Justice has been served. 👍

Glad to see you guys are doing good! Hopefully we will be able to have a good sized field for our future events!
Last night was horrible for me! Entered the Grand Touring Cup race at 9:15 US EST, started from the pits to avoid the pile up. First couple of turns went ok as I cautiously worked my way trough 3 wrecks, as I'm working my way trough turn 5 and 6 a wreck in front of me,I slow down to avoid them and came trough with no contact, but the MORON behind didn't slow down, he kept the foot down even though the smoke clowd was covering the whole track. Then Wham! The moron slams into me fro 1.5 seconds back right into my back bumper, and I get a BS 4x as a result! I keep going working my way trough more wrecks having to take it to the greass in a few ocations costing me 4 additional 1x, some other lapped moron decides he wants to race the leader and gives me another pair of 0x, the the biggest surprise, the guy I was racing a B licensed guy makes a very stupid mistake on turn 2 and dives bomb me after changing his mind, he braked and then let go off the brakes and got into my front right causing me another couple of 0x and gving me a nice alignment of about -65 degrees of camber and taking me out of the race with 15 minutes to go and no chance of making any SR back. When the race was done all this stupid 0x's had costed me almost a full SR point! Yes they do count against your SR, from B 3.29 going in I was left at B 2.56. I'm still pissed about this BS race and all of my hard work going down the drain thank's to a bunch of morons not paying attention.

Wow that hurts. How many inc was it total?

Oh man it was horrible! Only 2 incidents of my making the rest was the 4x I got from being rear ended and a bunch of 0x ammounting to 13 incidents, -61 IR and -71 SR!! Definitely the worst race I've ever had in terms of losses.

The 0x indicates that you had a incident, but it was not serious enough to give you a reduction in SR.

So they say, but still I get deductions from them all the time(yes I get the bottom split 99% of the time).

0x shouldn't give you an incident.... If you get multiple 0x in a race you won't get any incidents and will gain SR at the end of the race. Maybe incidents in warm up Jav? Not sure on that one...

EDIT: Not as bad as a loss for me Jav.... Did a rookie race the other day at 2am in the morning. Lost -0.83 SR and -110 iR.... The beauty of having a high license huh.... :D

I still don't understand the whole 0x thing.

I think the 0x's are there because of the NASCAR series. You'll get them quite a bit at superspeedways when bumpdrafting is the norm. I don't think they count. Or shouldn't. I ran a Silverado race at Talladega a few weeks ago and they didn't count. Just there to show there was contact, but was minimal.

Damn that's bad Mad! Yeah it sucks on the higher licenses...

There might be something wrong with my account because I didn't get any incidents on warmup. Just the 4x from the guy hitting me and 2 1x for dropping tires off. All the rest was 0x. And is not the first time it's happened to me. Every time I get a 0x sure as hell it's on the post race report.
should I get in contact with Nim about this or do you guys think he's just gonna dismiss it with some BS theory?

That race with you was awful today, Mad.

Got a tire off on the outside of turn 1/2 trying to give someone else some space, and did the same between 6/7, running way into the grass and losing a lot of time. And even my clean laps weren't anywhere near my normal pace. Haha. Just wasn't fully in it.

Haha. That was my first rookie race in a while. Managed to make some progress forward with my tyre conservation. Barely fell back into the 1:00's at all so was pretty pleased.

But man, the rookie cars are a lot harder now than what they used to be. It's good, I like it! 👍
