It's that time of year again... And iRacing have just emailed me to beg me to come back for a bargain price :D
I think I might just have to take them up on that offer! :P

I had a bash at the new patch last night, the F1 car seemed the same to me, as did the MX5, though i was surprisingly able to drive the Spec Racer Ford a lot easier than i remember. Can't see anywhere that mentioned the tyre model changing though, i thought that was meant to be in the future, its not in the patch notes.

Yea tyre model comes in the next build hopefully. But i´m sure they have done some tweaking to either the tyres or physics.

Go for it! :) It continues to slowly get even better - more cars, more tracks and greater participation...

They made a change with the suspension damping plus some other physics tweaks across all the cars. The consensus on the iRacing forums are that the changes are a good improvement.

I had my first Star Mazda race this week and it was awesome! The last five laps were a close battle between me and another guy - the best sim racing I have ever experienced and even took 0.7 seconds off my previous lap record.

I see, must be that i´m feeling then. Can´t wait for the real tyre model though. The one we have now is ok or good but you can do some pretty unrealistic things with it.

I´m hoping Day/Night transitions and weather is on the table after the tyre model. It´s a must have in any sim imo.
That´s the good part with laserscanned tracks, the waterpuddles should be formed at the same places as the real track.

Sounds nice! Used to drive the Mazda before Grand Am and i loved that little car. Really liked the feedback from the tyres in hairpins etc.

When your in a dogfight with someone and both race cleanly, the money doesn´t matter. I too have experienced the best racing bar none in Iracing.

I am back into iRacing and I have just completed the MRP to get up to class B. I think I might go for the Corvette as my car of choice.
All I need to do now is get to a SR of 4.00.
I have had some very good battles upon my return especially in the mixed class MX5/Jetta races. Really liking that series atm 👍

I'm loving driving the Mustang in the Grand-AM series at the mo, but not as much this weekend on VIR as it's an awful track.

Got plenty of practice and a good quali and race set-up for the Daytona 500 and just hope to qualify well out of all the rookie splits with the crashes. Although I think my pace is easily good enough.

Damn that's a good promotion 👍
Think I might have to get quite a few of my friends to do this and refer me... :D

Also, does anyone have the list of promotional codes Bookmarked? I don't want to trawl through 24 pages.

Thank you! I'd like to try this
and one question

Can I just connect my DFGT to the computer? I don't feel like going through the site for wheel information, but I'll have to if I still don't know how the iRacing program works lol

Yes you can plug your DFGT directly in your computer and it will download a program that allows you to run it. It works really great, I never had any problems in 3 months of iRacing.

How do you know if you have been given a free month for recommending someone?
Do you get an email or something?

You should receive an email Aldo. If you don't get one it probably hasn't worked. Not sure if a one month sign up works for promotions though. I have a feeling it's only if the new user signs up for 3 months or more.

Ahh ok thanks.
Bit weird that it has that "referred by" bit then if it doesn't actually work!
Can't wait till the V8s hit Spa in a couple of weeks time.
I'll spend most of my time going backwards through gravel pits but it will still be immense fun :P

Yeah. It does work, just not with 1 month sign ups. ;)

The V8 is the most epic car in the game in my opinion. I love it! I won one of the AUS/NZ club league races on the monday night and got on inracingnews so I can't complain.

Just searched for that and you are in the title of the article and everything! Awesome!
I still suck in this thing. For me stringing a few clean laps together is an achievement :P
I am going to start trying out some of Shane Lowery's setups as they seem to be recommended on the iRacing forums.
That car is pretty sweet looking 👍

I wanted to use my Logitech Driving Force Wireless with it and use the paddles for brake and gas. Customer support said only analog can be used for that and she thought that those were digital. Is that true? Since they are not buttons, but variable force, I would think they are considered analog joy sticks.

I would suggest buying NkPro or some other game instead m8.

Having a wireless wheel with the paddles as brake or gas is not ideal which means you would get bored after a while.

Instead, save some money for a real wheel with real pedals so you can enjoy the game to the fullest.

I know i would never in my life spend money on Iracing if i can´t even use the game properly.

Hi all,

I just signed up for iracing and have been enjoying it. My concern, however, is that there does not seem to be a lot of people playing the game. Whenever I'm on, I only see a few dozen people participating in any given cup. On top of that, many of the cups don't seem to have anyone signed up.

My question, then, is how "popular" is iracing these days? Is it worth the money? I really like the game and the feel of the cars is amazing. I, however, am not going to drop the massive amount of money this game demands if there are only a 1,000 people who are really active in this game.

Also, on the note of money, how would you guys recommend I go about purchasing additional cars / tracks? There are over $500.00 worth of additional cars and tracks in this game which, to me, is just insane. Do I really need to spend that much money (which I will not do) to fully enjoy this game or are there only a select few tracks and cars that most people use? Please note, I'm not interested in oval racing. I'm strictly a "road" driver.

Thanks all, I really appreciate the help / advice!

I find that you can normally get a race in the "mainstream" series. Such as Nvidia cup, Grand Am series, Indycar series etc. They're normally fairly popular. But the most races you see are in the US evening, that's when you'll catch the most racers online.

As far as purchasing things go, just the road stuff is probably around $300. But buy tracks such as Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio because they're used in almost every series. Tracks like Barber and Sebring are used less. So just look at what series/s you'd like to run in and buy your tracks accordingly.

IT depends on the series and time of day.

You have Americans, Europeans and Aussies driving on different times.
So even when you have members of 20.000 or so it will get deluted somewhat.

Take the Jetta for example. Almost nobody drives that, but there is a core of people driving it on certain days/time. Check the forum.

Or Grand Am which has alot of drivers on the weekends etc.

I would suggest buying the Mustang and the Riley so you can do some multiclass racing.

Then if you like oopen wheelers, The Star Mazda (wonderful little car)

Or the king of the hill, FW31 - This thing is a monster!

IF your planning on buying alot of cars and tracks i suggest buying them at the same time so you get a discount.

If you buy enough cars/tracks at the same time you get 25% off. That´s every fifth item for free basically.

The majority of the road course cars have plenty of people racing in each race. What are you looking at to see the participation? You can look at the results page of each series to see when the most popular times are for each series. Off the top of my head the only road cars with a lower participation are the Lotus 79 and the V8 Supercar (being an Australian series car it is most active during their evening). Even those two cars have people racing them, although you might need to get onto the forums to see when is the best time. During the evening in England I've never had any problems racing and I tend to race most of the road cars up to the C license level.

Also, on the note of money, how would you guys recommend I go about purchasing additional cars / tracks?

Firstly look at the license level that allows you to race each car (you can practise any car at any license level). Once you want to try something different from the rookie cars (Solstice, Mazda and SRF) then have a look at what you can run with the D license. I recommend the Skip Barber - it is great fun! You can look at the track schedule for each series to see which tracks they use during the season and buy accordingly.

I have a question for you guys, what headset does everyone use. My tritton AX 720 just don't work with my MacBook pro running windows 7 thru bootcamp. I can hear everything but I cannot chat. I was thinking of picking up a USB headset but then my butt kicker won't work.

I'm using Tritton AX Pros with a PC and Windows 7 - sound and chat both work perfectly.

Is there somewhere you can go on iracing.com to view oter players' replays? Also, can I filter what replays I want based on track and car?

My problem is I have no idea what gear to use on certain courses I've never raced before so I'm hoping if I can watch a few replays that I can figure that out.

Thanks for the help!

Not that I know of unfortunately. There are plenty of laps on youtube and a lot of people put up replays in the car discussion sections on the iRacing members forum.

Replays are stored only on the persons PC rather than being stored online so no, you can't get at them.

To things you can try. Firstly, go into the forums as sometimes people post replays of their fastest laps. Secondly, use spectator mode to watch a race and learn from that - you can even save replays of a race that you watch yourself.

Youtube is the best place for replays.

Setups you can find in the Forum. But i would suggest getting 2-3 setups for one car because everybody drives differently. Like for me, i drive the Riley atm and waiting for the Acura but i like neutral setups which not many people do. Most like to have a strong front end and only worry about the rear end and vice versa.

Please excuse my n00bness, but how do you create "setups?" Is it in the "options" menu or somewhere else? I'm at work right now so cannot launch game to check. Thanks!
