I would like to see some L49 action on dirt....
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/3510448.page#10191799Tony GardnerGood afternoon,
We are excited about the build next week! You will see multiple enhancements and improvements to the simulation and overall service. Right now the plan is to do the usual quarterly software update on December 6th at about 8:00 AM EST.
However I wanted to discuss just a few things that are NOT going to be in build next week and provide a brief update. You will see soon enough what will be in the build next week!
Dirt:
As you probably are aware we are very excited about “dirt” and have heard the same from so many of you. Major pieces of it have been finished for months. There are so many details, facets and challenges to this new form of racing for us graphically and physically. We had many new development challenges to tackle and many new and unique features to develop. I think you will be very impressed with all the work and detail put into this when you get a chance to see it and drive it. However, a few smaller things are still lingering and we want to nail this down to our satisfaction. The small things can make a big difference. We would not expect to release it by year end either with the year winding down and holidays etc. The good news is we feel we are close and are still optimistic to release before the March build. We would do a “mid-season” release if the feature/Dirt was ready. As far as content we have Eldora, Williams Grove and a dirt version of USA Speedway about done and more tracks in the works already. We have 305, 358 and 410 versions of a Dirt Super Late Model. We have a wingless dirt 410 sprint car. We have a winged Sprint Car including 305, 360 and 410 versions. We are putting the cars through our CFD “wind tunnel” to get better aero data, especially for the Winged Sprint car. We also will have dirt versions of our NASCAR truck and a dirt version of the legends car out of the gate. Much more coming and already in the works including global rally cross. Thanks for your patience. It is heart-breaking not to release some of it for year-end with all the work we have put in and being so close but it is the right thing to do.
Time-Attack:
This new hot-lapping competition/feature we think is going to be a great fun and will be something that almost everyone from rookies/time constrained people to veteran sim-racers will really enjoy. We are also close on this new feature and also would release at a point in time, not necessarily needing to wait until a season end build. We will be doing a video about it soon to give you a better idea of it.
Other:
We are also still working on many other things discussed previously like the new damage model, new in-sim UI, web interface, improved and new sounds including working on utilizing XAudio 2, animation and graphics, new forums, physics, incredible content and working on many other things not yet discussed!
Happy Holidays!
Apparently this is the new UI. It was posted to the forums by a guy claiming to have found it in an existing .dat file and then removed shortly after...
Edit: Embedded Imgur seems broken so I've changed it to a link.
I have been thinking a good bit about the inclusion of dirt track racing in iRacing. The package is to include the likes of Williams Grove Speedway and Eldora Speedway. Part of me says we may possibly get more tracks. You know you have to have the Midwest represented. To me, I think there may possibly be some other courses that could be added should iRacing want some more dirt tracks. My predictions of future dirt tracks: Knoxville, Terre Haute, Dodge City, and maybe even The Dirt Track at Charlotte. At least get in the popular courses. If there was maybe an oddball pick, I probably would think about the Chili Bowl Nationals.
Not long ago, I saw my first-ever video or stream of Spec Racer Ford in a race. It was a race on Charlotte's road course. I actually wanted to race in Spec Racer Ford when I thought about racing in the SCCA. So this series kind of means something to me.
I have seen maybe 75% of the cars available for iRacing in videos and streams. I have also seen maybe 60% of the courses offered in iRacing. If more tracks were to be included, there are some American courses I wouldn't mind seeing. Such as... Autobahn Country Club, Monticello Motor Club, and Thunderhill. One track I never heard of was Jefferson Circuit. I found out later that it is a track within Summit Point Raceway. Jefferson Circuit seemed like a combination of a city park and a country drive. It was an interesting club circuit.
And so there you have it. More musings from me on iRacing.
tire model.
Tire model from what I've felt is this: Once you've got a tankslapper or almost any slide (that's not super minor), you can't save it... otherwise you are going to end in an eternal tankslapper that will ONLY end with you spinning out the other direction. The new Porsche is SO much better at this... PLEASE GIVE US A FIXED TIRE MODEL FOR EVERY OTHER CAR at the end of the season!
The tire models are designed to replicate what real world feel is, hence why you get so much better feel out of the GT3 tire model over the NASCAR tire model,
Funny, I find the exact opposite
The Porsche however is brilliant along with the V8SC.
I hate the GT3's something about them is just wrong.
I haven't enjoyed the GT3 cars since season 3, they did a bunch of mid season updates to them in December and I feel they've been ruined, I suffer so much snap oversteer under brakes now its driving me nuts! Though the positive is its forcing me out of my comfort zone and I'm getting on with non ABS cars more,
That is one of my biggest issues with iRacing. They constantly change tire models or the way car behaves is just insane. I can't but feel they throw darts at a board sometimes and want people to relearn the car every season as a way to keep people coming back and feeling bad....
I remember doing Skip in one season, absolutely destroying the competition, come next season and all my setups, the way the car handles every had changed and i have never gone back to it.
2012S2 they did it mid season with the Mustang and it completely ruined the car for Okayama. Now it's more similar to how it was and really good. That is one of my biggest issues with iRacing. Strange you mention this. I improved on my PB in a Bathurst time trial by almost one second yesterday. Previous best was on a cooler track with my setup. Yesterday was 40 degrees C track and fixed setup !I felt the same with the Cadillac, I don't know if its an equipment update or something in iracing but I cant match my old times,

It feels really really good guys. Makes sense since they actually used real life Porsche Cup drivers for Beta testing as apposed to Team Redline for everything else.
Shinya Where did you hear this, we have no influence on handling, we aren't in testing groups for iRacing. iRacing have had feedback from pro drivers for many years. We are not fans of iRacing physics but its where the competition has been.
