I changed the settings on my pc and am now getting arround 235 peaks and normally arround 135 on pace laps.

Hey guys, I'm a long time GT guy but just getting into iRacing, so far I'm really digging it. After 4 official races I really enjoy looking at all the stats....it's pretty amazing software.

My main question is, how do I check my video card? My laptop is pretty new and runs windows 7, and I have the max frame rate on iRacing but my frame rate jumps around from the mid 50's down to low 40's during a race. I have the settings set to max frame rate, but after lurking in this thread for a while it seems like both my frame rate and my video card suck.

At that frame rate am I getting less of an experience?

I'm a total newb to this so any "laymen terms" advice will be helpful. :)

Thanks dudes!!

Thanks for the info. Where do I go to check the ATI settings, is that in game or on the computer? I have the frame rate maxed in game, so if there are other options I don't know about them.

Thanks again for the help!

Yea there should be a control panel on your computer for ATi.

I think you can locate it in Windows Control Panel but if not then just search on it.

We can :)
This is a myth.

60fps looks pretty smooth right? Imagine double that refresh rate and you get an idea of how smooth 120Hz screens are :)

It differs from person to person but i can see differences up to a little over 100fps.

Yet, I just had some friends over last night. They played on my laptop at 84 FPS and then on my desktop at 200 FPS and they and I notice no difference.

On that website I notice a difference from 15 to 30. Almost nothing from 30 to 60.

if its fall under 80 fps, i can see it very well.
but wait, just bought a new monitor, my old one was only a cheap LG LCD. will see if it will be better now because of the input lags. :)

I'm not sure how many hzs my screen is. It's a 19 inch Sharp Aquos. I assume it's pretty good since Aquos easily has the best picture quality/color of any screen out there IMO.

I thought the higher classes were supposed to avoid fools like this.... I'm the number 8 car (white/green/blue):

As I said before in another thread, stupidity knows no bounds.

Well this is mostly individual. Everyone is different so i guess you and your mates just can´t see the difference.

I can see a huge difference between 30 vs 60fps, huge :)
But my eyes are very sensitive.

Yea i´m sure it´s a good screen. But if you can´t notice a difference in 30 vs 60 fps it´s your eyes not the screen :)

Not saying that you have F´d up eyes lol it´s just that some can view/train to see things other people can´t.

Keep track of the top of the box and watch it closely.

Edit: Yes i know Rudi, double post! It´s my birthday today so i don´t really give a sht :P

Yes, the difference between 30 and 60 to me is as clear as day. Its much much smoother.

What astounds me is the number 4 guy who takes me out in the second incident is Nick Percat, an Aussie V8 driver for the Walkinshaw team. You would have thought he'd have better spatial awareness and look in his mirrors....

Quick question. Is iRacing worth playing with out a wheel? I haven't had a wheel since GT4 and don't think I'll get one any time this year.

I've been on their site and checked out the information, another question I have is; anybody here playing it on a laptop?

No i would not do that to be honest. I would get a wheel, you can get good wheels for very little money nowadays.

I have a friend who plays on a 15inch computer and he´s very quick in the F1 so i guess it works alright ;)

I tried playing it with a 360 controller I have hooked up to my PC just for the hell of it once. I wouldn't recommend it. It's pretty hard to even calibrate the controller in a way that makes it playable, and even if you manage that... you'll never have the level of control that you need to be successful in iRacing.
