Is there any point to that car wash?

Seems to me like the cars automatically clean themselves before each race, which kind of makes that car wash seem pretty pointless. Or am I wrong? Would be good if the cars kept the dirt on them until you clean them.

*RESULTS*

They did 10 runs down a 1 mile track, 5 dirty 5 clean. The dirty car did worse than the clean car, getting 24mpg. The clean got 26. BUSTED

Next they tested if the golf ball effect that the dirt was suppose to have works on a car. they covered a car in clay and smoothed it down so that it was the same shape as the car body. They did the same test as before, 5 runs smooth, and 5 with golfball dimples. Smooth-26mpg, Dimpled-29mpg.

Something I noticed:

I can definitely see dirt buildup over time in GT Auto. B-Spec Bob put 5000 miles on my X2010 before I washed it and you could see the difference over time and then after. Noticed the same with my Minolta that I put some miles on and never washed.

That said, I ONLY noticed it at GT Auto, not in the garage or game. Maybe that is the cause of confusion here?

I'm not sure how many miles it takes. I use my fgt for B-Spec grinding and after a lot of endurance events changing the oil would not take it back to the original bhp. So I did the engine overhaul and It's back to normal again , if your x2010 or any other car does the same then that is when I would overhaul the engine.

I noticed the hp to go down somewhere around 4,000-5000 km on the FGT despite oil changes. I can't confirm though, if that's the same for all the cars.

Regarding chassis rigidity, you don't really have anything to measure it by, so there's no reliable reports as to when this may affect a car.

I think it is, yes. The car ALWAYS looks cleaner after it's been washed. But as I mentioned in a post about a month ago, taking the same car that had been through multiple races and taking photos IN race, I noticed no difference taking that same car after a wash and taking photos on the same track in the same spot. It looked exactly the same. Dirt and grime will build up during the race. But when a new race has started, it's always clean again.

I wish there was some way to determine this easily. At around 1500 miles (95% on the Nurburgring Nordschleife) on my GTR Spec V I started to have slight handling problems that at first I thought was me, but it wasn't I did the refresh and all was better.

Now being that I use that car a lot I may be "in tune" with it better to notice stuff like that, but I have other cars I've put more miles on that haven't noticed that issue or needed it.

after all, does it make RL sense to change the oil in a brand new car? no. but does it up your HP in GT5? yes.

Most likely that's just a minor "exploit" in the game, because changing oil in a car bumps HP and they allow you to change the oil unless it's still new. Since a new car hasn't technically had the oil changed, it probably just "allows" it.

In real life, you do want to change oil after breaking in a new engine. Most race/tuning shops do a hard break in on a dyno or on the street, which means you end up breaking in and changing the oil within 10-20 miles of new.

So, it's not that far off if it's any consolation. 👍

My heavily (ab-)used car - M3 CSL - did build up dirt quite nicely. Can be seen in game (and in replays) as well as GT Auto, but not in the garage.

Love this kind of patina :D

I am just wondering if other drivers online would see it...

Havent washed my IRL-car in 18 months, its not that dirty... just saying..
I dont race it ofc. :)
Its a Opel Meriva..
Great when u have kids, but no trackmachine, lol.

So you don´t care about an object worth thousands of Euros? Pretty much waste of money, don´t you think the same?

Nah, if I get a car someday that i actually like, i will take care of it better, this can ill just drive till it dies and throw it away..
Have had a BMW and a Alfa that i liked, i used to wash those..

THere is a thread that explains many of these features and the effects on the car. ;) USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!

Of course there's a point to the car wash! How else are you going to say thank you to your car for helping you win an endurance race?

Maybe because you had setup your GTR to a new chasis, so with the use u felt the diference, and in the others cars they were already used so you setup them to compensate the chasis lost.

Does this make sense to you?

I'm asking because i'm running the DTM series with a ABT audi and i felt a huge diference after chasis rebuilding, in some tracks i was 1 or 2 seconds faster:tup:.

If you want my advice i rather rebuild my chasis than my engine...
Power is nothing without control...👍

If PD could get everything working right I could see where Damage for example could weaken the structure and response of your handling! Maybe a % number that goes down over time.

I understand, that cars are just conveyance. But you paied a lot money for it, so I would think, you care about it and try to keep it as long as possible in good condition....even when you don´t like the car.

"Is there any point to that car wash?"

Yes, my 4 year old thinks it's cool to watch. Other than that though...?

I've heard that it might improve aerodynamics a tiny bit.

So basically, no it doesn't do anything, If there was a REAL aero improvement it would be well proven by now. Any affect it might have is obviously a non factor or, like I said, we'd have figured it out by now.

Here are some shots of dirty cars and how they looked after the car wash. Both cars were already dirty from running a B-spec endurance or two and these photos were taken early in Lap 1 at the practice track.

I was reminded of this thread when I saw a Veyron with the same tiger stripes during an online race last night.

Well look at that... The cars really do get dirty lol. I haven't wash a single car ever since I started the game, I wonder how dirty some of them really are cuz they sure don't look dirty.
