Is there any point to that car wash?

Maybe because you had setup your GTR to a new chasis, so with the use u felt the diference, and in the others cars they were already used so you setup them to compensate the chasis lost.

Does this make sense to you?

I'm asking because i'm running the DTM series with a ABT audi and i felt a huge diference after chasis rebuilding, in some tracks i was 1 or 2 seconds faster:tup:.

If you want my advice i rather rebuild my chasis than my engine...
Power is nothing without control...👍

Yeah that definitely makes sense, and is actually kinda cool

That Bugatti looks more like a paint scratch than dirt. Has anyone really been online and noticed an opponents's car being dirty?

My X1 has done 40-50,000 miles and has never been washed. Yes there is accumulation of dirt, I was running 24 Hours Le Man in it with the majority of the race in the rain and you could see the dirt mapping - I was particularly aware of it because to be honest it looked a bit odd especially under the lighting during the night sections. However as soon as you exit whatever race or championship you are in the dirt mapping is reset.

When you think about it that makes sense, remembering the dirt mapping for potentially 1000+ cars adds notably to the entire memory footprint and could complicate processes like painting wheels and body of dirty cars. So the car wash is there as a frivolity really.

It fails one of the basic gaming tests though, cause and consequence, there should never be an occasion where a user does something with nothing coming out the other end as a result. If something does somehow happen with the car wash then it is still failing this test, the user should always be able to know what is happening and this thread shows that no-one can really tell.

I do like the earlier argument 'the car is actually dirty but it's just invisible dirt' Fantastically mangled logic!

That car wash is just pointless. It would be so much better if the car keep the dirt on it, and the tires would really wear out and you have to buy another set. These seem so simple things to do, so i wonder why not pd, why not?

If they did that they would at least have to raise the payout for each event, I'm not sure I want to spend 36,000cr every couple races.

Yes cars do build up dirt after a period of time

Hardly noticeable, hope PD updates the cars to carry dirt after finishing a rally, snow etc

On a related note, why does GT Auto exist at all, other than to eat precious resources and waste our time? Aero parts, wheels, and race mods could (and should) be found in the tune shop, and the wash and oil change is just kind of silly IMHO. That would just leave paint, which could be moved to an actual paint area with more features related to painting.

Because its GranTurismo... it's all part of the atmosphere...

For me, they just need to gain dust quicker, like in GT1... I loved to let my R32 GT-R in gun gray mettalic dirty as crap... it looked so mean!

Yes, we know that. But the point is, after a new race begins, all of the build up is gone, whether you wash it or not. Hence the car wash is pointless.

Nope its still there when ever I start a race. That picture was taken on the 1st lap on practice.

Good point! Need to see some testing... :)

Anybody got a HD capture card? lol

lol does my picture not prove it? My car has done about 2000 miles and has never been washed(well once when I newly got GT5 lol). Dirt became slightly more noticeable round about the 1000 miles mark. I think the more miles you put on a car the dirtier it gets.

It's funny you would say that - I had the exact same suspicion when I first noticed it. :) Then I remembered that all visible crash damage disappears after a race and this did not. Besides... after a trip to the car wash, it all went away along with the dirt on the other sides of the car.

Has anyone really been online and noticed an opponents's car being dirty?
I can't say if the Bugatti I saw the other night had carried dirt from offline to online or if they had been in the room so long it was accumulated there. All I know is I instantly recognized the same stripe pattern as mine.

Yea, my very first GT1 car (black '88 Nissan Silvia Q's) has never had a car wash, and looks as if they paint will go screeeeee if you run your fingernails over it. Looks like something from the trailer park.

In contrast, my '64 Pontiac GTO in GT5, which I've put over 500 miles on, is now just barely starting to lose its shine. Granted, real-life cars do hold their shine longer than some people in this thread seem to want to admit, but I'm hoping for that oxidized look of GT1 eventually. From what you guys are saying, this never really happens?

Yeah yeah buddy! It does prove it! :) Just wanted to see that in a video... I'm at work, I'll have to wait some hours until I can get at home and test for myself :)

btw, thanks for the pics!

OK, maybe I'm blind. You're saying that picture is of a 'dirty' car? I really can't see it. :dunce:

lol Yeah that picture is of a dirty car. Like I said the dirt is hardly noticeable but its definably there.

Unless I am starting to imagine things

I dont see it? Where is this dirt you speak of?

I think what you'd have to do, is take a picture while the car is either still on the grid or just leaving the grid. Then go and wash it and take a picture from the same race at the same angle. And then compare the two. Maybe you're right. But I don't think this picture is really much proof.

Honestly, I want to get to the bottom of this too but I really can't see any dirt in that picture. It may be smudged in comparison but we'd need something to compare it with.

I can tell you that I went through the trouble to do this and I couldn't notice any difference pre/post wash.

Ok I will do that :), but in the mean time have a look at this

In between the yellow lines is what i call dirt

In between the blue lines is light reflections

The bottom line is this... IF the dirt remains on the car between races, it is hardly noticeable regardless of how dirty the car WAS at the end of the last race. To me, this is a bug.

Near the end of an endurance race, on some tracks, my car is literally covered with dirt. It is extremely noticeable. Why is that noticeable dirt disappearing without the car being washed? If you have a car wash in the game, the dirt shouldn't magically clean itself.

Maybe they spend 30 seconds after the race hosing it down to get any corrosive material off the paint, versus giving it a full wash and polish like the 50 Cr car wash gets you?

Honestly, the expense is negligible but so is any performance (real or imagined) benefit. If you don't think your car looks dirty, don't wash it. If it makes you feel good to baby your car, spend the chump change to wash it.

People are being a little hypercritical of a very unimportant game element. Honestly I don't think PD wanted to devote the system resources to storing dirt mapping on 1000+ cars in your garage for an indefinite amount of time.

People would probably just complain otherwise about all their cars being dirty all the time and how PD forces them to wash their cars and how stupid it is...

If only the car wash was a bit more like this.

Yeah, the developers of TDU2 did a good job. Cars get dirty fast and intense and it keeps dirty where ever you go until you get this nice car wash.

That´s how it needs to be in GT. The dirt textures of GT5 are just a joke.

I first noticed this one in GT Auto. I went in for an oil change and noticed the pattern that looks like a filmstrip running across the door.
