The slow roll-out of the game is becoming frustrating. The fact the the GT6 website still has Community, Quick Match, B Spec, Course Maker, Data Logger, GPS Visualizer, Mobile Devices, and 3D Capability listed in the Update section is ridiculous. I understand the VGT cars need time to be developed and released. I also understand the Senna Content makes sense for a May 2014 release to coincide with the 20th anniversary of his passing, and I don't even want to speculate about the potential sound update. However, the fact that other core features that have been used to market the game to prospective customers are still not present is just further evidence of how incomplete GT6 was at release and remains to this day.
While I think releasing GT6 on PS3 was the right decision from a business standpoint, I strongly suspect that Sony did not allow PD to delay GT6, like GT5 was delayed. Waiting for a compete version of GT6 in the spring/summer 2014 time frame would have marginalized its relevance as PS4 would be deeper into its life cycle. Forcing an unfinished game out on PS3 before PS4 had a chance to gain market share allowed PD/Sony to cash in on some quick sales, even if the numbers aren't on par with GT5 sales. By the time GT7P and/or GT7 get released, PS4 will be a well established platform, and I might even own one.
A quick port of GT6 will likely serve as GT7P, while we wait 2-3 more years for a proper GT7. The full version of GT7 must address the faults of GT5/6. Sales will continue to decline if another round of reviews focuses on the poor sounds, poor AI, standard cars, etc... Although the fact that the sounds are the primary point of evidence in the teaser for GTR3 has me excited. If every other developer of sim racing games can do something respectable with the sounds, why can't PD.
Maybe I wouldn't be so frustrated by this if there was better communication from PD and a more specific schedule for the release of new content. If PD had told everyone the new track would be released on February 28, instead of just telling us it would be a February update, this thread never would have needed to be created.
I don't play a lot of games, but the two games in 2013 for which I was most excited were both colossal disappointments at launch: SimCity and GT6 (owned every major release of both franchises).
