it could be the power valve in seniors. if it's popping you may want to check everything is all ok inside it. if this has gone wrong then you will be running as a junior (which have more popping) but jetted and geared for a senior (won't help). that is one of the only things i can think of. either that or a dud battery but you said you changed that...

We swapped the engine so it's not the power valve.
And the carb.
And the battery.
I think it might be something in the exhaust. We did seal it when we made the engine swap, but that was kind of rushed.
It's probably a combination of things.
Oh well, the guys at the shop know what they're doing. They'll have it figure out.

Well that was a very very bad race day.

The practices were soaking wet and we were lapping several seconds faster than everyone else. Then of course it was completely dry for the races but they sent us out on wet tires.
And to make matters worse we were on the new style wet tires which are worse in the dry than the old ones, and in 8 laps they got destroyed. Like, totally destroyed, the fronts had lost about 3/4 of their tread. (And I hit a barrier and bent the steering coloumn.)

The second race went much better as I was pissed off and made a big swing at the setup, the result was a very twitchy and loose kart, but it had more front grip than I've ever had with the Birel. We comfortably won the second race.

For the final I started 3rd, and had a very good shot at winning the final too. (I was actually faster than the guy who won the final.)

In the second corner I lost a position but it was alright because I could get back by in the first turn, it was not to be though as somebody climbed my rear bumper and got their front bumper stuck in between the wheel and the air filter.

For some unknown reason they DIDN'T brake to get unstuck and we eventually slid to a stop, at that very moment I was upset with this guy but I knew that it was just a racing incident and that mistakes happen. (Race was ruined though.)
What really ticked me off though, was that he didn't even try to get out of the kart to get unstuck, and then when I ripped the karts apart he just drove off and left me there.

Now I don't know about you guys but if I run over somebody like that, (and I have) then I get out of the kart and I give the other guy a push because I screwed up his race and it's the least that I can do.

So pretty much what he was saying was (at least to me), 🤬 you, and driving off.

At that point I completely lost it and when I caught up coming out of the last corner I started pushing him down the straight, and I didn't let up until he started spinning into the first corner. Cue black flag blah blah blah.

I feel a bit bad now, because he was only half a season into racing, but I wasn't mad at him for wrecking me, I was mad a him for not even attempting to help and then driving off.

I'll probably apologize to him next race and try to end the day on a higher note.

Edit:
This shows how are starts usually are, have fun when you're in the middle of it...

I just did my first karting Enduro Saturday night. I think it was 90 min or so. It was a blast! I drove from California (5 hours) got home at about 5:00. Got to the track at 6:50 with my stuff looking for a ride. Got to drive some guys Sr Rotax in the Sr class.

I got to do a Le Mans start! I was leading my class out of the start when the kart started to vibrate badly. At about turn 4 or 5 the wheel came off and it sent me through a high speed left-right click into the grass. The van got me, the hub and wheel we're changed in 2 minutes. By that time we were 13 laps down. I had to do a longer stint. I got out, gave the kart to another kid. He did 10 minutes, then he got in the 4-stroke. For the last 30 minutes, I did 15, got out, and my friend Derek did the last 15 minutes. We finished 3rd. I'm pleased with the result. Probably the most fun I'd had in a kart.

That's a pretty quick kart and track layout, I bet it took a bit of memorization to know where the cones are at that speed.

Oh yeah is right.
I felt more tension for that race then I did at a race where I started mid pack in a group of 30-35 karts. And the racing at this track is like Daytona, 5-7 karts pushing the entire way round.

And ruin the artistic purity?
It would be cool if there was a film of standing water, and the inside rear was a few inches off of the ground.

40hp+ would be "fun" in the wet.

Random crash picture from the races yesterday.
I was flagging for 9 hours to get community service for high school.
(They had to restart, but the 17 still won from pole.)

Had a practice day at CKC to run my engine in and get setup ready for the Roy Mortara meeting there in 2 weeks.

Here is a vid my dad took. He had to only video the one where we had too low tyre pressures in so had no grip, hence why everyone was catching me.

I went to an oval kart race last night. There is nothing scarier in racing than seeing a kart roll over. Luckily, the guy that rolled was ok. Ended up working in a pit crew, our guy did alright.

Good driving nonetheless 👍 .

Nobody's posted anything for a while, might as well post some pictures of my arrive and drive session two days ago:

And my first time outdoors, did much better than expected despite 'forgetting' to bring my kit along  :

Don't worry, I'll be karting professionally like you guys soon 👍 .

Well, yesterday was a day and a half! My parents paid for me to have a one-to-one tuition session and they didn't have anything in particular to teach me for the 40 mph kart that I was in other than staying off the really bumpy rumble strips. That was when I was trusted under exceptional circumstances with the 75 mph Pro-karts at the track, even though only over 16s or MSA license holders are supposed to drive them (of course, a disclaimer was needed).

I took it slow, as this would be my first time travelling at full race speed. As soon as I got onto the start/finish straight I put my foot down. This was when shock and amazement struck my tutor and phone calls started to fly in all directions for people to come and watch. I also heard that a driver from GP2 was there along with a couple of regular Rotax Senior Max karters. This was what my parents told me what happened, but I found this believable because I noticed a crowd started to form in the pits and in race control.

Then on the 64th lap, I broke the track record with 41.54 (The circuit was Rye House), beating the fastest laptime ever around that circuit. The track was also slightly damp and very cold. Apparently it even beat's Lewis Hamilton's record but even I don't believe that :scared: .

I have pictures and I will upload them when I can.

Just to update, I just heard that there was a meeting just after I'd left the circuit. I'd never imagined that creating a new track record would cause such excitement O_O .

Well good luck to you. Sounds like you caused quite a stir.

I have always been stuck in making a choice between buying a car to turn into a drift car or buying a kart. It has been turned more to karting recently especially as I set the fastest lap in the rain at my local track and setting one of the fastest laps in the dry. I also set a top 40 fastest lap at a 'professional' track when I was on holiday which wasn't bad considering it was my third 15 minute session there. These were all in 'Arrive and Drive' karts though not full racing karts.

Anyone here tried. Kart racing pro? It's actually really accurate. Especially setting up the kart. One of the best sims so far.
