The only rule I have on starts is to get on the throttle before the person in front of you. Even if you're pushing on their bumper.

This is true aswell, but, be careful not to bump the kart in-front too hard as it seems to wash off a lot of momentum.

Nice Race Melancoly but at the start you should be right on there bumper to get a good start

Haha, I started last on the grid because it's my first year in that kart club.

So, there was an empty spot on the grid in front of me. :indiff: In the end, with the number of karts that spun in front of me, I was lucky not to be riding rear bumpers. :sly:

Is Praga a sponsor or are they are fully fledged kart maker?

They make the kart I wish I had. I like my Birel, but those Praga karts... But, yes, they're a manufacturer. They won several championships last season.

Well, urm, they don't design and make their own chassis. They are a sub brand of intrepid (or what was intrepid.).

Intrepid changed their name to orange kart at the end of last season because of a licencing disagreement over the name intrepid. So effectively praga is just an intrepid (Orange kart) chassis with different colours. Kinda like how Alonso or Esprit are just different coloured tonykarts. ;)

Both made by IP karting http://www.ipkarting.com/en/products

Good for them!
Hope you get yourself a Praga one day ;)

Doubt it, but maybe. Would be one sexy kart though.

@lbsf1, at my kart track, you run either Praga or Birel (because people at my track actually think Praga is a Birel copy) or you don't run as fast.

Only five people run something that isn't a Praga, or Birel. Three of them run First Kart, one was running a First Kart and switched to Praga, and one runs a 6/7 year old Birel, which, in my mind, classifies it as worth mentioning as not a modern Birel.

Its just down to setup, 90% of chassis will be fast on a track if set up correct. The only exception I know to this is Gillard in the uk which arn't fast when it gets hot. All other chassis if you setup correctly will be fast.

Also if its a post 2005 birel then it will be very similar in design to new ones, they haven't had a major revamp of design since then.

Surprisingly, this one's entirely different. Right now, I'm wondering if she (or, her dad, for that matter) lied to me about the chassis. But, I don't care, 'cuz it's hard to stay mad at a girl you'd rather be dating... :dopey:

Haha, My mistake it was 2006 that were the new style chassis so I'm guessing she may have a 2005 then.

Karting is fully of myths and lies about stuff so I wouldn't be put off, lol. They may be been miss sold it or something. ;)

'Cuz, you know, when the "bumpers" are squares, something is not the same.

I mean, they had to cut the bumpers to make the motor fit. :scared: That's why new karts have bumpers that have flat spots that fit below the motor. 💡

Chassis makes 0 difference in lap time.
Me and another guy ran two different chassises (what is the plural form of chassis?) last year. We were always within a tenth of a second on lap time, regardless of conditions (didn't have much rain last year).
This year we both switched chassises (seriously though). I went stiffer, he went softer. No difference in lap times.

It really doesn't matter. It feels different, but it's equally as fast.

Yeah, driver is the main difference, I have a wright r1 chassis that is quite old, yet it could still beat (previous owner) a brand new (2012) chassis

Edit: I also agree with the post below. I wasn't aware of these extreme cases until today, however, if your chassis has a wide wheel base naturally then it would be better suited to the wet compared to a part which has a small footprint

I agree to a degree. 90% of the time any chassis will be as fast as any other chassis, however there are a few makes that have extreme characteristics (as I mentioned gillard) and thus are better suited to different conditions (but not different tracks.)

Chassis is the plural of chassis, its like sheep, one sheep, many sheep.

I think it doesn't really matters witch chassis you have it is almost only the colors , it matters the settings of your chassis

Yep, pretty much, also combinations of design and alloy used. Gillard for example is a uk only brand, hence it never really needs to be used on hot gripy tracks, so it wasn't really tested on those.

Like an Arrow kart for us Aussies?
Except the Arrow kart is good in the hot and bad in the wet, I think.
Not sure on how it all works, I pretty new to all the details and stuff :P

There's someone who races an Arrow kart at my own track; it's basically a Birel chassis just like any other.

Pretty sure the world's only unique chassis is that Gillard chassis.

Almost all chassis look the same, Gillard looks like any other. Its the exact geometry and composition of the alloys that makes the difference. Birel is completely different to CRG which is completely different to TonyKart which is completely different to Intrepid/Praga/OK1 which is completely different to Arrow.

Tony's have a reputation for being very soft and bending easily as they are honed on Italian hot grippy tracks. Where as british makes (TWS, Gillard, Wright) tend to be stiffer as that is better for us. Both karts design looks almost identical however are different!!

The only modern chassis I can think of that is different in looks also is the rs8.

It didn't really catch on.

EDIT: In case you were being sarcastic in your post then I do apologies.

Has anyone heard much about the Formula K kart? It is supposed to be the new OTK beater. Very few teams have managed to get their hands on them, but as soon as they do, they have switched. Protrain switched from Gillard to Tonykarts, and have jumped straight onto the Formula K. Also being recommended by driver coaches that have worked with the top lot in Europe. Could be a huge manufacturer in the future...

Club day tomorrow. I'm expecting to be 5th or around that position. See how the cookie crumbles ;)
Still behind in weight. Hopefully drop another couple of kilos before next month.

Nice vids MrMelan

What kind of engine do you drive

Modified Honda GX200. :)

Thanks! :) I'm a bit behind, too. Too many cookies though, I'm not exactly thin. Stupid heartbreak nonsense.

Fixed 👍 .
