wow, co-op multiplayer is now going to be another feature of the game! Another thing that's going to be great for social gaming is BOT matches, meaning in multiplayer settings you can in fact fight against AI opponents in a multiplayer enviornment...that is wicked, brings me back to the days of SOF:2...i don't know but with all these new features maybe just maybe Killzone will be a tad better than Resistance? bah regardless both will be mine!!!

I know its not really important but is this the official box art? I hope it is because it looks ace! very GOW style with the guys standing there..

Its on Amazon's site and Gamespot are also using it which leads me to believe its real (although it doesnt have the devs logo on it)... I dont think amazon would go to the trouble of creating fake box art... what do you think? Bit early to have the official boxart?

Public Beta invites are out now for Killzone 2 (well in the UK at least) so get checking your in-boxes guys.

Trust me on this, if you get an invite you want to play this.

It is still classed as a Closed Pubic Beta, so the NDA is still in place (so if you do get in don't go chatting here or on any forum about the content) but I'm fairly sure I can say people will like it).

So this is just if Sony pick you at random right? Not having to sign up to be in with a chance?..... man I want one so bad! :indiff:

As far as I know its random, which is why I sugest checking in-boxes.

I got into the public beta because I was part of the closed beta (I'm fortunate enough to be a Sony Beta tester), and while the NDA forbits me from talking about the game specifically I can certainly remind people to check to see if they have an invite.

See Killzone 2 is doing everything right. The game doesn't come out until February and since September I think, they have been beta testing it. I never understood how all of these games (resistance 2, socom, Call of Duty WaW, etc, ) can release a beta 2 weeks before the game comes out and expect to have any time to address the issues found in the beta. Its more like a publicity stunt I think.

edit: watch this video!

I dont know why its not working, but heres a link.

The last minute beta tests (SOCOM, R2, etc) are more about testing server loads than anything else.

Resistance 2 went through a long closed beta test before that, with the current public beta being more about testing and checking server stability (and generating intrest as well) than about getting feedback about the game.

You are spot on in saying that most of these don't have the time frame to make any changes to the game itself.

Oh oh. I suppose thats true, I didn't really think about that. Gotcha.

To me its just as important as getting the 'core' game right, but that's mainly because I remember when COD4 came out and they totally underestimated the on-line demand. The servers just couldn't cope, it took 20 minutes or more to get in a game, then you suffered from nasty lag and disconnects. It took weeks to get it fixed and being honest if COD4 hadn't been such a damn good on-line game it could have killed the on-line side of things off.

I honestly think that was a wake-up call to a lot of developers regarding the testing of this side of things, so have done it through demos (Battlefield Bad Company being a good example - great demo and great game) but the current trend is open betas. This approach does allow number to be better controlled, and it does generate a certain 'buzz' about the game and that doesn't hurt at all.

Yeah I definitely agree. When Im in a beta for a game it makes me feel like Im part of a dev team or something. It just has a sense of exclusivity to it.

I think it's irritating way to create easy hype... The development in the beta's I've seen so far are pretty much done. I think Socom proves that because they had problems while in beta and after the game was released. The only thing these limited spaces open betas do are make the people that got in bigger tOOls for rubbing it in and irritate people like me that can't get in. 👎

Really? Man, you really must know very little about videogames, videogame development, and the industry. Which explains a lot...

Yeah... you really are giving the developer feedback at their R&D...

Anyway, I can't wait for this game. Wouldn't mind beta testing too...

anybody from GTP in the beta? (hit me up if you are we'll have a game later)

:)

I will say that it doesen't even closely sums up how really good it is, but NDA is NDA even in my book;)

This NDA is a real pain, as I want to shout from the rooftops just how good this game is.

R2 is getting a lot of attention right now, but this is just a different class all together.

Not much has been going on with Killzone 2 lately (or rather not much has been heard)... I guess the dev's are hard at work polishing it off for the 27th Feburary release.

Just thought I'd post the final official EU and NA boxart covers, the NA one is really reminiscent of the Fallout 3 box. I must say I prefer the EU one with the 4 guys running out of a trench style.

There are 2 early reviews posted on metacritic:

Edit----
Well for some reason the megamers site seems to be down, but FWIW I did find their summary on this blog.

At the end of the day, logic predicts that a game with an intense single-player campaign and a killer multiplayer element is a win-win situation in anyone’s book. To be honest, Killzone 2’s secret ingredient is the fluidity in gameplay that we have come to enjoy more than its graphical prowess or jaw-dropping visuals. And that’s what games have always been about… We’re surprised to see Killzone 2 blows our expectations out of the water with a memorable SP campaign and a stellar MP component. To put it short, this game makes Gears of War 2 look like a High School attempt at gaming and that is a HUGE compliment!

Pretty high praise indeed and seemingly pretty well in line with the opinions of some of the members here with first hand experience.

It might well be an impressive game and its a definate buy but I think it was a mistake to call it Killzone 2 and continue the story of a previous game which was medicore at best. To be honest im into games and I NEVER heard of the original Killzone whilst it was in development and never even considered it when it came out, no one I know ever bought it. That and the reviews really just made the game fade into the background.

If Killzone 2 is a direct continuation which requires knowledge of the previous game thats a shame because its almost like the developer is trying to big up the first which was no Halo or GOW. They should have started a fresh, called it Killzone and gone at a totally new angle.

Can't wait for this! Played through the first one a couple times and loved every minute of it. Already have mine reserved waiting for release.

PS3Fanboy has the opening cutscene from GameTrailers.com
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2009/01/21/this-is-killzone-2s-opening-cut-scene

Don't watch it if you don't want spoilers.

I will say that I was only half interested in KZ2, in that I only cared in hopes that it would boost PS3 sales, and stop the "Sony in trouble" talk.

Now, I am interested, very, very interested.

But I am a very story-oriented person. If you are going to put me in the roll of a character I want a good story. As I did not play Killzone I have no story background.

So, what is the basic story that I should know? Or do I need any background?

And if anyone says, "Don't need a story because the multiplayer is awesome" I will take away your Internets.

i've never played the first killzone and i'm not too into multiplayer
should i still go out and get this (single player looks awesome)?

The backstory for the Killzone series is actually a pretty impressive piece of work, most of which can be found in the interactive timeline here....

....hope that helps.
