Killzone 2

Having had a look at the link Scaff posted the story seems ok but its slightly cliche and seems slightly over complex, it has too much business and politics in it. Although it might be realistic, having monsters hide underground and then suddenly pop up and kill everyone sounds more interesting and to the point!

The timeline on that link seems to end where the first Killzone starts, anyone got a timeline for the first game itself bringing it up to just before Killzone 2? Maybe stuff gets slightly more interesting.

Yes it has a 98% rating on metacritic but no one seems to be talking about the story / campaign... all its ever about is the beautiful graphics or great online but never any mention on whether the single player captures your imagination.

Anyone also know how long the single campaign is supposed to last (like hours?)

Who knows, in the end it could be absoluletly amazing!

Robin.

Have you not read a single review, only looked at scores and cliffnotes?

Pretty much all the reviews address gameplay and visuals. Good looking games don't get high scores just because they look good.

I'm definitely getting this game when it comes out to see what all the hype has been about. I am actually suprised at the score that IGN gave KZ2. I honestly thought it would've scored lower than that since I've heard that they're very biased towards the 360. I'm sure Gametrailers won't disappoint me with their score on KZ2. They did give MGS4 a 9.3/10 afterall.

It seems like so many gaming sites absolutely hates the PS3 and the system is the butt of all jokes on gaming sites. They still love the PS2, though, so it's a-ok!

Looks great. I just hope this game plays better the first one. I liked only one character, and she wasn't available in the beginning of the game.

I hope a demo becomes available soon. If not, it doesn't really matter. I have it in my GameFly list, anyway.

Where in your post does it say the words 'story', 'single player' and 'campaign'?

And yes I have read many reviews and they hardly any go into any detail on how they feel about the story (might be due to the press embargo as mentioned), if there is anything said its usually like a short paragraph saying the same stuff cut and pasted from KZ's website.

A few sites are pushing the embargo a littlle, the IGN review is worth a read, the summary of which is...

IGN
Killzone 2 is only a short month away from hitting shelves, but the game will definitely be worth the wait. The single-player experience is a truly enjoyable campaign across the Helghast home world that will test your skills, particularly on the higher difficulty levels, and the game simply looks phenomenal for a console shooter. But perhaps the strongest segment of the game is the extremely deep multiplayer, which gives seven basic classes with which you can create your own customized super-soldier after performing your class-specific duties. Not only did Guerrilla achieve a milestone of delivering a great exclusive title for Sony's PS3, it delivered one of the better shooters to come along in a long time. Get your hands on this game.

...and Eurogamer...

Taken as a whole, Killzone 2 doesn't initially seem to offer enough to justify the superlatives that have been dutifully set aside by the PS3 faithful. Despite the often-stunning graphics, it's often derivative of other titles and doesn't - on the surface - seem to have much that distinguishes it from the herd.

It's deceptive though. This is a methodical shooter that makes few concessions to those not already interested in its single-minded approach to cover-based military action. I've compared it to Rainbow Six in the past, but it also calls to mind F.E.A.R, another tough tactical effort that was often misunderstood by those expecting a frag-happy spook hunt. Killzone 2 is a taut and muscular game, a shooter that gives back more than you put in, provided you have the intestinal fortitude. It may take its time revealing its true depths and pleasures, but the journey is well worth taking. Between Killzone 2's unforgiving grit and Resistance 2's alien-bursting excess, the PS3 finally has both ends of the shooter spectrum covered in grand style.

Hope those two help give you a better idea of what is involved in regard to the story and single player side of things.

The score is very much in line with the game KZ2 is compared to often, COD4. In fact, COD4 is the only FPS or action game that got me going. I find MGS4 to be convoluted and TPS isn't as immersive as I find FPS to be. R2, while being closer to what I like but I find the whole game rather awkwardly structured. So KZ2 has been in my must buy list since the beginning and it's a relief to see that it didn't fall the way Haze did.

I know the story is single player, so i'm guessing there's zero chance for me and my buddy to play online multiplayer through my console?

Dude...

Is that Visari dude played by Brian Cox, or is it Nathan Lane?

One day developers will universally realize the benefit of co-op and same system multiplayer (what happened to that?). But honsetly, any game that has you as part of a group of men, or even a duo, should immediately allow co-op.

Brian Cox is correct

Well the breaking of the review embargo, unsurprisingly, has definitely had a positive sales impact. Currently KZ2 is tracking at #1 on Amazon's video game "Best Sellers in Video Games" list, whereas not more than 2 days ago I don't recall it being even in the top 25. It is only one data point understandably, but this is still a positive indicator for not only KZ fans vut the Sony faithful in general.

Edit----
Just in the course of typing this message it went from #2 to #1.

It's a shame. I was going to try and use this as an outstanding alternative to Gears 2, but even with the 16v16 online games versus 5v5 of Gears, playing with a friend is still really important.

Just pre-ordered on Amazon, and i should hopefully receive a code to receive two free Killzone 2 costumes for HOME.

Also, if you guys buy online be sure to enter "KZ2SAVE5" as a promotional code to save $5! It's a promotion by Sony. :D

I think that co op is to be patched in at a later date.

Cool - but only if you really want to know.

Just seen footage of the player in a MECH that run and jump with chain gun and rockets for weapons - looks very, very cool

Demo is out this Thursday on the EU store...

This Thursday, something very special is coming to the PlayStation Store: The Killzone 2 Single Player Demo.

The demo will cover the first 2 parts of the first level - 'Corinth River' and will give you the chance to try out this highly anticipated title before its release, and your first chance to take aim at the Helghast.

Excited anyone!?

...oh yes I'm looking forward to this. Just a shame those who didn't get into the beta will not get a chance to play the online before launch, but a glimpse at the single player is great (as I've not played any of that).

You're going to be amazed my friend, you've seen nothing like that.

Only thing I find as a drawback is the demo wil consist out offirst two chapter of Corinth River. Those are the first two chapters of the game, and while they're packed with some very serious amasements and nice set-pieces, they've could put some later chapters in order to make people drool their souls out.

However, since it is probably the most famous beggining of the game of all times (it is the same pice from the infamous 2005 E3 trailer) I guess marketing people also played some serious role in choosing the demo-content.

I can't wait for everybody to get this game and play it, I'd so like to talk about details, and I so have to keep myself stranded regarding everything.

Well I have seen something like it - the beta - lol.

I know what you mean from the footage I've seen and what I have already played in the multiplayer this game is going to be something else.

On the subject of saying stuff, is the embargo not been lifted now? I ask as I've seen a LOT of stuff over the weekend, enough for me to post the spolier I did yesterday.

Embargo was lifted days ago, hence, we even published a review few days before the embargo, since we'd loose all the momentum for our print-magazine with all these online-reviews popping up after the lift.

However, I striclty do not want to talk about the game in any way because I do not want to ruin experience for anyone. Thanx to both preview and review codes (novemeber and december) I was able to finish the game and play the heck out of both single-player, press-online and skirmish mode, and now I wait for the release so I can begin to discuss with everyone.

But I must say I'm very dissapointed with many online media, since they just ruined many, many great surprises (opening and ending movies, boss fights, some sections, etc..). I feel so lucky everything in Killzone 2 was a complete surorpise to me, which unfortunatly will not be the case to many people who just couldn't resist YouTube and such.

I understand it though, it is Killzone 2 after all.

I totally understand that, but must confess I have looked at a few bits on the web (mainly the opening movie and some of the gameplay footage), but not enough to ruin any major surprises.

Thanks

Of all the times I'm browsing the US Store, it's nice that we (Europe) can return the favour in some rare instances! Just don't swamp the PSN / Store and bring it down, please!

Really looking foreward to the demo but I bet PSN will crash or something under the tidal wave of people downloading!

I just hope the demo doesnt spoil too much of the suprise of the full game.

Robin.

Preview of the multi-player maps....

....which don't come close to showing how big some of them are. The three from the beta also look to have been improved on from a visual point of view, which stuns me (as they already looked amazing).

Am I the only person who isn't that excited about this game? I know it looks stunning, and i'm sure they have done a great job with online and single player, but I can't get excited about another FPS. Bring back point and click games.

I thought FPS' basically were point and click games, especially on the PC.

Honestly, the PS3 needs a very high profile FPS as Resistance doesn't seem to be the series to get people to put down Halo. Personally, I find the Resistance story to be much better (and original) than Halo's, but I am not a huge FPS fan, so I only played through about half of Resistance.

A widespread, highly acclaimed exclusive game is something the system needs. Making it an FPS will only draw in more people.

No im talking more like Broken Sword, Monkey Island, Discworld, Beneath a Steel Sky, day of the tentacle, Syberia and Grim fandango.

Games that have great stories and great puzzles.
