Thank you! Yeah, I thought about the fin but its one of the few things I have no idea how to implement without making it look super clunky. I've never been fan of the fin anyway so I simply say the car is a pre-fin era build. :D

Another thing I could not implement is the fender cutouts, so it does not look good with Le Mans 2015. :P

A bunch of these maybe?

The problem is making the fin join the rear bonnet/cockpit area seamlessly which I have not been able to achieve with the current design. I could slim down the entire rear cockpit area/bonnet with the part you've linked and make it 7 wide so I can slip the fin right through (The engines there though) while staying centered. I don't know if thats possible without screwing up the flow of the design though.

Hm, I think I'll give it a try.

Lego tech talk FTW!

Here you go, a big honking fin. Its kind of a rough edit so its still rough around the edges, but I'm not sure if I can make the rear cockpit much more smoother than this. Its really hard to make smooth transitions with Lego, let alone with the half-brick-width offset from the fin.
I also had to modify the engine air intake...

I like the swan neck rear wing without the fin version much better.

I'm pretty sure big name LMP1 teams are already watching this thread very closely and stealing design ideas from me as we speak.

No I won't post any pics of the suspension and underwing!!!! Quick, get me some sheets! :scared:

I totally see it coming - The trick of winning Le Mans 2015: A Lego monocoque.

Hey, it weighs 900 grams instead of kilos! Talk about innovation!

I just ordered all the parts, 850 bricks for 120 bucks. Took me a while to find all the necessary parts, 80% comes from LEGO while the rest comes from various sources like Ebay and Amazon. Ordering all the stuff was harder than building the actual model. :scared:

I hear you, I loved the LDD order option and hoped for an ever increasing brick palette - and what did they do instead? They shut it down. :ouch:

I order the bricks via Pick a Brick now, but its a pain in the behind especially when ordering the bricks for bigger models. I think I spent 3 freaking hours on the pick a brick site to get all the 800 parts (200 individual parts), double checking and remembering hundreds of 7-digit brick ID numbers. If you want to build a model via Pick a Brick you really have to mean it. That sure as hell tests your patience. :indiff:

They got rid?

Is there even any point in getting LDD anymore? (That's a serious question)

You could ask the same question about all the CAD programs. Yes, I use LDD to build all my Lego models, its a great program.

Officials said the program has gotten to complex for their customer base and they weren't happen with the quality (whatever that means) so they removed the order function.
They said they'd replace it with something more user friendly in the future. (Nothing has happened so far)

Doesn't make any sense though, the program is extremely easy to use, you can't get easier than drag'n drop. Its a wonderful program with very few bugs considering its size.

There were lots of little digs at the Academy in tonight Oscars about the Lego snub. ;) Also great performance of Everything is Awesome.

I wanna make my own Lego LMP car. @Michael88, If it's still a possibility, could you possibly show me the frame/chassis of your design so I can get some ideas rolling?

So, I ordered all the parts, a major chore but here its, a physical version of my (modified) LMP build. 860 parts. Its always wonderful when a computer designed model turns out great in real life too.

It has a swan neck rear wing, working front and rear underwings, a completely detailed cockpit, removable bodywork to reveal the V8 engine + airbox and some other minor goodies.

Sure, I'll post a screenshot of the frame in the Lego designer. Would be cool if members built their own LMP's for the 2015 24 hours of Le Mans race. ;)

I will most definitely try my hand at Lego Le Mans. I may start with an Open top Prototype similar to the Oreca 03.

What will be the name of yours?

I may have a go at doing my own Garage 56 entry.

@Michael88 That looks even better in the flesh. I don't like gooseneck spoilers, but it suits it so much better than one of those sheets of plywood (fin).

Just remember, no jet engines! :sly: Like I said, it would be really cool if people here built their own cars for Le Mans 2015.

Sounds like a plan! The Oreca has a lot of difficult angles though, this is going to be challenging! Good luck!

Requested pics of the base of the car, but some parts are missing. But you get the idea.

And here a pic of it in daylight, looks much more shiny. :dopey:

No idea....naming my creations is always the hardest part :scared:

I've begun the car I have christened the HAT LLM-1 (Stands for Lego Le Mans)

HAT LLM-1 (Dimensions and tub).png

The red bits are the dimensions that I shall try to follow. (The right part of the car is the front)

I am basing this car off of the Oreca 03:

Completion deadline for this car is May, as I want to order it for my birthday.

Had a romantic evening in the city on Friday night. Stayed in a nice hotel, had an expensive meal and watched the limited release of Blade Runner Final Cut at the Cinema and my fiancée took me to the Lego store and bought me this...
