Oh, well I wonder what the specifics on the new standard are. I wouldn't be surprised if they still have the hard limit on the number of inputs, though.

You're right about that. But there's a small chance things could change. Check out the addendum to Thomas' post:

UPDATE
Please note that the maximum amount of buttons to be used on Xbox One is currently limited by the console but there are plans for a new extended protocol which allows more functionality.
We also have an button mapping issue on PC but this will be fixed in a future fw release.

I'm going to preorder. Anyone else? I'm really looking forward to this new wheel. It seems great. I won't be getting the shifter with it yet though, that's a lot of money.

Ugh, Microsoft and their weirdness. Whatever.

---

$400 is simply not justifiable enough for a wheel that costs the price of the system itself and is technically a downgrade compared to its previous iterations. (No shifter.)

With the PS4 version having the RPM lights (assuming it works on PS4 and not just PC), I wonder if we'll see a Thrustmaster add-on that includes that capability.

$400 is just insane to buy a wheel that functions almost exactly like a $200 G27, just to get PS4 compatibility. And they had the nerve to not include the shifter on top of that! Just incredible!

I was really looking forward to doing some PS4 racing and nobody can seem to come out with a decent wheel for a decent price. Everything is either really cheap in both quality and price or really expensive and not even any better than a last gen G25-27.

Wheel racing this gen is becoming really frustrating. This might be what pushes me to PC. Then I can just keep using my PWTS.

Actually Logitech has been quietly raising the MSRP of the G27 over the last year or two. Right now it shows $299: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/gaming-controllers

So we are comparing a $300 PS3/PC wheel which includes shifter to a $400 PS3/4/PC wheel which doesn't. Let's assume the G29 will sell for $350 or less in reality, rather like Thrustmaster wheels sell for at least $50 below MSRP within a few months after launch.

The one thing this launch tells me is that a DFGT upgrade can also be expected. Perhaps aligned with GT7 launch?

At £300 for a G29, Logitech can simply sod off. Guess I'll be sticking to arcade racers on a pad this generation. Gaming these days has really gone to 🤬.

So while everyone is yabbering on about the price, which although absurd, is viable if you KNOW you're sinking the money into it and it will last forever, there's another thing that concerns me.

Well, not concerns me, but :censored:s me off. This "two versions" rubbish. First off, the Xbone only version being the PC one as well. Why? Oh, driver compatibility or something along those lines. Not a good enough excuse. First off we loose functions, the on the fly traction control adjustment, as well as whatever else those two DFGT style knobs control as per programming. Why must PC players loose out on those functionality. Also, what if we own an Xbox and a ps4, and want to play Forza on one, and GT on the other. We have to buy two wheels? 🤬 off Dodgitech. Obvious marketing ploy is obvious.

Apologies for the French in this post but this marketing rubbish ticks me off something chronic, especially when it's this blatantly obvious. I want this wheel badly but I don't want to play the same price for a less functional wheel for my PC, and then have to buy another just to fit my consoles (if I ever got a fit in my head to buy an Xbox, which I doubt, but that's beside the point).

I'm buying a G29, PS3/PS4 version, and I'm converting it to run on PC. Don't care how I do it, it's happening. I want the extra stuff and I don't want to have to buy two wheels. I'll use the G29 pc drivers and mod them with DFGT code I guess, idk. I'll figure out something, I'm cranky.

It's funny man. We have all these great new racing games coming out (pCARS, AC, FM6, etc) yet they still try to limit us with a $400 wheel. Blasphemy.

The great games is what makes this so difficult to deal with. I'm dying to play PCARS but I don't want to use a controller. (I heard Fanatec got support but needs a patch to fix it). I'd rather have a fully supported wheel but I'm not going to dish out $400 for it. I'd rather just spend that on a gaming PC and never have to buy anything else but new games.

The need for two wheels if you run GT6/7 and Iracing is rather absurd. That said, I'll reserve final judgement until I see a teardown. Unless they replaced the achilles heel that is the plastic main bearing housing with at least a stamped steel piece, they will likely lose a 5-time repeat customer to a brand I don't care for.

A wheel is a wear item, and while I'm a huge fan of Logitech and have been very loyal to them the past decade and a half, their 'new' product offering has me looking at their competitors. If the feedback is increased as implied, these wheels may eat themselves up at an accelerated rate.

@tlowr4, from what I'm reading on the specs sheet is that the G29 does have PC compatibility. It's just Logitech who is hiding it.

Also with the same hardware than the g27. Shouldn't the g27 than also be usable on ps4 with the g29 driver?
Its just the same hardware so it should be able to use the driver

£300 :dunce:, Seems Logitech have no interest in selling any G29 units at all :boggled: Fools

you can pick up a T300 for £250 at the sec and I honestly can't stress enough how much better the wheel is than any Logitech wheel using this stone age technology!!!

I expect the price of the G29 to drop drastically in the next few month as at the moment it is absurd:tdown:

Yes, it should be, but I doubt it will, when looking at the rest of the marketing strategy for two similar wheels :grumpy:

Couldn't agree more.

I picked up a T500 RS 2 and a half years a go for £285 on a Black Friday deal. That means I picked up a T500 and TH8A for not much more than the G29 + shifter will cost. That's just ridiculous.

My G25 was worn out after 3 years, although I did use it a lot, but my T500 still feels like new.

At €400 Logitech may have just caused a sale for a T300. I'm getting a new wheel in July, and I was all set to buy the G29, but I just can't see it now. How can this be that expensive, especially after dropping the shifter?

I would expect actual sale prices to be lower as they have historically been for logitech relative to the MSRP. Prior to launch of a product, announcing an inflated price can be advantageous to generating investment revenue, especially if the investors have a long time relationship with the company and are basing futures off of historical sales figures. Similar reason you see some games announce patches to economy-breaking glitches that aren't truly patched yet. Protect the value, even if it is only perception. That is why I didnt address the price concern in my above post; it is too early to tell if well-founded or not.

G29 + Shifter = $459.98

T300 + Shifter or T3PA Pedals = ~$550

Fanatec Porsche 911 GT2 + Pedals = $449.85

Well, I think I know what I'm getting...

A fun thing to notice is that they also increased the MRSP of the G27, at least over here in the Netherlands.
Last year it was €303, now it's €350. They really need to lower the price of the G29 if they want to sell that bloody thing. Although I kinda like the G29, I like the looks of the G27 more. I still experience a lot of fun using my G27. I love that wheel and hope that it'll get PS4 support.

I'd be happy to pay £20-25 for a security chip thing enabling my DFGT to work on the PS4, but it seems I instead have to either spend £300+ and upgrade to a T300/G29 or spend £115 on a T100 which is way inferior to what I have and also double what I paid for my DFGT. Throw in 'DLC culture' and its not hard to see how Gaming has become a massive :censored:ing rip off.
This hobby is becoming way too expensive. 400 € for a steering wheel that looks like a toy.

Owning the G25, GT2 and T300, I know which of those three combinations I prefer. Personally I'd rank the GT2 last.... The best component in your list is without doubt the TH8A. I absolutely love mine!

Maybe the time is right for another games industry crash so everything is reset in both games and official accessories.

So you'd still rank the T300 first even with reliability issues?

Having a DFGT, either of those two would be a good step up for me. I just have worries about T300 reliability.
