i have to add to this.im not sure but judging by the promo, jack and locke have a fight about pushing the button. And, the promo makes it look like they dont pust the button and so the (different) timer gets to zero. im gonna presume the episode ends there(seems obvious). if im wrong, please correct me.
The ABC write-up is very vague and misses way too many details. That's why I do my own with my thoughts and questions included.

As for the clock, well let's just say that the promos are VERY deceiving at times.

Yeah, i'm not overly happy with that summary, i got confused half way through and it does feel that there's a load left out.

*waits for this afternoon*

In the words of Sawyer, "It's all in the details."

i do agree with you that the ABC write-up isn't brilliant (what the hell does the end paragraph mean??) but for people who don't download the episodes its all they have.

just waiting for yours coz my download speed is really slow

FoolKiller's writeups are some fo the best you'll find for Lost, not to mention the thought-provoking questions at the end :dopey: The ABC thing just looks like a plot summary rather than a writeup.

Well, this had to be one of the vaguest summaries I have seen in a while. It left out every major important point in the episode.

I am starting to type the write-up now. I have to wait until halfway through my work day for things to slow down enough to get it all typed up at once.

ok just watched episode 14. Locke dosent insert the code soon enough. the timer goes weird and you hear some kind of engine starting up. then he puts the last number in and presses execute. the timer then goes back to 108 mins.

pic of timer:

WTF!!!what the hell does that mean??? any ideas??? i have no ideas

EDIT: had 1 idea. omething to do with wildlife (the bird). maybe something to do with the others?

The best my wife and I could some up with was elements (earth, fire, wind, water) From right to left - Divining rod - water, bird - wind, campfire - fire and no clue for the other 2.

Here you guys go.

(SPOILER ALERT)

Episode 14: One of Them.
This is centered around Sayid.

FLASHBACK:

We get started in Iraq during Desert Storm. We see Sayid and some other Iraqi soldiers destroying documents when US soldiers break into the room. Sayid and another soldier quickly drop to the ground and cover their heads while the soldiers yell at them in English to stop and get on the ground. The third Iraqi continues to destroy documents. The US soldiers argue about them understanding English and finally one decides that they can understand and then threatens to kill the Iraqi still standing. Finally Sayid jumps up and yells at the third Iraqi that if he doesn't stop they will kill him. The man stops and gets on the ground.

The American soldiers later pull Sayid out of a holding cell to ask him about his commanding officer who must know about a missing helicopter pilot. Sayid says that his commanding officer fled. They call his bluff by pushing him into a room where his commander is being held captive. They then explain to Sayid that they want him to translate their interrogations for them. He explains that he has never formally been a translator and the soldier says the fact that he even knows what formally means is good enough.

While Sayid attempts to translate the interrogation his commander just constantly insults the Americans or tells Sayid that he is being unloyal and has lost all honor. Sayid repeatedly tells the Americans that he doesn't know where the pilot is.

After time they take him to meet another man, played by Clancy Brown (Highlander, Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers). This man introduces himself as Joe Inman. Inman tells Sayid that he understands he is remaining loyal but that they need their helicopter pilot back. He then explains to Sayid that his commander oversaw the use of sarin gas on a small town in Northern Iraq. Inman then shows Sayid a video of the attack and Sayid recognizes it as the town that he grew up in. After he turns the video off Sayid appears visibly upset and asks what he can do. Inman hands him a tool box and tells him he wants the information.

Sayid goes back to his commander and asks him for the information again. His commander tells him that he should kill himself because of his dishonor. Sayid shows him what he has and all emotion but anger is gone from his face. In the next scene Sayid walks out and tells Inman that the pilot was killed and buried in a field four kilometers away, he can show them where. He then hands Inman the tool box back and his hands are covered in blood.

In the final scene Sayid is in a convoy with US troops. The soldier sitting across from him is staring at a picture and asks Sayid if he has a family, kids. Sayid says no and then we see the picture. It appears to be a young Kate. (Could this be Kate's stepfather, who was in the military or a coincidence?)

The convoy comes to a stop and Inman takes Sayid to the side of the road while explaining that they aren't going into Baghdad and Saddam gets to stay in power. Sayid explains to him that he will never do that again, but Inman merely explains to Sayid that he has a new skill and he may find a time comes when he needs to know something. Then Inman hands Sayid a wad of cash (looked like $800) and tells him it is for bus fare back home. Sayid stands out on the side of the road watching the convoy drive away.

(This took place before Sayid's flashback with Nadia because there he was using his new torturing skills that he had learned from the Americans. Curious twist how he learned to torture from the Americans.)

THE ISLAND: - When You Need To Know Something

In the opening we see Ana come running out of the Jungle and asking Sayid where Jack is. Sayid says he doesn't know but asks what is going on. Ana leads him into the jungle where we see Danielle walking toward the camp. Sayid tells Ana to go back to camp, he will handle this and she shouldn't tell anyone what she has seen.

Sayid, sneaky as he is, gets up on Danielle and pops up in front of her, surprising her. (After Shannon's death one would think he would know better than to surprise people with guns.) Anyway, he asks her what she is doing and she says that she is looking for him; she wants to show him something.

Danielle leads Sayid deep into the jungle and eventually they come to a man trapped in a net hanging from a tree. Danielle believes that he is an Other, but Sayid is not so sure. Sayid goes to cut the man down. Before he can cut him down the man explains that he has been in there all night and then tells Sayid to keep Danielle away, she is crazy. What has she done to him overnight?

When Sayid cuts the man down he tries to run. Danielle whips out a bow and arrows that she had strapped to her back and shoots the man through the shoulder. Sayid yells that she could have killed him and she says, "If I had wanted to kill him I would have," as if it was obvious. (I'm suspicious of Danielle, but she is definitely bad ass)

Sayid then takes the man to hatch, because if they want information Jack needs to keep him alive. Danielle stays behind. While at the hatch Sayid and Locke begin to question the man about who he is and where he came from. He says that his name is Henry Gale and he arrived on the island four months ago when he and his wife crashed in a balloon. (In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy's uncle was named Henry Gale and Dorothy went home in a balloon.) They were trying to fly across the Pacific and they were from Minnesota.

At this point Jack comes in and breaks up the interrogation. He looks at Henry and asks Sayid if he shot him with an arrow and Sayid asks if he has a bow. Jack begins to work on Henry and Sayid and Locke sneak off to the side to talk. Sayid convinces Locke to change the combination on the armory so that he can take Henry in there and Jack can't stop him.

During this conversation Jack helps Henry by removing the arrow battlefield style, without painkillers. (Jack has skills.)

Once Jack gets Henry taken care of he calms down a lot due to the shock. Sayid asks Jack about Henry and then with Locke's interference quickly grabs Henry and runs him into the armory.

Jack tries to get in to the armory but can't. Locke changed the combination. Jack starts to argue with Locke, but Locke explains to Jack that he was building an army because they were in a war. This was part of war.

Alone with Henry, Sayid begins to ask him question after question. He asks him about the type of balloon and how big it was. His questions continue on to their shelter, where they were, and how his wife died. Henry explains that she died from a sickness. (THE sickness?) Henry is even able to give details of the symptoms.

At this point Jack and Locke are still arguing when Jack looks down and sees that the pliers are missing. He asks Locke if Sayid has them and then begins to bang on the armory door.

Sayid finally makes Henry stumble when he asks him about where his wife was buried, how he dug the hole, and how deep it was. Did he use his hands? Henry says where she was buried but stumbles on details of the hole. He says that he doesn't know. Sayid asks to see his hands and then puts the pliers on one of his fingers. (The camera angle prevents us from seeing if he actually tries crushing, but Henry's lack of screams makes me think that he didn't.) Sayid snaps and begins yelling that if he had to bury the woman he loved he would remember where, how deep the hole was, and all the other details of her burial.

At this point Henry asks if Sayid had lost someone on the island, if he had to bury someone he loved and then asks for details. (This seems very counter-interrogation style to me. Insult your interrogator and break their concentration before they can break your will.) Sayid begins punching Henry and he is begging for Sayid to stop, he will tell him whatever he wants to hear. Sayid doesn't stop.

Outside Jack hears the screaming and the struggles and pushes Locke against the wall demanding that he open the armory. Locke says no, but then the alarm sounds. Locke tries to go push the button but Jack holds him against the wall. Jack tells Locke that he got him to push the button once but it is Locke's button now because he doesn't believe anything happens when it counts down to zero.

At 30 seconds Locke starts to give Jack the code but Jack tells him to open it so that there are no tricks. Locke gets the armory door open and runs for the button as Jack pulls Sayid off of Henry. Locke sits down at the computer and starts to type the code in but makes mistakes and has to correct them.

The clock hits zero. (Yes, our clock. Not the one in the promo) After it hits zero a sound like an engine starting up, or maybe a door sliding (blast doors?). The numbers turn to symbols that look like hieroglyphics. (I could make out a bird, a flame, and an arrow/missile I missed the fourth visible one.) Before the final digit turned to a symbol Locke gets the button pushed and the timer resets as the sound winds back down.

Jack drags Sayid out of the armory and then shuts the door, but not before Henry gives Sayid an odd look. (It wasn't hate or anger. More like a taunt)

Later Sayid is on the beach telling Charlie about what happened. Sayid explains that he doesn't believe Henry because he felt no guilt in what he did. Charlie asks why he is telling him all this and Sayid says because Locke and Jack have forgotten that they took Claire and left Charlie strung up for dead. We close on Sayid asking Charlie if he still remembers. (Charlie knows where the guns are.)

SIDE STORY: - Sawyer vs. Nature part 2

We see Sawyer trying to sleep but there is a tree frog that won't shut up. Sawyer must think that all nature hates his guts. He gets up and stomps out of his tent. He sees Jin walk by and he tries to ask Jin to help him find the frog. Jin gives him a not-nice look and walks off. (He does seem connected to the attack on Sun, plus he stole all the guns)

Sawyer decides to go find the frog on his own. While walking through the jungle he wanders into an opening where he finds Hurley reading and dipping chips into a HUGE (3-5 gallons) jug of ranch dressing. (WTF!) Sawyer checks it out and finds Hurley has a huge supply of food stashed away from the hatch. He points out that ranch dip really should be refrigerated but Hurley points out that the label says it is good for seven months. :yuck:

Hurley begs Sawyer not to tell and Sawyer makes a deal; Hurley helps him find the tree frog and Sawyer keeps his secret. Hurley agrees. While they are wandering Sawyer calls Hurley Babar (a children's book elephant) and Hurley corrects his pronunciation and gets mad, threatening to stomp off. He tells Sawyer that he can tell because no one will be surprised that the fat guy is hiding food, besides everyone likes Hurley.

Sawyer apologizes and then goes off to keep looking for the frog. Eventually they run across the frog and Sawyer picks it up. He thinks it is actually kind of cute and seems happy. Hurley offers to take the frog two beaches away where it will find a lady frog and everyone is happy. Sawyer's response is to crush the frog in his hand. He then gives it to Hurley saying that he hears they taste like chicken when dipped in ranch.

---------------------

Okay, so we got a good episode and probably the most suspenseful Lost moment of all time in the countdown sequence.

I think Henry is an Other. The name and balloon connection is suspicious and he was too clean shaven to have been stuck for 4 months on the island. At most I will believe that he came to the island the way he says but he has been absorbed into the Others since then. Besides, when Sayid was interrogating Locke about the hatch and the plane he told Locke that he knows when someone is lying. I trust his instinct.

Is Sayid trying to build his own army with Charlie? Will he create one out of those who have felt the Others effects personally (tailies)? Or does Sayid just sort of know that Charlie knows where Sawyer has the guns?

Questions:
1) Who is Henry?
2) What is Danielle up to?
3) Will Sayid get to torture Henry more?
4) Does Jack trust Henry?
5) Does Locke trust Henry?
6) What the hell was up with the timer when the time ran out?
7) What was that sound?
8) What was it going to do, if anything?
9) Is Charlie on Sayid's side and looking for revenge?
10) Will Charlie take Sayid to the guns?
11) WTF is going on!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

What do you guys think?

mentalabc123 thanks for the pic. The woman that runs Lost-Media.com is out of town until the 19th and so there are no screen captures up yet. It looks like hieroglyphs.

Excelent as always, FoolKiller. I have one correction. The ranch dressing wasn't good for 7 months. It was 7 YEARS. Those are some high quality preservatives.

Doh! Really? Sorry, my wife was talking. She doesn't watch Lost and thinks that talking to me during the show is just fine.

She doesn't even catch the hint when I ask her what was just said, because I missed it. She did that last night when Sayid was interrogating Henry and I asked what he just said and she goes, "He isn't who he says he is. That's where they're going with this, honey."

No 🤬 !!! She complains that it is too complex to try and follow along all the time and then won't let me do it.

I will rewatch tonight when I edit it on to DVD.

Behold the beauty of your wife watching it with you and having TiVo. :dopey:

Great writeup thanks :)

I believe those are Egyptian glyphs on the clock. I was bored so spent a few minutes looking around at images of glyphs and alphabets etc. (ok i got a little carried away and spent an hour), and have come to the conclusion that:

They've opened a entrance way to some mountain (or large structure of Pyramid form, or the sea(?)) and everyone will gain from it however probably in a negative way because they've unleased a virus (the sickness?).

Like i said, i was bored ok? ;)

Yes, they're Egyptian hyroglyphs. Someone actually did some digging and found the exact phrase that was being displayed in some Egyptian textbook or something (and by exact, I mean EXACT.. even the styling of the symbols was completely identical). While I haven't seen a full translation yet, it loosely translates as "cause to die".

What this did tell us is that something happens when the timer runs out. We just don't know what that "something" is yet.

That was actually what I was most excited to see in this episode. As for the Henry thing, I agree with Sayid.. he's one of the Others. University of Minnesota? Just a coincidence that the Dharma Initiative was started at the University of Minnesota? I think not. :)

It's interesting that one of the Others got himself captured, though. He was probably a bit lax, knowing that he was a good distance away from the Survivors' camp. He didn't take into account Danielle, though. I refer to Danielle as one of the "wild cards" on the island. Her and Desmond aren't there by any plan, and they're independant of both of the main "groups" on the island. Impossible for either side to predict what they're going to do.

They've opened a entrance way to...
It could have opened up the wall to the geothermal generator, I suppose.

And Jedi2016, I believe Dharma was started in Michigan, not Minnesota. I could be wrong, though. Regardless, they are right next door to each other. He very well could be from Minnesota and gone to school in Michigan.

TB
And Jedi2016, I believe Dharma was started in Michigan, not Minnesota. I could be wrong, though.
You are correct. Dharma was started by the DeGroots, grad students at the University of Michigan. This is also where the band Geronimo Jackson was founded.

I am believeing nothing that Mr. Henry Gale is saying. The balloon story is suspicious considering the name coincidence and the fact that there was a picture of a hot air balloon on the wall in the hatch. Henry Gale's new nickname shall be Verbal Kent aka Kesyer Soze. (The Usual Suspects - 1995 for those who have no clue what I am talking about)

Michigan, Minnesota, whatever.. hehe. Somebody mentioned it on another forum and I didn't bother to go back to double-check it. :)

I do agree ol' boy's up to to no good, though. He was probably hoping they would ask him to take them to the balloon, and then he'd just vanish into the jungle. They have a knack for that.

Next episode airs on March 1st.

just reading the spoiler section at lost-forum.com, and i found this.

(click thumbnail to see screenhot of forum)

there was a thread that basically said this person had been to the set of LOST (he had a disability or summin) and got the chance to read the script for ep17.

the person who read the script was told not to tell anyone else about what he had read. i think you can guess what he did. the thread at lost-forum.com tells you the main 3 spoilers he posted on some other forum. here they are:

1. towards the end of the episode(ep 17) we find out how desmond didnt run out of food.

2.sayid, ana-lucia and charlie go looking for henry's balloon. what they find is a bit 'told ya so'

3. look out for WIDMORE INDUSTRES in upcoming episodes, flashbacks AND on the island.

(click the thumbnail for more info)

so i reckon (if these spoilers are true) that henry is connected to WIDMORE INDUSTRIES and that they built the hatches (so theyre connected to dharma). when they find his balloon it'll say either dharma or widmore industries on it. sayid will tourture henry and he will tell him loads about dharma and WIDMORE INDUSTRIES. probably won't happen but oh well.

mentalabc123
there was a thread that basically said this person had been to the set of LOST (he had a disability or summin) and got the chance to read the script for ep17.
This is why I love this show. Now we all sit and wait and wonder for at least a month, lobger if they have more reruns, whether or not this is true. I want to call BS but the Widmore Industries thing seems too detailed. Of course, the fact that the original poster conveniently had to delete his posts and then disappeared seems suspicious as well.

I take all of these things with a grain of salt. If this is a leak it is opn purpose. The producers have been keeping things too close to the cuff and I've heard that teh actors don't get teh entire script, just their parts. It would be interesting to see where this guy got this much from.

All I can say is wait and see.

The only spoliers I accept are those that come from the producers' own mouths and then a poster on the ABC forums known as InsiderScoop. He has yet to mislead. Everything else needs to be looked at warily no matter how good the details. I've seen some pretty detailed lies, even here at GTP.
*cough* BlazinExtreme *cough*

Watch this space for my write-up. Never fear it is coming.

Or read this:

Sod it! We got on to a new page so to avoid confusion I just gave it a new post.

If you haven't seen it yet, it was a great episode.

Indeed it was a great one.

I liked Eko before. Now I like him even more.

EPISODE RECAP

Episode 15 (9 more to go) – Maternity Leave
This is a Claire-centric episode.

FLASHBACK: - How Much Can We Learn?

For the first time ever the flashbacks occur within the island timeline. Claire is beginning to get her memories back from the kidnapping.

Claire remembers waking up to a doctor using a sonogram machine and telling her that the baby is fine. The doctor then walks over to a refrigerator and pulls out a syringe and vial. The vial has the DHARMA logo and the numbers, just like the ones that Desmond had in the hatch and took with him. The doctor says it is a vaccine for the baby to help him out. During this the camera pans up and we see the doctor's face. It is Ethan.

We see Ethan give Claire the shot at least two individual times (we see it many times due to her reliving the scenes over and over). On the second time Claire asks if he has to because it really hurts. He explains that it is for the baby's sake. He has a good bedside manner. During the conversations it becomes obvious that Claire is drugged. She is smiling goofy and acting drunk.

Ethan then says he wants to show Claire something and takes her out of the examining room. As they go down the hall Claire looks through an entryway that leads to a passage leading up, an exit. Ethan pulls her away and shows her to a nursery, the room for the baby. In the nursery is a crib with a mobile. The mobile has Oceanic jets on it, just like the one she had bought before her boyfriend dumped her. When she turns it on it plays "Catch a Falling Star," the song Claire wanted the adoptive parents to sing to the baby. (Way too many coincidences for me.)

While Claire is looking at the nursery someone comes to the door and asks to speak to Ethan. The voice is familiar, sounds like Zeke. Ethan asks what he wants and the man says that he was supposed to get a list and then bring her in. (Goodwin made a list) The camera pans just enough for us to see the man. It is Zeke. He is clean-cut, shaven, and wearing normal clothes, but it is Zeke. (Ethan IS an Other) Ethan explains that they had a flight manifest and found him out. He couldn't help it. Zeke asks what he is supposed to tell Him. (Who is Him? Alvar Hanso? DeGroot? So many possibilities.) Zeke sees Claire looking and listening and shuts the door.

Later Ethan comes into the nursery where Claire has just finished knitting a bootie for the baby and looks proud of herself. Ethan offers to take her for a walk. They walk off into the jungle for a bit and sit on a log while they talk. Claire suddenly remembers Charlie and asks what happened to him. Ethan explains that he let him go back to the camp. Then he asks Claire to take a drink from his canteen. Claire takes a swig and mentions that it tastes sour. Ethan sniffs at it and shrugs. Then he discuses them taking Claire's baby and letting her go back to camp, but not unless she wants them to. They seem to be developing a friendship here.

Claire is suddenly woken up by a girl, maybe 16-18 years old. The girl tells her that she has to get out. She shows Claire down the hallway where they are turning the examining room into a surgical room. The girl says they will remove her baby and she will die. She has to go. Claire doesn't believe her. The girl chloroforms her and says that she will thank her later.

Claire wakes up in the woods and starts yelling for Ethan and saying that she wants to let them have her baby. Danielle appears behind her. Claire sees Danielle and asks who she is. Danielle tries to quiet her and tell her that she is going to help, but Claire wants to go back, she is still obviously drugged. Claire hears Ethan yelling for her and Claire screams for him. Danielle grabs Claire but she jerks away scratching Danielle's arm. (We have seen this before)[/COLR] Claire falls to the ground and Danielle hits her in the head with the butt of her gun knocking her out.

MAIN STORY: Remembering

Claire wakes up to Aaron crying. She wakes Locke and tells him to go get Jack because Aaron is sick, he has a fever. Locke goes to the hatch where Jack is sleeping on the sofa. (Must be nice when everyone else is sleeping on the beach) Locke wakes Jack and tells him about Claire worrying about her baby. Jack grabs his bag and heads out the door.

Claire is standing by herself waiting for Jack when she turns around and sees Danielle walking towards her. She starts screaming at her to get away, she knows that she tried to take her back. Danielle seems surprised and asks if that is really what she thinks. Claire begins getting snippets and images of her memories back. Before anything else can be said Kate comes running up and tells Danielle to get out of the camp and that she has a lot of nerve for being there.

As Danielle leaves Jack comes up and asks what happened. While they explain Jack checks out Aaron and says that he is fine it is just a common fever and rash that babies can get. It will work itself out. Claire having had flashes of Ethan sticking her stomach with a needle isn’t so sure.

The next morning Claire finds Libby out with Hurley (Go Hugo, go Hugo!) and asks if she is a shrink. Libby attempts to correct her terminology but says that shrink will do. Claire tells her that she is having problems remembering and she wants her to help, she needs to fight through her amnesia. Libby explains that she might just be having a defense mechanism and her brain is protecting her from dealing with trauma. Claire is adamant that Libby help so she agrees.

Libby takes Claire away from the camp and helps her to meditate, putting her into a nearly hypnotic state. Claire remembers the first part of her ordeal and flashes of other things, including the young girl and then begins screaming that it is Ethan. Kate, who was watching Aaron, comes running and when Claire begins telling them what she remembered they seem worried. Claire wants Libby to help her more but Libby refuses as it seems to traumatize her.

Claire tells Kate that she wants to find Danielle and have Danielle show her where they took her so that she can get more medicine for Aaron. Kate tries to explain to her that Danielle isn’t an Other, but she is crazy. Claire won’t take no for an answer.

Kate goes to Sawyer to try and get a gun but tells him that he can't ask why. Sawyer corrects her and tells her that he has the gun and he can ask why. He also points out that he found another set of glasses that are close to his prescription. A small way of showing he doesn't need her now that she doesn't like him anymore. Kate explains what is going on and Sawyer agrees, asking whether she wants a 9mm or a rifle. She takes the 9mm..

Kate and Claire go looking for Danielle. When they find her Claire demands that she take her to where she was found. She says that she is remembering things now, including the needles, Ethan, and a teenage girl. At this mention Danielle pauses and then agrees.

Danielle takes them into the jungle for a bit and then says that this is where she found her. Claire gets angry saying that she wants her to take her back to the lab, back to where she was trying to take her back to them. Danielle grabs her yelling that she doesn't remember anything and before things can accelerate anymore the sound of Kate cocking the gun stops them both.

Kate orders Danielle to get away from her but Danielle just walks right into the gun until it is touching her chest and asks Kate to please do it. (Crazy much?) Kate just stares at her shocked. How do you control a woman who welcomes death?

During all this Claire has wandered off until she sees a log lying on the ground. She recognizes the log as the one that Ethan had let her sit on when they went for a walk. She begins to try and retrace her steps. Kate comes running after her and Danielle kind of saunters along behind them at her own pace.

Clare runs across a tarp covered in branches lying over something. Kate helps her removes the branches and the tarp to reveal a new hatch with a DHARMA logo. This one has the universal medical symbol of a snake on a staff.

Kate and Claire open the door and go in. The lights are mostly out but they find flashlights nearby. When they get to the central passage Claire begins to wander towards the room that contained the nursery while Kate goes to find a way to turn on the lights. Danielle silently follows behind Claire.

As they go into the nursery the lights come on, presumably Kate found the switch, even though we never see this. Claire finds the little bootie and puts it in her pocket. Danielle asks her what this is and Claire explains it was the nursery for her baby.

Kate after apparently finding the lights wanders and investigates. She finds a locker room. In one of the lockers she finds ragged, dirty looking clothes and a box containing theatrical glue and a fake beard just like Zeke appears to have been wearing. (The Others are not savages as they appeared.)

We see Claire run into the room that held the examination room and the refrigerator is lying face-down on the floor. She tries to pick it up but could not do it by herself. She asks Danielle for help but Danielle appears to be out of it a bit. Claire then yells for Kate who leaves her discovery behind and runs to Claire's aid. They get the refrigerator upright but it is empty. Claire turns on Danielle asking her what they did with the vaccine. (Not that it matters much. Aaron is already sick and vaccines are not cures.) Danielle just ignores her and walks out.

Kate and Claire chase Danielle outside demanding answers. After they get back to the point where Danielle had led her Claire finally asks what her problem is and Danielle apologize, but Claire was not the only one who did not find what she wanted. Ant this moment Claire remembers the teenage girl getting her out and then Danielle trying to HELP her.

Claire realizes that she has been wrong about Danielle the whole time. (What about the whole kidnapping Aaron thing?) Danielle explains that she had carried Claire on her back all the way back to her camp and left her where they would find her. Claire apologizes to Danielle and then tells her that there was a teenage girl with dark hair and blue eyes (the camera focuses on Danielle's blue eyes at this point) that helped her escape when all the rest of them were trying to take her baby and kill her. If this girl is Alex she is not like the rest of them. She is good. Danielle thanks her and wanders off again.

Claire returns to camp where she left Aaron in Sun's care and he is getting better. Jack checks him out and says that he will be fine, but he will check back n a couple of hours to be sure. She Didn't need the "vaccine" after all.

SIDE STORY: Regaining the Path of Righteousness or Let's Play with Locke's Mind

We see Jack and Locke take Henry some food in the armory and offer to let him use the restroom. Henry declines the restroom, but Jack offers to let him go when he needs to. Locke leaves Henry a Dostoyevsky book and Henry asks if they have Stephen King. Locke informs him that the choices are limited. (Visual note: Henry's face is all kinds of different color shades from the beating he got from Sayid.)

When Jack and Locke get outside and relock the armory Jack asks Locke about the book and Locke tells him about how Hemingway was jealous of Dostoyevsky and felt that he would always be in his shadow, never the best. No matter how many cool things Hemingway did he could never shake that mindset. (Does this define how Locke feels about Jack? No matter what Locke does for everyone's benefit they still see Jack as the leader.)

Later we see Eko cutting down a tree with an axe. To show his manliness he only cuts it halfway and then shoves it down like a bear. (We get it now, you rock – So, what is he building? Church, shelter, defensive wall?) Eko then goes to the hatch to ask for a saw. His timing is bad because Henry is using the bathroom. Jack shuts the restroom door and tells him to be quiet. Eko finds Locke in the kitchen area and asks for the axe. Locke says no problem and asks him to follow him. Before following Locke looks into the armory, which looks well-lived in.

Later Eko approaches Jack outside the hatch and asks him who the man is inside the hatch. Jack thinks Locke told him but Eko assures him that he did not. Jack explains who Henry is without making an accusation either way. Eko asks to talk to him alone, and he won't take no for an answer.

Jack agrees and takes Eko to the hatch. Locke seems mildly surprised but shrugs it off. They let Eko into the armory telling Eko not to give him information and to knock when he wants out. If he hears the alarm he shouldn’t tell him what it does. Eko's response is, "What does it do?"

Without answer they let Eko into the armory and shut the door and lock it behind him. Henry is reclining and reading the book Locke had given him but sits up when Eko comes in. Eko introduces himself as Mr. Eko and then asks how he is. Henry whines about how he is being treated and about being a prisoner, but Eko merely explains it is because they do not trust him. Henry asks what reason they have for not trusting him.

Eko sits down at this point and tells how the first night on the island two men tried to drag him into the jungle but he fought back and ended up killing these two men by smashing their heads in with a rock. He explains that he is sorry and has made amends with his creator and that he is once again good and is back on the path of righteousness. When he sees his friends again he wants him to tell them that. Henry never once shows a sign of confusion nor does he deny having friends.

Once Eko is finished he pulls out his knife, looking very menacing. He then cuts off his beard braids and gives them to Henry. (What does this mean?)

Finally we see Locke bring Henry a bowl of fruit. Henry makes a snide comment about the food and Locke brushes it off. Then Henry asks if what Locke said about Hemingway is true. This makes Locke pause. He asks how Henry could hear that when he was locked in here. Henry explains that they have thin doors. (He also has an air vent. Those carry sound pretty well)

Locke explains the Hemingway story to Henry and Henry says that it doesn't make sense with all that Hemingway did, which he understands. Dostoyevsky he can't get. He then asks Locke if that is how he feels. (Can I nail it or what!?) Locke asks what he means and Henry says that he doesn't understand why he lets the doctor tell him what to do all the time. Locke says that Jack doesn't tell him what to do and then leaves.

When Locke gets out to the kitchen he starts shoving all the dishes off the counter in a fit of anger and then stands there with a brooding look about him. We see Henry in the armory hearing the loud crashing sounds of the dishes (This is pots and pans too). (What is he cooking? Boar?) Henry has a little smirk on his face.

My thoughts:

Okay, that little mind trip has cinched it for me. Henry is an Other. He is using way to many anti-interrogation techniques with personal stories and turning your guards against each other. If this whole thing is a DHARMA experiment then he is definitely messing with the results. That is bad science.

Seeing the costumes and the fake beard and then Zeke in the flashback in normal clothes and looking all clean-cut tells me the Others are not the island crazies we were led to believe that they are. They appear to live normal civilized lives, in the way we would call it that. This leads me to believe that they are DHARMA.

It is about time we got some friggin' answers! Now we know that Ethan and Goodwin were both Others but Danielle wasn't. Desmond is the only loose cannon left in this aspect, but he was all over the vaccine and seemed to have a goal when he ran off. He knows too much to fit his story.

Henry has been added to the loose cannons list, but I am 99.9% sure about him and even if they do find a balloon crashed next episode I still won't trust him. How many of the Others came to the island and got taken, then brainwashed?

Questions:

1) What is Eko building?
2) What is Eko's deal with the beard thing?
3) Are DHARMA and the Others the same?
4) Why do the Others hide who/what they are?
5) Could the island be a peninsula and the Others are keeping the Losties from going far enough to discover that so they can use them for experiments? They appear to be living in normal society or at least using their styles and tools.
6) Is Henry an Other or just vengeful?
7) Is Henry trying to create a factional split with Locke and Jack as leaders? Divide and conquer so to speak.
8) How do the Others know so much about the Losties, including their past before the island?
8a) ^Is the monster reading their memories and then taking them back to the Others for brainwashing and other covert techniques?
9) Who is Him?
10) WTF is going on!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Anyone else getting a headache when you try to wrap your brain around all this?

Discuss and post questions, links, and whatever else.

By the way, I know some of you visit the ABC boards some. Have any of you seen some of my posts there (rare but I do)? Do I come off as talking down to them? They ask some really dumb questions sometimes and I feel like I go off occasionally like a teacher getting fed up with a stupid student.

It's odd that a Gran Turismo site has more intelligent discussion and questions about the show than the dedicated Lost sites. Of course, they get a larger demographic mix and many more users.

[RANT] I get that at work a lot where the people I don't socialize with regularly because they are annoying start talking about things and seem to forget entire storylines week to week. They aren't even discussing it with me but I hear them over the cubicle farm, so I have to pop up and correct them in order to maintain my own sanity.

^That's another thing. Some people tape it and watch it later when there are sporting events on, like this past week (both major local basketball teams) and watch it later but these loud mouth women talk about it openly without concern for others. Not only are they giving spoilers for those who don't want to know but everyone else is still trying to work. When I talk about it with my friends I go to their cubicle and we keep it down. [/RANT]

OK, I'm finished.

Are Dharma and the Others the same?

That's always been my belief. I was under the impression that the Dharma Initiative had set up camp on the island years before, but that it was long-since over. That the Dharma crew had "gone savage" and abandoned the experiments, and were simply living on the island, doing their own thing. Maybe using the Dharma bunkers as shelter, but not much else.

We now know that this is partially wrong.. that Dharma is still alive and well and operating normally, at least in some of it's experiments. We know that the whole "savage" thing is just an act for the sake of the Survivors. But why?

And why are some of the experiments abandoned, but not others? There have been two bunkers supposedly abandoned by them.. the "Arrow" bunker that the Tailies stayed in, which was completely abandoned, and the "Swan" bunker that the Survivors are in. While that bunker is still "active" in a sense, it seems that Dharma hasn't had anything to do with it in quite some time. I wonder if they even care whether the button is pushed or not. If it was that important, you'd think they'd still be manning it themselves.

I also believe that Henry is one of the Others/Dharma. When I watched the episode with my friends, they responded immediately to his name, "Henry Gale". They even had me stop the episode to discuss it... Henry Gale was Dorothy's uncle's name in The Wizard of Oz. And of course the Wizard himself had a balloon. Awfully coincidental, yes? And, as mentioned, his uncanny ability to manipulate the Survivors. He seems to have succeeded on Locke, and he certainly tried on Sayid. I think he's scared of Eko, though, and with good reason.

It's interesting that we share the same thoughts on the "loose cannons" (what I call the "wild cards"). Danielle and Desmond. They're not Dharma, they're not part of the big group of Survivors. And I don't think either group is able to accurately predict what they're going to do. I think that's how Henry got himself captured. I don't think it was intentional, I think he was simply wandering around, thinking he was "safe" because he was far enough away from the Survivor's camp, and from where they thought Danielle's camp was. He let his guard down and got himself strung up like a rabbit. I think the "I'm just a poor castaway like you" routine is some kind of safety net that the Others use in case they inadvertantly run across the Survivors. A pre-fabricated story that they tell.

But I think there may be a third "wild card" out there, too. The Monster. For some reason, I got the impression in episode 10 that it's not under anyone's direct control anymore. I do believe that it was created by Dharma, but that it "escaped", perhaps in the "incident" at the Swan station mentioned in the Dharma film. Which may explain why the Others generally stay away from that part of the island.. they're afraid of it, too.

The other question that's now raised is the "infection" that Danielle mentioned. It now seems that it's quite real. I think that's what the "quarantine" warnings are for. And the vaccine that the Others take (I gathered that they're all on the vaccine). Although I don't think it's a vaccine per se, I think it's some kind of preventive drug that has to be taken regularly (a true vaccine only has to be taken once).

Which means they either make the stuff there on the island, or they're getting a regular supply of it from somewhere else. Which raises yet another question... food. It was mentioned on another website (one of the Lost sites, I believe, and maybe mentioned earlier in this thread), that Desmond's food supply at the Swan station seemed to be replenished regularly. The pantry wasn't that big, yet he'd been there for years, and Hurley was quite sure that what was in the pantry (which was pretty much full, you'll remember) would only have lasted him a few months.

It is interesting about how this discussion has panned out on a video game forum, yeah? The other forum I visit that also has intelligent discussion about the show isn't television-related, either.. they build replica movie props from films and TV. There just happens to be a Lost thread in the Off-Topic forum, with some damn good talk going on.

Incidentally, they've found a source for buying those Virgin Mary statues, if anybody wants one. :)

We know that the whole "savage" thing is just an act for the sake of the Survivors. But why?
What if it isn't an island but they want the survivors to think it is? That could explain the boat and their up-to-date medical supplies and even how the hatch had food easily replenished.

And why are some of the experiments abandoned, but not others?
Abandoned or temporarily needed, like the medical bunker? No one to operate on now so we shut it down and save resources.

I wonder if they even care whether the button is pushed or not. If it was that important, you'd think they'd still be manning it themselves.
If Desmond were an Other/DHARMA it would make more sense. They were manning it or they were waiting for it to be discovered. Remember, teh Others have stopped the survivors from getting too far. Why let them into this one locked and running hatch? All others have been abandoned, if even just temprarily, and no information can be gained.

I think he's scared of Eko, though, and with good reason.
I am trying to decide if Eko was makling a sincere apology or a threat, or both.
It's interesting that we share the same thoughts on the "loose cannons" (what I call the "wild cards").
I chose "loose cannons because a loose cannon would roll around a ship and knock holes in the hull, much like these unknown characters can do to a theory. Wild card works as well since they can change an entire hand teh way they can do to a theory.

Both work.

Danielle and Desmond. They're not Dharma, they're not part of the big group of Survivors. And I don't think either group is able to accurately predict what they're going to do.
I don't know enough about Desmond to decide. His story is as good as Henry's and he played with Jack's miond in the same way. If the Others had info on our survivors' pre-crash lives he sure did show up at the right time in the past. I say we watch for Henry in the background of future flashbacks.
I think that's how Henry got himself captured. I don't think it was intentional, I think he was simply wandering around, thinking he was "safe" because he was far enough away from the Survivor's camp, and from where they thought Danielle's camp was.
Wher is Danielle's camp now? She seems awfully close to the survivors' camp. Is she becoming one without integrating herself? An outer perimeter, so to speak?
I think the "I'm just a poor castaway like you" routine is some kind of safety net that the Others use in case they inadvertantly run across the Survivors. A pre-fabricated story that they tell.
I bring up my Desmond comparison again.
I like teh wild card theory on the monster. I just thought of another. What if there is more than one? The rogue, I'm going to kill you, monster and then the one we saw with Eko that got its reading and left.
Which may explain why the Others generally stay away from that part of the island.. they're afraid of it, too.
Are they or is it a quarantine zone? Maybe a neutral zone to try avoiding running into survivors. The rogue monster idea is good too though. Hmm.
The other question that's now raised is the "infection" that Danielle mentioned. It now seems that it's quite real. I think that's what the "quarantine" warnings are for. And the vaccine that the Others take (I gathered that they're all on the vaccine).
It confirms Danielle's story and makes me trust her more, but not enough to let her near Aaron.
Although I don't think it's a vaccine per se, I think it's some kind of preventive drug that has to be taken regularly (a true vaccine only has to be taken once).
This might just be a Claire thing. If Jack calls it a vaccine then I will be upset. I get teh feeling that Claire isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. She seems like she might be the Australian version of white trash, or whatever they call it. She even has some hickish sounds to her accent.
Rumors are we should find this out---but it is just rumor.
Incidentally, they've found a source for buying those Virgin Mary statues, if anybody wants one. :)
Does it come "stuffed?" :sly:

EDIT: A quick note: In a podcast teh producers said that DHARMA is an acronym, not an anagram. So, the letters stand for something, but what? After this I went through and noticed that all teh logos have it as DHARMA and not Dharma. From here on out I will type it as DHARMA. I don't care how anyone else does it I just didn't want people thinking I was odd.

This week “...And Found” is screening here. At the end of watching an episode each week it’s really annoying because so far, it doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere, yet.

Excellent write up FoolKiller, your effort each week doesn’t go unnoticed. As I was watching the episode, as soon as I saw Ethan as the doctor, I was in the usual “Man, didn’t see that one coming” way, but it raised some questions along with it.

From the first season we know of Mr. Rom as the “I want Claire at all costs/Ontario, right on!” kind of guy, he threatens the Losties through Jack, leaves Charlie strung up a tree, kidnaps Claire and gets around the patrol by way of the beach and kills (I think), Steve. Now that we’ve seen this Ethan—DHARMA connection, it leads to ask, why was Claire’s baby so important that he turned into a complete savage and decides to wreck havoc? Are the rest of DHARMA like that too, stop at nothing “researchers”? Mind you this does require that DHARMA are the “Others” are the same thing.

Both Ethan and Goodwin failed to assimilate into both Lostie groups, so is Henry Gale a set up to do the same? I think that they will find a balloon, but it’s been planted by the “Others/DHARMA” to make his story believable. Though suspicions about him will still exist within the group, he is able to join in with the Lostie crew, probably not the “A-Team” though but you get the drift. Charlie will then be manipulated by him into doing something to the Swan station, the timer will go off, Locke and his disciples wont be able to get to it, the island a-splodes, it’s the end of the second season and everyone is left with the usual “WTF is going on here” mindset.

Ok, joking aside. There are also the suspicions of Rose and Bernard being in with the DHARMA brigade from various Google expeditions. What kind of story will play out here? There’s also been people saying in one shot there’s a swan on the back of Henry’s neck (it’s his cut up shirt, Jack is so kind), and that there’s a number 15 that can be seen within the mud on his neck, which I’m not totally convinced on either.

Sometimes I think people look at Lost too hard, looking for things that aren’t there. There’s the FoolKiller highly knowledgeable stereotype, that notices subtle things (even if there’s a nagging wife ;)), the ABC forum 13 years olds who quite possibly wouldn’t be able to understand the show completely even if they tried and the average Joe who watches it now and again. Personally I don’t think Lost is a show you can watch every second week and still know what’s going in *cough* Desperate Housewives *cough*. Anyway I’d leave the clueless to be clueless on their own, even if you’d correct them, they wouldn’t remember it anyway. It’s a losing battle.

So basically plane(s), boat(s) and a balloon (maybe), have all lead to the island, how long before the Losties witness a similar event? How many people can there be on this “Island” (I’m liking the peninsula idea), before it becomes totally unconvincing and it turns out it was just one of Charlies heroin induced fantasies? I’m also thinking that maybe Oceanic Airlines and DHARMA are associated, Claire’s mind was “read” to make some kind of psychological connection through memories of what she wanted for her baby, to make it appear completely OK to her. Even if she was sky high on Charlie’s— I mean Ethan’s hallucinogenics.

I’m even more confused than my post is :indiff:.

2) What is Eko's deal with the beard thing

When you put this together with the find of the theatrical glue + fake beard, then I'd think that Eko was telling Earl that he recognizes him. Or Eko could just be trying to convince Earl that he knows, just in case he actually is one of the others.

Watched the episode, took some screencaps etc...

They're onto us Ethan...

Inverted DHARMA medical logo.

Get your baby DHARMA robe now!

These guys sure know how to throw a party. Escape Hatch to where, incase of what?

:dopey:👍

What's with the RX-1 GND?

EDIT: From "One of Them", nice props guys ;)

Yep, I mean Henry Earl. I couldn't remember the name and just skimmed through Foolkiller's recap. Henry Earl does have 2 first names in his name:).

What do you guys think of the conversation that Claire overheard between Ethan and Zeke (one of the Others) when she is in the babyroom? That struck me as being important. It would be the first mention of someone who rules the Island.

"But what am I supposed to tell him? You know what he is going to do when he finds out."

OK, here’s my theory.

Imagine, if you will, a very Twilight Zone style scenario. It starts out in the ‘60s with a group of beatnik scientists (the DeGroots) who have a vision of a utopian society. They believe that through experiments in human behavior, medicine, and physics they can find a way to bring about a world of peace where there is no disease and energy is produced easily and free without harming the Earth. Unfortunately for them the scientific community thinks of them as a joke. They have very little respect and even less funding.

At the same time a philanthropic billionaire (Alvar Hanso) has been trying for years to bring about world peace by using his money to influence politics. Unfortunately it is very slow and looking hopeless. Then he happens upon a study published by our hopeful scientists and realizes that they are on to something. He realizes that science, and not politics, is the way to go to bring about change. Solve the ills of the world and even find a way to adapt humans to get along better and you will create a utopian society.

So this rich guy gives these scientists everything they need, including an island away from prying eyes and regulations. For a few years things are going great. The medical experiments are developing genetically altered microbes to help restructure human DNA in a developing immune system so that it is prepared to destroy any unwanted microbes that enter the human body. The physics experiments are producing wonderful amounts of geothermic power without pollution. And the behavior studies have brought about a machine that can scan a person's memories so that psychologists can determine the unconscious triggers that create a person's personality. The only glitch is that the scientists have noticed a natural pattern develop in their mathematical equations. They continually run across the same set of numbers. No one understands why.

Then things go wrong all around. The microbe creates problems in developed adults causing genetic defects and insanity. One of the affected scientists leaves a broadcast recording that just repeats the numbers. All those affected have to be killed in order to stop the spread. An affected scientist working with the physics experiments and the geothermal generator makes a mistake. Suddenly the experimental generator becomes unstable on shutdown and must be kept running. A dead man's switch was being used so that if an accident happened and the scientists killed the generator would automatically shut down. Now the switch must be constantly triggered because the shut down of the generator would cause a geologic event of an unknown degree. Healthy scientists are kept in the station running the dead man's switch under quarantine to prevent their getting sick. In the behavior experiments the memory scanner has gone outside its protocols and is now scanning everyone it can, chasing them. Those that won't hold still it tries to bind, sometimes killing them by accident.

The scientists are afraid that this new disease they have created will get off of the island and become an unstoppable pandemic. Anyone who happens to find their way to the island are judged as to whether they will properly fit into the mindset of the group and those who will are taken and given a chemical agent to prevent the disease from taking hold. Those who are not suitable are left to their own devices. Most catch the disease and die. All children will be made better from the disease and are still impressionable enough to be brought into the group.

The scientists and their group of converted castaways stop at nothing to continue their work. They are willing to kill, kidnap, etc. because they see these as necessary casualties if they are to save the world from their own mistakes and eventually itself, as was their original plan.
Both Ethan and Goodwin failed to assimilate into both Lostie groups, so is Henry Gale a set up to do the same? I think that they will find a balloon, but it’s been planted by the “Others/DHARMA” to make his story believable.
Based on the taking of the "good" people they could find a ballon that does belong to our Mr. Henry Gale and his story of how he came to the island is 100% true, yet he is still an Other.
Ok, joking aside. There are also the suspicions of Rose and Bernard being in with the DHARMA brigade from various Google expeditions. What kind of story will play out here?
Not buying it.

Interesting, but I think that Jack, Sayid, or Locke would have noticed. These 3 aren't likely to miss coincidences.
(even if there’s a nagging wife ;))
She doesn't nag, she just talks too much. I wish she would wait for a commercial break.
the ABC forum 13 years olds who quite possibly wouldn’t be able to understand the show completely even if they tried

Well, of teh only group of any size that we know of only one lived beyond the infection before anything else happened. As far as we know it has been a possible five landings in a 16 year period. If the survivors witness more people coming they have 2-3 years to wait. And then, would they trust them?
I’m also thinking that maybe Oceanic Airlines and DHARMA are associated, Claire’s mind was “read” to make some kind of psychological connection through memories of what she wanted for her baby, to make it appear completely OK to her. I'm sticking with the "Monster" having that be its original purpose. They knew teh lullaby would be the trigger to make her trust them because she didn't even have to ask, they were already doing the one thing she demanded of the adoptive parents.
Earl? You mean Henry right? Does Eko actually give the braids to Henry, I watched it but don't actually see it.
Eko appears to throw the braids down either on the floor or the counter but you don't see his hand again, so I don't know for sure. I just want to know what the deal with it was.

 Do you mean Henry Gale? It is the same name as Dorothy's uncle in Wizard of Oz, which is why the balloon story seems suspicious. Dorothy went home in a balloon.

It sounds like someone is getting their Wednesday and Thursday nights confused. My Name is Earl is on NBC on Thursdays.

My best guess at Him is that if Zeke is not DeGroot then Him could be DeGroot, but Him could also mean Alvar Hanso, the billionaire that funded DHARMA to begin with.

I hope all of this is making sense, well as much as Lost can make sense.
