I think the situation with M5Power's banning has gotten out of control. He probably didn't deserve to be banned for a week, let alone forever, considering that he didn't violate the AUP in any way. This thread is for discussing the ban and the subsequent permanent ban, and whether some of the moderator team have lost their touch with the general opinions of members on the forum.

regards.

Its says he's coming back on the 18th. No worries. Where does it say that he was a Permanent ban.

If he was Permanently banned, I think it really wasn't called for. He's opinionated sure, but not really that disruptive.

Funny how you don't even have to breach the AUP to be banned.

M6Power
Hey guys - I'm banned for the week so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be posting here - but here's a better idea to verify authenticity: rather than write your name on your finger, how about just take a few shots of the location? For instance if you see the car at a certain corner, take a few shots of that location from different angles, etc. More shots would be able to prove that you were indeed at the location and didn't just swipe the photo.

See you guys in a week - looking forward to the competition!!

A ban is a ban, Doug. It's not the username that's causing trouble, it's the person behind it... With that 3rd re-registration to try and loophole over the rules again, it's permanent this time. The rules are there to be followed, even if you're an older member than everyone else here.

I too completely disagree with the 1 week ban, permanent is just ridiculous.

Booo. 👎 He was giving an idea that contributed to a thread. Its excusable. :grumpy:

Also, I don't see how creating an account for posting when you're temporarily banned is any different to creating another account after you've actually been banned.

We have tons of members on there second (possibly third) accounts around here, so precedent we'll have to ban all them too because they've re-registered and trying to get around their ban. After all, it's not just a ban of the username, it's the person behind it.

AUP
You will not post any material that is knowingly false, misleading, or inaccurate.

If anyone has been doing that pathologically, it's Doug.

He's okay for a discussion now and then, but I just can't take a guy like that seriously.

START RANT MODE. (Wow I love rant mode. :D )

I know, even though I spazzed on him the other day, I still believe he shouldn't be banned. WTF I don't get it. He says some things that aren't involving anything against the AUP, but he gets banned for one whole week, This must be a long week for him. This is an outrage. :grumpy: What the hell, not even games like nitto or streetchallenge ban you for something that's not against the AUP. I don't really see what doug did wrong. If he responded to me like that I won't ban him. (I am starting to loose my anger issues. :)👍 ) But really, tell us what M5Power did wrong. I would get real pissed to get banned for something like this.

END RANT MODE.

Even if he did go against the AUP, why ban him??? It was just one post. All this is because it was against a mod. If it was against someone else, this wouldn't have happened. This is crazy...

Ok so let's just ban everyone that's ever lied about owning a car.

Let's start with GT Pro who claimed to have owned an R34 GT-R and two posts after he got called out apologized.

While we're at it let's ban Joey too.

Yeah I realize that it's the internet and people are going to lie.

But this guy lied about having a car in a post pretty much every day for like 2-3 years. He told me he was married, and had a kid. I freaking congratulated him for having that kid.

He said he owned oil wells. He said he was hit by a bus. He said he lived in NYC.

That's a little different then just saying you have a R34 GTR, which is sort of understandable given how all the kids drool over them. I mean saying you are married and have kids is something totally different when in fact your mom still makes your lunch.

A lot of people were probably pissed about his lying originally and even though that was way back when it's bound to have an effect on how he is treated now, some people don't care that he lied about a lot of **** and some people do. It's just a difference of opinion. Now if this was a democracy there would be reason for concern, however since it's Jordan's site run by Moderators that share his idea of what GTP should be like, they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want anyways.
EDIT: when did this become a permaban? everything would seem to indicate that it's a temp ban for being an "ass"

I'm not sure what he did, and why he deserved a ban in the first place but, from times I've seen him or talked a bit with him, I don't much care for him but that's just me.

And as LSA has said, there's no real point in arguing their decision to ban him, it probably won't do any good. Even if y'all are able to persuade an unbanning, I don't think M5 would want to come back, I wouldn't if I was him

He apparently said numerous times that he wasn't coming back after people got pissed at him for lying.

It's interesting that Poverty got banned for essentially the same thing that M5Power has done, yet M5Power's possible permaban (still under moderator review) has garnered far more dissent and claims of "moderator nazism."

I don't care if you like M5Power more than you did Poverty -- it's still kinda ridiculous.

For the record, I think M5Power is a funny, cool guy...when he behaves himself. I have no problem with the moderators' current decision, nor will I have a problem if they decide to permaban him, but I do hope that things work out so that he can return.

Mr.OzzyGT

Wait, he was permabanned?!

After all the lies and his multiple accounts, I would've given him a 2 week ban, maybe 1 month at the most... but permanent? Boo. 👎

I brought up what Skip is talking about with an Administrator, but it go absolutely nowhere. Raping the AUP doesn't get you banned, apparently.

-AUP
You will not post messages that are clearly outside of the stated topic of any Forums nor disrupt a forum by deliberately posting repeated irrelevant messages or copies of identical messages (also known as "flooding"). Spam - wasteful comments and posts, as judged by our moderators, will be removed and the member warned or banned.

hmmmm....

I would call that on-topic. He said he basically doesn't care and that everyone should get over it.

Touché. We specifically told M5Power that if he re-registered during his one week hiatus, he would be banned permanently. He re-registered not once, but twice. It's not about breaching the TOS or AUP... it's showing a lack of respect towards the authority.

In the words of Justin Timberlake, cry me a river.

So, is there an official ruling as to what is going to happen with him then, because I am confused? Are we still looking at a week-long ban (as indicated by his M6Power name), or is this something permanent?

Now, I do realize that he was pushing Scaff's buttons, but it sounded more like a personal conflict between the two than anything. Granted, Doug is really good with doing that with just about everyone, but quite often we realize he does it just to keep us talking, for whatever reason.

I dunno. Maybe the 'breather' situation is going to be good for all of us, but even if things are as sour as they are reported, I'm not sure how happy some of the members will be. Lets put it this way, in every situation we have to have a 'bad guy' or two, and with Poverty out of the way and what appears to be M5Power being dropped, who's left?

I trust the mods, but without the 'Darth Vader' of GTP, things won't be the same...

I didn't think the ban was neccessary for the things with Scaff, but re-registering twice after being told not to, and to get around the ban, that's just stupid, and he should be punished just like everyone else was.

Although I remember a few times that the ban was just increased to 14 days for making another username.

What's done is done, and doubtful can be undone, and should not be redone.

If he violated the AUP and/or TOS, and got banned for doing so, then it should be so. He was told if he re-registered (which he did twice as fred has said) he would be permabanned.

End of discussion, perhaps?

But I like him. Watching the arguments he has with Ozzy and MistaX is amusing. It's like they're brothers or some crazy thing like that.

Well, yes and no. Granted, I don't know of all of the specifics of what happened, but generally speaking, I didn't notice what the primary infraction came from. Granted, there have been people that have been kicked-out for much worse, but at least from what I had seen, it was more of a button-pushing incident than anything else. He had managed to avoid upsetting a lot of people (surprisingly) for quite some time, and that within itself is commendable.

...However, like I said before, if there was good reason, then there obviously was. But I think a lot of us are wondering what exactly he did wrong, and to what extent he was in violation of the given rules, and by what comparison does this differ from other people who have done so?

I'm not going to outright defend him, but I'm curious as to what exactly happened, and what is going on now...

As someone else said in this thread, if i was a moderator i would ban him for 1 or 2 months if he made other accounts. But i wouldn't perma-ban him unless he posted Pornography, spammed constantly or insulted someone like this: "YOU M*********Ring mod you can't stop me!"

Even GTAforums.com aren't as harsh as this and trust me they are pretty harsh when it comes to stuff like the above mentioned and mod stealing (They banned an awesome modder Seanorris for one little part stolen that he was probably using for testing anyway!)

P.S. How did you mods know he registered multiple accounts? IP?

What I've found most surprising in this circumstance is the reaction this has received... I doubt even Doug thought he was liked this much, well that is, those of us who didn't already have some kind of vendetta against him to begin with...
