What a joke.

Go DBacks! Upton is on fire right now. 👍

I'm calling the sweep on San Diego. Now SF just needs to lose some games.

;)

Edit: I already called the sweep.

Wow. That call was terrible. Not even close. The game should have been extended according to that video. Even if it was a marathon game, let it last a little longer. What, did Jerry Meals have to get some sleep or was there some can't-miss recital or something that was being missed? Unless there was something I clearly didn't see, that was a bad call. That call is this year's version of the Gallaraga non-perfect game (as far as refs screwing/umpires screwing a team). I also liked the various angles for this game being called. Way to go, J. Meals. Epic win.

The Root Sports and WPGB footage are both the most interesting by far, since it was the Pirates who got shafted. Only reaction that would be more interesting is if the Pirates TV/Radio crews reacted like how Tommy Heinsohn would react if the NBA's Celtics got some poor calls.

The umpire admitted later that he botched it, but worded his statement to make it sound like it wasn't quite so much of a howler. Umpires statement

That's because the only possible way a umpire can get in trouble is if they somehow admit that the system is slightly flawed. In which case its heavily flawed and the fat ass umpire probably just wanted the game to be over because standing on your feet is really exhausting.

Of course we have Selig as commissioner, the most passive asshole in the world. He's done nothing good for the game of baseball and has done nothing but point fingers at the players.

*SF must lose!*

Not when Timmy pitches :D Timmy didn't have his A game today, likely due to his flu but was still able to shutout the Phillies over 6 innings which is good enough for our bullpen. 👍 We were able to take 2/3 in Philly which is awesome to do against a tough opponent in their city.

Beltran went 0-4 but made a great catch so still helped somewhat. Pablo went yard to take a early lead along with good small ball the Giants were able to score 4 which is good enough for us :D

Hopefully Belt gets more playing time and Huff picks it up because one more bat would really help. Oh and Zito can go live on Mars and never come back.

We had the bases full a couple time I believe and didn't do 🤬 to get them in. Typical. Yay for 4 games back....again. No reason why we shouldn't have won all 3 games against SD.

What a joke.

I just don't understand how an umpire in perfect position standing that close and at the major league level blows a call like that. Absolutely unacceptable.

He wants the game to be over. Its actually very common in smaller plays.

A few years ago Fred Lewis was up with 2 outs and 2 strikes on him, down one run and had a couple runners on. Strike three was called about neck high. The stadium erupted.

This just in... I heard that Hunter Pence may likely be traded to the Phillies. I'm like... DAMN IT! We're going to be f:censored:ed for years to come. All of our big name talent is going. Good for the career of Hunter Pence, but the Astros are just going to even more a trainwreck unless we get some damn good talent that can produce immediately. Then too, I think I've heard the Pence trade is a deal with the Phillies and Braves in a three-way.

So... the Astros are going to be even more lethargic as they try to get younger. Hell, we might as well bring up our Minor League players to play out the rest of this season because we're 20+ games back in the NL Central and infinity games in the NL Wild Card race. We're basically just mailing it in by dealing Hunter Pence. The Pirates were s:censored: until they turned things around this season. When the hell are the Astros going to return to their 2005 form (even though we weren't all that great in 2005) or even the 1998 Astros?

Enjoy the weekend series. I'll just look forward to Texans football while the Astros keep floundering what's left of the 2011 season...

phuck the phillies

 Sorry, guy. I'd like to see the Pirates do well this season, too. But I'd rather see the Phils do better. If it's any consolation, we have series coming up with the Reds, Cards and Brewers and we're gonna try just as hard to beat them for ya.

You guys really got shafted Tuesday night. I really feel bad about that for ya.

Well, here in Houston, there is even a Facebook fan page who wants to see Ed Wade (Astros General Manager) be fired. We're still stuck on about 35 wins after we've lost two straight in Milwaukee after last night's loss. After today's game, we'll be back at Minute Maid Park to end this NL Central road trip.

The Astros have only managed having a high-definition scoreboard, but not much high-definition offense and high-definition winning. I'm damned disappointed in my hometown baseball team. While I still love the Astros, I can't watch the Astros this season. When most of what your team does is lose and when most of your talent is mostly young talent that isn't going to get better any time soon, you get restless trying to care about your team.

Regardless, good luck to all of your teams. I saw St. Louis pound the crap out of the Chicago Cubs yesterday on FOX. One comment I heard was "this is NOT an American League game." They won 13-5, I believe.

Yeah, the pirates are unfortunately pretty overmatched vs. Philly.

Coming up on this series, my only hope was that we'd catch the Phillies near the bottom of their pitching rotation...Halladay and then Lee the next night is no fun.

Plus that starting pitcher matchup is a hoot. Lee vs. McDonald LOL.

Either way, was nice to see Alvarez find his power and sock a dinger early...unfortunately the game was out of their reach soon after.

Newly acquired Derrek Lee should be in the lineup today for Pitt, sending Overbay to the bench which is awesome b/c overbay sucks. EDIT: actually derrek lee won't be starting today because of 'family issues' damn.

The Yankees beat Baltimore last night 17-3. :ill:

Diamondbacks came back from being down 4-2 last night to win their game 6-4. Finally we manage to pick up some ground on SF. Hopefully we can do the same today as Cincinnati is currently winning their game against SF 5-0.

I found out that Michael Bourn is now a Brave. We got Jordan S. and three pitchers in a trade. Still... we're just playing for 2012 at this point. Maybe 2013. Maybe 2014...

SF lost 9-0 and the DBacks pulled out a series win against LA 6-3. :D

2 games back, but now we're in for a challenge as we are playing the Giants starting tomorrow. :nervous:

Edit: Game one is over, DBacks take it 5-2. :D

Now only 1 game back. 👍

DBacks just took game two with a score of 6-1. :D

Great pitching tonight by both pitchers. Lincecum made one mistake and that is all we needed.

I saw that game last night, it was a really really really terrible night for the Giants, but don't worry, well get the D Backs back for it.

The Cubs were out of their minds banging out all those homers at the Pirates last night. Cubs, unlike my Astros, are actually winning even though both of us are bottom of the barrel in the NL Central.

Alright SF fans, at least you got one win....

At least we won the series. :P

By the way, I'm posting this after the score went 6-0 in SF's favor. Can't bother watching the rest of the game. :(

The Astros won their series against the Reds, and Jordan Lyles got his first MLB win. We won 5-4 earlier tonight. I think I heard it was a come-from-behind deal.

We get a day off for Thursday, but here are the next five series (remember- My Astros' season is over, so who cares if we win?):

• Brewers (8/5 - 8/7)
• at Diamondbacks (8/8 - 8/11)
• at Dodgers (8/12 - 8/14)
• Chicago Cubs (8/15 - 8/17)
• Giants (8/19 - 8/21)

Congrats to Jordan Lyles. Elsewhere...

The New York Yankees pounded the White Sox 18-7 earlier today in Chicago. • All the Cubs needed was a solo jack to down the Pirates 1-0 at beautiful PNC Park in Pittsburgh. • Vogelsong got the win for the Giants as San Francisco won in an 8-1 rout. Marquis was the loser for the D-Backs.

Will Giants acquiring Beltran and Cabrera have an impact for the rest of the season? I think this is a good move by Sabean, Beltran will lead us to October baseball. Cabrera will be crucial going into the playoffs because we lost Sanchez and Tejada, although he isn't much of an upgrade from Tejada. In my opinion, Sabean needs to pull his head out his ass and get rid of garbage contracts next season. For **** sakes we're paying DeRosa 6 mil a year to just to sit on the bench, picking Tejada over Uribe...and not to mention Zito...
Giants by far have the best pitching staff in baseball(Vogelsong has been tearing apart this season), but they are lacking power big time... and D'Backs are just a halfgame back. I think acquiring Beltran gives us a steady bat that we've been lacking all season. Pablo's leading the HR's with just 11. Ross has been a no-show so far this season, and I doubt that we could get the same kind of production that we got from him last year. I think we'll be in better shape with Jonathan Sanchez returning tomorrow. And hopefully Posey comes back just in time for the playoffs.

Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!! The Phillies and Giants went at it last night in San Francisco with players getting ejected. It all began with Shane V. getting plunked by the Giants on a pitch. After that... it was time to knuckle up! So did Hunter Pence go from the Astros to the (and I quote) "Fighting Phils" to get on the sports news like this? Not sure if he was involved in the brawl, but that was a Friday Night Fight special. The Phillies ended up winning 9-2.

Enjoy this weekend's series, including Yankees at Red Sox (the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game this Sunday)!

LA made our starting pitcher last night look like a rookie in the 3rd inning. Unfortunately when that inning was over, we were 6 runs down and could never really make it up. The reliever that came in for the 4th did an excellent job. He should have started the game. 👎

Ramon Ramirez (SF pitcher) clearly threw at Victorino. Shane took a couple steps toward the mound, allegedly with the intention of asking "Hey what's up with that?" although possibly with spicier wording. Ramirez came flying off the mound tossing his glove aside, clearly looking for a fight. Catcher Whiteside tackled Placido Polanco who was on first base. After that the benches cleared and it degenerated into the usual baseball "brawl" with people pretty much just milling around. Ramirez, Whiteside and Victorino were ejected. This game will likely end up as the answer to a trivia question in a couple years, something along the lines of "When did Ryan Howard pinch-run for Shane Victorino?" (Power hitter Howard isn't exactly fleet of foot, while they don't call Victorino "The Flying Hawaiian" for nothing).

He was just involved in the general milling around. BTW since coming to Philadelphia he's batting .382 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs. This makes me wonder what's up with Houston -- the Phils have made a number of deals with the Astros over the last few years. Seems the players really blossom when they come to town; Lidge's 48-for-48 year in 2008, Oswalt who had been 1-7 at the time of the trade last year going 7-1 after joining the Phils. Meanwhile we send J.A. Happ, a promising young pitcher with a 12-4 record and a 2.93 ERA in 2009 to Houston and this year he's 4-14 with a 6.28 ERA. Is there something in the water there that makes baseball players not perform well in Houston or something? Really puzzling.

Well, you could say the same as to why any sports teams can't seem to win here in Houston. We're one of the most depressing sports cities in America. That is unless one pro sports team can really provide a boost. Last team (besides the Dynamo of the MLS) to win a title here was the Rockets back in the mid-1990s.

I think Ed Wade used to be Phillies' General Manager, so maybe that's why he's been shopping some of our talent to Philly. It's still just incredibly sad how down the drain the Astros have become since that improbable World Series run in 2005. It... still confounds me.
