I don't know if he's got the strength to keep it up over an entire derby though....hope he does win though I'm a Jays fan.

Ya since it's his first derby he cow.d do what Josh Hamilton did in 2008.

Its going to be fun to watch.

Bruce named Pablo the utility man, meaning he can come back into played after being taken out. Which could be good thing as he owns it up in Chase Field.

Also, apparently Beltran flew down with the Giants to Arizona... Which doesn't mean anything really but there are rumors of him being traded and he was asked if he would wave his no trade clause to play with the Giants and he said yes. Oh god that would be awesome.

I think Prince is going to own the Derby. But Holliday is going to surprise some people. They are defiantly the two strongest contestants.

First thing i seen today when i woke up and looked on the net was that the poor kid who thought being nice was a decent thing to do is gonna be handed a tax bill of almost 15 grand for the things the Yankees gave him.

Lesson to those that get in this situation is keep the damn ball and sell it, i didn't see Jeter caring about the fans when he demanding millions of dollars for his service from the Yankees. If it's all about the money for the players it should be no different if a fan catches one of these lottery tickets nor should it be looked down on for any reason.

Now this kid is stuck with his 100,000 dollar student loans which he could of paid off and to boot gets a nice 15 grand tax bill he has no way of paying. Being nice gets you screwed, this kid could of easily paid off his entire student loans, bought a house and still had a few bucks left over to put in the bank. Instead now he has luxury suite seats that the Yankees can only give away and a few worthless compared to that 3,000 hit ball pieces of memorabilia.

Either the Yankees or Jeter bet step up to the plate and do a little more then signing a few Jerseys for this kid!

Congratulations to Cano for winning the Home Run Derby. Elsewhere, I did a little reading on the new ballpark for the Marlins. I read (Wikipedia) it will be called Miami Ballpark to be open by the start of next season, and I also read the Florida Marlins will be renamed the Miami Marlins. Meanwhile...

All-Star Game TONIGHT!

It will be Roy Halladay (PHI) on the mound for the National League and Jered Weaver (LAA) for the American League. Will the NL make it a two-game winning streak for the All-Star Game, or will the AL start a new All-Star Game winning streak? Best of luck and congratulations to all participants in this year's All-Star Game in Phoenix.

Just wrapped up...

...the National League wins the 2011 MLB All-Star Game! Here are the numbers:

AMERICAN LG.: 1 run, 6 hits, 0 errors
NATIONAL LG.: 5 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors

Tyler Clippard was the winning pitcher for the NL All-Stars. C.J. Wilson was the loser for the AL All-Stars. The big hit came from Prince Fielder (imagine that) for the NL All-Stars with a huge three-run jack to propel the NL ahead of those massively talented AL All-Stars. The NL All-Stars had sloppy pitching in the Top of the 9th where they could have easily closed the game out. Brian Wilson, and all of that massive beard, closed out nicely for the NL All-Stars. That's two in a row for the NL All-Stars. The first win streak for the NL in the All-Star Game since the mid-1990s. I even saw my man Hunter Pence come in for a run at one point.

So the 2012 MLB All-Star Game will likely be at an AL stadium. I think in Kansas City, if I'm not mistaken. Way to go, NL!

Now... we all can focus on going back to our original teams and pound the crap out of each other! :D

When action gets back under way, here are the standings (and I'll assume the Wild Card leader to be the team with the best record not leading in their division). The leaders are spelled out while the others are abbreviated:

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE ---
AL EAST: Boston (55-35), NYY (53-35), TB (49-41), TOR (45-47), BAL (36-52)
AL CENTRAL: Detroit (49-43), CLE (47-42), CHW (44-48), MIN (41-48), KC (37-24)
AL WEST: Texas (51-41), LAA (50-42), SEA (43-48), OAK (39-53)
AL WILD CARD: New York Yankees (53-35), LAA, TB, CLE, CHW...

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE ---
NL EAST: Philadelphia (57-34), ATL (54-38), NYM (46-45), WAS (46-46), FLA (43-48)
NL CENTRAL: Milwaukee (49-43), STL (49-43), PIT (47-43), CIN (45-47), CHC (37-55), HOU (30-62)
NL WEST: San Francisco (52-40), ARI (49-43), COL (43-48), LAD (41-51), SD (40-52)
NL WILD CARD: Atlanta (54-38), (MIL/STL/ARI in a three-way tie), PIT

Discussion...
• How many of these leaders do you think will win their division or the respective Wild Card races?

• What leading team is most vulnerable?

• What team(s) would surprise you if they realistically made the playoffs or won a Wild Card slot?

The run to the postseason has begun! And of course, don't forget all the Trade talk. There's also a rumor that if the MLB did realign, that Houston could go from the National League to the American League. Some fans here in H-Town think that move would be as bad as when the NFL's Houston Oilers moved to Nashville and became the Tennessee Titans. What do you make of realignment in MLB, if it were to happen?

That's all. You all have a great day!

Okay, may as well post my predictions or, in some cases, non-predictions:

AL East: Bosox or Yanks, flip a coin
AL Central: No idea. Three teams in the hunt, I see it as going to the wire.
AL West: Texas
AL Wildcard: Yanks or Bosox

NL East: Phillies
NL Central: A crapshoot like the AL Central.
NL West: Giants although D'backs could end up taking it. Rockies might get hot but I doubt it.
NL Wildcard: Atlanta

My Astros will return to action this weekend hosting the Pirates here in Houston. We're 30+ games under .500 and are basically playing for 2012. I think we're 30-61 or 30-62 or something. Best of luck to all of your teams this weekend as the race to October continues!

Pablo Beastaval just tied the game up 3-3 against the Dodgers. Belt first AB back up hits a bullet over the right field wall for a HR.

Giants traded 2 minor league pitchers for Astros INF Jeff Keppinger. Good move for both sides IMO. Astros get a little salary relief and they get some bullpen arms with good stuff in the future. And the Giants get a solid Sanchez replacement.

Sounds nice for the Astros. Our next series after vs. Nationals will be at the Cubs. You can call it the Bottomfeeder Series since both of us are at the very bottom of the NL Central divisional race. We got the Nationals later today to close out this series.

If you can believe it, we won our first series since the at Dodgers series (June 17 - June 19) when we beat the Nationals earlier today here in Houston. Jason Michaels (J-Mike) made the big game-winning hit in 11 innings as we won 3-2. The Astros are now 33-65 and infinity games behind in the NL Central race. We get a day off as we've played our final game at Minute Maid Park for this month. Up next- THREE NL Central foes on the road: at Cubs (this weekend), at Cardinals (Monday - Thursday next week), and at Brewers (next weekend). As if our season isn't already over, we may be in for more trouble. Only chance we have in this stretch of games is against the Cubs in Chi-town. Other than that, we'll see.

I'm starting to really believe these pirates are for real...if only they could get the bats going...tough loss to the reds today but they still took the series.

I hope to hell they can win the division...it'd be long overdue. I'm 25 now, and I was 6 or 7 the last time the pirates were relevant. People in this city are really starting to get excited again after being let down for so many years of selling off superstars.

My only worry is a few years down the road when McCutcheon comes up for his next contract, I feel like there's a good chance he's going to look for more money than the bucs are willing to offer...

Either way, for once they didn't sell every available player at the trade deadline, and I'll enjoy winning baseball for the first time in 18 years.

Damn man, the Marlins got blasted. Every time I wear my Marlins shirt they lose by double digits the next day.

I remember the Murtaugh era, and frankly it's painful to look at what's become of that great franchise in the past couple decades. So even though I'm a fan of the cross-state rivals, I'm pleased to see they're doing well now, and hope it continues.

To be honest, though, if there's a NL team that's overdue for a World Series appearance, it would have to be the Cubs.

Think my confidence in the DBacks making it all the way has just hit a new low. Now with one of our star players out for the rest of the season. :(

Nutting is actually one of the richer owners in baseball. They have money, they just don't spend it. If they start winning they will win more. The Giants payroll has gone up $30 million and they are willing to spend more. You start selling out often, payroll goes up.

Losing Drew is a huge blow. Don't ever give up though... I did for a little after Buster and Sanchez were out for the year... Look where we are now.

In trade rumor news... People are believing that Beltran may have just played his last home game for the Mets. Phillies, Braves and Giants have showed the most interest.

Well we won the game last night (shut-out no less) so hopefully we'll be ok. 👍

When I saw the Astros earlier today, we were up 2-0 in the 5th inning. Then... the Astros failed as it was 2-1 on a solo Cubs homer, 2-2 tie on a sacrifice fly by the Cubs, then a two-run jack by the Cubs. End result- loss #66 for the Astros this season. Can't wait for football season (unless the Texans flounder again)...

Giants need to bring up Brett Pill... The dude does everything and plays 4 positions and is freakin' killing the ball again this year. Apparently his pretty stellar with the glove too. Also.. come on Bochy, give Belt some damn playing time, he takes walks and can steal basses. LET HIM PLAY!! GRRrrrrr...

Anyone catch the 19 inning game last night?

Oh, and I'm calling for a sweep of the Padres by the DBacks. 👍

Jesus christ what a terrible call to end that marathon game btw the Pirates and the Braves. Dude was tagged 3 feet in front of the plate.

Pirates got robbed hard.

I didn't actually see the ending, I was just browsing MLB.com for DBacks info and noticed that the game was in the 19th inning. I was like "no way that's actually happening". So I tracked the last inning of the game using the MLB thing and saw that the Braves got the last run, but wasn't sure how.

Saw the call and just terrible. The runner got tagged a few feet on front of home plate but got called safe.

Terrible call.. Reminds me of the call Cuzzi made last year to call Travis Ishikawa out at how against the Mets in extra innings and he was called out despite the fact that he was out by a mile.

Umps have the highest job security out of any job in the world. And they do a terrible job.

OH yeah and the Giants traded Jack Wheeler for Carlos Beltran... One of our top pitching prospects but Sabes wasn't so high on him as he was. But we were able to get a nice piece for a prospect with dropping value, I'll take it.

It would be baller if we could resign him.. Next year with Posey back, Pablo, Nate, Belt, Crawford, Beltran.. mmmm

Two losing streaks snapped. Our woeful season is essentially over unless we're HANDED the NL Wild Card or NL Central, but we beat the Cardinals 4-2 to snap our 5-game losing streak. We won on 4 runs, 13 hits, and 2 foolish errors. St. Louis got two runs, six hits, and one error. More importantly, the Seattle Mariners finally won 1 in a row after a 17-game losing skid. They did so by handing the Yankees their backsides in a 9-2 blowout.

Also, congratulations to Erwin Santana of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for his no-hitter thrown at Cleveland. LAA won 3-1. I think I heard that it was the first non-shutout no-hitter since 1993. I forget the exact pitcher's name, but it was a no-hit non-shutout victory in a game between the Astros and Mets in 1993.

If I get to see any video footage of that Pirates at Braves game, I'll have to see that footage myself to see what actually happened.
